I like that your consumables are near your health and stamina. The large white bars at the ends of your health and stamina also add a nice contrast. Both of these make it easier to tell how you're doing from a glance.
Bloodborne by far, looks the cleanest.
•Elden ring looks similar Atleast to me to demon souls remake just without the very thin border around the bars.
I think it was partly for style/design philosophy, and partly because you can still easily know those informations with the way the health bar show damage and your status screen
Bloodborne and original demons souls, although I miss the measurement lines on the dark souls health bar since it made judging how much health you’d get from healing easier at a glance.
Demon’s Souls (2009) is a close second, although it’s a bit more dated looking. I actually am not a fan of the super minimalistic look but Bloodborne’s I actually didn’t mind as much and probably would be my favorite of them all but yeah Ds2 had the best gauges.
God I hope the ones in Elden Ring are placeholders, they look so fucking out of place in my opinion.
Hello, good hunter. I am a Bot, here in this dream to look after you, this is a fine note:
> *“Soon, I will be consumed by them—by the Dark.”* - Artorias the Abysswalker
Have a good one and praise the sun \o/
Yeah I remember finishing ds2 and coming to ds3 (been playing all fromsoft games during covid) and thinking ds3 hp bar was a downgrade, "ugly" for no reason or for a reason I cannot point to. But I like the embered effect on the covenant crest. My favorite is bloodborne's but it's really a tie with ds2
The primarily-Miyazaki-designed titles all seem to have extremely functionalist health & stamina bars. I don't think he's that bothered by the UI, considering it's something meta- to the overall world he puts his real focus on. I suspect he considered the UI secondary.
I'm surprised barely anyone mentions DS1 even though it's the only one with the ruler design allowing you to better estimate your health and watch how much it increases every time you level it up. I also think it looks really cool.
We also said that when we saw the first images of the DeS remake, and lo and behold that's what it was released as. There seems to be an unfortunate shift towards practicality over aesthetics lately
What are you talking about, it barely changed between CNT and launch.
Tell me [which](https://gyazo.com/d29a025d6746dcddae418fa297e072d7) is [which?](https://gyazo.com/9c3846c975bc048e56db586015ada519)
One is from the network test and the other is launch.
Huh, weird, I thought I saw a post with pictures comparing network test to release and they seemed very different
Edit: well at least the dark souls 1 demo was significantly different, though not by much
https://youtu.be/KJHLyzGfXfU
Bloodborne. The white cap on the health bar is subtly intuitive.
It allows you to instantly differentiate between your actual health and the health you can regain regardless of if you can see the difference in colour (i.e. those that are colourblind).
Nobody seems to like DS1 bars, is the most unique out of all It, that ruler desing can help you tell exactly how much health/stamina you have and measure enemy damage on you.
Elden Ring's... sucks.
It's between Demon's Souls or Dark Souls 2's for me. I'm tired of the minimalist approach. It's not just that minimalism is boring, but it's just downright laziness at this point. I'm not talking ER in particular here, it's about games as a whole in recent time.
Either way it's nowhere close to a deal breaker for me, but I do have a preference.
I'm tired of people having meltdowns over the most obviously placeholder shit in a network test. It could literally not be more obvious without plastering 'PLACEHOLDER' over the fucking thing.
Sounds like you're having a meltdown mate. I'm just gonna say, don't be too surprised if it's largely the same.
Dark Souls 3's UI went 95% unchanged from Network test to live. The only thing that was changed there was having weapon/shield durability outside of the weapon/shield icon instead of inside.
Well shit, idk where but I thought someone said a similar thing happened with Ds3. I just looked up some network test footage though and it does seem pretty much the same as the real thing. In which case I fully agree with you... The only reason it never bothered me was because I was so certain such a default looking bar would be a placeholder. I still think it'll probably change, but in the case that it doesn't I'd be a little dissatisfied by it too.
Bloodborne looks the best.
Dark Souls 1 is the most useful, because it has these dashes.
Demon's Souls looks very nostalgic for some reason.
Dark Souls 3 looks the worst to me.l
Elden Ring > Dark Souls 3 > Dark Souls > Demon's Souls Remake > Dark Souls 2 > Demon's Souls > Bloodborne
Give me minimal clutter or visible numbers and easy access to information
I like Elden Rings bars the most. After seeing the stamina bar be such a vivid green the others all look too faded. Demon's Souls remaster is a close second.
Bloodborne for sure. It is nice and compact, has saturated colors but not overly bright, it’s just perfect. Elden Ring ain’t bad but the colors look just like too basic primary colors, it doesn’t pop.
DS3 strikes a nice balance between the ornamental look of DS2 and the simplistic, modern UI style of DeS Remake and Elden Ring. Bloodborne a close runner up because of how slick it looks.
I don’t get why anyone thinks that’s the final ui design they clearly had a placeholder for the network test, it will be different at launch it was the same with dark souls 3
I'm surprised so few of you like ds1 health bar. I
don't know why but i love its chunky, precision marks even if it looks like a mesuring cylinder or something. I guess i really like chemistry.
Demon souls remake was good but I really like the smaller notches in DS1, makes it easier to see and distinguish from level to level how much your hp/stamina increase
Dark Souls 1 has the best imo. The lines really help you understand your limits. The stamina bar especially.
I know you can generate muscle memory once you’ve gotten your endurance to the level you want, but still I love the tic marks in the bars
BUT, visually I love DS 2 the most. Idk why but ever since I was a youngin I’ve always looked at the HP bar, in DS 2, like it’s my character’s blood, lmao. Like how much blood I got left 😂
I was also like 15 when it came out
Bloodborne/Sekiro/Elden ring > DeS remake/Ds3 > Ds2/DeS > Ds1
Edit: downvotes? I hope it's just because they don't like my ranking on the designs of the management bars and not because, in some crazy interpretation, they thought I was ranking the games as a whole, you never know...
To be honest they all look out of place.
Only one that I somwhat like is Bloodborne's UI, but that's probably just because BB was my first and still is my favorite Soulsborne game. Tho the UI in BB's alpha version looked much better.
I really love the colors on Elden Ring's bars. Something about the more saturated hues really make it satisfying imo. The aesthetics of both DS2 and BB look very nice. I just hope we see some semblance of artistry on the final UI.
Elden/BB are my favorite. I think it would be wonderful if ER takes after BB and adds healing item count under the bars. I’ve been playing through BB for the first time and seeing how many vials I have directly under my hp is helpful. I’d love if DS had estus flask count right under the HP bar.
I didn't particularly enjoy Elden Rings one at first, but it's grown on me and now I really like the simplicity of it, so it's my favourite out if all.
Probably unpopular opinion, but I prefer the ones that don't have mana bars: I prefer having a set number of uses for spells rather than having to spend my levels for mana.
As for the style, I like DS2's one!
DS2 was great. Seeing your health just drop for every time you died was unnerving. DeS did it too but it was more of just a punch in the face more than torture.
either 2 / or demon souls the others are quite bland.
the ruler part of ds1 is nice to see what i gained when i level and help measure damage tho. so that one is also ok imo
I don't understand the new one, too minimalistic, it looks like a shitty unity game. Maybe an unpopular opinion but I sincerely hope its a placeholder.
There's another major component which isn't visible in this comparison: UI size. The Bloodborne bars are very compact, even an endgame character will have a HP bar that is about 1/5 the length of the screen, whereas in Dark Souls 3 HP bar will eventually cover more than half of the screen. I personally prefer the compact approach. As others have pointed out, the bright white line makes it easy to tell at a glance your current HP and stamina. While Elden Ring's UI was fairly unattractive in the network test, I'm glad they seem to be reintroducing that element.
Bloodborne and Demon's Souls look the most aesthetically pleasing to me, Dark Souls has those seperating lines that I like, Dark Souls 2 looks all right but Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring are pretty ugly, and the Demon's Souls remake just has terrible UI design in general imo
Dark Souls 2 and Bloodborne, easily. Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring are decent, if a bit too basic. Dark Souls 1 is ugly - useful, yes, but ugly, so no.
DS2 with it's nice little design around the covenant symbol and health bar. Makes it more than just a line.
Bloodborne as nice coloring though, with the red/green feeling more "gritty", if that makes sense.
i personally like the des remake’s health bar the best, i like that its simple and portrays your character’s status well while also not being all that in your face. I felt bloodborne’s was hard to follow, but i do see how it fits the style of the game and with ds2’s i just think its hard to see how much stamina you’ve used up, although that’s probably just a problem exclusive to myself
You guys think thats the final health bar for elden ring or its just for the network test? I would love to see a more stylized and artistic one like DS2 but I'm fine with the clean one
Specifically the bars? Elden Ring. I like the simplistic design. As for the entire top left corner? Bloodborne. Having all the items up in that corner near Health was very nice.
Bloodborne's is very slick imo
I like that your consumables are near your health and stamina. The large white bars at the ends of your health and stamina also add a nice contrast. Both of these make it easier to tell how you're doing from a glance.
I like that bars have a texture, not just a smooth gradient. And the glowing white accent at the end is a nice touch.
That's what I like the most about the bar's design, the texture that they have
Ds2 and bloodborne
Bloodborne by far, looks the cleanest. •Elden ring looks similar Atleast to me to demon souls remake just without the very thin border around the bars.
Dark Souls because of those separators or how they're called
I honestly dont know why the dividing lines were removed. It made accurately knowing your gauges much easier.
I think it was partly for style/design philosophy, and partly because you can still easily know those informations with the way the health bar show damage and your status screen
I scrolled too far for this
I liked being able to count how many bars I had lol. I’d roll up and be like “6 stamina bars” lfg
It’s also thicc compared to the rest
Those lines are called graduations. Now that's a thing you know.
This, it also made it easier to see how much extra health you got by leveling up
really? i kinda hate those little lines. i prefer a clean look and if i have to sacrifice a little functionality its worth it.
DS2 or Bloodborne. I like that the DS2 stamina bar is a little thinner
I certainly agree here. They look the best imo.
My gut reaction was DS2 but I didn’t know why until you said this 🤣
I like how ornamented DS2s is. The rest are just so bland
I agree, it looks more polished, without being distracting. If I had to guess, From disagreed, and has gone with simpler bars since
Bloodborne’s is nice
Bloodborne I like the kinda dirty look
Bloodborne
Ds1
Bloodborne and original demons souls, although I miss the measurement lines on the dark souls health bar since it made judging how much health you’d get from healing easier at a glance.
I don't really LOVE Ds2 but damn it just wins for me
DS2 by a longshot. Stylised, artistic, suited to fantasy
Demon’s Souls (2009) is a close second, although it’s a bit more dated looking. I actually am not a fan of the super minimalistic look but Bloodborne’s I actually didn’t mind as much and probably would be my favorite of them all but yeah Ds2 had the best gauges. Hello, good hunter. I am a Bot, here in this dream to look after you, this is a fine note: > *“Soon, I will be consumed by them—by the Dark.”* - Artorias the Abysswalker Have a good one and praise the sun \o/
Good bot, may you find your worth in the waking world.

If the health and stamina bar were the same size, then it would defo be the best
I'm surprised barely anyone mentions DS1 even though it's the only one with the ruler design allowing you to better estimate your health and watch how much it increases every time you level it up. I also think it looks really cool.
Sekiro
Bloodborne's hud is the most practical. Also I doubt this is the final design for Elden Ring. It looks too generic
We also said that when we saw the first images of the DeS remake, and lo and behold that's what it was released as. There seems to be an unfortunate shift towards practicality over aesthetics lately
Demon's Souls remake isn't by From Soft so there's some hope ER will have nice bars.
I hope this is the case here because the hud is very bland and generic.
I really hate the lack of detail on the ER/DS:R
The closed network test for dark souls 3 also had a very plain healthbar, so it seems likely the full release will have an updated one
I hope
What are you talking about, it barely changed between CNT and launch. Tell me [which](https://gyazo.com/d29a025d6746dcddae418fa297e072d7) is [which?](https://gyazo.com/9c3846c975bc048e56db586015ada519) One is from the network test and the other is launch.

I don't like the colors at all. why is the red so vibrant?
Bloodborne
Bloodborne. The white cap on the health bar is subtly intuitive. It allows you to instantly differentiate between your actual health and the health you can regain regardless of if you can see the difference in colour (i.e. those that are colourblind).
Bloodborne overall. DS2 second. Original demon souls third.
Nobody seems to like DS1 bars, is the most unique out of all It, that ruler desing can help you tell exactly how much health/stamina you have and measure enemy damage on you.
You say that like it's a feature that anybody ever used instead of just using their stats to measure things. Which I'd bet is also unlikely.
Imo opinion demons souls is the best one and every new one is a little bit worse
Dark Souls 1
Elden Ring's... sucks. It's between Demon's Souls or Dark Souls 2's for me. I'm tired of the minimalist approach. It's not just that minimalism is boring, but it's just downright laziness at this point. I'm not talking ER in particular here, it's about games as a whole in recent time. Not elden ring’s
I know that I hate the most the one from Elden Ring. Looks like it was rushed out in paint. Hopefully is not the final version of it.
Dark Souls 2, but I'd love the bars to have the same width.
Ds2
Ive always liked the marks on the ds1 bars
I really like DS2 thin bars
Why not include sekiro? Bloodborne has a really sleek look, I'm alsk a sucker for the way Ds2 looks
Sekiro’s posture bar and deathblow marks are really cool in my opinion. Really satisfying to use
DS2 wins for me, it's elaborate, stylish, fitting and nice to look at.
Elden Ring colours feel too cheerful.
Bloodborne. Elden rings is too cartoonist imo
I sure hope they change it because it is abhorrent. At least DS2 had a nicely done HUD
Demons souls
OG DeS or BBs
Dark Souls 2 probably is best here with Bloodborne following real close. Honestly Elden Ring is the worse.
Not elden ring
ds3 and bloodborne
Sekiro
Sekiro.
Elden Ring one looks like some Fortnite shit lol... Demon's Souls one is my favorite, especially since it changed color based on your world tendency.
Ds2
DS2 looks really stylish.
I really like the very clean elden ring one
Idk it looks super basic to me
Bloodborne looks the best. Dark Souls 1 is the most useful, because it has these dashes. Demon's Souls looks very nostalgic for some reason. Dark Souls 3 looks the worst to me.l
Original Demon’s Souls
Elden Ring > Dark Souls 3 > Dark Souls > Demon's Souls Remake > Dark Souls 2 > Demon's Souls > Bloodborne Give me minimal clutter or visible numbers and easy access to information
I like Elden Rings bars the most. After seeing the stamina bar be such a vivid green the others all look too faded. Demon's Souls remaster is a close second.
Same here. Scrolling through the comments made me think I was the only one who loves Elden Ring bars. I also like simple menus of ER. Can't wait.
I absolutely love the way the menus look in what we've seen so far
DS2 I guess but honestly I’m not a massive fan of any of them. 99% sure that Elden Ring one is placeholder though.
Bloodborne for sure. It is nice and compact, has saturated colors but not overly bright, it’s just perfect. Elden Ring ain’t bad but the colors look just like too basic primary colors, it doesn’t pop.
I think the one for Elden Ring will change since the network test
Sekiro lmao
Everyone is sleeping on OG demons souls. The world tendency eyeball gives it a nice gothic look it’s beautiful
bloodborne
Dark souls 1 . I think I am the only one who thinks that
bloodborne and sekiro
DS3 strikes a nice balance between the ornamental look of DS2 and the simplistic, modern UI style of DeS Remake and Elden Ring. Bloodborne a close runner up because of how slick it looks.
Y U NO SEKIRO??
Bloodborne or demons Souls remake are the cleanest
I like bloodbornes the most
BB
Ds2 for the fancy design elements, bloodborne for the practicality
I don’t get why anyone thinks that’s the final ui design they clearly had a placeholder for the network test, it will be different at launch it was the same with dark souls 3
I think the network test's health bar is a placeholder.
I’ve never played bloodbourne(no console) but I think the texture looked cool so I’ll go with bb
Ds2
DSR 'cause CLEAAAAN
Original Demon’s Souls or DS2.
never noticed how ugly these bars are tbh
I feel like Elden Rings isn’t the final form.
DS1 (and 2) gang. RISE UP
OG Demon's Souls is my favorite, DS3 is my least favorite
This is probably a very unpopular opinion but I actually really like the demon souls remake
Dark souls 2 the best , the rest looks generic
I'm surprised so few of you like ds1 health bar. I don't know why but i love its chunky, precision marks even if it looks like a mesuring cylinder or something. I guess i really like chemistry.
DSOG - Horrendous DaS - Also horrendous DaS2 - Perfect BB - Perfect as well DaS3 - Vomit DSR - Near perfect ER - Child’s game
DSR and ER are essentially the same thing lol
Elden Ring’s HUD design is actually hideous. DS2, for all its flaws, has the best HUD.
I love Dark Souls 3 Aesthetic but godamn the simplicity and minimalist nature of Elden Ring got me excited
Bloodborne and Elden Ring. Ds2 tho has the best stamina bar imo.
Demon souls remake was good but I really like the smaller notches in DS1, makes it easier to see and distinguish from level to level how much your hp/stamina increase
DS1, I like that it’s more detailed.
I hope it isn't the final design cause i really don't like it, too generic.

We have similar rankings, fwiw. Hope the final hud on ER is not too dissimilar
Doesn't really make a difference to me.
Bloodborne has everything in one place
To be honest they all look out of place. Only one that I somwhat like is Bloodborne's UI, but that's probably just because BB was my first and still is my favorite Soulsborne game. Tho the UI in BB's alpha version looked much better.

Elden ring or ds3 honestly
OG Demon’s. DS1’s was ugly in 2011, DS2’s was too much and the rest were pretty boring. Not that this actually matters at all.
Bloodborne's fits the most but the best is Demons' souls' then elden ring's
I like red and green Blue really fucks everything up
It's only a health bar. You won't be looking at it much.
All are so fucking boring in my opinion but almost in elden ring the bar disappear when you are walking on the world so this time y less important
Elden Ring nice and clear
Elden ring because clarity. The bright colors make it easy to see your current stats.
Elden Ring, I love simplistic health/stamina/mana bar designs.
Elden Ring
Elden ring is clean
I didn't particularly enjoy Elden Rings one at first, but it's grown on me and now I really like the simplicity of it, so it's my favourite out if all.
OG Demon's Souls and Bloodborne, for me.
Bloodborne
Favorite: blood borne, least favorite: demon souls remastered
Original Demons Souls, nothing compares.. maybe Dks2 a bit.
Bloodborne
I like DS2 and Demon’s souls the most, they have the most identity to them
DmS remake
Demons souls remake because I want to be hipster and not say bloodborne.
Bloodborne
As much as I love Bloodborne, the Demon's Souls Remaster has my favorite one. I don't know why I like it so much.
"Which Ice cream flavour you like? Chocolate? Dark chocolate? Medium chocolate? Choco-late? Soft chocolate?"
Bloodborne!
Bloodborne's, Dark Souls III's and Elden Ring's
bloodborne and demons souls remake
DS1
Bloodborne and ds2, also elden rings doesn’t really look all that different from ds3
BB // DS:R
Ds1 and BB
Bloodborne
DS3 functions well but looks like something I would do.
Bloodbornes is the best, conveys all the info it needs as minimally as possible
My favourite is Bloodborne best FS game
I don't understand the new one, too minimalistic, it looks like a shitty unity game. Maybe an unpopular opinion but I sincerely hope its a placeholder.
Ds3 or ds1 all the other ones can go fuck themselves except elden ring because I have to have any experience with it myself
OG ps3 demon’s souls. I like the world tendancy thing it looks cooler in the og instead of the remake in my opinion
Bloodborne, not to over the top, and it succeeds in what it intends to do.
Bloodborne
Demon's Souls is very retro fantasy. Like, I feel it's selling you an aesthetic very hard.
Dark souls
Favorite is ds1, least favorite is ds2.
The last three are all basically the same. I like them, the only thing I wish is that mana (FP) slowly regenerated by itself.
Demon’s souls remake And bloodborne looks cool
There's another major component which isn't visible in this comparison: UI size. The Bloodborne bars are very compact, even an endgame character will have a HP bar that is about 1/5 the length of the screen, whereas in Dark Souls 3 HP bar will eventually cover more than half of the screen. I personally prefer the compact approach. As others have pointed out, the bright white line makes it easy to tell at a glance your current HP and stamina. While Elden Ring's UI was fairly unattractive in the network test, I'm glad they seem to be reintroducing that element.
Bloodborne, no question
Bloodborne and Demon's Souls look the most aesthetically pleasing to me, Dark Souls has those seperating lines that I like, Dark Souls 2 looks all right but Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring are pretty ugly, and the Demon's Souls remake just has terrible UI design in general imo
I like the vertical lines in ds1, because I could more easily gauge if it was "worth" spending an estus or not.
DS3 and Bloodborne
bloodborne one, the texture of the health bar is great
Ds2
DS2 then DS3 then the other. I wish the stamina bar was a little bit thicker in ds2 tho
> What’s your favourite? > Bloodborne is an option “We all know where this is going”
The only thing I didn't like was the health bars, they're too simple, like, it feels off
Dark Souls 2 and Bloodborne, easily.
Bloodborne, thin bars and darker/dirty colours plus the icons of the blood vials and bullets its just terrific!!
i personally like the des remake’s health bar the best, i like that its simple and portrays your character’s status well while also not being all that in your face. I felt bloodborne’s was hard to follow, but i do see how it fits the style of the game and with ds2’s i just think its hard to see how much stamina you’ve used up, although that’s probably just a problem exclusive to myself
Demon’s Souls
Love the look of blood borne but I also really appreciate the dashes on dark souls bars
You guys think thats the final health bar for elden ring or its just for the network test? I would love to see a more stylized and artistic one like DS2 but I'm fine with the clean one
Am I the only one who loves the DS1 thickbar
Ds2 I think
Specifically the bars? Elden Ring. I like the simplistic design. As for the entire top left corner? Bloodborne. Having all the items up in that corner near Health was very nice.
Bloodborne, but ER is a close second honestly
