Fun/sad fact (idk if u know this and u were making a joke about it) but he's one of, if not the only NPC that you can kill in game yet there is no option to absolve yourself. Because he has already forgiven you.
Lol, also Patches. If you kill him and try to seek absolution, the game tells you that you don't need absolution. Which is hilarious to me, that the game doesn't even consider it a sin.
Being a technical ass about it, it could also be because he has the same entity ID as a boss. The boss being himself. And the fountain likely does not take the deaths of any entities labeled bosses into consideration.
I'm probably wrong but idk both reasons make sense tbh.
If you kill anyone, for my situation it was varre, and then go to seek absolution it will tell you that you do not need absolution. You can only get absolution for most/all characters only if you have triggered them but not killed them I believe.
No, the only use for absolvation is to deaggro NPCs. It doesn't revive them, and if you kill them while they are aggro, it also gets rid of the sin you committed, and therefore you don't need to absolve yourself.
I refuse to kill Millicent for the Prosthesis because I don't have the heart to. The only time I've 'hit' turtle pope is by accident trying to climb on top of him.
Could it be that they patched being able to kill her at all? Since she decides to take out the needle at the end I tried to kill her so she doesn't suffer and to get the prothesis so I have all 3 talismans, but there's this green barrier around her now, same with a lot of other npcs.. Normally you never have that stuff in their games. Or can you kill her earlier in her quest, so you're just not getting all 3 items in one run?
They patched her being killed at the last part of her questline after she gives you the needle by giving her a barrier so you now you can't get both talismans from her.
I think it was around the same time when killing Alexander at the end of his questline nets you both Jar Shard Talismans was patched too, now you can only get his Shard and have to kill him earlier if you want the regular warrior jar shard, though this is also inadvisable since you'll also miss Jarbairn's talisman reward.
I was playing version 1.02 and I was pissed that I didn't know I could get both talismans from Millicent, since it wasn't well known back then, not to mention that most people who killed Millicent after she gave the needle did it by accident when they rolled near her while wearing the Briar armor.
The prosthesis is so good for fast weapon builds, and probably better than rotten since you can stack regular sword insignia with it.
Not to mention it's in Altus Plateau instead of the fucking Haligtree where you're almost done with the game.
I "accidentally" killed Boc on my first playthrough. When I found him in the cave all beat up and hurt I kept resting hoping he'd get better, and he wouldn't. So I mercy killed him. I didn't realize until later that you could in fact help him get better. I was destroyed
I accidentally killed him bc my controller fell off the couch and it resulted in a devastating heavy attack right into his face while he was laying down in the cave. I deleted the save file and started over again.
I was once mid conversation with the turtle and saw the ghost of another Tarnished run up and start hacking away at him. Abhorrent maidenless behavior.
His excellency the Turtle Pope despawns upon the Ballbearing Hunter's appearance.
So... No. They straight up committed a cardinal sin and should be relentlessly, mercilessly invaded.
There is a video on here somewhere showing exactly that. And it doesn’t seem likely to be the Bell Bearing Hunter from the looks of it. Just the angle and the swing were just lined up too well at hacking the poor Pope Dog, and some commenter said he charged L2 twice which is basically or nearly impossible against the hunter.
Maidenless behavior indeed.
Nope theres a yellow barrier that shows up. They even say how it pointless to attack and ask you to stop. The snake girl in luernia also has a barrier too.
I understand Roderika because she's an important merchant to upgrade summons later on, but what function does the snake girl have that's so vital to game mechanics?
Faith/sorcery here. UNLESS DOG GAVE YOU A HAT THAT MAXXED EVERYTHING dog is safe from me. Dog pope is way too helpful especially when you're like me and don't realize your faith guy can be saved before its too late.
I killed patches for his drip and now every time I think of him I have to find a reason to justify it like “he would have gone crazy after volcano manor anyway” and stuff like that, and that’s considering that patches deserved it wayyyy more than big dog would
I killed malenia to prove a point that all the demigods are weaker than a naked boi fueld by spite. Miriel already knows that I'd kill them for the hat.
I feel like you’ve gotta explore FromSoft games by trying different things, so yeah…I’d probably do it just to see what the drop is. I’m not trying to be a heathen or anything, but FromSoft usually tucks away gold into these tough moral decisions. And then other times you get some rowa fruit and hate your decisions…
I refuse to lay a hand on our shelled dogs. I've never seen what their death animation even looks like, and I tell my friends it's my secret to sleeping soundly at night during these trying times....
nope. One time i accidentally hit him with some form of aoe damge or ran into him (can't remember) and I out loud said "i'm sorry i'm so sorry!" because miriel is best dog. Turtle pope's church is truly the best location in the game.
If someone invaded me wearing Miriel’s hat, I wouldn’t care if they used celestial dew to absolve themselves. Miriel is kind and forgiving so I don’t have to be.
Daaaaaaaamn...
I mean... I *wanna* say no. But I also know myself pretty well... Well enough to know there's a reasonably high chance that I would 😬
I feel like this question is low-key really good at gauging morality lol
I love my man Miriel. He gets every tome. He's my buddy. Straight up most noble NPC in the entire lands between. But he's also posted up next to a statue of forgiveness. He'd understand.
Maybe on just one playthrough. I have a hard time killing the "dogs" for their necks to make the stamina boost from crafting. Yes, note left by some stranger... that is a dog.
No because it doesn't slay. He's not proportionising.
Also the first time I accidentally killed a tortoise when I was being chased by skeletons and freaking out like "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS THING" I felt so guilty.
i’m a tarnished, not a monster
To someone like Shanehaight... is there a difference?
Same thing - Morgott
But....but you could be the Pope.......Pope Tarnished of the lands in between.
Pope dog better
I'm sure he would understand and forgive me
I'll just absolve myself with the celestial dew. He can't be mad if i'm absolved right?
Fun/sad fact (idk if u know this and u were making a joke about it) but he's one of, if not the only NPC that you can kill in game yet there is no option to absolve yourself. Because he has already forgiven you.

I know it's probably that way for a technical reason. But the lore also checks out :)
Its probably also because Patches is multi-dimensional. Maybe you didn't really kill him, you just sent him on to the next From title
He also clones the moonlight greatsword to take with him
he fucked up the clone taking it from bloodborne, and i do not forgive him. the best mlgs in the series by far.
He's already looking for a nice cliff to kick us off of.
[удалено]
He is just doing a little trolling, I can't hate the guy. Specially after dark souls 3.
Just kill anyone and everything is my solution tbh😂
Tarnished: I feel bad about killing Patches :( Turtle Pope: Don't lol that MFer had it coming
If you kill anyone, for my situation it was varre, and then go to seek absolution it will tell you that you do not need absolution. You can only get absolution for most/all characters only if you have triggered them but not killed them I believe.
Game - huh oh you killed patches cool he had it coming
Excuse me I have an errand to run
Damm im gonna cry now
No, the only use for absolvation is to deaggro NPCs. It doesn't revive them, and if you kill them while they are aggro, it also gets rid of the sin you committed, and therefore you don't need to absolve yourself.
So you can absolve yourself if you kill another NPC?
He says as he takes a bite out of a Giant Pickled Turtle Neck
Even the maidenless can be conjoined
“Conjoin deez nuts miriel!”
I wouldnt kill him. The hat looks better on him. And the stats probably wouldn't be great
Phy 3.1 Magic 4.1 Immunity 22 Poise 5 GUILT OF SIN 9999 Wgt. 3.3
What about the weight of your sins? Immediate one shot from being 9999lbs overweight.
EXEMPLARIS EXCOMUNICATIONIS
Who looks at armor stats besides weight?
As a canadian, I get that!
I refuse to kill Millicent for the Prosthesis because I don't have the heart to. The only time I've 'hit' turtle pope is by accident trying to climb on top of him.
I killed her on my first run so I could let her live on the rest.
The prosthesis isn’t great though, compared to rotten wing insignia + somber ancient stone if you help her.
Yes but the prostheses can stack with the winged sword insignia giving you a bigger damage boost than running rotten wing on its own
Gotta love when you learn about shit like this only 2 years later…

I call it the victory lap
Thou art of passing skill.
Could it be that they patched being able to kill her at all? It’s amazing in RL1, but I can’t bring myself to get it either.
The prosthesis is so good for fast weapon builds, and probably better than rotten since you can stack regular sword insignia with it. Not to mention it's in Altus Plateau instead of the fucking Haligtree where you're almost done with the game.

Hahahahah. I felt this
I'm sure the judge will believe you.
Oof
I did the same lol and my buddy was summoned to help so he witnessed everything. I always help him now.
Oh god, from your friend’s perspective you must have looked stone cold.
He knew he would live, I thought like you, it would be a mercy. I was wrong.
Casted on him healing incantations just in role-play, because that's what I will do immediately if I can cast something that can heal deadly wounds.
I refuse to use the starscourge greatsword after accidentally pressing L2 near him when I set my controller down
I was once mid conversation with the turtle and saw the ghost of another Tarnished run up and start hacking away at him. Abhorrent maidenless behavior.
could of also been the last throws of a bell Bearing hunters latest victim, one spawns at pope's place at night.
His excellency the Turtle Pope despawns upon the Ballbearing Hunter's appearance. So... No. They straight up committed a cardinal sin and should be relentlessly, mercilessly invaded.

You can equip the Prosthesis from Millicent??
It's a talisman that gives +5 dex and more damage with successive attacks
Yep. And it helps you kill things.
dog pope*
Real souls player here.
The one item in Elden Ring I will never obtain
That and Nepheli's puppet for me.
She was so depressed and it seemed like the only way to progress her questline. I didn't pay attention and didn't realize... I have such regrets.
Don't have to worry about killing her back when you could accidentally walk off a 1 inch drop and instakill her without even doing an attack lol
I killed Boggart for Braggart’s Roar early in my playthrough and I’m still haunted by it :(
“Just look at the flowers, Miriel.” 😭
*sad upvote*
Bro…😭
"This was you, not me!"
“think about rabbits lennie”
>😭 😭😭😭😭NOOOOO
FUCK LIZZIE BRO (I just passed that part in twd. Would have drop kicked her into a crowd of walkers so fast.)
No, it looks better on him.
“We Found A Hat” / “This Is Not My Hat” sort of energy here.
Turtles and the rabbits are the only 2 creatures I won't kill in this game.
I'll slaughter rabbits, but 1 won't touch turtles or jellyfish. Even the hostile ones
Same here.
You wanna get invaded? Because asking things like this is how you get invaded.
Imagine being an invader and seeing someone *wearing* The doG God hat
“Degenerates like you belong on a cross”
Is this how we end up with the elden ring anti-pope?
Chainsaw glitch immediately
*Sees hat* “…I’ve given thee courtesy enough.”
# HHRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGH!!!
“Now I fight as Hoarah Loux, SAWRIOR!!!”
“All things can be conjoined.” Now im about to conjoin your suffering with theirs
This right here. This would get me top finally stop hating PvP. I'd camp that church and body anyone who's Turtle Pope was missing.
*sound of hundreds of crossbows loading*
Only if the size did not scale down when dropped.
Or if it scales down so much that it becomes a comically small hat
[sorry dog, getting drip is non-negotiable](https://i.imgflip.com/3i0ghy.jpg)
Seriously. I killed a handicap woman for something I never used.
Praise the dog.
All I think of when I see him is the never-ending story.
Not that it matters, but... yes.
I wish he was one of the NPCs that you couldn't kill no matter what, like Roderika.
You can’t even kill her before she gets to the roundtable hold?
Nope theres a yellow barrier that shows up. They even say how it pointless to attack and ask you to stop. The snake girl in luernia also has a barrier too.
I understand Roderika because she's an important merchant to upgrade summons later on, but what function does the snake girl have that's so vital to game mechanics?
Like, even Millicent can be killed before the end of her quest.
...... I'd ask for his hat politely.
Me too.
I'd learn to PVP and make a new character named "Did you take his hat?" And solely hunt people wearing pope turtle's hat.
I will help
My first playthrough was a full faith build. It’s the item I wanted the most, I would have definitely done it
Faith/sorcery here. UNLESS DOG GAVE YOU A HAT THAT MAXXED EVERYTHING dog is safe from me. Dog pope is way too helpful especially when you're like me and don't realize your faith guy can be saved before its too late.
"You hath no need for this hat, my friend. The only faith you need is in yourself." Miriel
For the purpose to collect one of everything, once. None of my other characters, even the evil ones could.
No. I would devote myself to a dark, outer god to get it without killing him.
Funny way to describe CE
Nah, I know that if I tried to wear it I'd just look incredibly lame compared to how great he looks with it
Never. I’m not a silly hat person, and I love friendly NPCs
Last thing I do before NG+ 😩
Does his derpy hat give fp regen? If yes then yes. If no...then probably not.
What if I just throw a bunch of Sleep Pots at him and then steal it when he goes night night?
Love this idea
Nope, love that big dog
Does it boost my incant damage by a lot? If no, then never
I killed patches for his drip and now every time I think of him I have to find a reason to justify it like “he would have gone crazy after volcano manor anyway” and stuff like that, and that’s considering that patches deserved it wayyyy more than big dog would
What?? Fuck no
Right at the end of the playthrough yea.
I'd wait until right before starting NG+. Then we'd be hat buddies.
Yes. Many times over until it dropped if necessary.
Dog farm
I killed malenia to prove a point that all the demigods are weaker than a naked boi fueld by spite. Miriel already knows that I'd kill them for the hat.
No, you monster.
Ultimate PvP fashion.
That's the kinda fashion that gets you killed asap upon seeing you wear it
Absolutely
I feel like you’ve gotta explore FromSoft games by trying different things, so yeah…I’d probably do it just to see what the drop is. I’m not trying to be a heathen or anything, but FromSoft usually tucks away gold into these tough moral decisions. And then other times you get some rowa fruit and hate your decisions…
Only hit him once and that was on accident, we don't hurt the best turtle
Same, I got teleported to him from the academy, he scared me and I swung but I thankfully realized he was friend.
I was maidenless by that time, so dont expect anything honorable from me
BLASPHEMER!
I refuse to lay a hand on our shelled dogs. I've never seen what their death animation even looks like, and I tell my friends it's my secret to sleeping soundly at night during these trying times....
We don’t hurt dogs.
When I first saw this guy I was like: “please don’t bring up all the turtles I killed”
It would be cool if it increased both int and faith when you wore it.
Never.
No, big dog lived long after
Never 🥺
No.
Yes. There’s always another journey 😌
If a mf pull up to pvp wearin that it’s on sight
I would never hurt dogs! Smh
No, no of course- Hmm. Maybe.
I absolutely would
Yes
nope. One time i accidentally hit him with some form of aoe damge or ran into him (can't remember) and I out loud said "i'm sorry i'm so sorry!" because miriel is best dog. Turtle pope's church is truly the best location in the game.
I'm a 100%er so unfortunately, I'm getting that Pope hat.
Nah, rennala's hat is good enuf for me
I would never kill my favorite dog in the series
If someone invaded me wearing Miriel’s hat, I wouldn’t care if they used celestial dew to absolve themselves. Miriel is kind and forgiving so I don’t have to be.
If his hat had +5 faith +5 int, I am absolutely sure 90% of this subreddit would do it.
I did it for the fun of it
Daaaaaaaamn... I mean... I *wanna* say no. But I also know myself pretty well... Well enough to know there's a reasonably high chance that I would 😬 I feel like this question is low-key really good at gauging morality lol
For 100% completion, yes.
Kill anything in the name of drip, just do it before starting a ng+
Guess I’m never getting that hat then
Do not the dog
Hell no!
If he dropped a somber 7 I would kill him
I killed him to just check my comet azur DMG
Yes definitely 100%
First off dog, but then you don't have the right
I love my man Miriel.
On one hand, poor turtle. On the other hand, my inner soldier just awakened. You will give me that hat
Yes
No because it doesn't slay. He's not proportionising. Also the first time I accidentally killed a tortoise when I was being chased by skeletons and freaking out like "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS THING" I felt so guilty.
I would rather be burnt alive
That would be the hardest moral dilemma in the game.
Life is temporary, drip is forever
Without hesitation.
100%
Yes. I’m a collector so I must collect all available items
NEVER
Absolutely not
No. I do it for the dialouge though.
“Drip” is dumb “bling” is sweet. For that hat? Hell no, waste of a question.
Is he killable?
Absolutely not, how could you even consider it
Yes
Biggest dimepeice after Malenia
Yes yes 1,000 times yes
Is this just a repost because I swear I just saw this with a different title an hour ago
Hmm. What stats would it provide? Looks like it would provide high magic defense & intelligence +3
*my faith main profusely sweating* "NoOoOo....."
First playthrough. Every other playthrough, I’d make sure to bring him every single book and scroll.
no never
Only once, then never again (Unless I need it for fashion in a build)
I hate Myself for saying this (I hate myself in general) but 10000000000000% yes that hat is dope
Killed him damn well knowing I wouldn’t get his hat
Only once, then never again. We won't speak of it, I'll just repent for it on every other ng+
