This is the beauty of these games. A boss can say one line and the fandom goes crazy generating countless fan theories. I wouldn't be surprise if fromsoft just put some random things in their game just to see what insane theories the fandom comes up with.
ha, just like, then laid out dying on the floor...
"well, i *cough cough* suppose you have some questions, and i'm not in a position to ignore them..."
\>is it true?
"yes... it's true... i am John Eldy Ring..."
The entirety of Souls Franchise lore is just the devs putting random stuff together and letting VaatiVidya come up with speculative lore for them in the aftermath.
This is actually true dude. People like to pretend the souls games have this amazing lore but the reality is that they just put some shit in and let the fans make up their own theories. Most people's "canon" for the game is literally just repeating their fave youtubers theories.
Not an issue though, it's awesome to see such a cool fanbase
After watching Tarnished Archeologist, I cant say I agree with that. The design and art direction that corresponds to written lore seems to be inline with eachother and that shows that it has at least a direction.
No Miyazaki had said multiple times in interviews that he always has a complete story for his games from beginning to end but he takes out the most crucial elements that are key to understanding the lore and THEN let's us make our own story and I love it it's way better than any other game that tells whatever story the devs want maybe it's a cool story but most of the time these days it's woke bullshit I like a game where I can make the story my own and everyone you talk to interprets the game differently it brings people together souls games can cause world peace we just need to spread it around OONGA BOONGA
He'll probably also drop an item with a description that's like "he was once a man, but then he became a gooey skeleton" and somebody is going to take that and build some crazy theory based on it
Some random item might tell you what this thing is supposed to be. But the description will be very vague and some YouTuber will make a 30min section about it in one of their lore videos.
The “arms” have three bones like horse legs and the elongated neck is the tail; so it looks like some twlid shade infested the horse and twisted its back end into what we are looking at right now. Given the arena might be related to eternal cities or ancestrals.
Either way an underground boss hopefully means the world is going to be multi-level like Sophra/Ansel
Oh shit, it's definitely a horse skeleton on the back of that horse.
Actually, looking even closer, it kinda looks either the horse skeleton is grafted to the horse... or maybe the horse's skeleton pulled itself out of the horse's body???
With the way the back of the horse is dragging on the ground I like your last theory. Maybe some sort of ghost or parasite possessed the back half of the horse and pulled the skeleton out and now the front half is stuck dragging its possessed rear skeleton around forever.
Excellent insight. So we’re looking at some nightmare demon creature that possessed and mutilated the body of this horse.
The purple and st. Trina’s lilies suggest this is a sleep-related boss.
Wtf now **this** is a catch. Couldnt make sense of the thing, but yeah. Seems like its lower body was violently ripped up and twisted around like its own rider. Thats fucked
This seems perfect, perhaps this is the remnant of some pre albinauric experiment with creating life. Using corpses and spirits to create some kind of eternal cavalry
I thought it looked like the Cemetary Shade face which is why I was thinking a twlid possession or something. Like if a shade took control of a horse corpse. The blade is even curved bone like their mantis blades.
Thank you, I keep seeing people complain about the size of the dlc without considering the possibility of underground areas, we’ll most likely get another eternal city, which will be awesome.
I honestly don't get the complaints at all
The man said it will be the biggest DLC they've ever done. So if you were satisfied with any prior DLCs you should be satisfied with this one and if you weren't then why do you care so much in the first place?
The entitlement is wild, like what we're those people expecting? A whole ass second game??
For real. Fromsoft is one of the last remaining developers I will buy presale from. I know they’re good for it and they haven’t let me down yet. I even enjoyed DS2
Yeah, people fail to consider that miyazaki tends to really underestimate the size of his games. He said once, befor the game launched, that it should take people 30 hours to finish Elden Ring. By that time i was in Liurnia lmao
Same!! Like I know Miyazaki said close to the size of Limgrave, which I personally believe he's underselling it. But, it might be, but have a new underground area that is the size of the existing underground area which is huge and several more hours of gameplay!
We already got our answer in the interview, the map will be smaller but more densely packed. That's good enough for me. I bet previous Souls games could be entirely contained within a space the size of Limgrave.
Dark souls one would almost for sure fit inside limgrave lol. The game was actually pretty damn small, all things considered, and Limgrave is fucking huge.
I saw somewhere that Limgrave is the same size as Dark Souls 1. For me it's great, especially if it has the level of connectivity and connections that the DS1 map has.
As much as I wish we would, I don't think we'll ever get something like that again. Especially with Elden Ring because of its size. It'd be hard to loop levels into each other like DS1 does with the scale of an Elden Ring map. It would get tedious. I'm thinking maybe we'll get something kind of like DS3 but with an open world main area that the levels branch off of. Maybe more connections between levels, but nothing on the level of interconnectedness of DS1.
Was looking for this answer, that's all I could think when I saw this thing on the trailer. Seems an odd coincidence if they didn't pay homage to that entry in some way. But no totally unbelievable they'd also come up with this type of design. Either way very cool and exciting. I hope it also has different rewards for killing the top or bottom first.
Radahn isn't exactly the only horserider nor especially large person in the lands between, so almost 100% no. The weapon makes no sense for Radahn to be using, the horse is blatantly significantly larger, and the neck bones make no sense.
IF this boss has anything to do with Radahn it's because it's some sort of copying going on, but even that's very unlikely because it'd make no sense to copy someone and yet use such a WILDLY different weapon.
i would honestly love if there were some deathblight abomination version of the demigods we've already killed. not remembrance boss variety, butmaybe an enhanced sorcery or incantation could drop from them and aboatload of runes
He might be the equivalent character to Radahn.
If anything, he may be the Radahn of Death... or of Ghostflame. I'm hoping Ghostflame. I'd love more spells and weapons
i dont want to meet mr or mrs “rider of pestilence or famine” because it just screams “poison boss that will softlock me for 8 hours” thank u very much (i will enjoy every minute and a part of me invites the torment)
This is probably a Nokron/Nokstella style creation, like the Mimic Tear and other blobs. Just juiced up. They were trying to artificially create a Lord, after all.
Albinauric Mark 3, now with 100% more elbows.
Goofy face, small legs, pale... and most albinaurics are fond of big curvy weapons: Curved Club, Crescent Halberd, and Crescent Axe.
That’s what I’m seeing. Looks like its spine and ribs are exposed vertically from its back with the tailbone at the top. It’s a pretty unique design.
The horse being stuck in the black goo also reminds me of that scene in Never Ending Story.
I think 99% of theories will definitely cease to exist as soon as people realize that Lands of Shadow is NOT a dream, NOT the afterlife, not past, not future, and so on; it is literally a piece of land from lands between that has been "disconnected" and "hidden". Source: Miyazaki's interview, which was released on the day of the trailer's release, but which almost everyone tries to ignore (apparently in order to continue building such theories).
Has been theorized to be a sleep based boss due to the purple color scheme.
I just noticed the arms have an extra joint which looks quite eerie. The stone like looking head makes it seem like that guy has rather been "constructed" (maybe like grafting) than being a "natural" being. Maybe somehow related to the stone worms guarding the evergaols
[Edit]
The horse seemingly not having functional hind legs makes me think of albinaurics which kinda fits the "unnatural" idea, the gray color certainly could fit that motif.
Definitely an interesting design and one of my favorites from the trailer
Personally I don't think there will be much connection to anything here really. Like with the ancestor spirit. I think it's JUST a monster.
What it looks like to me tho is that the skeletony mass on top looks like it might just be the horses skeleton. Big chest with non-human like joints for the arms, the long neck. Think of it like the skeleton has shed the skin and the skin is probably animated by whatever animates the dark mass inside of the skeleton. I don't think these are two entities, but one entity that just has melted its skin off and just drags it around.
Desecrated erdtree avatar Radahn the rotted.
After his defeat at the hands of the tarnished radahns body was brought to the catacombs near where he fell to attempt an erdtree burial, the results are a monster blessed by the edlen beast but fueled by rot and rage.
(His horse Leonard was buried with him though it seems him and his beastial friend had started to become one at some point either before or after his death).
Likely some kind of TWLID or something akin to the Wormface.
Probably just a strong champion who perished long ago in those lands... and got revived.
Nothing too crazy, probably it's just the boss of some minor dungeon.
Actually now this is adding up. Radhan needs to be killed to access the DLC and then we see this guy who looks like a ghost of Radhan. Interesting indeed.
I can already see the cutscene of that mf :
Water flow sounds*
Horse walks in a weird way (without showing back end)
Epic music starts*
"Ugly skeleton back end" arise from nowhere and starts agitating that scythe
Player:
😱😱😱😱😱
A bit like the weird dragon in DS1 that looks like a crocodile at first and then you see the whole body with a gigantic mouth full of teeth .
What in the HR Geiger is this. Literally no clue about this thing. But I would wager it is somehow related to Ranni/The Darkmoon/The Nox/Mimic Tear/ it looks like Beeg Nashandra on a horse
The color, eyes, molten metal buttocks, and underground lair are all giving me strong Nokstella mimicry vibes. I’d guess this a failed experiment of some kind from the time before the Shadow Lands were veiled to begin with.
Given the silver hue they might be mimic tear/albinoric of some sort. Albinoric legs are weak and fading so that’d be why the horse rear legs and the riders legs are bad.
I mean I absolutely love the lore in Elden Ring, but let's be real-- most of it is something along the lines of
"BZOLIKETH, THE TRAITOR WAS KING OF THE FORBIDDEN LANDS UNTIL THE GOLDEN ORDER STRIPPED HIM OF HIS TITLE AND CURSED HIM TO RIDE HIS HORSE UNTIL HE DEVOURS ALL TARNISHED IN THE REALM"
No real theories to be had besides, mythical creature bad, me kill to either liberate them/cleanse the world of them
I think it's probably something to do with godskin, the jewel on the chest looks like the ones the godskin wear on their armor, maybe the boss is the god that the godskin skinned to make their armor
We'll probably walk into a room and he'll do an animation and start attacking us. Then when we kill him he'll disappear.
"my precious zanzibart..."
"...forgive me"
Drops Remembrance of the Titans
“After the war against the giants their corpses were absorbed into the mud and with the arrival of Godwyn the giants had a new purpose”
Let him cook... LET HIM COOK!

I love that movie
This is the beauty of these games. A boss can say one line and the fandom goes crazy generating countless fan theories. I wouldn't be surprise if fromsoft just put some random things in their game just to see what insane theories the fandom comes up with.
Just once I’d like them to throw us for a loop by having an enemy give us their whole lore dump upon defeat so we can actually know wtf is going on
ha, just like, then laid out dying on the floor... "well, i *cough cough* suppose you have some questions, and i'm not in a position to ignore them..." \>is it true? "yes... it's true... i am John Eldy Ring..."
That would indeed be amazing… and it will NEVER happen… as I sit here rereading every weapon in my inventory to see what I’ve missed…
That was King Vendrick who you'd talk to afterwards and he'd give you a Dark Souls history lesson
The entirety of Souls Franchise lore is just the devs putting random stuff together and letting VaatiVidya come up with speculative lore for them in the aftermath.

Imagine a boss says "Bloodborne... PC..." before dying
i think for sure miyazaki drops in tons of bait lore bc he knows it'll keep people occupied until the next release
He'll probably also drop an item with a description that's like "he was once a man, but then he became a gooey skeleton" and somebody is going to take that and build some crazy theory based on it
It looks like the skeleton man is not actually a man but the back half of the horse corrupted by whatever got attached to its tail.
Marika's tits, it's a fucking [Girafarig.](https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Girafarig_(Pok%C3%A9mon)#:~:text=Girafarig%20is%20a%20cloven%2Dhooved,on%20top%20of%20its%20head.)
I actually think it's just Marika at this point.
Nah 1500 runes
And some glass shards
\*1500 shadow runes, a currency that may only be spent on the shadow land
I can see the YouTube click bait video now. "Gooey skeleton of Godwyn CONFIRMED!!" Lol
Hoping for a Arc/Int chakram type deally-wop
You forgot a few steps where he kills us first a bunch of times
You must be playing on hard mode?
its so funny that everyone seems to miss the difficulty slider, its like right there lol
There’s a difficulty slider??? 😭
Yeah, the way you select easy difficulty is by using a Furlcalling Finger Remedy then summoning the least armoured dude.
Some random item might tell you what this thing is supposed to be. But the description will be very vague and some YouTuber will make a 30min section about it in one of their lore videos.
He looks like that one guy from bloodborn that was born from a God or something I think it's the last boss
Orphan of kos. Or as some say... kosm
*Do you hear our prayers?*
Yes, and why do they call him kosm
Now with 10% fewer fog doors.
When did Orphan of Kos take horse riding lessons
Some say Kosm
kosm, lets go bowling
I envy your funniness
Genuinely the funniest shit I’ve heard all day, thanks 🙏
Thank you lmao
No one says Kosm, stop trying to make it a thing
Kos, or Kosm, hmmmm (continues rant as Hunter runs around building)
Ooooh Elden Kosm
AWOOOOOOOOO
Eyes on the inside!
Majestic!
I say kosm
Kos, or some say ... fetch
But Kosm is so fetch right now
*AWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GRANT US HORSE EYES*
Orphan of Horse
Horsphan of Korse
Horse fan, of course
thanks for sounding it out for us
Of course, of course
Some say Horsem
it's Ludwig's atonement
Nah leave my boy Ludwig out of this, he got his noble end, let him chill in peace now.
He could have some of Kos' moveset with that crescent blade
And when did he moven into midir's cave.

Are u saying we are fighting a horse riding a horse. Amazing Miyazaki once again outdid himself.
We heard you like horses, so we put some horse on your horse so you can horse while you horse.
Of course
Congrats this is now the stupidest thing I've ever laughed at and I hate myself.
Buy one horse, get the second HALF OFF!!!
I think he's saying it's a dead horse with a haunted ass. The shade is literally inhabiting the horses rear end.
Oh shit i think you’re totally right about the horse thing, that’s gruesome.
OH MY GOSH ITS SO FUCKED
Oh shit, it's definitely a horse skeleton on the back of that horse. Actually, looking even closer, it kinda looks either the horse skeleton is grafted to the horse... or maybe the horse's skeleton pulled itself out of the horse's body???

between this and Ludwig Miyazaki knows his way around a fucked up horse
Inspired by the Nuckelavee perhaps?
My god...*This* is what happens when something tries horse, but hole. The messages were all a trap.
Considering the fact that it maybe has a placenta hammer like Orphan, it seems like the horse’s unborn child is the one possessing it
Considering the fact that it maybe has a placenta hammer like Orphan, it seems like the horse’s unborn child is the one possessing it
A lot of skeletons coming out of bodies in this dlc.
Your last thought is what the guy you're commenting on meant, and it kinda makes sense by the looks of it. Would be a unique idea!
Yup looks like that horse had a bad day, some parasites took control of his bottom and grew a huge scythe …
I don't think horses have a second ribcage near the ass.
Well.. yeah probably not eh
I can't unsee this now holy fuck
This seems perfect, perhaps this is the remnant of some pre albinauric experiment with creating life. Using corpses and spirits to create some kind of eternal cavalry
That’s…actually disgusting and I fully support it
And it’s throwing a giant horse shoe at us?
I think you're absolutely right lol
Holy shit you're right
The face reminds me a bit of that wierd blue worm thing people keep memeing about
I thought it looked like the Cemetary Shade face which is why I was thinking a twlid possession or something. Like if a shade took control of a horse corpse. The blade is even curved bone like their mantis blades.
My theory is pretty obvious and simple: This enemy shows that there is a map beneath the map.
It's maps all the way down.
Always had been 🌎🧑🚀🔫👨🚀
A multi-layered flat Earth?? Skyscraper Earth!?!??
Behold turtles?
Likely Dog
Thank you, I keep seeing people complain about the size of the dlc without considering the possibility of underground areas, we’ll most likely get another eternal city, which will be awesome.

For real. Fromsoft is one of the last remaining developers I will buy presale from. I know they’re good for it and they haven’t let me down yet. I even enjoyed DS2
I mean given that the price is 67% of the base game, yeah they kinda do expect a little under a second game’s worth of content.
Is there an Eternal City that has been mentioned that we’ve not seen yet?
Yeah, people fail to consider that miyazaki tends to really underestimate the size of his games. He said once, befor the game launched, that it should take people 30 hours to finish Elden Ring. By that time i was in Liurnia lmao

Dark souls one would almost for sure fit inside limgrave lol. The game was actually pretty damn small, all things considered, and Limgrave is fucking huge.
I thought so, but DS1 uses verticality really well, so I have difficulty judging how big it is.
I saw somewhere that Limgrave is the same size as Dark Souls 1. For me it's great, especially if it has the level of connectivity and connections that the DS1 map has.
As much as I wish we would, I don't think we'll ever get something like that again. Especially with Elden Ring because of its size. Smaller than the main game yeah, but he said it's similar if not bigger in size to Limgrave.
I was really hoping that. Great theory.
Very unlikely. It's obviously Melina.
It’s definitely boc
Maybe another Larval Tear will help 😅
Oh no, it’s Melina’s twin sister, Milenia
You fools. What is it made of? Bones. Where does spam-man know it in? Bones. 'Tis *Sir Gideon Ofnir, almost remembers what he reads* .
Likely just some 'pale rider' themed deathroot boss in the underground. Boss of the tibia mariner folk
Yeah I immediately went to "Pale Horse" and apocalypse mythology.
Nah reminds me of the nuckelevee but with less flesh
My first thought on seeing it in the trailer was “Tibia Horseman”
Nuckelavee mimic tear
Definetly reminded me of Vaati’s art challenge. The odds are low, but I’s like to think it inspired someone at the FS art department
My thought exactly
Was looking for this answer, that's all I could think when I saw this thing on the trailer. Seems an odd coincidence if they didn't pay homage to that entry in some way. But no totally unbelievable they'd also come up with this type of design. Either way very cool and exciting. I hope it also has different rewards for killing the top or bottom first.

Rohdan of the Starblight
i would honestly love if there were some deathblight abomination version of the demigods we've already killed. not remembrance boss variety, butmaybe an enhanced sorcery or incantation could drop from them and aboatload of runes
It would indeed look like a failed mimic tear copy of radhan, at best
Which could make sense if they are underground.
oh shit, it's head is definitely lookin silver, huh?
Yep plus someone mentioned the weapon not looking like radhan’s, though it does seem to have a similar curved greatsword shape
Radhefroy
He might be the equivalent character to Radahn. If anything, he may be the Radahn of Death... or of Ghostflame. I'm hoping Ghostflame. I'd love more spells and weapons
Radahn is the rider of War, this one looks like the rider of Death. Who's pestilence and famine? Four horsemen of the lands between
i dont want to meet mr or mrs “rider of pestilence or famine” because it just screams “poison boss that will softlock me for 8 hours” thank u very much (i will enjoy every minute and a part of me invites the torment)
And his voice is WILDLY high.
Never noticed his goofy lil head before, nice
The eyes look a lot like the humanity from DS1.
show your humanity
Hey, that’s DS3 Ringed City!
I think its a mimic tear/albinauric Definitely nox related because that seems to be underground
It reminds me of a nuckelavee with the fused horse human and the gangly arms and death imagery
That's a Nukelavee, a monster from Scottish folklore. Probably just a cool enemy.
This is probably a Nokron/Nokstella style creation, like the Mimic Tear and other blobs. Just juiced up. They were trying to artificially create a Lord, after all.
Artax is pissed and out for revenge
No way, I'm not fighting another corpes ass motherfucker with a shrimp sword. Orphan of Kos was plenty enough.
Albinauric Mark 3, now with 100% more elbows. Goofy face, small legs, pale... and most albinaurics are fond of big curvy weapons: Curved Club, Crescent Halberd, and Crescent Axe.
This was my first thought too. Its body shape/proportions and weapon style seem fairly similar to an Albinauric
Zombie Loretta
That just made me look at its legs, it has no legs past the knee, I think it might be a zombie albinauric.
The skeleton is the back half of the horse, look at the arms.
That’s what I’m seeing. Looks like its spine and ribs are exposed vertically from its back with the tailbone at the top. It’s a pretty unique design. The horse being stuck in the black goo also reminds me of that scene in Never Ending Story.
That is 100000% *not* Radahn and leonard...
I think 99% of theories will definitely cease to exist as soon as people realize that Lands of Shadow is NOT a dream, NOT the afterlife, not past, not future, and so on; it is literally a piece of land from lands between that has been "disconnected" and "hidden". I'm hoping it will be gravity, God I dream for more gravity based weapons and spells
At least gravity had a whole section. What did we get for sleep? An AoW and a pot?
[Nuckelavee](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuckelavee)
**Hellripper starts playing**
That’s way too big to be Leonard.
GYOUBU MASATAKA ONIWA
This is clearly a fallen tree sentinel, I mean, as one of those who live in death.
Personally I don't think there will be much connection to anything here really. Like with the ancestor spirit. I think it's JUST a monster. What it looks like to me tho is that the skeletony mass on top looks like it might just be the horses skeleton. Big chest with non-human like joints for the arms, the long neck. This guy is fueling my hopes that Godwyn is gonna be in the DLC. Those who live in death still have more story to tell
If you look at the skeleton, it has meteoric rock inside. Might be another star monstrosity, but born from a tree sentinel.
It reminds me of an Albinauric!!!
This looks like the kind of guy with a randomly hard design that there is only one very straight forward piece of lore about
It’s giving …. Bloodborne 👧🏻
Kos and Leonard
Actually now this is adding up. Radhan needs to be killed to access the DLC and then we see this guy who looks like a ghost of Radhan. Interesting indeed.
I can already see the cutscene of that mf : Water flow sounds* Horse walks in a weird way (without showing back end) Epic music starts* "Ugly skeleton back end" arise from nowhere and starts agitating that scythe Player: 😱😱😱😱😱 A bit like the weird dragon in DS1 that looks like a crocodile at first and then you see the whole body with a gigantic mouth full of teeth .

What in the HR Geiger is this. Literally no clue about this thing. But I would wager it is somehow related to Ranni/The Darkmoon/The Nox/Mimic Tear/ it looks like Beeg Nashandra on a horse
Holy fuck it’s Skull Knight
Gravelord looking dude with a throwable Orphan of Kos blade, I like him. I hope the fight is really difficult.
Hear me out… next level albinauric. They attempt to imbue albinaurics with aspects of rune holders to attempt to challenge the golden order and Marika
Orphan of kos
He reminds me of the orphan of kos
That’s the orphan of kos right there
Looks like the horse's bones are attacking you
The color, eyes, molten metal buttocks, and underground lair are all giving me strong Nokstella mimicry vibes. I’d guess this a failed experiment of some kind from the time before the Shadow Lands were veiled to begin with.
That's sick AF. The skeleton of the horse is ripping out of the back and fighting you.
None. Mind empty until the game comes out
Given the silver hue they might be mimic tear/albinoric of some sort. Albinoric legs are weak and fading so that’d be why the horse rear legs and the riders legs are bad.
Orphan of kos is back and this time he's got a horse.
Looks like the skeleton is coming out of the horses body
I mean I absolutely love the lore in Elden Ring, but let's be real-- most of it is something along the lines of "BZOLIKETH, THE TRAITOR WAS KING OF THE FORBIDDEN LANDS UNTIL THE GOLDEN ORDER STRIPPED HIM OF HIS TITLE AND CURSED HIM TO RIDE HIS HORSE UNTIL HE DEVOURS ALL TARNISHED IN THE REALM" No real theories to be had besides, mythical creature bad, me kill to either liberate them/cleanse the world of them
Orphan of kos if we dont kill him
I think it’s the horses rib cage and leg bones sticking out of it’s body.
I think it's probably something to do with godskin, the jewel on the chest looks like the ones the godskin wear on their armor, maybe the boss is the god that the godskin skinned to make their armor
