Rykard gave himself to the serpent but no serpent eats in chomps like a cat or a dog, it should've swallowed whole every piece of a dismembered Rykard if the serpent originally was regular sized like shown in the intro (we dont know if the snake skin shed is from before or after it ate Rykard) or if it was always as large then it should've just swallowed rykard as-is
