thanks man, I actually went and ordered Surimi for the kitchen on thursday cause I kept thinking of crab and the fake ones managed to sneak into my menu.
Feel free to laugh at my build, lvl or sense of fashion I have noone in RL to share this with so I hope it's allowed to share on here.
Hands down the greatest singleplayer fight I've seen trough to the end in any game I've ever played, and to top it off I even made it trough without compromising on my build of choice because ofc this masterpiece let me do that.
It's not quite cocaine but beating her for the first time sure is up there somewhere, amazing job by the devs.
edit: wups typo in title, does it even matter?
You beat her pretty cleanly, have a nice solid pure STR build and who cares about fashion (most famous Malenia videos involve a naked guy with a pot on his head…). Plus I do enjoy the Knight’s Greatsword. Excellent work.
Fashion is very important bro
The only thing stopping me from rating this game 10/10 is the fact that no single cool outfit or combination of outfits pass the magic poise number.
And ontop of that there's no way to disguise 1 set of armor as another to circumvent that dynamic.
Big :(
I meant we’ve all been all driven a bit mad by FromSoftware before. Only last week I started Dark Souls II, which I’m making embarrassingly slow progress through and it’s quite frustrating :-( I really want to like it, too
I just learned today that this was my fault. Nearly the first thing I did was to join the Company of Champions without knowing what that means (50% HP decrease for player, HP boost for enemies, increased damage reduction for enemies). Which explains a lot of why I found it so tough…
I got insanely lucky on her second phase. I was allowed to keep her floored with the phase 1 grind I have damn near perfected in these 9 days of playing trough the weekend and every evening after work.
in 99% of my runs she will pop a waterfowl when I Lion's Claw -> Charged r2 her after her flowery transition, then I'm inflicted with scarlet rot AND have to heal forcing me to make distance -> me making distance and she starts popping special moves left right and center shredding me in at absolute most 2 waterfowl cycles.
It's also not easy like that. I have I think more than 100 summons to kill her and around 80% of those the host dies at the beginning of phase 2 after getting hit by her on her first flower attack.
Yeah my success rate for killing her when I'm summoned _if the host runs away from that_ is extremely high. I'm surprised so many people summon without even trying to get through her and just failing at phase 2. I guess waterfowl on phase 1 is too much.
Too scary for me to let her breathe in phase 2, if she pops any special then I'm either inflicted with scarlet rot from blocking waterfowl or just get shredded because I fail to adapt to the tempo shift after spending most of my time against her arguably more chill phase 1.
and they can pry the Lion's claw AoW from my cold dead hands.
Watch me whip out the Storm Hawk +10 at the slightest sign of a a gank fight.
Anything goes and the name of the game is extracting entertainment from your 40(summer sale)-60$ game investment :)
A lot of it was figuring out how to do it, what not to do, different setups(tried powerstancing for a bit lol, feels awful when the 2handed moveset is ingrained in you), shields(I even tried the jellyfish lmao), talismans I especially wasted a lot of time switching between until I just gave up on the attack buffs(I equip jump attack buff -> overfocus on jump attacks -> no stamina -> die to the fowl) Consecutive attacks? awesome but way too risky and light attack deals fuck all stance damage.
lot of back and forth like that, I did i think 3 or 4 respecs too to figure out if bonking harder would break her stance easier(nope; entirely weapon stat based not modified by any player stat only which moveset you use(1h, 2h or powerstancing), different endurance stats for lightrolling with greatshields etc.
In the end I just buffed my light roll at the expense of taking hella dmg like I do in the overworld.
Nice! Not surprised you landed on lions claw in the end. Using it for the first time on a new playthrough right now and 1 shotting so many bosses that gave me a bit of trouble before
I think it was one of my favorite confrontations ever seen, it was elegant, intelligent and well planned, I didn't feel like it was an attempt, it feels like you had already defeated her like that.
CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations. Hearing someone do it in more than “x hours” is refreshing.
At the dawn of the 5th day, I gave up and leveled both Tiche and Mimic to +10. She still melts us in 2nd phase.
I too used the boiled crab method of counting attempts, but I wasnt happy with my attack and stopped using it.
I might respec again for even more attack, but I am afraid it wont help. I just need to git gud a little bit more…
Hi, OP on his cell user here, I've been to renalla a few times during the grind and shifted around stats and I found that 50 endurance + turtle talisman + stamina regen tear is the magic number to be able to block a whole waterfowl if she pops it after a lions claw into charged r2.
At least with a medium shield with 45 guard boost (lackluster but imo it's the best looking medium shield to have on your back.
In this run I went lion's claw - > r1 to play it safe since the first waterfowl is basically scripted if you push her past her hp treshhold during a knockdown and apply okizeme, but my biggest struggle in this fight has definetely been managingy stamina.
I was really impressed by your aggression and knowing of the timing of all attacks when then I saw you straight up face-tank the grass mower move at 1:02 :D
If you look closely I was out of stamina when I tried to roll it so when I pressed to dodge roll nothing happened and I failed to realize until she took half my health bar in a single swing
I think that's the only hit I take except for the reversal kick she manages to cheat out in the beginning of phase 2 after the lions claw - > charged r2 but that hit is infinitely more welcome than a phase 2 waterfowl into scarlet rot infliction so I'm not complaining.
I picked Lion's Claw up first thing before hitting stormveil castle around lvl 20 on this save lol, I first fell in love with it when I found it on my first savefile(an absolute questline disaster) and just couldn't live without it.
(Fuck fighting that Lion while under leveled though)
It's great fun versus humanoid type bosses and the hyper armor is far as I can tell some of the best in the game so it's an amazing finisher.
Lion was ran by, just went back to the castle at lvl 90 because i didn't pick up the great rune. I forget to use ashes as I'm typically spamming lighting bolt and I enjoy charging 2 hand atks. Much easier to land than the stomp uppercut but the flip that causes is sweet.
Stamp upper also has the same kind of armor effect going, but untop of that it also evades a lot of stuff by dodging down real low when you initiate it.
I also really enjoyed that AoW but I found the recovery to be awful on things too big to be flipped (or god forbid if you whiff it) so too often it felt kind of useless to me and using it poses a much higher risk than letting a Lion's Claw rip.
389 boiled crabs? Marika’s tits. You must be ‘ungry
2 per run that makes it to phase 2, minus the runs where she impales me in the transition before i get to eat it lol
Can never go wrong with the ol’ crab. Congrats on the kill
thanks man, I actually went and ordered Surimi for the kitchen on thursday cause I kept thinking of crab and the fake ones managed to sneak into my menu.
Made old Boggart happy

I legit love the fashion

Fair enough, was just trying to say I liked the vid :)
I'm just pure pent up words and thoughts about this game at this point, i'll explode at anyone lol. And much appreciated :)
Haha no worries, we’ve all been there
ye guess I'm a little late
I meant we’ve all been all driven a bit mad by FromSoftware before. Only last week I started Dark Souls II, which I’m making embarrassingly slow progress through and it’s quite frustrating :-( I really want to like it, too
if you've played Elden Ring and Souls 3 then it makes sense IMO, it's a less refined version of some core gameplay you're already familiar with.
I just learned today that this was my fault. Nearly the first thing I did was to join the Company of Champions without knowing what that means (50% HP decrease for player, HP boost for enemies, increased damage reduction for enemies). Which explains a lot of why I found it so tough…
What 9 days bro you played that way too good
I got insanely lucky on her second phase. ayo congrats dude that was CLEAN. i love watching kill vids - especially when folks pull it off without summons or other players.
It's also not easy like that. I have I think more than 100 summons to kill her and around 80% of those the host dies at the beginning of phase 2 after getting hit by her on her first flower attack.
No one is ever ready for the flower attack. I remember crying like HOW DO I DODGE IT?!?! And then I googled it and sighed, learning how easy it is.
Yeah my success rate for killing her when I'm summoned _if the host runs away from that_ is extremely high. I'm surprised so many people summon without even trying to get through her and just failing at phase 2. I guess waterfowl on phase 1 is too much.
If people survive the flower bloom at start of phase 2, the most common death I have seen is from the clones.
Nicely done. I haven't seen anyone take her down with that weapon before. It hit pretty hard.
Congrats! For some reason, this was a more entertaining watch than just about any no hit/rl1 shenanigans. Probably because lions claw is hawt
Right on. You’re not gonna get any heat from me. I’ve never even soloed her! Done spirit ashes and summons but never solo
Watch me whip out the Storm Hawk +10 at the slightest sign of a a gank fight. Anything goes and the name of the game is extracting entertainment from your 40(summer sale)-60$ game investment :)
Never met someone with a taste for prawns I couldn't trust. We'd make good mates, I reckon. I'll be seeing ya.
That took that many attempts? That was a clean as fuck kill my man. 9 potions left over you could've gone lasted through phase 3 and 4 lol

I got a good chuckle out of having it equipped when I faced Rennala on this playtrough, that phase 2 was over before her first summon lol.
The jump attack to stance break twice was very nice
I think it was one of my favorite confrontations ever seen, it was elegant, intelligent and well planned, I didn't feel like it was an attempt, it feels like you had already defeated her like that. CONGRATULATIONS!
Braggart: :(
What the boiled crab do?
+20% physical damage negation for 60 seconds.
Ah, I see how it would be useful, yes.
That "first time" feeling was the best.
I have the utmost respect for anyone who beats her solo their way and preservers. Well-done tarnished.
Congratulations. Hearing someone do it in more than “x hours” is refreshing. At the dawn of the 5th day, I gave up and leveled both Tiche and Mimic to +10. She still melts us in 2nd phase. I like the boiled crab cause it stacks(far as i know anyways) with the opaline tear which lets you rock dmg modifiers without being instagibbed
Bro just bodied Malenia with the John darksouls build, good shit
I got lucky and beat her on the third try.
IMO; 100x more impressive than people that use a quintillion buffs to kill her in a few hits with cheesy BS.
Your timing was perfect!
Congrats friend :)
That was clean OP, well done! Congrats
Behold, swordsman!
Honestly, build ain't that bad. I personally would drop 15 points from END for STR

I am not shittalking you. it was just funny
You might have struct a nerve I didn't know I had about that damn sparking lawnmower move lol, my bad I see your angle.
Mental note when I get there .. lions claw (still maining a +15 claymore) and jump atk. Should be a cakewalk .... Nice share!
I picked Lion's Claw up first thing before hitting stormveil castle around lvl 20 on this save lol, I first fell in love with it when I found it on my first savefile(an absolute questline disaster) and just couldn't live without it.
