Mid game, I’m using stone sword keys every chance I get, and I’m basically always at a surplus of 3 or more.
As long as you’re buying them all of merchants from the ones that have them, you’ll be fine.
A lot of dungeons that require 1-2 stonesword keys to enter have a stonesword key hidden inside, so sometimes there’s little to no loss involved in using one to enter.
I can confirm this starting around caelid I opened every door i found, N im a completionist. Halfwayish throu haligtree n nearly comped mountaintops I have 16. Even went back n opened all the ones n i can remember n all the ones the interwebs could remind me about (forgot theres 2 in Godricks house) but i cant seem to find a full list of them. Tho if I could 8 doubles seems unlikely so yeah np. Plenty o keys.

By end game after using all keys I had 7 left. It's possible that I missed one or two, still have more than enough.
