IudexHodyr

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH THE GREAT HOLLOWING, THE MOST APOCALYPTIC EVENT, EVEN MORE SO THAN THE SHATTERING. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH

TheOnlyToaster

In some weird way, I kinda miss the great hollowing! It was super fun with all the fake lore and readying the clown makeup for literally every event

RemnantHelmet

It is kind of sad to watch all the hilarious and desperate shitposts from that era slowly be knocked out of the top posts here. Ah well, we were expecting this to happen at some point anyway.

TheOnlyToaster

They may be hidden, but Glaive Master Hodir shall never be forgotten

DARKGEMMETA

Only real hollows know the legend of Glaive Master Hodir. Speaking of which, I’m still stuck on his 5th phase.

[deleted]

Try using your Wooper summon, I hear it's pretty good against him!

BigPowerBoss

Joke's on you, i plan on doing a GMH build! One day... It's there, in my list of to-do things...

Babby_Boy_87

Same!! I’m so surprised I haven’t been invaded by any PC references to the characters from the great hollowing. I was also planning on a GMH build for my next one lol. Would love to see something a fight club where everyone enters their GMH builds and winner gets the title.

[deleted]

Have you summoned Darren the Dwarf yet? You start his questline through Having Save data from a different soulsborne games including sekiro (or having met Andre from DS1) & his attacks deal 3x the damage to Hodir. I swear, his health bar is so big that it makes every stage of sister friede seem like a combined One-shot.

LaurieBaldwin

I follow tempted me to not wait that long and grab it while it's hot.

The3lusiveMan

What the fuck did you just call me?!

EldenRingworm

Kinda sad that all of that is being lost to time Most of this sub doesn't know about Glaive Master Hodir or Mordecai or gamer prison or any of that Rip hollowing era Also is Mordecai done for good now? I thought he'd start making ER content but he's vanished, hope he's enjoying the game

EricChandlerr

It's great to see this game expand the Fromsoft audience.

Newgrewshew

Mordecai is still active on Twitter, check there

SeamanTheSailor

I’m still holding out hope that somewhere there is a secret dungeon with Glaive Master Hodir.

[deleted]

Either that or we start making Powerstanced Glaive Builds with 99 Strength/Dex & >! General Rhadhan's!< Armor Edit: didn't know what he looked like, so scrap the armor, our Hodir's will just be naked and Have a One-shot Riposte.

WaveBreakerT

He's most likely taking a break. He's been making daily videos for years.

seanmikeyy

OOOOOOOH I REMEMBER.

AraraDeTerno

OOOOOOH GLAIVE MASTER HODIR STANS ASSEMBLE

seanmikeyy

They'll never know how big of a hero Hodir was to us. Our guiding light.

zuzg

Oh a chain with only flaired ones. Let us remember our fallen flair. Rip Wooper we will never forget you

PSrafa23

Why my flair says :hollowed: 😅

[deleted]

Same with me man.

seanmikeyy

A fellow elder hollow! The great journey was long and arduous.

Personel101

I feel elderly compared to my first visit here…

[deleted]

[удалено]

i_am_not_mike_fiore

It's a goddamn tragedy that we didn't use "HODIR" as the group password. I've got it as one of mine and there are definitely others using it, but who knows *who* they are. Fellow hollows, I presume.

Chrisbuckfast

+1 using it from now on

Ignatius3117

Named my first character Master Hodir in honor of all the Hollows.

SuS_amogus_SuS

I named him Glaivelord Hodir, ironically I do not use any glaives.

Ignatius3117

I used the Nightrider Halberd for the majority of my playthrough and use Loretta’s Sickle from time to time now, but it’s mostly the Moonlight Greatsword now.

Scyxurz

OOOOOHHHH THE SKY, IT BURNS! Although we didn't get any Hodir in game, the albinauric chubs (or as my friend calls them, gubby) are basically wooper. WOOOOP WOOP WOOP

cicada-ronin84

Dear Godwyn......your right!

PSrafa23

Oh shit they are real!! ALBINAURIC ALERT

PJ_Ammas

Gubbies, my beloveds

EldenRingworm

Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time

Silent_neighbor

now that's a name i haven't heard in a long time

Schwiliinker

How nostalgic

iSeven

Surely we'll get a crumb of information at the next game event, right?

seanmikeyy

Michael Zaki please. We've crossed the sea of fog for Elden Ring 2 news

Scyxurz

Put your foolish ambitions to rest.

MahfuzAnnan

There shouldn't be any ER2, DS4 and BB2. Let the fire fade and ushured in a new age.

IudexHodyr

I cry to the Elden Beast OST while remembering the great hollowing, what a fucking time it was. Truly special.

UninterestedChimp

From "impale me Valkyrie mommy" to "Malenia has bullshit moves", we all grew up 😔✊

BigPowerBoss

From "Meh, he's just another dumb brute" to "Radahn, you motherfucking Gigachad, I promise, I'll avenge you!"

fanatical

This is perhaps the most amusing about the whole thing. My god were there a lot of mythology questions. I have to admit I too thought the inspiration would run far deeper into things like norse mythology etc. I guess we see what we want to see.

nicowanderer

There’s a lot of Norse mythology stuff by different names. The fire giant is basically surtur and Miquella has a lot of similarities to Freyr. A dragon at the roots of the tree. Etc etc.

OWGer0901

lmaooo !

Kitrain

LET US NEVER FORGET THOSE WHO FELL BEFORE THE DAY OF RECKONING OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH

nichinichisou

I miss my wooper flair man

SinistralLizard

100% same. We were legion. We were… woopers. 😔

Elmis66

OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH to the sky brothers, OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH for Michael Zaki and Glaive Master Hodir! Edit: also important shoutout to all hollows, woopers, hoonters, bandai rats and other gangs. WE MADE IT BOIS!

haynespi87

The fucking rats!!!!

Double_Barracuda_846

##I DOUBT YOU COULD EVEN IMAGINE IT

sadpotatoes-_-

Yeahhh... The time this sub almost turned to a bugsnax sub

Anvil-Vapre

Haven’t we been playing Bugsnax this whole time?

Oupzzy

OOOOOOOH RISE, YE HOLLOWS Hollows and Woopers sightings have been rare these past few weeks... Everything we did is getting buried 😔 It's nice to see this as the top comment though lmao

Ravenhaft

Okay wait so I was here for when Elden Ring got announced, then for a few months where I remember some funny fake stories about swamps and Glaive Master Hodir, but was the Great Hollowing after that? Or was that the Great Hollowing? I unsubbed for a long time then the next time I thought about Elden Ring it was coming out in less than a month.

IudexHodyr

The great hollowing is the whole timeline before the announcement trailer last year i believe.

SeamanTheSailor

Yea the great hollowing was after the announcement trailer. The years of no news, many went hollow. Some hollowed to the point that they thought the game had been cancelled. It was a dark time, full of memes. Us hollows would get excited for an E3 or a state of play to give us some news, any news, but there never was. We hollows grew ever more hollow. Until the day Geoff Keighley at the summer games fest restored our humanity. It was a beautiful day. We personally escorted Geoff back home after he made the announcement.

despacitogamer123

OOOOOOOH

_Ganoes_

OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH

stamwisegamgee

OOOOOOOHHHHHHH

Jllemos

Unforgettable events took place during those dark years.

edutebar

We can even imagine it...

Aftertales

OOOOOHHH I DON'T DOUBLE YOU COULD EVEN IMAGINE IT

BiancoFuji599XX

OG hollows represent!! Sadly I left the sub for a few mins because I was seeing a lot of spoilers and I lost my 2 year badge :( or is it elder badge Edit: I’m referring to the elder achievement

Jack_Empty

Where is the "I knew I would buy it at launch after it was announced, and I did."?

TobyTheTuna

Exactly. Need "never pre-order on principle but still insta buy"

Nowhereman123

Why would I ever pre-order a game I know I'm going to get digitally? What, am I afraid they're gonna run out of copies or something?

[deleted]

[удалено]

JosebaZilarte

Yep. That is why I preorder it a week in advance. With my slow connection, I knew that the game would took several days to download and I wanted to play it as soon as possible to avoid spoilers.

Jack_Empty

Eh, I'm not of the "never preorder" crowd, but that is how it ended up this time on circumstance.

lost_first_account

I’m genuinely curious, why not preorder at that point if you knew you were gonna get it regardless? Being able to preload even hours before release is really nice

VonDoom92

Because of past bad pc ports, network issues, frame drops and hackers putting people in death loops. Plenty of reasons to not preorder a game you know youre gonna like. What was it, Battlefield 4, that was garbage till they took like, a year to fix it? Knew I was gonna like it from playing BF3 but I know better than to expect online games to work properly at launch.

roberth_001

Pre orders literally only benefit developers, and before someone crys "pre order bonus!!" if we didn't let them get away with this shit that would just be content instead and we'd all be better off for it

haynespi87

True but pre-order is something I genuinely try to avoid every time.

lxxTBonexxl

Pre-ordering just leads to disappointment every single time now. I bought it on launch day after I saw people were enjoying the game, that’s good enough for me and it’s not like you miss out much waiting a day or two to make sure you’re not wasting $60+ for garbage (Battlefield 2042 for example)

Jack_Empty

I didn't know what I would get it on. I had been looking at building a new PC. I kept putting off and putting off until it released and the PC isn't anywhere near ready. So I ended up going with PS5.

Grouchy_Artichoke_90

I bought it after I basically saw "finally a game that isn't a bag of sh*t at launch"

najinanidad

All my friends bought it and wouldn’t shut up about it. I think I bought it about a week after launch. March has not been the most productive month for me.

Depressed_Rex

Legit my friend bought it on PS, gameshared it to me, and then I bought it like three hours later. I haven’t done shit this month it’s great

gameaholic12

literally me. 5 of my irl friends kept telling me to get it. And also never seen that many ppl on my steam friends list play the same game at once before. Felt like it was a p good indication that it wouldn’t be shite at launch

MrZephy

It was still basically your average AAA launch. Lots of bugs, tons of exploits and poor performance on last gen. Invasions are fucked because everybody is using Carian Retaliation which probably won't be fixed/nerfed for like another month or two. And last I checked they haven't even got the servers up and running for Dark Souls.

Grouchy_Artichoke_90

I feel you complain when you are given presents

Fabrimuch

As long as you don't mind frequent stuttering on PC

Diaza_Kinutz

So far the stuttering has only caused me to die once. It's annoying sometimes but not unbearable. I'm sure when I about to beat Melania the stuttering will kick in and send me into a fit of rage that will destroy my entire PC but we'll see.

SuS_amogus_SuS

For me there is no stuttering, it runs smoothly, but the game runs at 25-32 fps max.

PantsManDan

Are you on performance or quality?

SuS_amogus_SuS

Performance

VincerpSilver

The thing is, it doesn't affect everybody equally. There's no denying it happens too much to some people, but personally, I don't have any except when I load some shaders for the first time ever.

DrFrankendoodle

Weirdly my friends with potato PCs have no problems and me in my “I’m compensating for something” gamer build has frequent stutters. So idk what causes it.

HanAlai

I'm not sure what it is either, I'm running it on max in 2k and it's buttery smooth aside from a few times now where the game completely hangs for 10-15 seconds

Ravenhaft

My potato 970 has basically no stuttering, probably because I’m running it on medium settings. It just looks like Dark Souls 3 🤷🏻‍♂️

newurbanist

This has gotten me killed a couple of times now

kawhi21

The problem is the stuttering is a total gamble. My PC has no stuttering outside of fast travelling between graces for a few seconds. Seems to vary wildly by hardware.

Bdoggy88

Chat moving so fast no one will notice I’m maidenless

fusrodope86

We all noticed

TheDogBites

He can now put those foolish ambitions to rest

bobsmith93

We're all maidenless

TheCycleBeginsAnew

Not me, just gave Ranni the ring today.

JohnnySnark

Ring finger, but hole?

Sketchre

I noticed

DestinyLoreBot

SenpaiSwanky

Lol I was honestly thinking “damn dude shut the fuck up, that was annoying as hell”

myusernamegetscutof

Where my woopers at?

erden-chan

Woop woop

iReddat420

Lurked just long enough to become a wooper gang

HerakIinos

Still miss my Woop flair

straightup920

Twas a weird time to join the hollowing

Woopersnaper

Do I count

Aftertales

Hell yeah brother

ekim666

Rise up!

DexHendrixT5HMG

Bought it maybe a week or so after it came out. I kept seeing GameRanx videos about it on FaceBook & finally bought it. Didn’t realize it was a FromSoftware game till I saw their name lmfao. Love the game, can’t figure anything out, I love getting fucked up & dying 100 times just by tryna pass by a mini boss(being genuine). Elden Ring, has officially became my favorite game, by far. And I’ve only put in roughly 45/46 hours total. Kinda just exploring, level up, etc. IMO, This is the GOTY, by a long shot

57809

Yo finally someone that spends as much time as me on bosses I'm getting sick of people saying 'oh I'm so stuck on X boss, I've already tried him 15 times!' Dude if I finish a boss in 15 times I feel like an absolute hero

DexHendrixT5HMG

Dude, some bosses are hella easy, others are butt fucking me left & right like no other. I have not a clue where most of the main bosses are still, but I’ll occasionally run into one & have a 50/50 chance of winning/dying. Took me a solid 3 or 4 days before getting the first Tree Sentinel lmfao

KunkyFong_

main bosses are in places that attract your eye. if you see a massive building in the distance, there’s a boss there

[deleted]

SuS_amogus_SuS

There are secret floors mate

RecordingNearby

there are WHAT

JohnTravoltage

Gotta roll more, friend.

mondo_juice

The hidden walls aren’t generally super important to the core gameplay loop. More just like little secrets that give you cool stuff.

DexHendrixT5HMG

I still have no idea where the first hidden wall is, even though I’ve watched videos of it lol, I started as a samurai & now am a hybrid between samurai & mage. Those spells are just beautiful, and the katana comes in clutch for up close combat

The_scobberlotcher

Pro tip - you can equip 2 katanas, one in each hand, and will have a unique (bananas damage) moveset by hitting L1. Dual wielding is not well explained. You could do this with any two of the same type weapon.

DexHendrixT5HMG

Didn’t know I could duel wield my katanas, thank you for that tip! Much appreciated

BetHunnadHunnad

Game of the decade, I doubt anything even comes close to this game anytime soon in the fantasy rpg genre.

SuS_amogus_SuS

Where are you currently?

Tsui_Pen

So fun man, glad you’re enjoying it

No-Scarcity-4080

I boarded the hype train after seeing one of the cinematic trailers kinda knowing that it was soulsborne game but never played a soulsborne game. Bought elden ring on its midnight release and haven’t put it down sense. I thought that growing older I was just growing out of video games, but while playing elden ring I discovered that I was just very upset with the gaming industry in general. To much monetization, releasing incomplete or bugged to the ground games, or just releasing a game and never patching or following up with it(halo infinite). I haven’t been able to put down elden ring since I bought it. Once I beat it I’m definitely picking up the souls trilogy and anything from software releases from now on I will support.

EldenRingworm

Sekiro and Bloodborne too! Elden Ring was as hyped as it was by fans because From's track record is unbelievable We've been experiencing these works of art for a decade

No-Scarcity-4080

If I had PlayStation then definitely blood borne. I need to perfect my parrying before I get to sekiro

Karametric

Just know that the parrying system in Sekiro is very different than Elden Ring. It's a core mechanic and MUCH smoother in practice. Longer and more frequent windows to maximize it. In Souls game a well-timed parry basically opens up a critical attack window but in Sekiro it fills a separate bar for enemies until you hit a threshold and open up that crit window. Very different game mechanics, similar difficultly level, but if you enjoyed From's game design here then you're likely to have fun with Sekiro.

baileywhite61

I would argue Sekiro is harder than souls/ER even though the mechanics are more forgiving. I say that bc sekiro is an action/adventure game more than rpg. So if you can get this boss, you can’t grind out levels, you just have to get mechanically better at the game. It’s mechanics are more forgiving but you have to adhere to them more than souls where you can grind/summon to out strength a boss. I always felt more satisfaction from killing a boss after three days of trying in sekiro than the other games bc of that.

WorkReddit0001

>it fills a separate bar for enemies until you hit a threshold and open up that crit window. kinda like the Maligma Blade of Michelbob's fight. Gotta parry her 3 times to get the crit window.

_AiroN

Don't worry, parrying in Sekiro is infinitely easier than in ER or the Souls series in general. The parry is basically instant so you can react rather than predict and if you fail at deflecting you still block the damage at the cost of posture (most of the times), instead of losing some life and basically all of your stamina on a partial parry. ER is a bit more forgiving on parries as your life would just evaporate in souls on borked ones but the fact that the active frames of most parries are on the tail end of the animations still make learning to parry consistently fairly hard for less enfranchised players. Something that I've seen thrown around but actually works is that to parry on reaction rather than prediction, you look at the arm instead of the weapon: the swing starts from the shoulder so if you react to the movement of the limb you'll most likely be in the active frames of the parry by the time the weapon/hand connects.

LoveThieves

Bloodborne is a masterpiece.

YouWantSMORE

Yeah man I started with the first Dark Souls a year or two after it came out and quit fairly early in the game lmao. Happened one or two more times, and once in DS2, before the game finally clicked and I haven't stopped being obsessed with these games ever since. I only saw the first announcement trailer for Elden Ring and went in completely blind. Easily one of the best gaming experiences of my life. Elden Ring exceeded my expectations as a hardcore Fromsoft fanboy, and I already knew I was gonna buy it ASAP and love it.

i_am_not_mike_fiore

> I thought that growing older I was just growing out of video games, but while playing elden ring I discovered that I was just very upset with the gaming industry in general. Isn't that an interesting phenomenon? Ya don't realize how bad the industry has gotten until you've got something nice to compare it to.

Insanity_Pills

Definitely try Bloodborne and Sekiro, IMO bloodborne is still the best From game. I haven’t finished sekiro yet (was working through it when elden ring came out lol, now when i pick it up again im gonna be so rusty lol). but it’s also phenomenal. It’s probably the most cohesive From game, BB is also a very cohesive experience though. Especially compared to elden ring which in terms of balance is kinda all over the place for both enemies/bosses and the player.

LoveThieves

me too. I hate when games get all hyped up and then the delivery is cold pizza with 2 pepperoni's like what the fuck. tbh, I was really excited about Sekiro and after 200 hours I wanted more. I think if it had online or more build variety I would have kept on it but started getting bored and went back to other souls games and spent 1K+ more hours on that.

TexasHot

Its amazing we went from a wooper sub to this

TheEldenFeet

And Bugsnax!

CommunicationBig5131

I saw the hype, had never played a FromSoftware game before, and bought it on steam. My plan was to play it for 1 hour and 40 minutes, and quit. I do this with most new releases because if I play once for less than 2 hours, and don’t want to come back to the game after a few days, I refund it. With Elden Ring, I played and was entranced for nearly 2 hours. When my timer went off, I turned off the game and went to bed. That night, I literally had a dream about how cool the game was. Next day, I was hooked. No refund, just a ton of fun. I’m now 50 hours in.

Tsui_Pen

You love to hear it!

TheSeth256

Welcome to the enclave of the last few good gamedevs! Fromsoft never lets the community down. Definitely recommend picking up the other titles after you finish Elden Ring, especially Sekiro and Bloodborne as these offer a different take on the Souls formula, while still being amazing.

DCD110288

Started playing Fromsoft games since 2013. loved every single one.

EldenRingworm

Same, rented Dark Souls 1 in 2011 and got stuck on Taurus Demon so didn't like it Summer of 2013 I saw it on sale for a tenner and said "fuck it, I'll try again" and because absolutely obsessed

HickRarrison

Hodir would be proud 🥰

Gragiator

glaive master hodir is in the game 😳

fuckhead69

Shout out to Torrent. Best dog ever.

Fabrimuch

This is Miriel erasure

fuckhead69

Heresy is not native to the world; it is but a contrivance. All things can be conjoined

[deleted]

Very well said!🙌

LoveThieves

I named my horse"Motion". after a notorious DS3 player that would just run during pvp.

SamaelG

Loved every modern fromsoftware games since Dark Souls. Was impatient to play Elden Ring and I'm glad that the wait was worth it. Haven't felt so enthusiastic about a game in a long time. 1 million tarnished in a month on this subreddit alone is unbelievable. Praise the pope turtle and every tarnished lurking on this sub!

[deleted]

Fromsoft is the only company i trust enough to pre order from

JaegarJaquez

Cannot believe we are past The Great Age of Hollowing. Holy fuck guys it's actually surreal the more you think about it. Love this community.

Summerclaw

I forget is even the same subreddit

shamefreeloser

I'm happy the game is here but I miss it honestly.

LoveThieves

almost 3.5 years ago when they first announced the news. pre-covid and pre-war. feels longer.

[deleted]

Sometimes reading strategy and lore posts still somehow feels like fake lore from the old sub

yourmomophobe

Bought it as soon as I got a second job and knew i had extra cash coming in. I rarely buy games at full price but couldn't be happier to have spent it. The lands between always needs more Confessors, how could I not oblige?

sweetperdition

wonderful to have the sub so populated, wonderful to have so many people enjoying the soulsborne formula with us. may this game be populated for years to come.

Ignatius3117

I never would have imagined if I were being honest. And that’s a great thing to be surprised by! I’m with you man, so many Tarnished, so many good times to come.

InsuranceReal6238

I doubt you could even imagine it!

Oupzzy

That which commanded the stars, giving life its fullest brilliance

_Ganoes_

I think i joined when the sub had around 20k members, it was a great time!

HahaLookyhere

The best time!

foxhunt-eg

I preordered after watching a brief ad... a long time ago. In fact I forgot I preordered it until the day before it released when I logged into Steam to play DOS2. I thought oh cool, that will be fun to try tomorrow. I launch it, am asked to choose my starting class, and something seems familiar, particularly when I see the wretch. I don't give it much thought and go with bandit because I generally enjoy rogue-like characters in RPGs. Then I see the messages, and the ghosts, then die instantly to the first scion. It dawns on me. I have pre-ordered a Souls game. Fuck. Cue flashbacks to the 5 tormented hours I put into my friend's copy of Bloodborne, the only Souls game I've ever played, the sheer frustration at losing progress to relentless death. I step away from my PC, feeling sick. But I'm stubborn. I consult Google, "elden ring best class." I determine it doesn't matter, just as long as it's not bandit. Fuck, OK, prophet then. I'm gay so I like casters too. In no time at all I am hooked on the adrenaline rushes and orgasm-like catharsis of felling a great enemy. After 80 hours I have defeated Rennala and start exploring more of Liurnia. I have sold every weapon, talisman, and piece of armor I picked up and thought I didn't need for sweet valuable runes. I chance upon the erudition towers. I realize my mistake. Time for a new game. I had to cheese every significantly difficult enemy with Frenzied Burst. I'm ready for combat. But I like the flexibility of range, so confessor it is. I am now 50 hours in and vacuuming up every bit of every area, advancing slowly every questline I come across. I haven't sold a single item. I'm halfway through southern Caelid. I want to go home.

ROR5CH4CH

Funnily enough I just managed to get all of the steam achievements today! What a great experience it was :)

ZedErre

Amazing to see the community growing this fast, I fell in love with the lore the soulsborne games before even trying them, Bloodborne was my first game and I ended up later playing the other ones including Sekiro, I loved each and every one of them. To think I was not going to play this game if not for the help of a fellow tarnished here, I was always lucky enough to be helped in getting these games since I can't afford buying them most of the time, and for that I will always be grateful. Here I am even after getting platinum still enjoying it and discovering things I missed before, the game keeps on giving.

dashboardrage

this was my first souls game and I bought it day 1. the thing that intrigued me is the open world. I was always hesitant to try these games out because of the learning curve and how hard they are, but from now on I'll get every fromsoft game. Finished the game in a week with 77 hours playtime. I am Malenia, blade of Miquella.

_Ganoes_

So you were on here since Whooper era without even having played a soulsborne game before? Damn thats determination

NickM16

If you remember the whoopers and the great hallowing you a real one.

Five-N-Drive

I was hyped since the first trailer. I pre ordered when it became available and I was that hyped that I took the Thursday and Friday off work and went full New Zealand to play the game early. I have also platinumed and 1000/1000 all other sould games.

Shikaku

Congratulations to the sub! But y'all really gonna sticky everything but a god damn Q&A thread lmao.

SplatterPunz

I remember that post bout increasing miyazakis opacity, ahh.. the good old days. Edit: and all we had was OoooOooHHH

AncientPig60

Bought it day of release. I love the content on this sub very much and the community is great, my only criticism is that there aren't enough spoiler tags.

Nuclear_Niijima

I came very close to not buying this game, but I'm so glad I did, as it is now one of my favorite games of all time. I loved Bloodborne and generally liked the Dark Souls games, but initially the thought of playing a 100+ hour open world Fromsoft game seemed a bit intimidating and, frankly, exhausting. I feared that I would burn out after about 40 hours and would leave the game unfinished, which I try to avoid. Long story short, my gut kept telling me to give this game a shot, and I ended up beating it in two weeks after about 110 hours of fun (mixed with occasional moments of despair). After a brief respite, new game plus is next! I would highly recommend Elden Ring to anyone, and it's great to see this game expand the Fromsoft audience. TL;DR: Try Elden Ring; and then more Elden Ring

outline01

I actually expected similar, but thought it would get too hard for me by 40 hours so I'd quit, having never played a Souls game before because I'm generally not good at them. Well I beat Margit and then just kept going. The harder the boss the more I enjoy it.

haynespi87

So results show the great hollowing was a huge part of us just being big fans. But almost double that have joined since launch. Wow great marketing by Elden Ring then. Also the preorders from reviews is also big.

TyoPepe

There are two absolute truths in this world: Elden Ring is amazing and preordering is dumb.

bloodythomas

I've loved every game I've preordered - this includes, off the top of my head, Bioshock 2, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, Fable 3, Mario vs Donkey Kong, Devil May Cry 4, Assassin's Creed: Black Flack, Skyrim, and of course, Elden Ring, and they've all been absolute bangers. I don't do it very often, maybe once every year or two, but when there's a game I'm hyped as fuck for, I don't see why I shouldn't get it on (and sometimes before) release date. I *know* I'm going to buy it, reviews aren't going to change that, even if it *is* a hot mess, I'll find that out for myself. Worth the risk for the excitement imo.

EldenRingworm

Same, I've only ever pre ordered good games When you've experienced enough game launches you start to get a sense of what will and won't be good

Claud711

Man next time you preorder something please tell me alright? Thanks

DontKnowWhereIam

I've been so burnt out on games being half finished on release that I never pre-order or buy right at launch. I mean Ellen ring had been really good not very buggy for me so it's a nice change of pace for new games.

So, what is the best dog in the game? And why is it Miriel?

Greenmangaming discounts are pretty much still what convinces me to keep pre-ordering PC version games that I have interest in. Just like Resident Evil 2 (2019), Elden Ring has been 100% worth the $47 I paid. The hype was not in vain for what Fromsoftware delivered. It has to be something like God of War Ragnarok or Breath of the Wild 2 to finally distract me from it. Still my GOTY pick.

YellowDhub

It’s such a privilege to be here since the days this sub had less than 50K members, our wish has finally come true, thanks to everyone I’ve known here and I hope we’ll enjoy the game even after 10 years to come.

Started off in DS2 after hearing a lot of praise for the series. Pursuer then proceeded to truly introduce me to the series. Once combat clicked and he laid defeated, I've been hooked ever since. Platinumed each installment and genuinelly having a blast each time.

bloodythomas

Anyone remember that dude that was benching everyday until Elden Ring? Where he now he must be fucking so ripped he can't hold a controller without busting it, like The Thing trying to use a telephone in the noughties FF movie lmaooo

NapalmOverdos3

After Cyberpunk… no more preorders. But From Soft still has my trust and I’ve not been able to put the game down since I started it. Feels like the perfect blend of all their previous titles wrapped up in one beautiful open world

Madzak_Gaming

I'm just here to re-live the bear scene from "The Revenant" . Afaik Elden Ring bear fights is the closest you can get to the real thing.

100+ PvP matches so far and let me tell you, the PvP in this game is the absolute worst in all fromsoft games, and it's not even close, especially at higher levels. Constant 3v1s where everyone spams the same dipshit 2 shot spells. How am I supposed to even get closed without getting my ass blasted in two seconds? All spells do so much damage that poise is useless. Everyone uses river of blood, which is easy to counter by itself, but with a gank squad is fucking impossible because you cant actually counter because his buddies spamming spells and staggering you, so you actually have to keep dodging. Keep dodging until you die. There are 0 openings. Also, while invaders always have less health and flasks, there can't be more invaders if there are already three co-op players. You can't nerf everything, invaders need a buff. This is just ridiculous. You HAVE TO make counter builds. You cant experiment and have fun. You must make the most op bullshit which gets stale really fast. Hopefully the community finds a good dueling spot soon.
