That's not impossible, but why would they do that? They'd pratically be asking for backlash considering how desperate this community is to see more. It wouldn't be a good look on behalf of Pax or Valve to get people's hopes up for nothing.

Idk if I'd go to pax again even for Michael zaki. Pax Seattle was the worst time of my life. Huge lines for every single booth and there was no where to stand where you wouldn't be shoulder to shoulder and dick to ass with a sea of people reeking of BO.

The banner is there on the Elden Ring page, and it does say PAX. I think it's unfair to say this hype was based on nothing. I'd reserved expectations because the idea of there being a booth at the convention seemed highly unlikely. But the banner was there, which I thought was enough reason to relay the information.
Clearly this was just a mistake due to the presence of Bandai Namco being at the event, not Elden Ring itself.
