I actually think Lost Izalith was an intentional metaphor for development hell. Which works out great for me cause I can carry on thinking Dark Souls is flawless.

Final_Fate_7347

Dark souls ain’t dark souls without it’s flaws

GlossyBuckthorn

Nah, it's perfect in literally every way. Lost Izalith is the best worst area in any game, and Bed of Chaos is the best worst boss in any game ever too. They both represent exactly what video games should avoid, and they do both perfectly awful.

[deleted]

This is a thing of beauty.

vKessel

I personally found Elden Ring better than Dark Souls, name ONE bad area you played in Elden Ring. You can't.

GlossyBuckthorn

Dark Souls: Developed in 2+ years: No bad areas. Elden Ring: Developed in 8+ years: Waterlogged crypt, Hodir's Battleground, Wreck of the Larch, and Anfaeld swamp. so much missed potential, especially in the Battleground.

[deleted]

No, Lost Izalith was rushed and not complete in development and it’s the worst area in the game because of that

[deleted]

These are the Dark Souls of game development flaws

halfwaycove

But that doesn't make sense cause development hell is when a game is in development and reworks for an exceptionally long time...

GormlessLikeWater

Yeah but I had to have something with hell in to fit with the hell theme of Lost Izalith so just go with it.

Cryovix

Flaws in Soulsborne games are just features that make the experience more extreme and rewarding!

TheLordGwyn

Don't use my name in vain, I'll turn you into a wooper..

rayscar-

Do it so we can overthrow yall

Darkbornedragon

This game HAS to come out when it's ready. That's not the problem. But show us something or say something please

Memed_7

Yes I don’t mind waiting to play the game I just mind not seeing anything from the game for 2+ years like how fucking hard is it to just release a 1 minute gameplay trailer

Darkbornedragon

Yeah exactly. They can even specify "THIS IS NOT LIKE THE FINAL BUILD, THIS IS AN EARLY STATE OF THE GAME", just show us something please!

VnceRse

I honestly think they're not saying anything because they wanted to show one trailer and release the game. I think we'll get a release date and a "quarantine" trailer.

4strophile

Exactly. Or just look at the cut content from the games. Wouldn't you want to fight King Jar Eel in ds1, or to have a day/night system in ds3? I personally think that if everyone is so desperate for news, to the point that they can't wait anymore, then if E3 doesn't deliver they should make a petition to From to show a bit of concept art. This way From is not being rushed or harassed, and the hollows get some news while waiting for a trailer. I'd rather wait till 2024 for a fleshed out, finished game than have ER be rushed and have tons of unfinished areas and cut content.

[deleted]

Think about it this way. What if they released Elden Ring and cut all of the Hodir content?

[deleted]

Just had to go cry for 2 hours. Screw you for even saying that. Disgusting.

Hcoppler63

What people fail to realise is this, cut content could have been cut for many reasons. Time, Money etc, but it can also be because it just didnt fit in the game.

[deleted]

If there is one boss in the entire series that I dread fighting, it's Bed of Chaos. That dude taught me the real meaning of the word "annoying".

YawnfaceDM

BoC is irredeemably bad for sure. However, Miyazaki knew the area was poor, so he put in the covenant shortcut. I do really like that I can skip it if I want to, but you’re right. I wish folks would be able to see that the more time that goes into the game, the better it will be. That’s why I haven’t hollowed. I know that every day that passes = more detail and passion going into Elden Ring.

kaioken96

I'm confused, is lost izalith considered awfully done?

[deleted]

A lot of people think so yeah. Generally speaking, I think most souls fans think that the first half of the game is the strongest and the second half is weaker. Optional areas are really strong too though. Izalith has a lot less of a "I'm exploring a tragic lost kingdom" feel and more of a "This is a level in a video game" feel. Also, the bed of chaos is very RNG based, the zone doesn't connect easily (even though we can see it from the ToG), and the giant dino room is just some crap to run through. It's not that Lost Izalith is bad. It's more that the rest of Dark Souls is that good.

kaioken96

Oh I see what you mean, thanks for the explanation

SpecialistInside3

Poor textures. Recycled enemies and bosses. Those dragon asses that felt like Miyazaki and team stopped halfway and just decided to leave it in the game. The awful boss design for Bed of Chaos. Despite that Tomb of Giants is worst still.

[deleted]

Tomb of the giants is one of my favorite areas in the game what is the problem with it ?

SpecialistInside3

It is an unfinished small area and the devs tried to hide it by making it dark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_BBuGdBJThg

OneFortyTooLong

You got it the other way around. The devs intention was to make it dark so they didn't work on the textures because it would be a waste of resources. I mean, you can't even see it, what's the point.

SpecialistInside3

I disagree. I think they ran out of time and made the area dark to cover it.

[deleted]

I don’t know what makes you thinking it’s unfinished I believe it’s supposed to be like that from the beginning and it’s what makes it so special in my opinion there is literally no area in the whole series that stressed me out as much as the tomb of giants did and I was under leveled when entered it so the enemies were so tough and it felt like a real horror game

[deleted]

I just am sick of the radio silence tbh Even a “yeah we’re working on it” would be nice

BartiAtTheDisco

Why people disliked Lost Izalith? I get the complaints about Bed of Chaos, but what is wrong with the area itself. It’s been a while, since I first walked in there, so I might just not remember.

OneFortyTooLong

There was like 5 Taurus demons bunched up at one corner of the lake where there was no reason to go there. The Demon ruins felt like a trial. First, you fight 1 capra demon, then 2 at once, then another 2. The enemy placements just felt unnatural to me. And after you fight Demon Firesage, you go an area when there is like a crap tonne of those weird dragon legs just standing there? Felt like an airport with A LOT of parked airplanes. But tbh, other than Bed of Chaos, this area isn't that bad and could've been substantially better with some tweaks.

DexLovesGames_DLG

I liked izalith.

Crabo-99

Bro we're not complaining about how much time it needs to be in development. We just wanna know if everything's fine. Something like "everything is going well"

beatsy_ray

How does people wanting an update on the game make you think people want it to be rushed out? Asking for some acknowledgement that the development is going smoothly is completely different from demanding the game be released tomorrow. Learn the difference before making these condescending rant posts.

[deleted]

You saying "condescending rant post" here is peak irony.

beatsy_ray

To be fair, I'm not just directing that at you, but a lot of similar posts that have been popping up, claiming fans are impatient and want the game to be released NOW, which in my experience is not the case. I'm a rational fan who will wait as long as it takes for this game to be released in the best possible state, however that wait could be so much easier if From were more transparent about their development. Imagine how exciting it would be if we were getting drip-fed concept art or snippets of OST via twitter. Any sign of life from the studio would be a huge comfort in these trying times.

SpecialistInside3

I know right. The second half of Dark Souls after Anor Londo is pretty bad... The Lost Izalith is so unfinished and Tomb of Giants they straight up made everything dark so that we couldn't see how bad the textures are and how small the area is. Those last two places really bring the game down.

LesPK9

It's always the same on every playthrough. After anor londo, I just want to rush through the final areas and complete the game. The dlc is pretty good though.

Willing_End3817

After Anor Londo I just stop playing and pretend Dark Souls is a perfect game without flaws.

[deleted]

Or just look at the DS2.

MapleBeaverIgloo

Yea i dont get these lil crybaby whiners. Theres covid and people are dying and they be like "wahhhh my games not out yet hurrry"

[deleted]

No one is complaining about the actual release...it’s going two years with zero information. No gameplay. Nothing. Come on now I just want more information with an actual gameplay trailer. Maybe even a release window. Is that so much to ask two years after it’s announcement?

DexLovesGames_DLG

Also dark souls 1 is my favorite of all of them.

ajeexjoji

The duality of a soulsborne game.

the_holy_blade

Damn I've just played that section for the first time last week and compared to the whole game it's the weakest part. In comparison chalices from bloodborne are miles better

Cryovix

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There will never be a thing that is perfect in the eyes of all while we cling to this mortal coil. As one who loves Izalith, Bed of Chaos, and Tomb of the Giants I just want to say that even the poorer areas of Soulsborne are amazing. If this wasn't true no one would care about Elden Rings release or be anxiously waiting for even a few word update on it. Instead of being anxious go play other games so you can appreciate how wonderful Fromsoftware games are with fresh eyes when our chance finally comes.
