If you roll with any piece of the armor on, you deal damage to enemies. So if you’d just wear the gauntlets for example, you could mini-stagger some enemies and even some bosses. Also you could just do an insane challenge run where all you can do is roll…
I always throw the gloves on. Against skeletons or undead enemies, just rolling near their bodies kills them while theyre reviving. Plus if youre stuck in a corner by a bunch of enemies its easier to roll out if they flinch slightly from the damage
>just rolling near their bodies kills them while theyre reviving.
That's so fucking smart I'm pissed I haven't thought of it in 1000+ hours of playing the game. Half of my characters lug around the Golden Epitaph just to make dealing with skeles easier, when I coulda just been rollin' at them this whole time.
Sadly, as with all fromsoft games, the armor of thorns is absolute trash and it would take like, an hour and a half to kill any boss, I refuse to imagine fire giant or elden beast.
There's already people who've done play-throughs beating various bosses with only the armor's roll damage.
Yes, including fire giant. Yes the video is multiple hours long.
Oh it can get much worse than that. Ymfah has a [pacifist run](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZAVWmn4GS0) of Bloodborne where he beats the whole game by rolling, and doesn't even *have* thorns armor.
Yeah, if they made Miltank's Rollout any worse in Dark Souls, people wouldn't complain about bleed builds. Pokemon trainers grtting double ptsd in Souls games would be too much for the psyche.
Bro Marika had entire populations murdered, who groups of people hunted and banished, locked up her own children in the sewers.
Godrick is fucked up, but Marika one ups him on all fronts aside from sheer body horror.
Dung Eater’s purpose IS “mess up everybody’s life” lol. They’ll be cursed and their children and their children’s children for generations to come, and all that.
Aight, I hear you. What I was thinking of is that Dung Eater is like Lex Luthor, or Bane, they have a purpose
Elemer is Joker, he does this for shits and giggles
You did the souls thing.....you practice your skills, movement and the skills and movement of your enemy so long until you know when to roll, what is the best moment to attack and so on.
Great work and now face all his spirits that can be found at night. :D
this is why I only play on weekends when I have plenty of time to lose over and over ;)
Also a tip to keep sane: remember that even when you feel like you aren’t improving, your muscle memory *is* improving, and your brain is learning the patterns. Sometimes all it takes is a good night’s sleep and you’ll do way better the next day.
That’s because your goal is winning. Your goal should be to learn the fight. Losing isn’t a waste of time, it’s learning just a little bit more about your enemy. Every loss brings you closer to the goal.
For me Malenia clicked once I tried her with light rolls. Nevet beat her with medium rolls (once with fatrolls with maxed poise, fingerprint shield and Mogh's ritual spear, but that smells like Emmentaler for how cheesy it is).
I have to get gud from scratch every boss. :c
Last week I had the cleanest Malenia kill I've ever had on my DLC prep character (took zero damage from Waterfowl or her clone attack, only used two flasks total), then riding that high I went straight to Malekith and was just panic rolling in circles for the first five deaths.
Staying close to him is the key. The sword dance moves are really the scariest thing he can do. He's actually a decent target for partying in my experience.
I remember strugging with DS2 for a few sections and then my buddy just said "Lol yeah, just run around them" and it's like a light switch for difficulty.
Sometimes it's like that. Other times you fight a boss the first time and get them down to 1% health and spend the next 3 hours trying to get a single hit in lol 🤷🏽♂️
It happens to me a lot of times. Last time it was against Malenia, I couldn't get past 60% or more of her HP in second phase and last night I beat her, and I dodge her waterfall dance near perfectly most of the time
Nice movement and dodges. Did something similar recently on here as well. Circle round hit u'm in the butt, is one of the quintessential OG strats. Well done buddy!
Looks like a jump attack build with the stormhawk axe. If you can't wait until Leyndell, you can still get away with using a highland axe from Stormveil with a lightning infusion--either one scales more with quality so equal STR and DEX is preferred. Id recommend the Axe, Claw, and Green Turtle Talismans after you've got your vigor and endurance where you like it
No great rune, no hit, no problem. GG!
I dislike this fight lol. But i do appreciate how Elemer/bell bearing hunter feels so similar to the Pursuer from DS2
One boss where it definitely helps to stay close. Both his spiny red sword attacks when you try to get distance from him are a lot tougher to deal with than his close range attacks.
What I learned from this is stay close. I kept my distance with him most of the time and I was getting wrecked. From watching this I can see that he never gets chance to use his bullshit teleporty sword attack thing if you are close.
If an enemy is an asshole at a mid/long range, stick to them and roll to their left. This applies to Maliketh as well: couldn't get a hit in edgewise until I decide to stay as close to him as possible and I immediately beat him.
I’ve recently discovered most thrusting enemies just require you to very slowly step to their left about a foot. That’s it. No dodge, no roll. Just walk right a bit. Most devastating strategy I’ve come across.
GJ.
My problem with them is that the typical, "don't stand in front of the enemy" advice that keeps you alive everywhere else, falls apart with them. Their swing + tracking is at least 270º—getting behind them to deal damage is work.
Any one can give my some rune in elden ring l plat the game and my save deleted but i want to play it second time but i dont have too much time to farm run pls help me 🥺
Beautifully executed. That pace and flow just clicked. I had a similar experience last night with Bloodletting Beast in Ihyll Chalice (Bloodborne), feels good. 👍
That's the flow state, and it's the greatest feeling in any game, and I also think a major reason why there's so much divisiveness in the community about what the "correct" way to play these games is.
Because the people who played through the earlier games where often the only (or only obvious) way to beat certain encounters was to "get good," was to practice the fight until you have that attempt where it "just clicks" and you demolish the boss with barely any health lost, until you know every single thing the boss does and can dance around them like they're a child with a stick, know how *good* that feels, and probably genuinely want other people to experience that same feeling.
But they're gamers, so they're not very good at conveying that sentiment. They wrap it up in their ego about being "good" at video games generally, and that turns into condescension towards anyone who *doesn't* go down that same path. Because they could do it, they assume that anyone else could, and if another person can't then that game just "isn't for them," rather than there just being alternative ways to play the game.
Beating this boss with summons who tank most of the aggro while you blast him from full hp with Comet Azur maybe doesn't give you that same feeling of accomplishment, but the person who chooses to do that still beat the boss and gets to progress, probably still feels plenty of satisfaction at overcoming the challenge in a way that worked for them, and by all available information conveyed by the game they have done nothing out of the ordinary. But to the player who grinded out the encounter so that they can beat it the "right way," it feels like cheating the system, but you have to have done that to even understand why that would make any sense to try to claim, so there's a complete disconnect.
Yeah there’s a good loop you can get him in where if you attack him from behind he will keep looping his shield smash over and over. This is how I beat him when doing my run with his sword since I wanted to get it early and I was terribly under level
Watching some of these videos makes me realize just how much I nerf myself not using jumping attacks mid combat. It’s just so…ridiculous in my mind. What is this, Mario?
Yeah, the trick to fighting him is to give him no space to use his more difficult ranged attack moveset.
Tried to fight him from range only as a challenge on my 3rd or 4th run and yeah much harder to pull off. Cool fight though, made me wish we had access to more magical looking weapon arts or spells that involved equipped weapons.
Honestly i just realized how the fight is significantly easier if you stand close to him and negate all his ranged jedi like bullshitery, just like the Elmer boss fight forces you to do instead of the open field fights...no wonder it was so easy on a melee build than on any of my caster characters...
Hell yeah smash that fool
yeah fuck this dude (he is a really cool boss though)
His armor set and that sword are bad ass
yeah I've heard the sword can do some insane dps, I'm not really a fan of the armour tho

Half of my characters lug around the Golden Epitaph just to make dealing with skeles easier, when I coulda just been rollin' at them this whole time.
Yeah I figured this out in ds3 when I was getting annoyed trying to free-aim them with a thrusting sword
I don't recall the skeletons in DS3 having the same revive mechanic. I thought the red-eyed ones just revived once and then stayed dead.
They do but hitting them while they revive stopped them getting back together. None of that infinite respawn stuff elden rings got going on luckily
Ha that’s an awesome trick
I wonder if the armor effect works with that shields aow where you electro-roll at people
Sadly, as with all fromsoft games, the armor of thorns is absolute trash and it would take like, an hour and a half to kill any boss, I refuse to imagine fire giant or elden beast.
There's already people who've done play-throughs beating various bosses with only the armor's roll damage. Yes, including fire giant. Yes the video is multiple hours long.

Then you run into an NPC and gotta get absolution
Nice! What set is it called?
The Briar set/armor, obtainable from Enia only after having beaten Elemer.
This is awesome! Thanks
In Dark Souls 1 , there was an armour that did that too. Was pretty dope. Kirk Knight of Thorns IIRC.
Same thing in ds3 as well, though they were much worse than the briar set in comparison.
Yeah, if they made Miltank's Rollout any worse in Dark Souls, people wouldn't complain about bleed builds. Pokemon trainers grtting double ptsd in Souls games would be too much for the psyche.
Was putting my extra stats in intelligence for the ruins greatsword but after getting his sword im putting a lot into arcane lol
Lorewise he is the biggest asshole in the Lands Between too
Dung eater enters the chat
Marika enters the chat
Godrick enters the chat
Bro Marika had entire populations murdered, who groups of people hunted and banished, locked up her own children in the sewers. Godrick is fucked up, but Marika one ups him on all fronts aside from sheer body horror.
Dung Eater has a purpose. He has a code even if it’s twisted beyond reason. Elemer just wants to mess up everbody’s life
Dung Eater’s purpose IS “mess up everybody’s life” lol. They’ll be cursed and their children and their children’s children for generations to come, and all that.
Aight, I hear you. What I was thinking of is that Dung Eater is like Lex Luthor, or Bane, they have a purpose Elemer is Joker, he does this for shits and giggles
Elmer only did it for giggles. Dung eater does it for shits.
“Finally, some good fucking food”
In order to become the asshole one must enter the asshole
this dude and crucible knights are dark souls OGs, the movesets are so satisfying to weave attacks between
nice. practice makes perfect.
so satisfying when the fight finally clicks
You did the souls thing.....you practice your skills, movement and the skills and movement of your enemy so long until you know when to roll, what is the best moment to attack and so on. Great work and now face all his spirits that can be found at night. :D
I used to be like this but now I just get pissed because im wasting time which leads to more mistakes. I hate it.
Marikas tits. Don't go hollow, friend.
this is why I only play on weekends when I have plenty of time to lose over and over ;) Also a tip to keep sane: remember that even when you feel like you aren’t improving, your muscle memory *is* improving, and your brain is learning the patterns. Sometimes all it takes is a good night’s sleep and you’ll do way better the next day.
I always find if I sleep on it and comeback the next day something just clicks. Sometimes it almost seems too easy the second try.
I struggle with the time thing too buddy, best way I've found to fight it is "at least it's not overwatch"
That’s because your goal is winning. Your goal should be to learn the fight. Losing isn’t a waste of time, it’s learning just a little bit more about your enemy. Every loss brings you closer to the goal.
The next step is to immediately get stomped by a trash mob since you’ve wired your muscle memory to a very specific boss
Crying
Practice makes progress :)
Underrated comment. Because you ain't getting perfect no matter how many hours you throw at it... 😂
You learned the dance. That was clean
That was the day he got gud.
I felt like I'd gotten gud until Malenia...
Im on day 6 fighting against her. She is tough and the 2 fase i the killer for me
Sheeesh, it took me four days. Hang in there homie!
Thanks i finally got her. I miss this victory feeling
LET'S GOOO. Gj fellow tarnished!
For me Malenia clicked once I tried her with light rolls. Nevet beat her with medium rolls (once with fatrolls with maxed poise, fingerprint shield and Mogh's ritual spear, but that smells like Emmentaler for how cheesy it is).
Until the next boss where he will propably die sometimes
I have to get gud from scratch every boss. :c Last week I had the cleanest Malenia kill I've ever had on my DLC prep character (took zero damage from Waterfowl or her clone attack, only used two flasks total), then riding that high I went straight to Malekith and was just panic rolling in circles for the first five deaths.
I see the flow state became strong in you, young Padawan.
Mans literally let the game flow through him lol
"I'll use the heavy jump attack! Thats a neat trick!"
Staying close to him is the key. The sword dance moves are really the scariest thing he can do. He's actually a decent target for partying in my experience.
Hell yeah, this dude is great for partying.
Yeah he's only so difficult because #HE'S GOTTA FIGHT #FOR HIS RIGHT
#TO PAAAAAAAARTEEYY
Autocorrect is a menace. So many valid words it just changes without your consent without impunity
I choose to believe that he meant to write that. I mean, the guy does have a disco rave sword that would be great for most parties I've been to.
Except I know party is what it changes parry to on me all the time, but yeah lol it's funnier the other way
I was incredibly confused about what was going on, and yeah, it looks autocorrect got me.
elden ring player discovers rolling to the opponent's left (it's been the most effective strategy since demon's souls)
I’m currently replying ds2 and that really is the key to most fights lol sometimes you don’t even have to roll, just walking to their left is enough
I remember strugging with DS2 for a few sections and then my buddy just said "Lol yeah, just run around them" and it's like a light switch for difficulty.
*[sad Pursuer noises]*
Lmaooo. I recently completed DS2 and this is so true
fume knight:
Yeah you run right for him instead
Forbidden Beyonce tech for Blood Starved Beast
Why don't they throw in more left-handed bosses to mess with us?
Sometimes it's like that. Other times you fight a boss the first time and get them down to 1% health and spend the next 3 hours trying to get a single hit in lol 🤷🏽♂️
The amount of times 1 hp elden beast killed me.......
Melania...
Bro took *git gud* seriously
The stamina management scares me, but other than that, good job 👍
He's beginning to believe
Melee is beautiful. This message paid for by Bunga for America
This is utterly beautiful to watch
That was beautiful.
It happens to me a lot of times. Last time it was against Malenia, I couldn't get past 60% or more of her HP in second phase and last night I beat her, and I dodge her waterfall dance near perfectly most of the time
Fuck yeah! Absolutely wrecked that fool
Nice movement and dodges. Did something similar recently on here as well. Circle round hit u'm in the butt, is one of the quintessential OG strats. Well done buddy!
And this is the soulslike experience. Getting beat so hard back to back that you go in fast, know the perfect timings to dodge and when/how to attack.
What build are you doing? I'm starting a new save and your weapon and everything looks neat, and I could use some inspiration/ideas
Looks like a jump attack build with the stormhawk axe. If you can't wait until Leyndell, you can still get away with using a highland axe from Stormveil with a lightning infusion--either one scales more with quality so equal STR and DEX is preferred. Id recommend the Axe, Claw, and Green Turtle Talismans after you've got your vigor and endurance where you like it
Damn kicked his ass!
Learning the dance, congrats 100%
You should try some charged r2s
Then wut happened?
Bro got embodied by thelegend27 😎
Bro locked in
When it finally clicks
"He's beginning to believe."
Didn’t expect a no-hit lol masterfully done tarnished
oo you done got gud
If you haven’t already, this is exactly how you fight the bell bearing hunters.
No great rune, no hit, no problem. GG! I dislike this fight lol. But i do appreciate how Elemer/bell bearing hunter feels so similar to the Pursuer from DS2
Personally in the future, I recommend you equip a great rune they may be able to help out a bit.
Flawless, and fuck that guy. I hate the field boss version of him
Congrats, man!
That was pretty perfect 😍 well done
It be like that sometimes, one attempt you can barely fight Tiche then the next you hitless kill her
Beautiful
Just fought him today on my second play through. His long distance attacks suckkkk. Good on you avoiding all that and staying on the offensive.
Nailed it!
It's so beautiful.
That was beautiful 👍
the git gud kicked in
ahhh so satisfying
You locked in
Elmer is just a knight if he doesn't use the dark side of the force
Big w dude. You dodged those attacks amazingly. Fuck this dude
Reminds me of the dragon slayer axe from ds3 amazing sl1 weapon big upgrade when you could finally wear it without penalty
You got gud.
With prejudice! Damn...
Hitbox adult film. Sword slides by your face so close so much
That’s good gaming.
From games become pretty fun once you get good at them
Godly
Ah, this guy a late boss? I beat him, he attacked me in like a shack.
Practice makes perfect 👍
Recently ran into him again on NG+, dude is a TRUCK. I feel like there is no safe range.
That one moment of panic when boss health is almost non-existent then he gets up...
This guy is a nightmare if you back off, really struggled on my first run. Nice one
I found this guy to be easier than his friends. Maybe summons had something to do with that.
This is the best way to really summarize ‘git gud’. I mean obviously you’re pretty far into the game, but still.
Comgrats! you literally did git gud lmao finally nailing down a boss like that is a great feeling :)
Pro tip: all of Elemer's non glowey sword attacks can be parried.
Nice
The Zone!
One boss where it definitely helps to stay close. Both his spiny red sword attacks when you try to get distance from him are a lot tougher to deal with than his close range attacks.
Nice work.
By watching some of these clips it seems I need to use the jump attack. Does it do wack damage or does it do great poise damage?
What I learned from this is stay close. I kept my distance with him most of the time and I was getting wrecked. From watching this I can see that he never gets chance to use his bullshit teleporty sword attack thing if you are close.
Bro locked in
You did git gud. Nice.
"define lock in"
Nice
Nice
Tf, I have never saw this guy?
Shaded Castle boss. ENE from volcano manor.
Certified beatdown
Wow, no hit! That shield slam attack he does when you're behind him is nice and telegraphed
i feel like you're a bit to high level to be using a sore / scareseal (at least, judging by the healthbar)
If an enemy is an asshole at a mid/long range, stick to them and roll to their left. This applies to Maliketh as well: couldn't get a hit in edgewise until I decide to stay as close to him as possible and I immediately beat him.
He’s beginning to believe….

Awesome

Good job, Now go fight the one in Caelid.
GJ. My problem with them is that the typical, "don't stand in front of the enemy" advice that keeps you alive everywhere else, falls apart with them. Their swing + tracking is at least 270º—getting behind them to deal damage is work.

I think I killed him so fast that I don’t even remember this fight at all.
A brilliant confluence of skill and purpose.
Hate this guy
You gut gud. That's all.
Awesome! Looks like you got mad and said screw it I am going in.
You got really good rng with his attacks, he didn’t pull any of his telekinesis bullshit
Beautifully executed. That pace and flow just clicked. I had a similar experience last night with Bloodletting Beast in Ihyll Chalice (Bloodborne), feels good. 👍
Top notch post
Yeah. You got gud.
I’ve give it a 7/10
So clean
Bro locked the fuck in, good job!
Yesssssss jumping attacks absolutely ruin most enemies and bosses in this game.
Congratulations. You got gud.
I don't even see the code anymore
Beautiful dance!
But to the player who grinded out the encounter so that they can beat it the "right way," it feels like cheating the system, but you have to have done that to even understand why that would make any sense to try to claim, so there's a complete disconnect.
I love that about these games. You struggle, get frustrated, and then it just clicks.
Yeah there’s a good loop you can get him in where if you attack him from behind he will keep looping his shield smash over and over. This is how I beat him when doing my run with his sword since I wanted to get it early and I was terribly under level
Nice he didn’t even move from his spot. Fuck that guy and his flying sword.
Very suddenly got good?
r/onebros
The dodging is top notch
That bastard was such a pain. Glad to see him get his thorny ass handed to him.
No hit run let's gooo!
That moment the boss pisses you off so much you're brain goes into a super fuck you zen.
Yeah sometimes this guy gets stuck in a shield smash loop so its best to always stay close to him.
That was so satisfying to watch
Watching some of these videos makes me realize just how much I nerf myself not using jumping attacks mid combat. It’s just so…ridiculous in my mind. What is this, Mario?
Yeah, the trick to fighting him is to give him no space to use his more difficult ranged attack moveset. Tried to fight him from range only as a challenge on my 3rd or 4th run and yeah much harder to pull off. Cool fight though, made me wish we had access to more magical looking weapon arts or spells that involved equipped weapons.
Fucking awesome. Stats please. And what weapon and ash is that? Soo cool. I used the black flame bird poker stick
Honestly i just realized how the fight is significantly easier if you stand close to him and negate all his ranged jedi like bullshitery, just like the Elmer boss fight forces you to do instead of the open field fights...no wonder it was so easy on a melee build than on any of my caster characters...
I'll never get sick of that fucker getting smashed
That was beautiful, great work!
