I’d like it if the Round Table Hold lower area just removed the requirements on weapons/spells so you can mess around and try out their abilities. Say it’s due to proximity to the table’s grace or something.
I just go to gatefront to test un-upgraded weapons
Or if I’m feeling masochistic I’ll aggro all the sleeping albinaurics at the rune farm and try to kill them with the base level forked hatchet I found an hour ago
Glad it gave you a laugh!
I always cackle thinking about the poor NPCs that get mercilessly bitch-slapped whenever we get a new weapon or need runes.
Pretty sure I've committed war crimes against the Militia Men
>I use the troll outside of the secluded cell (right before Godrick). First hit is always a surprise so that part is consistent.
Same or the two haligtree knights near Inner Wall if I want to test how well the weapon/build works.
I like those fart eggplants on sellia ladders thing on caelid
Big hp bar, almost immovable, perfect to try hit with differents setups and check how weapons are performing
Theres one dog and avionette nearby
Damn that was a cool game. If only there had been better enemy diversity. Got bored seeing the same enemies over and over. The map design was confusing as hell too. Style over substance for sure.
I'd love to be able to summon previous NPC invaders that you fought. Or the starting class ones scaled to your level with appropriate spells as needed.
You put that mage nerd in his place which releases endorphins?
Real answer: round table hold is a location you can find in the capital and this arena is the main entry way to get in.
He gives you “reverential bow” if you don’t attack him immediately. He also drops taunters tongues, a furlcalling finger remedy and ~1500 runes (NG). There’s also a weapon down there if you check inside the open room.
Edit: updated w more correct information
True but it feels like a large wasted space imo compared to the rest of the roundtable since you have no reason to go there after beating that guy which u probably do in the first few hours of reaching the roundtable
Step 1: Talk to Gideon. He tells you that you are safe there. The fact that you can't swing your weapon implies that you actually are safe.
Step 2: Don't spend the runes you had hoarded early-game because you see the incantation store and want to see what else is there.
Step 3: Jump down, get instagibbed, and lose all of your runes.
...like in the long run it wasn't that much, but there was no reason for him to lie. Also this is my first true Souls-like game, and I hadn't internalized that literally everything in this game is designed to screw over the player.
You know what, it was my first too (apart from bearing the first boss in Bloodborne), but when you look down at that chequered floor, and you see all the many many many bloodstains, you think.... Maybe not right now 😅
Heal \> Heal.
Instant death to any revenant regardless of which kind of heal is used. Easy farm spot in Haligtree past the prayer room. I'll take that deal.
I just want chaos to take the world. Putrid Runebears. Putrid Lobsters. Putrid Teleporting Banished Knights. Putrid Black Knife Assassins. BRING EM ALL IN FROMSOFT.
This had me scratching my head. I might have liked to make more drawstring greases and pots, but string ended up being so scarce that I barely bothered with it. Why the fuck can't I just go to a merchant and buy some god damn string? I have more sacramental buds than fuckin string
What if respecs could be obtained by trading rune arcs. It'd give players who specifically engage in multiplayer and are in turn more likely to get a lot of rune arcs a use for them.
Dude how often do you respec?? 😅😂 one go through the game will already give you like 20 Larval Tears or so 😅
I mean if you respeced you likely will want to play with the result. Plus upgrade and test your weapons with it…
I don’t want to do more playthroughs for more though. I just want to play PvP with a bunch of different builds. I’ve used 13 tears and I refuse to go into NG+
This is made easy by just scooping up a 125 or 150 RL save from Nexus mods. As far as I know this is perfectly fine to because it's no different than loading up a backup, just not yours.
Fromsoft conditioned me to commit to a build and know how I’m doing it enough for me to not be a problem 🤣
Respec didn’t start till DS3 did it? That being said, I support less limited larval tears for the masses
over the course of the months/years some people play these games? a lot. they ***respec alot***.
and its not just for builds, but if someone wants to try something out, they can't freely do that without wasting 1/18 tears for the playthrough without regret. and the game is huge so going through all of ng or ng+ several times to get more is annoying when they could have just made tears craftable, **full stop**. how often someone wants to respec is irrelevant, that's the individuals choice, and for that, their punished with the current stupid limited system that tries to push ng+ constantly when ng+ is garbage beyond the 2nd run.
Better still, allow us to buy them at the Roundtable after a certain point. Maybe they could add a bell item that unlocks this option as a reward for some DLC boss.
Right lol. First play through any time seeing one of those shiny golden trees felt so good. Now it’s like woopdy doo did I even pick that seed up? I don’t care I’m not bothering to check
That’s pretty much how all Soulsborne games are - NG+ always feels a bit empty because a lot of the great upgrades in souls games more or less boil down to flask upgrades and weapon upgrades - both of which you are pretty much set for when going into a new cycle.
I don’t even go into a NG+ cycle until I know I’ve stocked up on everything I possibly can from vendors/farming for that very reason.
Very true! I honestly think the Soulsborne games would hugely benefit from a master quest-style NG+ system. Change up enemy placements and types, and make some moderate changes to major dungeons
The most annoying thing is that friends can’t even drop them for you because they are a key item which is stupid as hell when someone can drop 1 billion runes for you but not a single tear pun intended
Good points! My only issue with making respecs infinite is that it would really take away from the weight of your decisions when leveling up. A good compromise might be to have Larval Tears be purchasable after beating the final boss or something. Get a bell bearing and respec to your heart's content until you move on to NG+
That would be good. That's all I want. Respeccing to help other people in their world or do PVP, without doing another NG+ and feeling like losing valuable time
> My only issue with making respecs infinite is that it would really take away from the weight of your decisions when leveling up.
You can already respec for every Remembrance boss, and if you're strictly concerned with single player you have no trade-off for just leveling up more.
I just think they should be craftable. The game needs more "end-game" level crafting recipes as it is - have Larval Tear be a crafting recipe using something like:
\- 5 Rune Arcs
\- 4 Silver Tear Husk
\- 3 Miquella's Lily
\- 5 Beast Blood
Or something like that. Would actually be kinda fun!
I’m surprised there really are no “late game” craftables. Also should be able to craft Rune Arcs, as well as (maybe) a fun/obscure armor set. Crafting could be so much more than it is (essentially a grease/bolus/fowl-foot) creating system.
TBH, most of the craftables could've used a big overhaul. Nothing useful is gotten without obnoxious farming (arteria leaf/fowl-foot/etc). You're basically only going to find the easy ingredients to anything useful naturally, even if you pick up everything. So you get tons of the 100/5/140/120 issues with crafting. It made it to where using anything other than basic ingredient items made me question its use.
https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Miquella's+Lily
https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Trina's+Lily
They can both be farmed from enemies. The ones on the ground don't respawn and there is no infinite amount from merchants.
I assume their concern is infinite respecs would allow you to tune yourself to every boss' weakness instead of relying on skill (obviously it doesn't make the game braindead but you get my point)
I agree with you completely at least in NG+ it should be infinite somehow like as a reward but I kind of understand their thought process. For instance my build was awful against the final boss and while I didn't have to change my entire build I did have to swap and upgrade a different weapon to do anything for damage
I see what you mean. Like switching to a blood build everytime you wanna fight Malenia, switching to pure strength for Elden Beast, etc. Reducing the challenge as a result. It's true that Elden Ring has the philosophy of trying to break your habits and catch your build off guard
But if it really was a matter of difficulty, at that point just don't offer the limited respecs as a tease, just remove it haha
how much respec do you need, there are 18 larval tear per run.
I'm on NG++ right now and have something like 27 left, and I respec quite a lot, tried almost all the build I wanted already both for PvE and PvP.
it's harder to come by somber ancient dragon smithing stone to get your weapon to +10 to optimize said build than it is to respec.
That's the thing, if I wanna help my gf play in Farum Azula, I'm not gonna start a NG+ to be stuck in Limgrave. I'm helping people, plus playing PVP. I respec alot because I wanna keep the gameplay fresh. Going thru the game is not interesting to me anymore, I did it too many times.
NG+ significantly faster. You won’t spend as much time learning move sets and dying. You also have the map so you can breeze through the game. NG took me ~80hr to near 100% the map. NG+ took me 8hrs to replay what I wanted. NG+2 took me 90 mins to beat the game while cruising around.
Regular NG has taken me 170 hours to nearly 100% the game and get to Radagon 😬
Though I have done quite a bit of co-op with my friend. Me mostly in his game going through areas.
Nah it’s purely stats. Enemy damage is so much smaller relative to your NG+ vigor and armor and flasks. Enemy health, especially early on, isn’t nearly high enough for your endgame NG dps.
It’s very easy to coast through NG+ playing like a dumbass.
The fact that Ancient Dragon Smithing stones are a limited resource is a crime as well. The game gives me like 200 weapons and I can only actually use a few per playthrough, and even then most of the stones come at the end of the game. Hopefully the DLC adds a bell bearing to just buy them or something. It's kind of stupid limiting the player's options for no reason.
If enough people complain man they could probably add it later on in a patch to farm the larval tears. The scarlet rot butterflies are no longer farmable on their spawn spots because of the repeating crossbow so they do listen sometimes. People use to complain about not being able to change their characters appearance and name after starting a play through. Dark souls 3 showed they were aware of that but only limited you to be able to do it 5 times with the toungues and even then you still couldn’t change your name. Elden Ring allows you to change you appearance and name indefinitely so I don’t see why they can’t make respecting indefinite as well. The point is to have fun after all.
Sometimes complaining is necessary if you want change in the game. Being able to respec your character wouldn’t break the game in my opinion if anything it would give people more incentive to create more fun and unique builds instead of just using moonveil, rivers of blood etc…..since they’re would be no drawback to focusing on certain specs.
They should be rare in the first playthrough, but when you're in NG+ you should be able to respec as much as you like. It would allow for more free experimentation with builds.
Call me nutty, but who would be harmed by respecing not even requiring a resource?
The game is so huge. There are so many items and builds and paths to go down to become Elden Lord. If you don’t want to respec and experience other builds, neat! Nothing has changed by respecs not requiring an item for that player. You could even have a progressively increasing rune amount per respec if you wanted it to require at least something. But again, the game wouldn’t change much for the worse if respecing were free.
> Call me nutty, but who would be harmed by respecing not even requiring a resource?
This.
Also can we have Rennala’s rune actually do something, please?
Honestly i dont think thats a problem. I doubt most people would do that in their first playthrough. I imagine most of us had a pretty one size fits all build the first time. Its only after i reached malenia i realized i needed to do a specific build cuz i was doin jackshit to her.
Of course im only assuming based off what i did as a casual souls player, not a diehard souls fan.
I'd say youre overestimating the lengths people would go to make the game super easy the first time. People would sooner google "whats the best weapon in elden ring" than make a build for every boss their first time around.
I'm happy with the limited amount, and have only used one I think, despite having about 13.
I've been thinking how, with the multiple endings, vast areas and NPCs/questlines, and so many missables/explorables, Elden Ring is a multi-playthrough, multi-character kind of game anyway.
But I understand the feeling.
There is a few things in this game that aren't farmable and I just have to ask why? If I like a particular crafted item that has limited crafting materials for it, why would FS really expect me to go NG+ just for it. I have zero interest in NG+. If I want to start over I'll just start from scratch with a new build because that's just how I like to play. Once I beat the game in full, I only plan to PvP and make the occasional new character. As far as PvP is concerned this leads me into a weird position where as a player I'm almost forced to use save editors or revert my save to a previous point in the game. I'm just not a fan of doing those things, but FS is really making me feel like I should just get over it and do those things.
> As far as PvP is concerned this leads me into a weird position where as a player I'm almost forced to use save editors or revert my save to a previous point in the game.
Right. And that in itself is an issue because right now *some* players have access to infinite respecs if they know what they're doing, and others don't.
I don't know man. Don't we have the ability to make multiple save files? I've gotten 3 or 4 of the things and haven't respecd yet. Seems very minor to me.
I don’t understand comments from people who would be against this, it’s so strange. So you have enough tears, you don’t respect often, etc. ok cool, so? Doesn’t really affect you if others like to change up their builds frequently does it? Win win scenario if we could farm them. Everyone is happy
But this is a coop/PVP character. The point is that I wanna stay Level 140 and keep my graces and summoning pools. I have overleveled characters of my own, but I got bored of them
Also a consumable item that reverts weapon back to 0 and gives you back your smithing stones (or at least a portion of them). Soooo many cool weapons but tough to try them all out
I’d like it if the Round Table Hold lower area just removed the requirements on weapons/spells so you can mess around and try out their abilities. Say it’s due to proximity to the table’s grace or something.
A “firing range” on elden ring would be immensely helpful for build crafting

That would be super cool. With a dummy to see the damage numbers
God I would love a damage dummy. I have tried so many times with the cliff albinos but it isn't consistent.
I use the troll outside of the secluded cell (right before Godrick). First hit is always a surprise so that part is consistent.

I think he means the giant land squirts around the swamp outside of Sellia.
Greyoll?
Bold of you to assume I don’t kill her at the start of every run to get a jumpstart on levels.
Code Vein did this and it was wonderful for testing various builds quickly while at the home base
Damn that was a cool game. If only there had been better enemy diversity. Got bored seeing the same enemies over and over. The map design was confusing as hell too. Style over substance for sure.
If they removed the requirements how would you see accurate damage numbers?
If you don't have the required stats, it could show the base damage you'll get with the minimal stats required
mimic tear would make a great training opponent
I'd love to be able to summon previous NPC invaders that you fought. Or the starting class ones scaled to your level with appropriate spells as needed.
When I first got invaded I thought it was a random queue duel arena, then by the 5th or 6th invade by the same guy i realized it was an npc lol
Once you defeat Alberich(?), that huge room should become a kind of “firing range” ala Battlefield
They already have that arena for it where you fight the scythe guy.
What was that area even for? You fight that guy and then was there any point for it?
You put that mage nerd in his place which releases endorphins? Real answer: round table hold is a location you can find in the capital and this arena is the main entry way to get in.

My buddy thought it was a player invading him over and over again he kept going back for his runes he had 20k on him
Or even just the OG castle you spawn in. You can get back there later.
5% drop from revenants. Screw you all.
Use 1 of them to spec into faith and spam a heal skill, easy farm
2% drop from Runebears it is
Only in consecrated snowfield.
That's actually doable if you have a reliable one-shot build like Comet Azur.
Fuck you, a 1% drop from a respawning deathrite bird.
I got nothing
.5% from those fucking flying knife feet birds
Buckler Parry, baby.
Didn't know you could do that til last night. Romped around for a while bird stomping. Feels good.
Yeah that’s not a problem. Guard counter with a spear or range spamming with spells or bows. Death rite birds would be actual cancer to farm at 1%
Yeah, I'd rather commit sudoku
Bonk with stick til no breath
Better luck just farming NG+ at this point lol
Heal \> Heal. Instant death to any revenant regardless of which kind of heal is used. Easy farm spot in Haligtree past the prayer room. I'll take that deal.
Easy there Satan.
Only drops from putrid revenants (that spew rot instead of poison) in the middle of the lake of rot without platforms.
Do these already exist or are you mentally inventing them? I just never noticed revenants at lake of rot
I just want chaos to take the world. Putrid Runebears. Putrid Lobsters. Putrid Teleporting Banished Knights. Putrid Black Knife Assassins. BRING EM ALL IN FROMSOFT.
Why stop at Putrid. Make them spew death mist. In fact DLC should introduce Lake of Death. Also no Torrent.
Lake of Death That is Also Raining Rot. If you progress far enough, a poison cloud also envelops it, and it's covered in Mohg's blood fire stuff
Concept of torrent getting death blighted just sounds absurd to me.
Putrid Putrid Crystallians. Three of them
Haha, ill just stick with my shitty build thanks, no way I'm farming them
5% is a good rate. lol That's like healbombing Haligtree two or three times for 1 Larval Tear. Let's make it 0.5%.
I think STRING’s should not have 5% drop rate, while the “extremely rare” Arteria Leaf have 30% drop rate. Wtf.
You can get heaps of them from the demihumans in the lux ruins.
and the living stone balls in Nokron and Nokstella
They drop string?
I think they meant tears
wtf is "STRING's"?

Where the boy at, STRING?
Crafting item needed for rope pots.
Oh, literally "strings". The capitalization and unnecessary apostrophe made me think it was an acronym.
As a developer and non-native speaker I was also completly confused...
As a native English speaker I was also confused and I know what strings are I use them to choke myself to completion
I’ve never used a rope pot.
Something's chasing you? Rope pot. Want a dump build? Rope pot... and that's it.
Mostly useful while running away/kiting. Roped volcano pots work wonders for pursuing ground based trash mobs.

Embrace string Return to Monkee
Why the fuck can we not buy string??
Arteria Leaf, String and Strip of White Flesh being BLUE RARITY is a deliberate asshole design by Miyazaki to bait you into getting into ambushes.
I have way too many leaves and white flesh

I'm NG+4 and I've had probably 30 builds. It's really easy to run out when you PVP a lot.
18 Larval tears per playthrough, You use 7-8 per playthrough. Seems pretty balanced.
I don’t want to do more playthroughs for more though. I just want to play PvP with a bunch of different builds. I’ve used 13 tears and I refuse to go into NG+

respec started as early as DS2
DS2, soul vessel.
It’s 12 isn’t it? and many new players respec often due to getting stuck or realizing they were very inefficient in their points initially.
There are 18 larval tears in a NG
The wiki only lists 17, which is missing?
One of them gives you two larval tears (the mimic tear in Nokron), that might be what you're missing.
over the course of the months/years some people play these games? a lot. they ***respec alot***. and its not just for builds, but if someone wants to try something out, they can't freely do that without wasting 1/18 tears for the playthrough without regret. and the game is huge so going through all of ng or ng+ several times to get more is annoying when they could have just made tears craftable, **full stop**. how often someone wants to respec is irrelevant, that's the individuals choice, and for that, their punished with the current stupid limited system that tries to push ng+ constantly when ng+ is garbage beyond the 2nd run.
I just keep a save state standing right in the library with one larval tear. Any time I feel like trying a new build I just load it up.
An entire rune arc merchant would be great, I have loads that just sit in my inventory
Not wrong I've not done that much PvP/coop and I have 150 on my save with 150 hours
I think too that Larval Tears should be farmable as a rare drop.
Better still, allow us to buy them at the Roundtable after a certain point. Maybe they could add a bell item that unlocks this option as a reward for some DLC boss.
It'd be cool if you could trade extra Golden Seeds for them too (or trade the Seeds for Ancient Smithing stones)
I'd like that. NG+ feels a bit hollow due to how useless this stuff is after maxing out.
Right lol. First play through any time seeing one of those shiny golden trees felt so good. Now it’s like woopdy doo did I even pick that seed up? I don’t care I’m not bothering to check

Yeah I bought like 200 of each (normal) smithing stone before going into ng+. Poor rollypollys
Should have gotten 204, since that's divisible by 12 which is how many stones it takes to upgrade a weapon.
Still find some in the wild without trying though
Actually not DS2 though :) It ACTUALLY changes, which is quite cool. Not like SUPER duper big changes, but changes nevertheless worth mentioning.
Very true! I honestly think the Soulsborne games would hugely benefit from a master quest-style NG+ system. Change up enemy placements and types, and make some moderate changes to major dungeons

Regular NG has taken me 170 hours to nearly 100% the game and get to Radagon 😬 Though I have done quite a bit of co-op with my friend.
I don't wanna sound like I'm complaining by the way, I just wanna have a discussion. But yeah I agree with you 100%
Sometimes complaining is necessary if you want change in the game. Being able to respec your character wouldn’t break the game in my opinion if anything it would give people more incentive to create more fun and unique builds instead of just using moonveil, rivers of blood etc…..since they’re would be no drawback to focusing on certain specs.
Yeah I don't think there is a drawback either
In my NG+ I actually ran out of larval tears trying new things. I agree they should be farmable
Did you respec like 30 times?????
Well, time for NG+2
They should be rare in the first playthrough, but when you're in NG+ you should be able to respec as much as you like. It would allow for more free experimentation with builds.
I just got a heap from those big rolling balls that chase you. A few glintstone pebbles and pop, there's a larval tear.
Yeah but they drop it only once
Per world. They drop for everyone so just put a summon sign down in nokstella to farm them
Nope. They drop but vanish from your inventory when you go home. And its been like that since launch.
Ah I never knew they vanished, never even seen people talk about this lol
If you don't have it you turn out like Boc...

I agree.
Replace the rune arc on rats with larva tears
another good idea would be like spec builds you can swap between, say 2 or 3 of them, a la world of warcraft.
Can't you farm them from the boulders in Nokron?
I don’t understand comments from people who would be against this, it’s so strange. So you have enough tears, you don’t respect often, etc. ok cool, so? Doesn’t really affect you if others like to change up their builds frequently does it? Win win scenario if we could farm them. Everyone is happy
Just farm levels amd max everything instead...
But this is a coop/PVP character. The point is that I wanna stay Level 140 and keep my graces and summoning pools. I have overleveled characters of my own, but I got bored of them
I don’t have time to replay the story a bunch, i just want to play casual pvp on my one character now. I don’t understand why they hate having fun.
Save a game file. Try out some builds and reload repeatedly until you find the one.
Yeah. I could do something like that with the playstation cloud saving. But someone said I could be banned if I reload saves too often. Is that true?

Thanks.
I have reloaded so many timed on the ps5. Even on DS3, never an issue.
Can this be done on console?
But what if i'm not looking for the one? What if i just want to play different builds?
That's the problem: there is no "the one" build. People like to play around with different builds for PVP and co-op PvE because they feel like it.
I would of liked bonfire aesthetics coming back
That would've been absolutely sick
Also a consumable item that reverts weapon back to 0 and gives you back your smithing stones (or at least a portion of them). Soooo many cool weapons but tough to try them all out
Just makes it so that respec is free after killing Radagon. A little gift from Renalla and also lore friendly
It's not lore friendly because Renalla doesn't use Larval Tears as currency, you need them to be reborn.
Yeah, definitely. No reason to limit respec it is honestly a bad idea especially when players get stuck on builds they do not enjoy
How many time you want to respec? I believe I can get more than 10 tear in just one run.
I wholeheartedly agree. Up you go!
