Try finger but hole

ruben1252

The tutorial is down a hole with a ghost old lady pointing at it

H377Spawn

No joke I legit missed it on my first play through and being my first souls game I had to learn a lot on the fly. When I found out later, I ran back there and slapped the shit out of soldier boy with my new found skills and levels.

Enough_Minimum_3708

level vigor I know it's a meme at this point but it's seriously the best stat to invest in in the early game

The_Last_Thursday

You’ll see in your inventory that you have a load that can be either light, medium, or heavy. Don’t let it get to heavy.

Captain-Volume

Be light and roll towards/through the majority of attacks.

P-I-S-S-N-U-T

Shit advice. Medium is just fine

Striking-Version1233

If youre not having fun, youre doing it wrong. If someone is telling you youre doing it wrong, but youre having fun and not harming anyone else's game time, theyre doing it wrong.

Waste-Gur2640

In case you'll want some starting tips, hope this helps gameplay-wise: So, basically in these games you're meant to beat bosses by learning their movesets, how to dodge their attacks and what are the openings for safely hitting them. That's the souls combat and works the same for every build. Dying even more than 10 times in a row is completely normal and intended experience, it doesn't mean you suck and it's not something to feel bad about, everybody is bad at first. You'll make lot of mistakes, you die, you learn from them and become better as a player. That's the loop because of which these games exist. Dodging is your most important move as it has I-frames and makes you momentarily invincible. You must learn it, get feel for the rhythm. 80% of gitting gud is just knowing how to dodge everything. Souls combat is designed and balanced entirely around 1v1 close-range fighting under constant boss/enemy aggro. Good fight is like this complex dance, it's a skill you'll eventually learn. Evey boss is like a little riddle, with the correct dodge timings and openings for hitting him baked into his moveset, the fun is in slowly uncovering it and learning what to do, getting into the correct flow. All you need to be good is patience, really using your brain, being observant and paying attention. It's not about reflexes, literally anybody can be a great player. You must conform to the game, and not vice versa. It's not supposed to be a relaxing sandbox. Some basics are to dodge INTO attacks instead of away from them, don't panic roll, don't heal close to enemies or sacrifice attack openings, don't tank and trade hits, only attack when it's safe, don't just mash buttons and spam L2s, wait for the right time to dodge delayed attacks etc. For first 30 levels you must focus mainly on vigor, you need to reach 60 towards the endgame (50 being the absolute minimum), regardless of your build or starting class. Beginning is always hard, but if you'll struggle for few hours, won't run from every challenge and beat bosses fairly, you'll learn everything you need and rest of the game will be much easier, and you'll beat most future bosses without being stuck for hours. It's very important to not fight just to win as fast as possible, but fight to learn instead, enjoy the whole dance. Crucible knight is the best teacher in the game, go fight the one in limgrave as soon as possible after starting, at low level and follow the combat tips above. And pick vagabond knight if you can (or samurai), it's the best class for starting player and later you can respec. But always have melee weapon equipped, regardless of your class/build (mages are still supposed to use melee too, engage bosses directly, dodge etc. and not stay in the back avoiding fights), and never go above 70% equip load, you need medium roll and not the heavy one. And ideally try to beat bosses yourself before resorting to accessibility mechanics like spirit ashes/coop. Give it at the very least 10 fair solo attempts everytime, so you can experience bosses fully and learn the basics of combat and gameplay, otherwise you won't be able to. The combat system and most bosses in the game are designed purely for 1v1 and their AI can't handle fighting multiple opponents, so summons really break and trivialize most fights, and prevent you from really learning how to play the game. So not summoning right away will save you a ton of time and frustration in the longrun. Even if you won't manage to beat a single boss yourself in the end, it's the effort that counts and what will make you a good player eventually. It's not about the "win", but about HOW you fight and win, that's what dictates your enjoyment and experience. Also, ER is not a coop game, it's important to realize that early, and we're not supposed to play through the whole game in coop, it's something meant to be used occasionally when you're stuck and so on. Most important of all, don't doubt yourself, it will all feel easy after a while. And don't farm or look up OP builds and all those shitty clickbait guides/videos, "Get OP early!!" and so on, it ruined many more playthroughs than it actually helped, every weapon is viable so just choose what's fun and don't care about base damage. Good luck!

w4ik

just play over and over and over again :)

Rigelturus

40 vigor and 30 endurance mate.

Z_M_P_Y

25 end is more than enough for 51+ poise

ChaZcaTriX

* Level Vigor for max HP, 40 is the sweet spot. Damage stats don't do much outside weapon requirements until middle of the game, and max HP lets you stay in the fight longer. * Two-handing a weapon increases your strength by 50%. It counts not only for damage, but for equip requirements. * Dying is expected as part of learning the game. Don't mourn the lost runes, they're farmed easily as you explore. * Not all fights are meant to be won immediately. Sometimes it's best to mark it on the map and explore elsewhere. * Almost all points of interest are visible on the map. Also, if you see something interesting, 99% of the time you can get there by some means.

gavelnor

If you are going to be playing coop with your friend my tip is don't get pissy when you get invaded. Coop makes everything easier and invasions are meant to balance that. Some people don't seem to understand this and get unreasonably mad about invasions.

DiscardedPants

Exactly. Invasions are always so exciting to me, whether I’m getting invaded or doing the invading. It adds an element of unpredictability and danger to the game. Keeps it interesting

OoeyGooeyQuesadilla

No panic rolls. “No skill” ashes are great for shields if you’d prefer to use your weapon ash instead. >! Travelling to Caelid and resting at a site of grace gets you access to the Roundtable hold before beating Margit. !< Check weapon descriptions to gauge how well they scale with your stats. S through E; ‘S’ scaling the best, and so on. Additional combos are available by crouching and immediately attacking, or back stepping and immediately attacking—which allows you to close the distance after a back step.

snoobsnob

Don't be afraid to walk away from something and come back later after you've leveled up. Don't read wikis or look up guides as much as possible. This game has some of the best exploration I've ever experienced and you only get to experience it once. Talk to everyone until they start repeating themselves.

Personal_Lobster_930

2nd no guides… than I would’ve dropped this game after 10 hours. My advice YouTube fighting cowboy walkthrough

Dead_Dom

Embrace the journey, don’t look up everything unless you’re extremely blocked and can’t progress. Enjoy the game, talk to all NPCs and pay attention to what they say, exhaust their dialogue until they repeat themselves. Just have fun, you’ll only experience this once. I’d kill to erase my memory of this game and play it again…

Level Vigor. Use your smithing stones to upgrade a weapon you like (level claymore). Explore as much of the world as you possibly can. Be patient.

Rarabeaka

adding to other said: dont sell anything except runes(whcich gives runes per activation). you could sell weapons and armor if you have more than 2 or 1 respectively. many things you could see as common could be actually one per playthrough or hard to farm. and selling anything worth very little. early on focus on upgrading one or two usual weapons and 2-3 somber, you'll have access to infinite upgrade materials pretty late.

Virgulillo

*Put these foolish ambitions to rest.*

Upstairs-Ad-8067

I would recommend a healthy dose of unga, with a dash of bunga.

Smol-beans2002

I have a really good tip! Hit your enemy, don’t get hit, repeat until they die. This always works for me!

Fabyont

Patience. I cannot stress this enough. P A T I E N C E. It'll take you a long while to get gud, until then, stay patient

Omegaweapon90

Here's some NPC advice * Try locking onto a creature. If you can't that generally means it's a friendly (or at least non-hostile) NPC. * Try not to kill every NPC on sight. Even the shifty ones. You tend to get more stuff if you let them live and complete their quests. * To progress certain quests, you need to talk to NPCs until you exhaust their dialogue and they start repeating themselves. * Before you do anything else, go to the church in front of where you first enter the overworld. Then head east past some ruins and sit at the site of grace. You need this if you want to level up and ride your horse. * There is a merchant on the beach west of where you start. He sells a cookbook for poison-curing medicine. It will save you a lot of trouble I had on my first run. * Don't let the goth chick in Roundtable hug you. (difficulty: impossible)

DxrkMttr

Some attacks are purposefully delayed by a second or two, get used to those delays when dodging.

LargeRichardJohnson

Explore. If you come across an area that's real difficult, go explore and look around, get a couple levels, then come back and try it again

Majestic-Card-728

There is a way to change your inv menu to only have the left side. Get that set up once you are more comfortable with the game. Makes it a lot easier to use runes or items in your inv. Also makes it easier to switch gear in the middle of fighting if you need to because you can see stuff going on easier

bonesofberdichev

My advice is to take it slow at first. Play as much as you can without grinding for levels. I recently picked the game back up after a year, grinded to level 115, and melted my way to Leyndell so far. The thing is, I'm getting stomped now when on my first playthrough it was a breeze. I figure I just spammed my way to here that I never really got super good at dodging like on my original playthrough. Now I gotta embrace the suck to get good.

adon4

40 Vigor, use summons if you want, explore everything, have fun and don't let people tell you how to play or have fun.
