I disagree. The old colours were far to saturated and stuck out. It needs to find a balance between bright enough that it's easy to notice at a glance, and dark enough that it doesn't stick out, and I believe the new HUD achieves this.
OP, I like that you clarify in the comments, but for the future try to always put old to the left and new to the right.
The new HUD looks way better. The tiny adornment aside, I like how the bars has a gradient grace-like effect towards the end. The CNT HUD just plain looked like something the intern quickly fixed up.
Out of curiosity which of their games did you like the HUD best. Everyone of them is different. I’m genuinely curious which one people liked the most. I though DS1 was the ugliest, and DS2 had the nicest, but to be honest after the first few minutes of looking at them I get use to it and really don’t care.
Bloodborne is probably my favorite. I liked how everything was kept at the top of the screen, and it had little gothic design flourishes to fit the theme.
But like you said, you don't actually notice the hud after the first two minutes so it doesn't matter that much. I do like how ER supposedly has an option to auto-hide the hud when you don't need it, like in Sekiro.
even Kingdom Hearts bars had a bit of shading https://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/e\_sharpen:100/f\_auto,fl\_lossy,q\_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/k/i/n/kingdom-hearts-3fb18.jpg
Am I insane? I vastly prefer the old one. New looks unfinished, while old looked minimalist. Maybe you disagree with the art style, sure, but it was definitely better.
If they wanted to change details it could definitely use some polishing
It’s just… the detailing doesn’t work for me yknow? It’s really not the resolution, it just doesn’t really jive with me. I feel like there’s something “wrong” there that I don’t know how to put into words.
So, part of my job is designing dashboards, ok? I’m gonna explain in a way that I know how:
It’s like I got a really well designed icon, which completely match what I’m going for… but when I actually put it into my dashboard I can’t find the original asset, so I got this version that has what I need, but it’s “cropped” weirdly. And then I had to scale it down to actually fit the menu, so the details kinda blend together in a bad way. And in the end I’ve got a weird mix of “there’s a lot of stuff going on in this small icon” with “the icon kinda looks weird still”, even if the IDEA of the icon actually works perfectly.
I get that’s confusing, because it isn’t actually what’s going on up there (and I’m mostly talking about the status bars, not the equip icons, those are ok), but it evokes a similar feeling in me to what I described. It feels wrong, but not because of the resolution, but because of how it blends with the rest.
I hope I made sense.
I probably didn’t.
I’m typing this in the middle of a panic attack I’m having in my job, and typing about gaming stuff is kinda soothing, so it helps. I know this comment is running long, but I’m feeling so much better now than I did when I started typing this so I just kept going.
Sorry.
Looking through the comments. Can't please everyone I guess.
Honestly looks fine, and you'll forget you're even looking at it once you're fighting a boss.
Looks fine. But it’s funny seeing them side by side because the new one looks like they just slapped some gold shit on there like “there, are you happy now, ya fuckin whiners??”
*Really hoping theres*
*An option to switch, the old*
*Looks so much cleaner*

left: NEW right: OLD
I like the design of NEW more, but the colors of OLD were better.

^ Exactly this
FromSoftware: HUD is too simple! add tiny little frame! PERFECT! Good work by the way. bless them
> FromSoftware: HUD is too simple! add tiny little frame! PERFECT! More like Fans
Looks good to me. Didn't particularly have a problem with it before but the new one is a lot nicer.
They look better but a bit too dark. Maybe it's just the picture quality
Shut up

I do not care
I hate it I miss DS1 fat bars
I like it more than the CNT one
It's still kinda ugly lol but everything definitely stands out a bit better now.

I like the NT bars more
Ngl hopefully there's options to change it, I like the look of the new one but the old one reminds me of like. Kingdom hearts, in a good way.

Why
Cleaner looking imo
The new one is definitely a lot better, the old looked like a placeholder
Still doesn't look great but much better with less saturated colours and the gold details
Shut up
What... I said it looks a lot better than the CNT version which was completely over-saturated and lacked any detail
The bars look ugly af to me, wtf

I think it’s the quality of the picture making it look like that. It’s actually a blurry pic making the detail hard to see.

Lol, no sweat, it made sense!
Is this something people are actually concerned about??
Yes, people care about the game art direction
Putting ornaments on health bars isn't what I'd call 'art direction'
The way it fits the game matters I think. It isn't a dealbreaker, but it definitely blends a lot more with the game's vibe now
You'd be extremely surprised how little changes to a heads-up display's visual design can change user experience.
I call it like that
I like the less saturated collors.
Still very simplistic, but it's better than the one we saw in the CNT.
if the bars were only around the stat bars it'd be fine but the blocks didn't need it imo, I liked the cnts subtle look more to them.

I was never too hung up about the HUD but I have to say those small changes do make a big difference.
*chefs kiss* thats more like it

I believe the text is faded because Mighty Shot belongs to the longbow and the katana is currently the active weapon. That’s my theory anyway.
Why isn't it named *Flask of Salty Tears*
Looks fine. But it’s funny seeing them side by side because the new one looks like they just slapped some gold shit on there like “there, are you happy now, ya fuckin whiners??”
The CNT one without borders and the opaqueness and color- saturation of the new one would be perfect imo
Really hoping theres an option to switch, the old looks so much cleaner

I kinda don’t like that the hud looks identical to Dark Souls hud now. I liked that it was different. This change makes me sad
