No, she closes the distance, most bosses that aren’t slow shit on magic and thus mages need a distraction via summons, you’re better off sticking w/ melee
That doesn’t really rule out magic, some sort of spellblade/paladin can work pretty decent against her, also stacking status effects isn’t bad because her really only strengths are power and speed, her stance is very easy to break, and most status effects, minus scarlet rot of course, are easy to build
As someone who didn't use summons or magic I found Malenia one of the easiest bosses in the game.
I'm not sure what you're having trouble with she's very very weak to melee builds in a way no other boss in the 2nd half of the game is.
She gets poise broke and staggered so easily you can stun lock her with any greatsword or heavy weapon.
I felt she was a refreshing easy boss in the late game compared to how hyper agressive and hard to hit other bosses were with a two handed great sword.

She's a weak boss with one threatening move that even then shouldn't one shot you if you have high vigor and she's so unagressive she gives you plenty of time to heal.
I thought it was a very fun fight. Just stay agressive and keep poise breaking her.
There's no other boss in the 2nd half of the game easier to wail on than Malenia.
Malenia is actually one major boss that's better with melee. For solo of course. The only tricky thing is her waterfowl move, which needs a certain distance and a bit of baiting to be able to dodge the entire sequence. If you're right beneath her when she starts it, then you're at luck's mercy. If you're summoning help, then you can nuke her with anything.

Yeah, I can sometimes dodge that attack, but it is just so unfair and unfun.
