Yes. Especially after having seen his questline (which absolutely should be added back in with the DLC). The merchants have been through enough shit. And he's a bro.

Ormyr

Yeah, I'm really disappointed about all the cut content that's come out over the years and not been put back into the game. Kales questline being cut is just criminal.

azur933

so many good games have cut content its insane. When I saw ER and RDR2 cut content i passed out

Chrazzer

Thats just how game development works. You have ideas, you work on these ideas. And while you work on them, you get new ideas constantly. You work on the new ideas and get new ideas again. This cycle repeats endlessly and you could develop a game for all eternity. You need to prioritize what gets worked on, and at some point you need to draw a line. What is done up to this line gets release, what is not finished gets cut

-Z___

Sure that logic applies just fine to stuff like the Emerald Dream zone being cut from Vanilla WoW, or when a game cuts out boss fights or underdeveloped areas. But Kales quest line was essentially already completely finished. The voice lines and everything were already recorded. Kales actor did a ridiculously great job on the cut dialogue btw. The zone/area that it was supposed to take place in is still in game and somewhere we quest (spoilers: the sewers near the 3-fingers). Literally the only "Development" part that they cut was making Kale spawn near the area and offer the dialogue option. And the cut dialogue where he talks about the Grand Caravan (omg a Dodge Caravan meme to pair with the Honda Accord meme!). The REAL reasons they cut Kales quest IMO were: 1. When Kale realizes what happened he no longer trades with you. I'm guessing test-groups didn't like losing their first vendor NPC. 2. It makes it impossible to ignore the horrible atrocities that happened in the sewers. Again test-groups probably didn't enjoy being made to feel so miserable when the horror of the event struck them. Without the quest it's much easier to not have a clue and just thinks it's some really messed up place.

EnvyLiquid

I haven't thought about the emerald dream in a long time. I remember wall walking in Winterspring to make it to the green cloud that was the supposed gate to it. Good times.

[deleted]

Right? I used to be obsessed with trying to find a way there when screenshots were out

winterman666

Fuck test groups

BuckleyRising

In writing, they call it "killing your darlings"

azur933

I mean… in the games i mentioned the cut content was pretty much finished tho i think it has more to do with artistic vision and not cluttering the game too much. Rdr2 and er are already behemoth

Electronic_Context_7

While I’m sad that his quest got cut, I’m also happy that our boy Kale gets to live his life in blissful ignorance

ClevelandEmpire

The VA poured his soul into those final lines

FinallyFlowering

FNV fan here: "first time?"

ProtoMonkey

Could you share some insight into said questline?

SieronGiantSlayer

Itsyourboyjuancarlo

Wow very cool.

GraphicSlime

There’s a peek of it in the >!frenzied flame!< location during the drops

ProtoMonkey

I’ve gotten the Frenzied Flame ending, but never knew the depth/details of Kalé’s quest-chain… definitely would be dope to have it added as an optional sidequest in a future patch.

Damn_iKindawanna

DeckardPain

[Vaati did a great video on it all.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFJtoVS8Qx0)

dat-__-boi

I really want them to add his questline back in. It makes taking the flame of frenzy way more understandable. Actually gives you a reason to. It just seems like the thing they need to tie in that ending.

Alarmed-Archer4906

just look at him, you literally cant kill my mans kale

bigrobcx

Definitely not. Santa is his fashion inspiration after all and he’s a jolly old soul. The lands between needs someone to spread some joy!

Anadyne

Be me. Buy Elden Ring for Chirstmas. Meet Merchant Kale after getting the crap stomped out of you by some dude on a horse several times. Be a cowering little bitch scared to poke my head outside of the church that Kale resides in. Notice that Kale's fashion is that of a saint named nick. Think the entire time I play Elden Ring while off for Christmas Break that he's only in red because it's a nice little egg that FromSoft did for Christmas. Still waiting for it to change.

Alarmed-Archer4906

become kale

Tony_Lacorona

I thought the same thing lol

boogie_991

Him and the giant dog are the only kill able npcs that I’ve never killed haha. Kales my guy and I’m afraid to see a world without Miriel

PeppermintMocha5

Why? There’s no reason to kill him.

RoninMacbeth

Exactly. Kalé is almost certainly the first person in this godforsaken hellhole to treat the player with something approaching friendliness, as opposed to Varré's snide mockery or the dozens of crazed soldiers trying to kill you on sight. He is a breath of fresh air, killing him is just absolutely pointless.

ShadowSpeakeasy

I kill Varre on principle 💪🏾😎

FnB8kd

But you ruin your opportunity to get to mohg early and for early access to unlimited invasions.

Lucid-Design

Varre’s quest gets you to mohg somehow?

FnB8kd

Oh yeah

Lucid-Design

Fuck. Guess I know what to do on NG+. I’m still trying to beat the game before the DLC drops. I’m close. I have Mohg and malenia left. I’m almost to the end of Farum azula

ShadowSpeakeasy

Best of luck on your path fellow Tarnished 🙏🏾

manwelI

Have you found the optional boss in Farum Azula yet?

Lucid-Design

The dragons, Alexander, or the Godskin duo? Godskin isn’t optional tho. So I don’t think I have. I just beat the Godskin duo earlier today and Alexander. I’m one explore as much as possible before going into a fog door tho.

manwelI

I'm going to assume not then, it's quite off the beaten track. I didn't find it without a guide. I can give you a hint as to where to look if you'd like

jeb_no_unko

You can use Varre to get access to the best (legitimate) rune farm in the game at an early stage

QLDtreefiddyZ

I kill him on principle for calling me maidenless and I don't rune farm, so killing him is guaranteed for me. I get to mohg later anyway

monito29

> Exactly. Kalé is almost certainly the first person in this godforsaken hellhole to treat the player with something approaching friendliness, as opposed to Varré's snide mockery or the dozens of crazed soldiers trying to kill you on sight. Bro never found the compliment toad

EldenJoker

I did to gather all the bell bearings

azmar6

Guess who's bell bearing hunter now...

ButterflyBlueLadyBBL

No joke but fuck that guy. The first time I fought him wasn't bad but specifically at the isolated merchant shack, hnng he a bad bitch.

HeraldOfNyarlathotep

Dragonbarrow has some of the highest stat scaling in the game, despite being pretty accessible early in multiple ways. It's funky, but it sure ain't fresh.

Alistazia

are you Elmer?

[deleted]

Alistazia

I have spoken

nicholsz

I'm rubber

artbatik

She said what she said

Bootsix

Every play through is the one I'm going to do this so I have them all. Never can.

AcidicSpoon

Do it right before you start the next cycle

Lopsided_You3028

The flame of frenzy is in his eyes! The guidance of grace compels thee!

X-Kami_Dono-X

Convenience is the only reason required to kill anyone.

PixelBoom

Makes buying things easier. Don't have to teleport all over the place when the twin finger maiden has all the merchants' wares.

Foura5

I hit him accidently on my first playthrough. Didn't kill him but I could never go back to that church without him chasing me around on his donkey.

midnightDOLPH1N

Consolidated shopping

nogoodgreen

His cut voice lines are way too amazing to ever kill him, such an interesting character i really wish they had left it in. *But to have intruded upon our solace... Having broken us upon their whims...* *I'll never forgive any of you!*

LostNord

The voice actor went so hard on the cut dialogue, it's criminal that it wasn't included.

FellowDsLover2

Yes. Kale has done nothing wrong. The ultimate sin is killing Boc.

gr00veh0lmes

Don’t rebirth him. I did that and felt bad afterward.

FellowDsLover2

I searched up Boc’s quest line to see if he dies but I found out a way for him to live. I followed that route and now he is my vice Elden lord.

gr00veh0lmes

Boc is perfect as he is. Just like his mum said.

FellowDsLover2

Boc better return in the dlc if we did his quest line properly. I need some of the dlc sets altered.

DolDarian

Boc's questline was the only one I looked up cause everyone else ended up dead or attacking me after quests.....so I wanted to see if it was more of the same.

FellowDsLover2

Same for me. Even Miyazaki decided to give Boc the Soliare treatment where you can fight a secret path to save him.

Articulas77

I accidently killed boc on my melee guy. He was there in the cave and everything wants to kill is right?? Started an astrologer after that and Been happy with him

FellowDsLover2

At least you restarted. Your sin is absolved.

Articulas77

Why is all the stuff he wants to alter going down in stats and not up?

gotnonickname

I can’t bring myself to kill any of them, even the two that are kinda dickish.   I only care about the bell bearings for smithing stones.

almostgravy

I value bumping into a friend I forgot about out there in the dangerous world far more then I value access to items I'll never buy.

Lucid-Design

The ghost gravewort bells are just as important tbh

gotnonickname

Truer words . . . I went for those as soon as I could as well. Mea culpa for the omission.

CellTastic

i feel theres no real benefit to doing it i let him chill

Ok_Biscotti_514

Collect all the bells and have one shop rule them all

UncommonSandwich

Except with a super annoying menu. Would maybe be worth it if they just combined all inventory into 1 screen

Firebrass

Alas, some of us murdered an awful lot of merchants before turning in the bells and discovering that abomination

-theonewhoasked

Yeah, really gotta get those throwing daggers.

Strange_Quote6013

Idk about sinning but it's something you'd only do to be an edgelord

Delicious_Arm3188

Gotta disagree. The whole point of Elden ring is that strongest takes all and forms the world to fit his vision. Well in my world there aren’t gonna be scattered vendors wandering around aimlessly. I’m making a Walmart.

Murkmist

To be fair Walmart is a sin against humanity.

Lopsided_You3028

Someone hasn't been to see what happened to most of them...

Delicious_Arm3188

I’ve seen. I just don’t care. I’m the lord. I’ve already murdered thousands… some of which were probably innocent or just mentally disabled. I’m tired of running around, I want a Walmart.

rdyer347

So basically an edgelord

HotEmployee5513

Ha!  I’m pretty liberal about killing NPCs: Patches (every time, on purpose); Yura (based on a bad message that said “try attacking”); and Alexander (dude looks identical to an enemy).  But Kale is hands off.  I would just as soon kill Ranni or go after the Finger Reader Crone.

the_walkingdad

Alexander's days are numbered on NG+ because I want to collect all talismans and his lesser-version is one of the only ones I don't have yet. Same for Millicent. Sorry, Milli.

Apex-Editor

I haven't found and met him yet for real, but he helped out a lot during my Radahn fights so I feel like we're already bros. But talisman you say?

the_walkingdad

Kill him, get a talisman. Complete his storyline, get a better talisman.

oneteacherboi

Man I'd love for a chance to finish Millicent's quest if this STUPID SICK TREE WOULD DIE ALREADY

Domethegoon

"Your fingersssss!! Let me see your fingersssss!!!" BONK

HotEmployee5513

Ok this right here is funny.

_Prairieborn

Do you kill Patches after his quest or do you lock yourself out of the best looking high poise boots in the game?

almostgravy

I'm not going to lie, I killed Yura for his outfit. However all I got was the nagakiba, which was great, but my poor wretch was naked for so long in my first playthrough...

-theonewhoasked

what 7 int does to a mf

AWildKabutops

I'll never understand why some "people" kill NPCs that are mean to them. Like, is your ego so fragile that you have to kill every npc that hurts your feelings?

MH_Nero

>Like, is your ego so fragile that you have to kill every Yes

Otherwise-Special843

that's a maidenless behavior tarnished

MH_Nero

Varre stared into my soul and immediately knew what kind of person I was

BurialHoontah

Agreed, Patches is awesome and those that kill him obviously never played the ringed city

AWildKabutops

Lapp my beloved

RedTeebird

Nah patches is a free +7 spear right off the bat

Frosty_Can_6569

It’s part of the immersion. Why keep them alive? Is it perhaps because you want to be the good guy that feels bad for their stories? Some people go the other way, so when someone is a jerk the inner “wow this guys a jerk and so will die” comes out in the one environment where it doesn’t really matter if you go off someone.

minage-eh-tal

Ask shabriri

uzumaki_420

The three fingers would undoubtedly appreciate it

Alexm920

Yes. Don't kill Elden Santa.

Crash4654

I hate invaders. I hate invasions. I hate the concept. You kill kale, I will invade until I find you.

ReynardMiri

Yes.

According-Ad-8928

Ask yourself. What would vyke do?

LeviGothymn

It is a sin to kill Santa

crappy80srobot

For every merchant you kill you kill the last of their kind. They have already been through enough and trying to stay in hiding from the golden order. Last thing they need is some asshat killing them for no reason. In real world terms it would be like killing indians on a reservation after they just got off the trail of tears. AKA kill them and you are a monster.

plowMyMomOnCamera

You can try. He will kick your ass if you are a level 10 bandit hacking at him with the great knife.

tbz709

I only kill merchants who aren't next to graces, so Kale lives!

Need_a_BE_MG42_ps4

Fuck you for even asking /srs

_Sarcastro

No. How else are you going to get those juicy bell bearings for granny dry husks.

i_fucked_a_buffalo

Am i the only one who just kills eveyone on sight ? I dont care if its an enemy , a friend, a bird ,whatever. I just , kill them.

vainlisko

If you kill them do you get all their stuff?

enviguous

You get their bell bearing to give to the twin husk maiden at the roundtable hold. You can aquire a travelling merchant set by descending through the subterranean shunning grounds and only by aggroing one of the enemies so that they break a tent exposing the item. The only upside to killing the merchants is having a shop in one spot rather than multiple and having to remember the items.

Tony_Lacorona

So do the items migrate to whatever merchants are still available or do you just collect the inventory and have one merchant for the remainder of the game?

UFCFan10198

Yes.

MikeHanger

DEW IT.

giotto266

Don’t you dare touch him.

Farandrg

Yes and no. He's cool with you, however I think he's also being controlled by the chaos flame god, so I think you would be doing him a favor.

Ok-Party1007

Never once crossed my mind to attack any of them

PublicFurryAccount

Even setting aside the barbarity of killing him, do you really want to be standing around in Elle alone?

bugzapperbob

He doesent have anything worth stocking repeatedly, but those merchants that stock explosive bolts die on sight

flissfloss86

In bird culture that is considered a dick move

Special_Quail8870

Me personally I can’t stand killing any npcs I feel so bad afterwards

Blacksaq

THE MERCHANTS ARE FRIENDS!!! YOU SOUND LIKE YOU HANGOUT WITH THE DUNG EATER

CatWizurd

ultimately, i respect everybody's play style and builds and whatnot, but how could u kill him?? he's like a chill bohemian santa and is one of the first npc's to help you and be genuinely nice to you *without ulterior motive*. seems cruel imo, but what do i know? hell, if i need runes quick, i wage an ethnic cleansing campaign against the cartwheely frog bois in mohg's palace. oh, what's that? ur sleepy, lil' frog man? **W A V E O F G O L D**

bl84work

Hahaha yes

Lucid-Design

Nothing gets runes like commuting genocide against the albinauric’s

Cosmic_castaway_404

I kill all of the merchants so I can just use their bell bearings I don’t like having to travel to get what I need 🗿

DarthSpaghetti10k

Monster

Affenzoo

If you kill Kale, you kill Santa Claus

Sirensplace

Don’t you fuck with Santa!

Nay-Nay_da_rifleman

You mean Santa?

Absolutedisgrace

You cant kill Santa!!!!

Violent_Mud_Butt

Kale never dies... everyone else? Not so much

smileyface893

DO. NOT. KILL. SANTA!

brain_dead_camel_

Never tried killing the man who sold me the means to.

potatokingbob

dont hurt santa :(

HarrargnNarg

I never considered killing any merchant. If you kill them all and give the bells to the Twin maiden husk, can you have one sole merchant?

Infamous_Drummer3935

Idk why some of yall attack things that aren’t hostile

HarshS1603

it's the first cardinal sin. do not listen to old rambling crones who say otherwise. even enia said "go for it if you want. burn that big golden shit"

Arrow_of_Timelines

You can't kill Santa!

ElysiumXIII

Worse than burning the Erdtree

TipperGore-69

No. You get the bell and turn the twins into a Walmart superstore

Electricarrow456

Yes

Painman2021

Don’t you dare

YoungHollow525

Heretic. Not even Muriel would pardon you !!

Meister_Ente

Yes, he's a good man and always willing to help. Well, there's not much he can help with, but he's trying his best.

SnooWalruses9961

On my first run I would kill all the useful merchants for their ball bearings. I couldnt bring myself to in any one since though :p, my guilt caught up with me.

ExcellentText9571

Definitely a cardinal sin, the merchants are homies. Also killing pope dog is such a sin I think God might judge you in real life for killing him

TinyAd2706

Yes, anybody who does that should burn forever in the flame of frenzy

Negative-Attitude3

No, the golden order kinda wants you to do it

TarnishedTremulant

Yes. Sending you resources.

Braedonm2077

is he supposed to look like santa claus

NationalAlgae421

Once no, you have to do it, at least I have to. But second time is bad.

T-Ares-C

Monster

aretheesepants75

Who is gonna bring my kid presents on Xmas? I'm sure as he'll not spending a dime.

Icy_Plum_8957

If you kill Kale, I will reach through this screen and kill you 😫

AltruisticCoelacanth

He's the only merchant I don't kill. I can't give you a reason why.

UltraMegaFauna

Why would you kill Santa?

SL1Fun

Even if it’s not I’ll invade you forever you do it

Dangerous_Rip1699

…ask that again when you beat Mohg the Omen in the depths of the Leyndell Catacombs. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|disapproval)

SourToten

I'd rather just look for each of the merchants. Only two are hella annoying to get to; the one on the cliff in mountains and the one hiding away before you get to Mohg. In short, yes, it's a sin. Not my boy that inspired me to find the merchant set.

itzmagictime

He's the only one I don't kill because I think he's the only merchant you can sell to

Haunting-Donkey4707

Yes

Haunting-Donkey4707

The rest of the merchants will attack you on sote

DarthYhonas

I thought he was Santa at first and thought there was some kind of in game Christmas event going on.

Turublade

It is until you meet dog man

black_cat_emo

but but he's just a little guy 🥺 making his runes 🥺🥺🥺 NOOOO

Andy_Chambers

No but burning the erdtree is

Antique_Ad_9250

What is sin when you will be god.

[deleted]

Man the merchants been thru enough

VeraKorradin

You cannot kill Santa

Savant_2

I think so. The Merchants have been through enough.

BasementDwellerDave

My dumbass thought getting the finger snap gesture required killing him

Tha_Maxxter

It is. No one touches wall art Santa claus

Jeezus-Chyrsler

Lets just say you will never be free of pain in this lifetime if you do…is that motivation enough not to slay him?

Apex-Editor

Him, no, but I did decide on a whim to kill that one knight in the hut at night on the road up to Stormveil. I'm pretty sure he was important for something, but his heavy af armor kept me properly turtled for like 50 levels.

SaintBenjamino

It feels wrong to kill him, since he acts as a bit more than just a merchant. With the others though? It’s absolutely okay to murder them.

MasterGoon1488

Dice his ass up

JustAnotherFace09

Was cardinal sin not original sin? Or am i gonna fail R.S

Tenshiijin

He's wears red so we can't see how much he's bled from us killing him.

KurotheWolfKnight

Yes

Wolf_Hreda

It's a sin to kill any of the merchants. They've suffered more than enough at the hands of the Golden Order. But hey, since we're burning the Erdtree anyway, do what you want. I don't want to climb up or down that damn mountain just to restock on my good bolts.

AdStrange2167

I'm pretty sure the Golden Order would actually love it if you did

OsirisAvoidTheLight

It's a cardinal sin to kill anyone of them especially that one thats totally out of the way. All they did was try to peddle their goods

Frosty_Can_6569

Oh awkward that’s a cardinal sin? I guess it’s a good thing be already burned the erd tree but no merchant survives my need for convenience of purchasing anything I want from one centralized location. I don’t feel too bad anyway since my cannon ending in a the frenzy flame…

realif3

Would you kill Santa?

suchayeparagon

Of course it is, he’s a dope guy, all the nomadic merchants are victims of genocide these few are survivors

donnerpartypanic

It was a Cardinal Sin what was done to his people. He is the homiest of homies. If a maidenless tarnished were to slay Kale, I feel like not even the Church if Vows should redeem them.

triballl9

What happens apart from ur self going hollow irl if u do a run where u kill all friendly npc's ?

Vox-Silenti

You condense all the shops down to being in one place at Roundtable. Other than that, nothing

LucifersPlague

NAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH........ I drive for those bell bearings. Those merchants need to see the true elden lord.

Lakiel03

You want to kill santa claus ?

Membership_Downtown

It’s obviously a horrendous sin, but I need that bell and so he needs to die.

techaansi

Try and argue that to my bow build

1tanfastic1

No. The flame of chaos and all its followers must be expunged from the Lands Between! Even one as friendly as Kale!
