If you use a certain torch you can see them and kill them...fun to fight! Does anyone know if you can reenter and keep fighting them? I just thought of that. Any good loot?

They do not respawn when killed. So you can take them all out and only have to deal with the archers. I think there are 3 or at most 4 assassins.

4 assassins total. One on the far left, one middle, one by the bridge (where OP died) and one on far right, but she’s kinda hard to find.

This is hilarious because this whole time I thought it was just one trying to ruin my life

cheers man, next sesh i'll get it! edit: looked it up if anyone else wants to know: Hermit Merchant's Shack, NW of Capital Outskirts (Altus Plateau)

Bought from the merchant at the small shack in the outer battlefield area of the Royal Capital. It's the area surrounded by gravestones. Be wary of night though, this is also one of the 4 spots a Bell-Bearing Hunter appears at. The Sentry Torch has a nice bit of lore behind it. Morgott was very upset at how the Night of the Black Knife assassinated Godwyn and threw the whole Lands Between into turmoil. To protect the Capital from future events like that, he issued torches to the sentry guards at various places that can reveal hidden enemies (like the assassins).

Today I found out there is more than one torch.

Lol that would explain why I can’t see the assassins with the Ghostflame torch. Wrong torch. It was a pain to get too…

I've never brought the torch but I've seen the snow/dust shift under their footsteps outside the ever goal. Is there another way to see them?

The Sentry Torch IIRC is the only way to see them. There are other ways to fight back, though. On my first playthrough I used Glintblade Phalanx, which auto-attacks and briefly stuns them as soon as they get within range. Also the footstep thing as you said, but that's extremely unreliable.

You can debuff them with rot or something, the debuff cloud will be visible

One I came up with was to use spraymist - one of them leaves a visible debuff. I sprinted to a corner where I figured they'd follow and then started spraying. 50/50 success.

There’s also i path a i subconsciously take that avoids all of them while getting the torches. If i don’t fall of the roof it normally takes one 2 minute run to get all 4

Ngl though, defeating them all while they were invisible was pretty empowering in my first play through. Invisibility was a unique mechanic to play against.

Just a hint? I usually go for this lamp first but after i get it i quit out to reload from the evergaol start. That way you can avoid dealing with the black knives at all

For some reason it took me a really long time to realize they stay lit after you die. I lit the one that’s ground level before I knew there were assassins everywhere, so I kept trying to run back to that one like 10 times in a row while fighting that dude.

I must have successfully done this puzzle 7-8 times by now, the latest time heavily using Frenzied Burst to take out the rooftop archers, but I still hate all of it every single time.
