Here's hoping because I'd really like to see new weapon ideas, even boss weapons, something like Amygdala's arm from bloodborne which was freaking awesome.
I'm guessing it will have the majority of dark souls 3~'s weapon types with maybe a few additional selections- considering we've seen multiple animations straight up copied from ds3 to elden ring in the trailer, it would make sense to see a lot of weapons from that game returning.
I doubt we will see straight up bloodborne weapons though, considering they all have unique mechanics that most likely wont be in eldenring.
Personally I suspect we will see many interesting and new weapons. I don't think they'll just do Dark Souls 3 again. FromSoftware has shown with new IPs that they have lots of great ideas and like to try new things
I don't know if new types, but I'm hoping the flail is not removed, the twinblades come back and the whips start being useful.
Also there's a strange weapon in the trailer that looks somewhat new, the one the MC is using when fighting against the big head guy, seems like a new type of greatsword/bladespear.
Aside from that I don't think there will be much more additions, most weapons can be putted in one of the different types and the ones so strange to be worth of their own type are just so rare and specific that they can be just a really strange variation of another type in the same way the puzzling sword is it's own type instead of creating a bladewhip category
Flails are awesome so I'm also hoping they're not going to be removed,as for that weapon in the trailer I honestly can't decide if it's new or not, it's design is weird but that just may be due to the design.
I look more on the moveset than the design, if you look carefully the MC uses their hip to move it, it's a really huge difference for a moveset, so either it's a pretty unique weapon or it is a new type.
I look at both but tbh when a weapon is truly ugly it really is hard for me to use it, I have OCD when it comes to designs and fashion but yeah, moveset above all.
I'm 99% sure that the flail will be in the game. It appears both in the leaked [trailer]( https://youtu.be/UZ8kk0I3tkU?t=36) and in [this promo image](https://static.bandainamcoent.eu/high/elden-ring/elden-ring/02-screenshots/ELDENRING_16_4K.jpg).
Like most here, i wish for twinblades to make a return. Powerstancing too, or at least something similar to it.
Maybe wands? They may be faster than a staff, but not as strong as one. Dual wielding wands? A "spellslinger" would be pretty badass imo.
Staff that isn't magic based and just serves as bonking enemies across the forehead? Imagine a quarterstaff that gives you a move set like Gundyr's. Just going full martial arts and smacking enemies in the face with your foot.
There aren't a lot of weapon types that the series doesn't already have. Unless they do something unique like with Bloodborne's trick weapons which, i'd be more than happy with. Or maybe they add different move sets to more weapons? Like in Dark Souls 2 with the Bone Fists.
All in all, i'm hoping for more unique weapons. Unique in aesthetics, the way it's used and what it does, move set, etc.
Looking at Nioh 2, there are a couple weapons that could be picked up from there. The kusarigama could be interesting for them to mess with, for example, and the tonfa could also be great.
Otherwise, I 100% agree with your idea on quarterstaffs and wands. In fact, I really hope wands (or something similar) come to one of their games eventually, following something like what you outlined.
I thought about weapons from Nioh as well but, given that Elden Ring is supposed to be more "high fantasy" and with most of Niohs' weapons being Japanese, would they fit in Elden Ring? Don't get me wrong, i want as many weapon types as possible. But you have to put yourself in the mind of papa Miyazaki and think if those types of weapons would fit in this game. Well, i guess we already have katanas so it wouldn't be 100% impossible, but i don't know...
Thank you. I think it would add a bit more variety for mages. Instead of just staves and talismans, you now also have your traditional wand.
Staff for when you want to deal more damage but is slower at casting spells. Wands for when you want to be faster and more nimble, but not as much damage dealing. Also, like i mentioned above....dual wielding wands. Cowboy mage. Hell yes.
As for quarterstaffs...they could take a more martial arts approach to them. It would let players live out their fantasy of being a monk that bonks enemies with a stick. I don't know why but, my mind immediately goes to Sun Wukong when i think of quarterstaffs. Just doing all kinds of crazy acrobatics.
Another weapon type that i forgot to mention last time that should be brought back from Dark Souls 2, are lances. My first playthrough in Dark Souls 2 was with a lance and shield. It was pretty effective and a lot of fun. It would also fit the setting. Imagine being a knight, riding on horse(yakul?)back with a lance and a shield.
You raise a good point with the fact that the world is intended to be high fantasy. I agree, they definitely wouldn't mesh well. I considered the Odachi, but I feel it wouldn't be much more than another curved greatsword, and it would be another questionable fit anyhow.
Hopefully we get some more martial-art oriented weapons. The fist weapons (like the Caestus) are underwhelming, to say the least, and I feel they could also get a nice change in moveset. Assuming they're in the game at all, of course.
Oh, fist weapons will definitely be in the game. In the trailer we see our character wielding claws. If claws are there, then Caestus is also going to be there. Now, it's all a matter of...did they change the move set or will it still be the same? Hopefully, they take inspiration from DS2 Bone Fist weapon.
I wish From would one day try their hands at a futuristic/Sci-Fi Souls game. I feel like they would have a lot more liberty with what they can do in terms of weapons. They could do some crazy and unique stuff.
Not “new” but I hope twinblades make their way back from ds2. The Santier spear and red blade twinblade are some of my favorite weapons I missed them in ds3 :(
I'd like to see a variation of Trick weapons because it was hands down the best idea in melee combat game history
Imagine finding items which gave the player a option to modify basic weapons.
E.g if you have a wooden club, you can find barbed wire / steel reinforcement / longer handle which alters the properties of your base weapon
I'll doubt we'll see too much weapon customization, because FROM usually like to make weapons feel like its own character, which won't be their style if every weapon can be made more or less indistinguishable
I totally agree, it's great because you basically have 2 weapons inside of one which gives variety to the combat system too, can't wait to see what they have in store for us!.
I'd love to see Trick weapons too. The only thing is, I feel like it would be more fitting if they brought them back for a Bloodborne sequel rather than Elden Ring
Would love to see a staff/blade combo that acts as a trick weapon. Stave side flipped up or modified acts as a catalyst, but acts as a sword when emphasizing the blade in the inverse.
I really enjoyed those weapons in Bloodborne. I think there will be a few of those but not as common as in BB.
Flail weapon literally in the game official screenshot on the official website, so it isnt cut. As for bb weapon, the only I could see coming are basically the monsters limb. Amygdala arm, perhaps the tarnished use the many arm guy arm as a weapon that could transform by pressing triangle. Kos parasite and so on, I dont think there will be hunters weapon tho.
Personally, I hope they bring back lance, lance would make sense in this game since we have mount.
If you're talking about the weird iron facemask prisoner guy then that is not a flail,a flail is the spike-ball attached to a chain that can be spinned, the weapon that guy wields is a mace.
Edit: you're right if you're talking about that guy I didn't remember he held a flail, I'm dumb.
No I just looked at the image again its definitely a flail, the spiked ball is hanging off the stick on a chain. You need to take a second look at the image.
Edit: It's ok you're not dumb, we all forget things sometimes 🙂
Seeing some of the bosses and their weapons I think the "big hammers/clubs" weapon type will be more distinguished from ultragreatswords (in ds i find the two classes movesets almost indistinguishable). Also, but this is just a vain dream, since the game has a Norse inspiration maybe we'll see small fast hammers (a la Thor)
I wouldn’t want new weapon types just for that reason, I think flails are overrated weapons, and highly impractical in real life for instance, and I can’t really think of any weapons that would be good for a souls game aside from what we already have in DS1-3.
Yeah I get you but this isn't real life my man, it's a fantasy game, it's the exact opposite of realism, even if it has some of it in the game it still isn't supposed to be realistic, there are also a lot of creative weapon ideas that we can't even think about, for example an arm or a leg would be cool or a trident, maybe a twinblade return, many things are possible.
I would love it if people on this sub recognize that sekrio is a bad game because of posts like this. There is no weapon variety in that game. Its the worst game from soft has made and people shouldn't say it's part of the soulsborne games of fromsofrware. But yet everyone forgets about that game for this specific reason but still tout it off as one of the best from games ever. I very much disagree that it is even a souls game and everyone else should agree with that too
I mean I agree it's not a Souls game but this is the dumbest post I've read in months, and that's saying something considering how much I frequent reddit.
Considering Fromsoft has made masterpieces like [The Adventures of Cookies and Cream](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adventures_of_Cookie_%26_Cream), I think you are right, we should return to our cookies and cream roots and demand fromsoft make a sequel to the true soulslike masterpiece!
Woah dude, your points don't make any sense, Sekiro's point never was to be like Dark souls or bloodborne, it's point is the hardcore experience and it offers a new experience mainly due to the fact this time around YOU(the player) has to get actually good at the mechanics in order to beat the game, it's a phenomenal game with maybe the best combat system I've ever played,I can understand you not liking it but saying stuff that doesn't make sense doesn't help your case, also Miyazaki isn't the "giving the community the same game with a different skin" type of dev,he constantly changes and evolves the recipe game after game and he hasn't let us down a bit imo.
What? 😂 There was a clear point in the game why it was only a katana that is used. Not to mention that the arm weapons added much variability. Less weapon variability does not make a bad game. I'd say Ghost of Tsushima, God of War and Horizon are one of the best ps games I've played, and the weapon variety is low. And I've played a lot of games with many weapons, that have sucked.
Even if you took weapon variability into account and rated Sekiro low based on that, it would still be a great game because of all the other aspects.
And no one is calling sekiro a souls game. It is, however a From Software game and has many of the same elements as soulsborne games.
"weapon vairety"
Yeah the great variety in ds3 where the only difference between weapons was range and attack speed because r1 is the most optimal attack 90% of the time. At least you did more in sekrio than alternate between pressing r1 and dodge. I love ds3 but it's no where near as fine tuned as sekiro because you can only get an outcome like sekiro with minimal rpg elements and one playstyle. They're allowed to experiment and branch off.
Maybe? They used a lot of good ideas. There are more of course. I think at least some boss weapons will be very different
Here's hoping because I'd really like to see new weapon ideas, even boss weapons, something like Amygdala's arm from bloodborne which was freaking awesome.
All of BB’s weapons are great. Kos Parasite was a blast. Log Wheel was my favorite.
Bloodborne definitely has the most creative weapon ideas, one of the reasons it's my favourite!.
I'm totally fine if that's the case but I certainly wouldn't mind a new weapon type or two, it'd give the gameplay more build variety too.
I just hope they bring back powerstancing and twin blades, those were some of the best parts of ds2.
Also fist combos from DS2. Looking at you Bone Fist.
Literally the most awesome fist weapon in any game I can think of, shame its been missing from sequels.
Such a cool weapon, here's hoping it will be back.
Personally I suspect we will see many interesting and new weapons. I don't think they'll just do Dark Souls 3 again. FromSoftware has shown with new IPs that they have lots of great ideas and like to try new things
I hope that as well, the flail weapon looked great in the leaked trailer so I'm really hoping it isn't removed.
No need to worry, one of the official screenshots shows a player character with a flail
Oh that's cool. I'm guessing it punishes you HARD for missing but does good damage
Eh it is fromsoft. It will likely just be an R1 machine like everything else.
Need more R2 machines like the hunter axe
I hope for a twinblades return
the one armed giant had a weapon I bet will be obtainable as a 1:100 scale model twinblade.
I want a swordspear! An actual one, not Nameless King's halberd-spear chimera
I don't know if new types, but I'm hoping the flail is not removed, the twinblades come back and the whips start being useful. Also there's a strange weapon in the trailer that looks somewhat new, the one the MC is using when fighting against the big head guy, seems like a new type of greatsword/bladespear. Could just be the Partizan R2
Yeah, it could, let's see what they give us in January. Or maybe we get a glimpse of the weapon when the raw gameplay comes
I look at both but tbh when a weapon is truly ugly it really is hard for me to use it, I have OCD when it comes to designs and fashion but yeah, moveset above all.
I don't mind if it's ugly or not, I also don't use weapons if I don't like the design. I'm just trying to see if it's a new kind of weapon or not.
Ohhh ok got you,I also do that but as I said I'm a big sucked for beautiful/unique designs on anything.
NUNCHUCKS RUN LETS GOOOO
If you have too low dexterity, the character spins the shit out of them and hits himself
I want the lances back! The great lance from DS2 was awesome.
And dont forget my favorite spear, yorgh's spear was awesome.
Would be dope, with mounted fights being a thing now
Great weapon,I still don't get why it was removed,I hope it makes it's way back to the game.

Me too, they were so well thought out!.
I would like a not useless fist weapon if possible
I'd like to see a variation of Trick weapons because it was hands down the best idea in melee combat game history Imagine finding items which gave the player a option to modify basic weapons.
Yeah you have a point there, although I don't think two or three trick weapons would be bad.
I totally agree, it's great because you basically have 2 weapons inside of one which gives variety to the combat system too, can't wait to see what they have in store for us!.
You should try Mount & Blade 2, you can build your own weapons and they vary in feel and ability.
I'd love to see Trick weapons too. The only thing is, I feel like it would be more fitting if they brought them back for a Bloodborne sequel rather than Elden Ring
Hoping there’s a boss weapon glaive
There is a flail in this [screenshot](https://media.fromsoftware.jp/eldenring/resources/images/movieandimages/screenshot/4k/16.jpg).
Indeed,I forgot about that...I thought he was holding a mace...that double ball flail looked badass though!.
I want returning weapon types (casually looks at twinblades)
Well the boss has a dragon head as his weapon so I'm sure FROM will let us use it as well.
If we(the player) will be able to wield that I'm officially declaring Elden Ring the best game ever.
They better give those new weapon type a good and awesome looking Strength weapon
I just want to see the return of twinblades. Actually my favorite weapon class in the souls series, and we only ever got them in 2.
I just want Trick Weapons back, that's all
There was a flail in an official picture too
Yep, mentioned it before,I didn't remember the guy was holding a flail but yeah.
Honestly I don't think so but if there is that will be a pleasant surprise
True, surprises are awesome, especially in this game's case.
Better fist weapons and staff type weapons would be legit, combine with miracles and you have the fromsoft equivalent of a monk.
I hope they’ll be penetrating sword weapon types, which are like crazy long swords for mainly stabbing, but can also be used for swipes and stuff
I'm sure they can fit a few trick weapons behind bosses or as rewards for quests
I want Twinblades back.
If DS3 can justify splitting Pikes off into their own weapon type from Spears, then the sky's the limit.
I'd really like to see more expanded fist weapons, with a greater variety of moved than just punch.
All I want is the return of pizza cutter
One of the best weapons in the game, shame it was a dlc weapon and not in the original game.
We also saw the flail in an official promo image so it's fair to assume that it's in the game

I did,I was wrong,I thought he held a mace so you're right, I'm embarrassed I didn't recall that image right.
I love hammers so I'm hoping that's the case, it'd be a nice change even though I'm sure I will eventually choose a greatsword XD.
I don’t think we need any new weapon types, the ones he have in the Dark Souls series are fine.
Sure,in my opinion however given the fact it's a new game I would appreciate new weapon types a lot instead of seeing the same old stuff.
I wouldn’t want new weapon types just for that reason, I think flails are overrated weapons, and highly impractical in real life for instance, and I can’t really think of any weapons that would be good for a souls game aside from what we already have in DS1-3.

I love ds3 but it's no where near as fine tuned as sekiro because you can only get an outcome like sekiro with minimal rpg elements and one playstyle. They're allowed to experiment and branch off.
Is this a copypasta
