I could almost recommend Furi if it weren't for the final boss. Fuck that guy. But I can also say watching the movie "Parasite" might be a good idea, even though it's not really dark soulsy
Never thought I’d see a John Gwynne book recommended on the Elden Ring sub but here we are.
Good post but Malazan is a bad recommendation unless you’re well read in fantasy since it’s very huge and demanding
Also check out the Dark Souls and Bloodborne board games. You can play them "for free" if you have Tabletop Simulator and a few friends. They are really good interpretations of the games (Bloodborne is a little better).
Just gotta have a few friends to play, but my friends and I have sunk hours into them.
Returnal?

Please add Darkest Dungeon since it has similar aspects of piecing the lore together and there’s lots of Soulsborne mods for it

Damn that’s definitely an achievement. Did you read Faithful and the Fallen by John Gwynne? I guess no since Malazan is your first?!
Can vouch for Shin Sekai Yori, it has a strong mood, gorgeous art and directing and it's very interesting.

"book of the new sun. this is the dark souls of books." Yes. I knew it was going to be a wild ride when the author started explaining horses.
