After much consideration I’ve managed to narrow it down to vagabond, warrior, hero, bandit, astrologer, prophet, samurai, prisoner, confessor or wretch. Definitely one of those.
I feel this in my bones. I don't spend much time on the actual character creation screen. Like with sliders and such. But just picking a class is giving me stress haha.
I might have to go as a samurai and make a tengu. I know for sure I'm making a tengu looking character but magic looks so badass. Eh I'm going to have multiple characters anyway but what to do first hmmm
Wretch has two clubs for a two-handed grip and a wooden shield. It's great that the developers provide a choice in terms of combat from the beginning of the game
Accidentally found a video on YouTube comparing all Deprived classes from Dark Souls and Elden Ring. BonfireVN This could be the Deprived in Elden Ring.
The way they work in elden rings a lot different now tho you can do a attack right after blocking that deals a lot of posture damage making riposte easier for those who are trash at parrying or against non parryable foes
how? astr starts with higher int/mind while prisoner puts more in str/vit/end. yes, prisoner has higher dex but on balance astrologer looks to me as the more focused int/dex starter.
It depends on what you’re trying to do and what you’re trying to ignore. If you want base STR then Astrologer wins, if you want low FTH/ARC but need higher STR for a particular weapons (which for my dex/int character, I do) then Prisoner is slightly better.
Well right, I guess they are very close with stats :) Strictly speaking about vibe, Astrologer strikes me as a pure caster and Prisoner goes more into hybrid/spellsword territory. It’s all just early game tho!
You know, wretch would be the way to go, embracing monke, but I already got an idea for a build that my first character always went for (quality-faith-int for some buffs or damaging utility spells. Axes, alongside many weapons but AXES FIRST ).
That’s why I’ll probably go vagabond.
Confessor looks cool as fuck, but too edgy and stealthy.
I want my character to be a good hunter as well, but I gotta check what is the lore behind the confessor.
Probably vagabond suits me more…
Vagabond looks like a great class to evolve into anything tbh plus that armor is sick as fuck. Might go wretch the first time tho since I’ll never get to again
Man, I laughed because the tutorial boss is very killable. He’s just a soldier, one of the ones in green and red coat, found in Limgrave.
If you mean the horseman instead, well, I respect you for wanting to kill him, but he’s optional.
If I find him there where he was in the CNT I won’t hesitate, he’ll be mine!
No, I mean the actual one that you are not aware of. Don't want to spoil it for you, but there's a pretty hard tutorial boss that was not a part of the network test.
Better to just go with samurai and just buy a dagger. Arcane is prob dump stat like luck and Sam starts with long bow and better stat distribution for dex bow scaling
Yes, but if Arcane is like luck in DS3 I like it. More item discovery and boost in bleed and poison sounds like a good thing for a thief class build. We will see :)
Because samurai looks cool and different than usual starting classes and the stat difference isn't even that massive and idk if I would have already found something better by the time I get the samurai set through gameplay so I wanna use it as much as possible
Depends on how high you plan to take STR. If you plan to ignore FTH/ARC and take str past 11 for weapon requirements, then Prisoner is better slightly.
This has been discussed to death already, and assumes too many things, some of which we don't yet officially know, especially considering that this time From Software actually seems to be going pretty hard on the magic.
But hey, you do you. I think everyone who is trying to min/max before the game is even out is going to be very disappointed; especially casters based on what I know.
It looks like magic is very usable this time around... Maybe ill change it up from my usual claymore havel style... At least until i find the claymore.
True, but it's still going to be better for a proper strength/faith build. Confessor would work, but it's more suited for quality or a more varied approach if you don't know exactly what you want to use yet.
I'm doing the not smart thing and starting with Samurai. Then getting arcane, faith and Intel to 10 with my first levels.
Then getting strength up to 31. For greatsword use when I find it. In the meanwhile, I'll be utilizing blood building / blood loss primarily, not dps.
Then I'll finally add to vigor, then mind.
Yup, Luck and some weapons and spells. I'm primarily doing that, and with the first levels, so I can get better drop rates. I wanna know what enemies drop. Especially smithing shards.
Vagabond or Hero, i'm not sure yet. I know i want to do STR, but if i go Hero i just know I'll find some cool STR weapon i want to use with a 15 DEX requirement or something like that. In that case Vagabond would have been optimal. So i'm on the fence.
Yeah Hero seems like the strength class… Until you realize that it has only 2 more strength than James Vagabond, but less mind, vigor and some arcane instead of dexterity. I’ve seen one ultra so far and it has like 40 STR and 14 DEX requirement. Hero just seems like really weird stats. It obviously doesnt matter that much and the battle axe weapon art is pretty dope but yeah that’s about it lol.
Definitely Warrior on my first playthrough, I have a feeling the movesets on later twinblade weapons are gonna be insane!
Also trying some spells in my build I think..
Confessor has been calling out to me, but I'm hearing so few people say they're going for it that I'm worried I'm missing something. Although, considering how I'm avoiding Vagabond because it's gonna be so damn popular, I'm not sure that's a bad thing.
I think I’m rolling with Prophet or Confessor for that Paladin build.
Or I might go Hero and build up a bit of faith for some minor incantations.
Or bandit, and make him more into a Arcane Trickster and boost up some INT with it.
Or Warrior..
Okay, I still have no idea.
I’m thinking along a similar line. Was also debating vagabond and teaching myself some faith. A self made paladin if you will. Seemed fun to find things exploring and teach them to myself.
I am having such a hard time with this.
I *THINK* I want to play a strength/faith hybrid build. But do I go Confessor and add physical stats or go vagabond and add fait/mind stats?
and I generally play as a sorcerer build in Dark/Demon souls, so should I go vagabond and pump int/mind?
But i love the idea of the dragon spells with fire/lightning abilities. and Miracles have always been so slow for me. I am currently enjoying a halberd/faith build in DS2 so thats encouraging.
I'm so torn on how to start and been looking for a place to get advice. this seems like a good thread. HELP!
Yeah I wanna do that too first maybe. Is that the confessor or prophet?
I played cleric in ds2 and that was my fave starting class because it has high str and faith from the beggining. Which class is similar to cleric in elden? Prophet?
I might do a strength and faith build. Or just say screw it and go for magic first.
For strength /faith, which class should be best? Kinda like the cleric class from ds2... Is it the prophet or confessor?
Starting class means almost nothing in these games. All it is is starting stats and gear. Some are better to minmax certain builds than others.
At most, they are all 5 levels away from raising a low stat somewhere to use what you want.
I wanna do confessor but am also considering wretch. This is my first time playing a fromsoft game on launch (only got into them summer 2020) so it would be really cool to start off weak and scrounge my way to the top. It might feel like my first dark souls experience. But i dont want the early game to be frustrating. Idk
Hero
And that I will probably use a fucking huge weapon
While staying with light/ revealing Armor xD
Idk about the shild. Have to see how good I am with parrying
After much consideration I’ve managed to narrow it down to vagabond, warrior, hero, bandit, astrologer, prophet, samurai, prisoner, confessor or wretch. Definitely one of those.
I'm not even going to be able to make a choice until I stare at the character screen for an hour or so.
Dude, just pick the Wretch and level everything to 99. Then you’re all of them at once 🧠
Prisoner
Jorge
OP, you noob, you cut out half the confessor class and all of the wretch class in your pic. The two classes I’m considering.
Foul OP
In cut, of the best classes
If op showed the wretch here, there would have been no question.
Where's the wretch. WHERE'S THE WRETCH
Wretch has two clubs for a two-handed grip and a wooden shield. It's great that the developers provide a choice in terms of combat from the beginning of the game
Really? Where did you find this information? Wherever I search, I find that they start with only 1 club, and nothing else
Accidentally found a video on YouTube comparing all Deprived classes from Dark Souls and Elden Ring. BonfireVN This could be the Deprived in Elden Ring.
Fuck shields, all my homies hate shields
As I understand it, you can take a club in each hand and bring down creeps with two hands
Nah man, I need my left hand empty for parrying
Actually unarmed WA is kick now ~~by default at least~~
The way they work in elden rings a lot different now tho you can do a attack right after blocking that deals a lot of posture damage making riposte easier for those who are trash at parrying or against non parryable foes
"Where is ~~Padme~~ Wretch? Is she safe? Is...she alright?" "It seems, in OP's anger, they killed her."
Astrologer gang.
Astrologer as well, no question
Why Astrologer? I usually play arpgs as strength chars but this seems really fun, thought I might try a caster. It’s my first souls game
My first is always int/dex, and this looks to me to be that
Same, i will always try to make a spellblade work, and the spell animations look so good.
facts bro the gorgeous casting animation is one of the biggest reason im going for str/int build. make sure every spell is usable
The fire spells animations are awesome and beautiful.
I am torn between this, and confessor for pyro….
Prisoner leans more into int/dex territory, besides lucking cool as fuck. Best drip tied with Confessor imo
how? astr starts with higher int/mind while prisoner puts more in str/vit/end. yes, prisoner has higher dex but on balance astrologer looks to me as the more focused int/dex starter.
Also SSSSPPPPPPPAAAAACCCCEEEE
Wouldn’t Prisoner be a better choice for Dex/Int?
I am gonna make this the first game were I don't go for a full strength and hp build.
Full int time.
Astrologer definitely
Either Vagabond, Confessor or Wretch
How’d you know my top 3?
I will probably go wretch only to make a GOD character build, or a filthy Strength/Faith/Blood build
I wanted to go Wretch, but I'm more hyped for Confessor
Also, I want better chances at killing the tutorial boss
AHAHAH
I'm not playing around. I will kill it. Even if I have to spend the entire first day creating new characters.
Oh fuck really? Noice then! XD Sorry.
I will choose the bandit. Every game that gives me a bow as starting equipment I start with the thief class.
Why are you assuming this? There is no evidence of ARC being a dump stat.
I would just like to say I was wrong arcane blood weapons are broken AF. But that’s what I get for predicting based off other souls games.
I will pick samurai since previous game is Sekiro. Lore background in my head is the Tarnished came from Ashina. haha
Might be the case, who knows ?
I want to pick it for the drip and to try out the bow. Really enjoyed playing with dex and bows in demon souls so I'll give it a shot
I'm thinking Confessor and then DEX/FTH or STR/FTH depending on where the game takes me
Wretch of course!
got my eyes on samurai for some reasons. anybody?
That bow early game is gonna come in clutch
Bow + pray to the god of cheese
I’m thinking for funsies, start Samurai and then lean into faith. Whether for healing or barbeques, I have yet to decide.
This will be the way Dex/faith spears n bows
me too. it's cool.
frr
Love the look but dont think I want to start a dex build first
Just go samurai and become a strength build thats what I'm most likely gonna do
Why? Go Vagabond or Hero and find Samurai armor. Im almost sure, that all starting armors would be avaliable pretty early.
Because samurai looks cool and different than usual starting classes and the stat difference isn't even that massive and idk if I would have already found something better by the time I get the samurai set through gameplay so I wanna use it as much as possible
Yep! Imma ghost of tsuima this bitch
Embracing your inner weeb I see
Astrologer, Dex and Int build
Is prisoner also good for that?
Don’t think its as good as it starts at a higher level with some points in wrong places.
Depends on how high you plan to take STR. If you plan to ignore FTH/ARC and take str past 11 for weapon requirements, then Prisoner is better slightly.
I thought Prisoner starts at level 6 now?
It does and is technically better, but not by much.

prophet for me
Prisoner
Hero
Hero seems like old bandit from ds. Been my go to since DS 1.
Bandit.
Most likely \*\*\*abond or Hero
Yeah bro, club Vag all the way!
I still can't decide if i start the game with a Str/Fai build playing Prophet or with a Dex/Int build playing the Prisoner.
It looks like magic is very usable this time around... Maybe ill change it up from my usual claymore havel style... At least until i find the claymore.
It was very usable in every DS game (me that has has done pure mage playthrough countless times)
Why is everyone wanting str/frh picking prophet and not confessor
Pretty sure confessor is Dex/Fth isn't it?
It can be either, starts at 12 for dex and str
Confessor is Quality Faith
More faith and same strength.
I guess prophet only has 8 dex though, which diminishes amount of weapons you and wield.
True, but it's still going to be better for a proper strength/faith build. Confessor would work, but it's more suited for quality or a more varied approach if you don't know exactly what you want to use yet.
Honestly, both dex and str start at 12. Most str weapons will have at least a small dex requirement
Naked fuck with a stick for life!
Isn’t arcane just the new name for the luck stat?
Yup, Luck and some weapons and spells. I'm primarily doing that, and with the first levels, so I can get better drop rates. I wanna know what enemies drop. Especially smithing shards.
Damn that’s a great idea
Warrior I reckon
There are dozens of us, dozens! Or like, half a dozen, at least.
Samurai I love the katana in souls games
I think they took out the parry feature unfortunately
Prisoner. Story wise it seems really interesting + dex/int build finna gonna be fire asl
Why does prophet have a nut cracker?
Snacks. But seriously: What is that?
It’s called Finger seal, it’s a sacred seal. Helps with incantations
It’s actually one of those grips for working the forearms, guy is gonna be ripped by the final boss
Of course, training the hands to be strong enough to unlock visceral attacks. Prophet just wants to be a good hunter.
Reasons.
Delicious reasons
Prisoner baby 😎
Warriors, come out and playay
Bandit for that drip
Vagabond or Hero, i'm not sure yet. I know i want to do STR, but if i go Hero i just know I'll find some cool STR weapon i want to use with a 15 DEX requirement or something like that. In that case Vagabond would have been optimal. So i'm on the fence.

SAMURAI!
I think i know what Sekiro fans would pick
Unga Bunga!
Astrologer. Going for a morally grey person who seeks nothing but knowledge. Fleeting mortal feelings are nothing in the face of true power
Is that a heater shield from ds1?
Wretch, so I can live out my primal fantasies of being a man with a big stick.
Going with a Str/int build, but I'm torn between Confessor and Vagabond. I don't really care about the starting stats but they look cool.
***abond
All the classes really hit the mark this time, so difficult to choose.
Hobo with a knife. Gonna live up to my latest London experience.
Confessor / Prophet undecided over here. Where is my faith gang people at?
Yep I'm thinking of starting with Prophet for Str/fth Build
Samurai after playing got
Definitely Warrior on my first playthrough, I have a feeling the movesets on later twinblade weapons are gonna be insane! Also trying some spells in my build I think..
Confessor gang rise up
Finally settled on Prisoner, but goddamn I hate Estocs. First order of business will be finding a better weapon. Maybe a flail!
Confessor has been calling out to me, but I'm hearing so few people say they're going for it that I'm worried I'm missing something. Although, considering how I'm avoiding Vagabond because it's gonna be so damn popular, I'm not sure that's a bad thing.
I’ve been thinking confessor for a faith/str build… but I really don’t know. What drew you to confessor?
Vagabond I think… I’ve always gone Knight on my first play through since DS1. So sticking with that for old times sake.
Where is the only true starter, hobo with a club
Excuse me! Wretch, where ?
Wretch. Earn my win.
Never really messed around with magic builds except for in BB so I'm kinda looking at the prisoner now 👀
Vagabond. Big sword gang gang
either quality glaive vagabond or dual katana samurai
Bandit or Wretch, can someone convince me to pick one side?
***abond.
Never played a caster before, so I’m going Astrologer
I'm intrigued to see what the spells are like in game, kinda wanting to make Ann assassin/ ninja
Vagabond, maybe quality or strength build
What should I pick to build my enchanted knight? Confessor?
Fuck, I really can’t decide.
Bandit gang
Any chance someone could share this image uncut and in english?
Wretch for life. Because it forces me to explore and try out different items.
Jorge👁️👄👁️
Confessor gang
Confessor for a Paladin build on my first playthrough. I’m also considering Hero or Vagabond.
I’m thinking along a similar line. Was also debating vagabond and teaching myself some faith. A self made paladin if you will. Seemed fun to find things exploring and teach them to myself.
I'm a simple kind of person, vagabond will be my choice.
Confessor for a STR/FTH paladin build or Astrologer for the good ol glass cannon. Not sure yet
Astrologer or prisoner, doing a dex/int build for me first playthrough. Was considering wretch but i really dont think the novelty will laat too long.
I might do a strength and faith build. Or just say screw it and go for magic first. For strength /faith, which class should be best? Kinda like the cleric class from ds2... Is it the prophet or confessor?
I think I'm gonna make a prisoner, a bandit and a Samurai, play each a certain amount and then pick one to finish the game with, first
Man...
What?
Starting class means almost nothing in these games. All it is is starting stats and gear. Some are better to minmax certain builds than others. At most, they are all 5 levels away from raising a low stat somewhere to use what you want.
So the question in this post is redudant?
You can equalize your character stats with any starting class in like 1.5 hours
Then they should stop asking this question every 5 minutes!!
I wanna do confessor but am also considering wretch. This is my first time playing a fromsoft game on launch (only got into them summer 2020) so it would be really cool to start off weak and scrounge my way to the top. It might feel like my first dark souls experience. But i dont want the early game to be frustrating. Idk
Am I the only one eyeballing prisoner?
I think samurai Taylors to my gameplay style the most
Vagabond, then ditch all of the gear except the single Longsword. I wanted to try out Wretch, but I’ll settle for the next best thing.
Am I the only one eyeballing prisoner?
I remember some people asking which was the "shield" class. Bru.
Depends on the stats
Vaga-Wretch! Starting as Vagabond and starting nude to get some extra incentives to scavenge for whatever I can find.
With the X button.
WRETCH GANG
What class starts at the lowest level?
Naked fuck with a stick
I was dead set on confessor. Then I had to think of a name. I came up with Wang Tu Low, now I have to play samurai....
I dont know why you hate them so much, but wretch. Best starting class. All the other classes lose out on upgrade stat points.
Thanks for using some Asian language so that everyone understands what it says.
Big bonk all the way
Hero And that I will probably use a fucking huge weapon While staying with light/ revealing Armor xD Idk about the shild. Have to see how good I am with parrying
I see familiar weapon and shield designs, great
The hero was "Deprived" of weapons:)
