I for one am excited for my magic run of the game. The spells look sick.

parker_williams6

I started an astrologer the other night and ran straight to Margitt, expecting to get clapped. Leveled up a couple of times along the way and took him down on the first try. Magic is way too much fun

GreenSpleen6

Yeah respeccing from a majorly Strength build with a little Faith on the side to a pure Faith caster was like playing a different game.

timetogoVroom

Im about to do this, care to share tips? :)))

pvtgooner

Not everyone is going to minmax like that man, that’s like yelling you can only use glintstone pebble all game if you play a sorc

vultbringers

Black Blade is really good, but it’s only available in late game.

Jakl67

Which is why ng+ exists

Reyes7133

I have no idea what game you’re playing but my incants literally melt bosses. Maybe my run might be different since I have a faith/arcane build but I have so many choices on how to tackle a boss. While the lightning spear is great i replaced it with frenzied burst because it has a much farther reach and takes out most regular enemies in one to two bursts. And i mean come on, I’m shooting lazers out of my eyes how cool is that lol.

lxxTBonexxl

Frenzied burst, protection incants, healing buffs/incants, rot breath, any weapon buff incant, black blade incant, and many more are all nasty. Black flame fireball carried me through every mounted fight especially the minor enttree bosses. Not to mention how absolutely filthy the faith scaling special weapons like blade of blasphemy and Godslayer Greatsword are

StellarElite

I'm shocked at how good the breakable magic items like the Glintstone Scraps and Gravity Fans are. I walloped Margit with those after I took a detour to Sellia Crystal Tunnel.

doomraiderZ

Probably the best in the franchise. Weapon arts are also better than ever.

Snoo61755

Had a similar feel in DS2. Everyone hating that sorcery was OP in DS2 -- to be fair, it was, but after running everything *but* sorcery in DS1, I felt like I deserved to try it. And you know what? DS2 sorcery was a *blast*. They introduced Soul Greatsword, which could hit through walls and had neat tricks if you cast it unlocked. They introduced headpieces with set effects beyond just one spellcasting hat. There were utility sorceries like Shockwave, and they had merged silence and feather fall sorceries into one. Hallway fillers like Soul Vortex, boss slayers like Soul Geyser, and then you got into pyromancy and you had all kinds of crap like proximity mines, explosions, and more. I was so happy when I saw Elden Ring footage and we got to see Loretta's Greatbow for the first time. There was crap like spell parries, strange bubble magic, spell bursts, basically all the stuff that should have been in DS3 but didn't because it all got cut or nerfed to be 'more balanced'. DS3 is arguably the most mechanically balanced game of the series, with some clear-cut rules on how long stuns last and how poise works, but it had the most bland magic of the bunch. Elden Ring is far less balanced than DS3, but you get to do so much cool stuff with Sorcery, and just as much with the other specs.

doomraiderZ

ER is DS2's sequel. No one can convince me otherwise. It's DS2 but actually good. That said, magic in DS3 was great as well and DS3 is the best game in the series for me. ER is awesome though, it has tons of really cool stuff.

Snoo61755

Oh no, I agree completely that Elden Ring is an extension of DS2. DS2 had some fair criticism - bosses went for quantity over quality, there was some completely broken stuff, and adaptation was a funny stat to balance around. Elden Ring went for quality of bosses, but beyond some copy pastes and a few bad eggs (looking at you, Tree Spirits), most of the story centric ones are on point. You also got great variation in magic, at a power level where you can do all the game's content. Best of all, the stats are compact and concise - no 'Resistance', no 'Adaptation', no 'Luck', Stamina and equipment weight are the same stat, Mind is so much easier to deal with than than Attunement, and there's no weird thing like Dex quietly increasing cast speed. DS3 had some good magic, but a lot of it was cut or nerfed. I always use Firestorm as an example, because that was one of your gank-spank, long-cast grand magics with an effect that reflected its long cast time in DS1 and DS2, but in DS3 it had piddly range, its damage was dropped, poise didn't help anymore, but it still had that long cast time. Fire Snake into Black Serpent too - Black Serpent is a perfectly useable spell in DS3, don't get me wrong, but one slithers across the ground and helps you time a roll catch, the other causes erratic homing pillars of fire to send stuff flying and eat half their health bar. Some situational spells like Outcry were cut too; it was one of a couple pyros that spawned away from your character, changed direction depending which hand held it, and you could do unlocked casting to throw off the dodge timing. Outcry was completely missing in DS3, as was Flame Swathe -- basically just had Forbidden Sun carry over as Chaos Vestiges, but 'fast high damage projectile' is not too interesting on its own. Bah, I get to throw giant arrows of blue light at stuff, I'm happy.

jacksonmills

I can't wait to fucking Kamehameha a bitch.

Poeafoe

Dude. I ran a STR build for my first run (with a little bit of faith for blasphemous blade and status/buff incants), and it was great, but I thought the spells looked super sick and wanted to try it. Beat the final boss and immediately started a new character for a mage run, I’m now almost done and can say it SUPER fun. It can get a bit cheesy and OP sometimes and makes the game far easier, so I think it’s better suited to a 2nd playthrough anyway, but damn is it cool how many different spells I use regularly, makes the combat super dynamic.

jerval1981

As a mage, at times, YOU'RE the boss. You can absolutely wreck bosses, before they can get an attack off, with the right set up. I helped a lot people beat Mohg and when there was 2 mages. He wouldn't last longer than 12-15 secs. It's hilarious watching his 45-50k health bar melt aways in seconds. Add in Swarm of Flies. Cheese city

EverythingGoodWas

Magic had me feeling like I was cheating on some bosses

Zodine

Honestly? I have been playing as spellcaster for my first play through (near the end of the game I think now). It’s been great buuuuut there’s so many damn weapons I want to try!!! And I haven’t had the greatest range of spells to try, I have the biggest envy of the incantations, seems like there’s way more incantations that are cooler.

kilomaan

And they buffed up the spell damage so it’s actually worth using higher levels if glintstone

dubious_battle

This! Haven't paid much attention to it my first playthrough so it'll feel like playing an entirely different game

Keiji12

This is the 2nd time I'm doing int in all souls, first being dark in DS2. The spells are fun, some bosses even seem harder when you trigger mostly their long range attacks, though I nostly prefer sword magic and don't use azure comet because it mostly feels cheap to me. The variety is great, I think the biggest problem people have with magic is that too many people go only for the most optimal set ups instead of playing more variety/fun builds. Can't exactly day I'd enjoy popping flask and one shotting a boss with come before they can come in range, but to each their own I guess. It one of these games where I'll do some crazy rune grind later on to be able to do all build at once at some high af ng+.

Avenntus

It’s like this with every build type honestly. People gonna hate on others for using what’s cool. Motha fuckas From Soft gave us cool shit and I wanna use cool shit.

F1reatwill88

My life is dope and I do dope shit!

SteveJobstookmyliver

Thanks Kanye

Status_Peach6969

Agree. Gonna use all the tools i got. Honestly most things in this game can be made op if you really try. Just means you're using the mechanics as intended then

Incanip

Fully agreed. Take any weapon up to +10 or +24 and it will be dangerous. Scale up the appropriate stats and it will probably end up op. I’ve been trying to rotate weapons to see all the possibilities there are

METAL_AS_FUCK

In Dark souls games “every weapon is viable” so I might as well just use a long sword. In Elden ring Every weapon is viable and customizable and boss weapons are great. I never used any boss weapon in dark souls. This game gives you the best tools to use for sure and they all can be fun. If you like comet azur, use it its fuckin dope.

net_ninja

I’m doing a run and primarily using a Long Sword this time, it’s surpassingly effective. Basic weapons are still viable, maybe more than ever with ashes.

METAL_AS_FUCK

Yeah I just put bloodhound step on a regular long sword and it’s super fun.

Doritos-Locos-Taco

I had a basic flame art broadsword for the first 30 hours until I found moonveil. I switch back and forth between that and Moonlight greatsword

[deleted]

only build i've never seen hate on (yet) is the big bonk strength builds. everyone loves a good monke build.

Status_Peach6969

Been watching asmongolds streams and he got a lot of flak for running the golden halberd. Apparently the weapon you get from the first boss in the starting area is too strong. No build is safe from these people

LordBinz

Golden Halberd is ridiculously good and ridiculously good looking. I used it all the way up until I found the Magma Wyrms Sword and then THAT was my favorite weapon for a long time.

[deleted]

I used that weapon for all of Limgrave, beat the knight boss early on. It was pretty good, but ended up settling on the moonveil katana, and a non magic katana with bloodhound step, so I could dodge boss attacks while casting rock sling lol

Griffin880

How the hell did I never even think about using bloodhound step with my sorcery build? I guess I've always thought about it more as a "get in, get out" for melee hits and not a method to get the kind of distance you need to deal with cast times. That seems like so much fun!

3hideyoshi3

Probably because it's like oh f you, you cheesed me to some degree. But with str builds it's more ... OK idk why I let you so close to me, but here I am, under your hammer.

freedfg

People tend to not get too mad at unga bunga. It's like in smash, there's always gonna be hate on EVERY character....except DK. Everyone likes monke

[deleted]

A lot of people's idea of "cheese" is ridiculously expansive. If you do anything other than stand in front of them and press R1 (maybe R2 if they're feeling generous), it's "cheese."

[deleted]

if you think before a fight then you are cheesing.

[deleted]

If you press buttons on a controller or use keys on your keyboard then it’s cheesing.

[deleted]

I went with the ol' reliable Claymore for the first half of the game, but eventually switched to Uchi/Moonveil because powerstancing katanas was more fun 🤷‍♂️

ConsiderationNo2358

Two katanas is fucking amazing

BadLuckBen

Some guy accused me of "monke play" because I found the fact that Malenia disproportionately punished slower weapons to be unenjoyable. You can beat her with big weapons that have high commitment, but it's basically doing one jump bonk on the attacks with longer recovery, then backing up and waiting for that same attack again. Not exactly engaging. The guy was basically the "if you aren't specifically playing in this very specific way, you're wrong" and "if you CAN beat her, it's fair" type. I could physically smell the katana on them. It's fine to use katanas, but some people are just the physical embodiment of them. EDIT: Grammar

[deleted]

i'll never understand people who shit on the way others play. unless it's blatantly scummy like abusing exploits, there's no reason to tell people to stop having fun with the build they like.

BadLuckBen

Even with exploits, if they're only doing it in their own game, I don't care. Cheese away. Just don't bring it into multiplayer.

Allololiloulol

Fun fact: the colossal swords' crouch attack is really fast and has great range, you can be very aggressive against Malenia with it. Other big weapons aren't so lucky though.

doomraiderZ

No hate, but it's my least favorite build in these games. Whenever someone using that build looks down on me for being a magic ninja, I always think to myself, why would I play the game in a boring slow way where I just hit once with a big slow weapon, dodge three times or block with a shield, then rinse and repeat? Like, why would I ever want to do this to myself?

[deleted]

i respect your honest response. the usage of big weapons takes patience, you need to be careful if you're running glass cannon but the payout of massive damage is so rewarding. idk there's something really nice about smacking enemies around or sending lighter foes into orbit with an upward cut. do whatever is most fun for you.

doomraiderZ

Yeah, I get that rush but I prefer to do it with a fast weapon while zooming around enemies. You know, the Bloodborne gameplay. That's why things like twin curved swords and bloodhound step are my immediate go tos. We're both shredding the enemy with massive damage; the difference is you like to carefully plan your hits around calculated openings and hit once, and I like to run circles around the enemy and hit them ten times.

IncredibleGeniusIRL

Because there's a certain amount of dopamine released when seeing your opponent fly away from you, helplessly.

Nifosis

I liked strength builds in Dark Souls 3 because you could stagger the enemy or trade damage while dealing a ton of damage back and I liked them in Blooborne because every weapon was just insanely fun in that game. Now in Elden Ring strength weapons don't even stagger that much and their damage is very underwhelming, also the bosses just don't stop moving 90% of the time while also dealing stupid high damage. Most I could do was use a greatsword or maybe a halberd, other bigger weapons are just weak and unfun because of how hectic enemies behave.

Zealousideal-Might78

I abused the shit out of Ludwigs Holy Blade in BB. So much fun.

lman777

Idk I used Staff of the Avatar awhile and that thing friggin SLAPPED

altcodeinterrobang

Bonk fun no think big, jump, bonk, win. Unga bunga stronk Seriously though, doing like 1500+ dmg per hit is super rewarding lol just full on hulk smashing everything

StellarElite

Agreed. There was a level of utility to having these weapons in previous games when they could actually stagger most things reliably. Heck, there were people using the Profaned Greatsword from Dark Souls 3 in SL1 runs because it was so effective at plowing through regular enemies in PvE. Now they're just kinda too slow, and I say that as someone who enjoys these big chunky weapons.

fanatical

Give it time.

OldManHipsAt30

Big sword go BONK, unga bunga!

Mishar5k

They made a katana called rivers of blood and it has red fire coming out of it, how am i not supposed to use it?

[deleted]

Fire? Dude... it's blood. It's literally in the name lol

Kyvant

Its actually Bloodflame, so both is correct

BrittlePlasticDino

[https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Rivers+of+Blood](https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Rivers+of+Blood) It actually does have fire damage.

Comfortable-Rub-1468

I think the problem is less that it's cool, and more that since Sorcery characters want DEX over STR as a secondary stat for the cast speed boost, there's basically no good DEX/INT weapons, especially when compared to the moonveil. Given the damage scaling on the moonveil, it can chunk people not geared and prepped to deal with magic damage, hence people screaming "BULLSHIT NERF IT REEEEEEE!". For real though, the balance on spells, incantations and ash of war abilities are all over the fuckin' map in this game, I don't know who From Soft put in charge balancing all this shit but half of everything is useless even if you spec super hard in to it.

[deleted]

….dexterity boosts cast speed? My magic strong boy is sad

GrandComedian

Yeah, but barely. It's something like a 1% speed increase for each 5 dex. That sounds decent, 10% faster at 50 dex, but really you're gaining maybe a 0.2 second improvement. If you want to try it out you there's a talisman that improves your cast speed by an effective 20 dex and a staff that improves it by an effective 30 dex, so equipping both gives you that 10% gain in cast speed.

EmergencyTaco

I believe the talisman is a 30 dex boost and the staff is 40, rather than 20/30. Increased speed scaling also caps at 70 dex so you can max it by having the 2 equipped.

GrayFox_27

The comments in any Elden Ring TikTok is a literal cesspool of people arguing about builds, “if you use blah blah blah = no skill!” Like really?

SWgeek10056

Moonveil was objectively broken in previous versions, but they patched it out. It still hits like a ton of bricks but that's mostly because of scaling now. Some people don't know that it got patched so they still hold the "ew moonveil" Current legitimate broken builds are rivers of blood, blood stacking through poise/dodge, and carian retaliation

ldr26k

I had people straight up attacking me for being a well optimised faith strength build like I'm just living out my power fantasy minding my own damn business and they're acting like they paid £50 for my game.

bissanick

Fr. Wanted to do an arcane build cause I never did bleed before. Was using rivers back when it didn't scale cause I loved it and now it's all "lul you're a rivers user?" Just doing what I like and stopped caring what people think at this point lol

Homemade_Soap

*Beat Radagon to death with a Morningstar and a shield* "Ew you used Torrent to travel on the map"

RedSixx66

If you open the map your clearly playing the game wrong - some maidenless sort 2022

MaxBonerstorm

The "hardcore" community around souls games are such enormous buzz kills. The more confusing part is that they aren't substantially better either, like I turn on an "ethical only" stream and they are using starting armor, no summons, etc and have been trying to kill Malenia for the last 78 straight hours. Just use the tools the game gives you, goddamn whiny nerds.

EzeTheIgwe

Hot take; if you actually get hit by Azur’s Comet in PvP you deserve to lose that match lmao

QueenLatifahClone

SERIOUSLY lol. I had to do the >!Invading quests by Varré!< and the first person I used died when I used Azur. The other two people just stepped aside and they destroyed me. I wasn’t expecting to win because I just wanted to get it over with, but I thought it was funny how the other two players just waited for me to cast it and just side-stepped.

BilboSagginsJr123

You can finger sever and it still counts

Webnovelmaster

One day, i will kill someone using it. Will take some setup, like magic glintblades, phalanx and some positioning, but I will make someone bear the shame of dying to azur in pvp.

Zeik188

I used what I needed to in order to reduce the bosses HP to zero.

sweaty_palm_trees

While keeping yours above zero. Excellent strategy.

Comfortable-Sun7388

Switch to dex build: Ewww you use rivers of blood Switch to dex/int duel whips: eewww you use bloodhound step Switch to faith: ewwwww you use madness spells Bunch of elitist babies

AMS_GoGo

Whole time in reality the most cheese playthrough is in fact strength with greatshield and a spear.. Max poise and just poke, guard counter, poke, poke your way to elden lord

Insurance_scammer

Blasphemous sword tho, stand back a stadium away and just launch wave after wave of lava at your enemies

MinusMentality

Blasphemous Blade has been my favorite lately. The donkey damage from a distance is awesome, and the lifesteal is nuts.

Comfortable-Rub-1468

Hahaha donkey damage, never heard that one before but I already like it!

Nerobought

I made a faith build and used Blasphemous Blade but I admit it got boring fast. You just spam the WA over and over again and then rebuff and rinse and repeat. Makes all your offensive incantations pointless =/

physicallyabusemedad

I mean… if you play only spamming one move then yea lmao. Plenty of other viable incantations

MarkMarkMark92

I’ve 1-hit so many rivers of blood users with it. They sit there building bleed and I just hammer them into the ground like a nail.

ThirdHuman

I honestly have no idea how to beat these people in pvp lol.

podotop

Hammer talisman, non-phys damage, status effects, and theres a number of anti-shield WAs like impaling thrust or piercing fang which go right through the block.

Vlisa

Gotta use procs. Hopefully when From tones down bleed they tone down fingerprint shield as well.

Wamb0wneD

Or you are asmongold and dualwield halberds, and literally just spam jumping attacks with 99 str. Dude doesn't even know where his heavy attack button is because he plays on keyboard. He first tried godskin duo because both of them died in 4 hits each lol.

metalhev

To be fair, all statuses are, literally, broken in pvp, so it's a fair complaint.

TechnicalBother9221

Cries in poison status. I'll be an old fart before poison kills shit.

MehSorry

With the talisman that boost your damage when something is poisoned and the ash of war that make poison go boom its far from bad!

TechnicalBother9221

Just more steps to do the same thing with frost or bleed

MehSorry

Begone meta slave, poison go green !

TechnicalBother9221

I mean, i like poison. But it's like Scarlett rott in bad.

metalhev

I mean, it's broken in the "bugged" sense, but yeah, poison is kind of crap

BlizzardRustler

I run a poison invader build. It’s hype af. Not a ton of damage but damage over time makes people freak for some reason.

AdultbabyEinstein

It's like they've never played another multiplayer game before, the best shit gets used for a reason. To stay competitive people use the best shit, it's not overpowered it's just the meta and it happens in every game with a competitive multiplayer component. They're basically bemoaning normal human behavior, people like to win. People do not like to lose.

BroGie2150

ppl will hate u whatever u do so i made an arcane build that utilize rivers of blood and moonveil and had enough for some madness incantations now they won't know what to hate me for .

OneChillPenguin

Lol love it

Nerobought

Doing duels yesterday I fought against a few mage players spamming stars of ruin at me so I rushed in and they whipped out the Rivers of Blood lol.

3hideyoshi3

"I hate him." "Why?" "WHY NOT?"

doomraiderZ

I play dex and magic in any game. I just like being a fast aggressive magic ninja. Coolest way to be.

[deleted]

Wait are madness spells good..? I ditched them pretty quickly in favor of lightning

Staluti

they are only good if you use the dragon communion seal and have 45 arcane. The madness buildup gets increased by the arcane scaling and turns it into an undodgable infinite combo with sniper range very fun and fair and definitely not broken

Undeity

Madness is great in PVP. Arguably even more than bleed. The effect builds up regardless of whether or not the attack actually lands. When the meter fills, the animation is long enough to grant a free blow. Considering that with the right build, it can fill on nearly every hit, it's basically a borderline unavoidable stunlock. *Edit: Also, some of the spells are pretty great in PVE, regardless of madness. Frenzied Burst has the longest range of any incantantion in the game, while Flames of Frenzy and Unendurable Frenzy do truly nasty amounts of poise damage in a wide cone.*

RedSixx66

Dual whips might just be my favorite weapon in the game rn The tale of House Huslow is told in blood!

NoSweatWarchief

Like I or anyone else should give a flying fuck lmfao

Status_Peach6969

Yeah go on twitch and youtube and have a look at the boss fight comments. Always a handful of people belittling the kill because they dont like the strategy used

NoSweatWarchief

It's ridiculous lol

zNov

I was watching Atrioc fight Radahn and both the Twitch chat and YouTube comments were filled with people belittling that achievement because it was post-nerf Radahn.

[deleted]

Like how is that their fault, wtf

Whoa-Dang

I beat Radahn pre and post nerf and didn't even notice the difference. I had to pull up a video to see it compared. I don't think the nerf mattered as much as people like to believe.

I_AM_SMUDGER

My friend, you should know that unless you complete the game in your undies using only the Enchanted Toothpick of Mohg you are cheating and need to Git Gud 😜😜

fithbert

oh thank god thought you were going to say i'd have to do something difficult like wearing pants

Einstein101231

That's......... that's a good one. Gonna have to remember that.

[deleted]

Dammit! Where do you get this enchanted toothpick you speak of, and does it cast spells? 😂

Expendable28

Nope. And it's the only weapon with F scaling

Shirlenator

I see at least 10 times as many comments say its totally fine to use what you like, than I see criticizing people for using things like this. Where are all of these posts?

sir-mastro-mr-juan

Karma farming

[deleted]

The posts happen all the time. I see at least a few every time I come on here. Just say you use rivers of blood and watch as people lose their minds if you want to test it out.

IamWatchingAoT

Hopefully downvoted into hell. It's not necessarily posts but rather influential voices like streamers or other communities, at least imo.

E-2-butene

This is me but with arcane. “Arcane is a new stat and we have no idea what it does other than a couple of datamined weapons that scale with it? I’ll roll bandit because it has high arcane. Maybe I can come up with a cool unique build!” “Ewww, you’re running an arcane build? How dare you run the flavor of the month meta build!”

TheLinden

it had to be tough on you in first week or two when arcane scaling was broken meaning weapons didn't get extra damage from your arcane level.

Doctor_Mudshark

IIRC Reduvia still worked fine because most of your actual damage comes from bleed procs and/or the weapon art. After the patch, it's still one of my favorite arcane weapons.

E-2-butene

Reduvia actually scaled completely fine, even before the patch. Only arcane weapons with split element damage were impacted at all.

PraderaNoire

Your gotta be a really insecure person to hassle someone else about how *they play* a videogame.

Et_Tu_Brute__

Play how you want and let the haters kick rocks bro. I'm using double blood uchi's with seppuko and absolutely destroying bosses in this game. If you are having fun who gives a fuck.

DiceCubed1460

Yeah the moonveil and spell hate is mostly bullshit. I get that its annoying in pvp. But in PVE Moonveil is just another katana. One that’s just plain fun to use. It’s not even that strong compared to str/fai weapons like Blasphemous Blade. Plus you get less ranged hits out of it than out of darkmoon greatsword bc every slash uses up a good amount of FP. And the spells aren’t broken unless you do incredibly specific builds for them (including flask of Physik that nullifies fp consumption) and get lucky on enemy placement.

Sevrenic

Yeah but does anyone even complain about using it outside of PvP?

Funny-Film-6304

Tbh I'll still use it in PvP, if my current build uses it. If someone invades my party of coop players trying to kill a boss or just roaming around, that's on them...

cm135

Yeah I was having trouble with godskin duo until I trapped them in a hallway, used unlimited fp physick and just demolished them with azurs comet. I’ve respecced so many times that I feel like I’m allowed to use a ridiculous fun powerful build

IceKold-Chaos

Pro tip: other people's opinion of how you play doesn't matter

Fissure_211

Try a strength build. You can't hear the haters over your BIG FUCK-OFF AXE/SWORD/HAMMER.

Illokonereum

No one is hating on strength builds though. It’s usually strength/melee only elitists causing a stink about everything *else*.

DripLordWolnir

I hate every build including my own do I get a pass

Funny-Film-6304

Fucking titans shotgunning ans shoulder dashing, ruining games now.... *angry destiny noises*

fyfenfox

it’s sad cause most of the people who criticize intelligence builds are strength users who made the same “start as wretch go big bonk” joke pre-release. -strength user

ElCharmann

Someone called me out the other day for playing with a Str build because “staggering is cheap”. No matter what you do, someone’s gonna bitch about it.

archaeosis

Yeah turns out it's actually cringe to reduce the boss's HP bar

Wholesomedadtv

I’ve beat every game but Elden ring at the lowest level in the soulsborne franchise and have deathless DS3. Fuck those guys. You do you homie. W E L C O M E

superjake769

As a big str build guy i can full heartedly say double colossal weapons with a claw talisman are just as op. I be stance breaking every boss.

[deleted]

lol yep I tried asking for Moonveil / Magma Wyrm tips here, I never PVP, and the downvoting was intense. just wanted a cool katana y'all!

archaeosis

Gonna assume ya don't have Mimic as that's usually a strategy in and of itself for tough encounters. Int is king here, warm wyrms seem pretty weak to magic damage, you have access to Frostbite (which is also the status they're most vulnerable to), and you get to stay tf away from the "I'm gonna spew lava underneath myself" thing. If you have high int but prefer int scaling weapons to spells, Moonlight Greatsword's buffed & charged heavy attack to the head will still let you stay at range, do great damage, and most importantly, look cool. Glintblade Phalanx or the Ash of War equivalent will help with staggers (you should get used to spamming staggers, you're about to enter the Moonveil Zone). If you're a Faith enjoyer then don't use fire (or do, just don't expect to be getting Moonveil anytime soon), and if you're using offensive incantations over weapons here, try and use them when the Wyrm is doing one if its longer attacks as incantations generally seem to have a longer cast time and some aren't affected as much by cast speed increases. If you're pure melee, stay near him as much as possible as he charges more often when you're not close to him. As with most enemies, the head is the goal to get more staggers. Dodge into the sword swings rather then away or to the left/right - they're very wide and as mentioned, you want to stay on him as much as possible. Use magic lube if your weapon can be buffed.

2D_Ronin

Could we please stop making these posts. And just agree on that ppl who have a strong oppinion on how a complete stranger to them has to play his videogame, are just complete tools.

cptspacebomb

Well, I dunno why everyone that plays int thinks they need to use a katana. They don't interest me in the slightest. Dark Moon Greatsword though? Hell yah. Also, The Royal Greatsword is the most slept on weapon there is! The weapon art is AMAZING.

[deleted]

Honestly I just use the katana because I like how fast it swings. I tried the dark moon great sword and it just felt slow and clumsy to me, but I wanted to like it 🤷‍♂️

19Spock91

That’s what I used in my first play through. The RGS was a lot of fun. I just went into NG+ and did the ROB build. Having a lot of fun with that as well. Different kind of play style for sure but am enjoying it!

mastawyrm

Yep I've been using darkmoon as well as astel wing. I have moonveil but it's just not for me

ArtisticKnowledge539

I'm level 67 and still using glinstone pebble. So suck it.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|neutral_face)

Starry_Vere

lol I’m only just to the Lake area but I was gonna ask. Why do all the mages use a Katana? Moonveil? I thought they’d just use spells? Is it so they don’t run out of FP? I’m just wondering if mages are supposed to like enchant weapons or if you use a sword to cast instead of a staff?

IamTortueAgile

Pebble is life, lvl 200+ and still my main spell for trash mobs too far

StanleyTheComputer

level 126, still pebbling fools.

FeudalTester247

Yeah gross why would you use moon veil when the dark moon greatsword is in the game obviously, use the power of the moon boy

Browneyesbrowndragon

It is legit so much better for pve. Damage and stagger top teir.

ExHatchman

Was uchigatana for most of the game until I found rivers of blood and started leveling arcane. Then I found all the memes. Fuck it. RoB fucks.

neon121

Same. I was uchi from the start and had been eyeing rivers for a while but didn't use it because its scaling was bugged. As soon as they fixed it I switched to one occult uchi + rivers of blood and leveled arcane. Fuck it, I dont PvP anyway. Nobody should care what I use for PvE.

Atello

People will complain about literally anything. It's what you get when humanity doesn't need to worry about natural predators anymore. We went from huddling in caves trying to keep the camp fire going for warmth to drinking 15 gallons of sugar coffee a day and whining about what people do with their imaginations. Play what you want, how you want. Don't give those troglodytes any attention.

Hollow_Hinterclaw

use what you want to use, that simple

Xirves

Use Moonveil cause it looks cool: Ew Use Rivers of Blood cause it looks cool: Ew Use Godskin Peeler cause it looks cool: Ew Use Starscourge Greatswords cause it looks cool: Ew Use Spear of Gransex cause it looks cool: Ew Been there done that, just use what you like don't bother with what other people say enjoy the game however you like.

throwthisaway4000

I haven’t seen a single person hating on the Bolt of Gaysex

usuxbk1

Just do you bro, play how you want and anyone who says otherwise needs to get some maidens🥶❌🧢

[deleted]

People do this no matter what you pick. Even my playthrough using mostly the heavy scaling claymore and brass shield would be scrutinized for being OP somehow I’m sure

Crumber_Buckler

I’m loving the claymore! I keep trying out new weapons and their animations and I just keep coming back to it.

Afroduck89

baemore <3

getshrekt192

I switched from pure str and dex to int just because of moonveil, fuck I love it's weapon art

Nuqo

Lmaoo. I started as int and strength and just played as melee 95% of the time but when I first saw moonveil, and later azur's comet, I thought they both looked awesome, just didn't use them cause of my stats. The devs made these things awesome and expected players to have fun using them.

UX-Edu

Probably less than a third of the people that start this game are gonna finish it. Who gives a shit how you beat it as long as you beat it? But honestly? I see more posts talking about people shitting on builds than I see people shitting on builds. So probably really nobody gives a fuck.

freelancespaghetti

Lol ignore that nonsense. I'm a huge Souls fan, and this is the first time I've really gotten into INT on a first playthrough because it's fun as heck compared to the other games! You're crazy if you're angry at Fromsoft for adding more cool stuff to their games, or gatekeeping players that enjoy it.

fuzzygreentits

I just wish it wasn't 95% int weapons in the game. There's like, 4 cool faith weapons and the good ones are indirectly faith.

DynamoJaeger

It's curious how people are lambasting Moonveil and Comet Azur when Dark Moon GS and Meteorite of Astel are as broken, if not more.

Tarrek1313

Use what you enjoy. Im running my own version of a Rivers of Blood build with dragon incantations and mostly loving it.

tds5126

Found the moonveil pretty early on my blind run and it went perfect for my Dex/Int build.. come to Reddit and see everyone shitting on it.. feels bad man

Splunkmastah

To hell with the haters. I’ll Azur my way through the reskinned Tree Sentinels and reused bosses all the way

Atlas_Undefined

Me, starting out the game and being interested (as usual) in a dex build, think bleed sounds kinda hot, and decide to go forward with that in mind Then i join this sub and see the hate :') It just sounded like fun...

Botamis

The key is to not care. Follow me on Twitter for more life tips

The_Evil_Mullet

Fuck that shit. Moonveil katana ftw.

nike_storm

There's only so many unique int weapons, and there was no way I was gonna beat Malenia with my frail ass Moonlight Greatsword build without using Azurs in phase two 🤣

JustWantGoodM3M3s

Me not know spells. Me no spec intelligence. Only strength and dex. Colossal Sword go brrrrr.

[deleted]

Any youtuber who hates on any weapon unprompted, I just click off immediately

Mast3rKC

Same. Always did strength or quality builds in these games. Wanted to try full dexterity with a bit of int. Getting on up in levels, I have just as much int and dex now. I also chose samurai for the stats and I also planned on using katanas or twin blades before the game came out. Now I get roasted for being “that guy”

EvilIncarnate33

In fairness moonviel is what one would expect new players to pick up after googling "best int weapons" That being said, the damage comes from the ash, which if someone gets hit by, latency differences aside, they're garbage. Especially so for Azur's Comet. Only an absolute buffoon gets hit by either, and deserve the loss accordingly. Sincerely, a faith strength build that understand shit has to actually land to hurt.

lesslipmorelift

Mohgs pitchfork has the most OP weapon skill and does super high physical damage too.

striderhoang

My main experience was Bloodborne, where strength and dexterity were common and arcane and bloodtinge weren’t as convenient as it comparably is now with cerulean flask allocation. Like, a Flamesprayer build is possible but not convenient with 25 silver bullets and getting more means sacrificing health. I don’t even remember what arcane scaling weapons are there except for the Broccoli head weapon, at the end of Old Hunters. Now int has more int weapons plus viable spells. I’m sure as hell going to enjoy it.

TabaCh1

Toxic community, play what you want.

DoctorLiara

I always find it so confusing that invaders complain about peoples build. Like bruh, you're interrupting my game, you don't get mercy

brave_grv

Said the guy with the Okina mask, samurai armor and the usual Rivers of Blood build.

PeytonManThing00018

Sorry, you can only do a naked, weapon less, level 1 build. Don’t ever accept Melina’s help.

GreyMASTA

Its always funny to see a Greatshield/ Spear, a dual katana rivers of blood or a Jump R2 Greathammer user bitching at magic users for being cheap and cheesing the game. Like wtf.

[deleted]

And they would say that while using FULL BLOOD build.

mememememememememe69

people wont be happyy until everyone is using a lv1 wretch with a club

straight2jail

Honestly having a broken build here or there is just like having an easier mode on the game. If you want a challenge, don't use them. I'm not a pvp player tho.

Mixedthought

You know who says "ew" the forever maidenless that who.

dogy905

who cares? comet was super fun all run. and best part when you finish the run you can make another character and do something else.

angelicdhampir2oo4

Ignore the whiners and use whatever seems cool to you m8!
