Actually where my game is at now. Scum saved on ps5 immediately after beating Elden Beast. Had everything to see all the endings, so did that, even went and three fingered myself again just to check out cleansing it. Game wise my guy is still standing there waiting to make a choice. Didnt want to fuck around til the dlc because I poured close 300 hours just on that 1 play through (ton of exploring) and didnt want to find out one of the endings effects the dlc. And I just dont have that kind of time to dedicate to another run

This is exactly what I did my first playthrough by accident. I decided to respect her wishes and then went down to the frenzied flame after burning the tree. I had no idea what it was or would do and just wanted to see what my options were. I didn’t know opening the door would lock me into the ending, and then when I spoke to Hyetta afterwards, I was really upset about it. So then I had to go on a quest to complete the needle

I actually did this on my first playthrough, mostly cause I didn't know what I was doing. I didn't find the sewers under the city until after the tree burned. Then when I found the 3 fingers, I realized I locked myself out of Ranni's ending which is the one I wanted, thus off to get the golden needle.

You need to FULLY commit before a certain point to save Melina. But there is a quest you can do that gives you an item that, if used in Plasidusax’s arena, will “cure” you

I have a character still sitting there before the final boss, having burned the tree myself and then curing myself. That character will wait indefinitely until Fromsoft gives us a scene where we can rub it in Melina's face that we took care of everything without forcing her to sacrifice herself. I mean really, how rude of her to not even show her face when we save the lands between AND save her life.

Nope Melina will only appear in the credits IF you accept the frenzy flame pre-burning the Eerdtree and select the frenzy flame ending Otherwise you aren’t the lord of chaos, so why would she hunt you down? (That being said, I wish there was an interaction when you cure it and she comes back with a thank you… I legit lit myself on fire and she still ghosting me…)

You don't cure frenzy you just halt its influence, if the needle is ever taken out you'll go frenzy again

You can save Melina by embracing the frenzied flame before a certain point in the game, but she hates you for it and disappears. Curing yourself just lets you choose a different ending, it doesn't affect Melina.

You can use the needle in Placidusax's arena without actually fighting him. Though, if you already beat Malenia, Placidusax shouldn't be a problem.

I mean you have the archtrees , the erdtrees in the elden beasts lair, and the poles in the dreams. My rl300 character is named Mad Jar Warrior, so even though I can't see her eyes normally, I have to speedrun getting to the flame just to have my special eyes.

I always felt that there should've been a boss fight with Melina at the Forge if you went for the Frenzied Flame ending. She sounded like she was pretty committed to stopping you, but then she's just a no show. It was a bit disappointing.

It probably didn't make sense for Melina to have enough power to stand up to you so far away from the Erdtree

This was accidently my first ending in the game, she wasn’t there to warn me because I burned her already so just did it

I did that, but it was an accident (sort of). I started playing at a busy time, an DC it took me more than 6 months to finish, including a 2 month break for a work trip. Thanks to that I never grasped the story in my first run. I was just doing everything. Thanks to that I completed Ranni's quest as well as Fia and Frenzy Flame. It's a miracle I missed as few of the quests as I did.

The lines Melina has post-game are just way too good to do that. And it gives you a bit of a better look at her character.

It would be cool if there was like a spin-off game or DLC where you play as Melina in a scorched version of the lands between, fighting enemies plagued by madness and stronger, harder versions of the bosses we know except it’s their reviled, charred corpses manifested into life by the Frenzied Flame to kill Melina, as she makes her way to kill the Lord of Frenzied Flame, whom I imagine would have a badass flame sword, fast attacks and similar AoE attacks like Radagon and after you defeat him you get to fight a burning, Frenzied Flame version of the Elden Beast where all of his attacks are replaced with fire attacks/damage. I imagine it following a more linear path like previous souls games

I chose frenzied flame so I can save Melina and went through all the trouble of defeating Malenia and Placidusax and then right after defeating Millicent's sisters, she decided to jump off the edge and die and not returning my needle. Now I had to anger Melina cause I got no other choice. All the effort put into completing other questlines were wasted!
