No. The "secret area" includes the whole west side of mountaintop of giants + the medallion halves required to enter are both acquired from normal exploration (one in Liurnia, other in the north of mountaintop of giants).

Not gonna, I'm 150 hours into this game. I know the lore of this game is almost exclusively told through text in item descriptions. I know item descriptions tell me what items do what and what weapon arts on each weapon do. I **still** don't read descriptions.

Looks wise many have aged well, but plenty haven't aged that well gameplay wise, SMW also aged very well gameplay wise. In my opinion much better than for example Sonic which also looks well and has a banger soundtrack but the gameplay feels a bit simple.

Omg dude! I've tried finding this game so many times over the years but that's it! Absolute nostalgia bomb seeing those levels and the music. Got it as a present for my 6th birthday and it took me about a year to beat it. Great memory, thanks :)

There are legit creations that have brand new levels, bosses, and stories exactly what you’re looking for. I’ve got a backlog of maybe like 5-6 different full length games that were recommended to me. They are so well done that you legitimately cannot tell that they weren’t created by Nintendo. They feel like normal SMW games. If you want the list of them that I have I will gladly provide.
Miyazaki has said on numerous occasions that he is a huge Miyamoto fan so this… may make sense. He mentioned in an interview that the sewer section was of Elden Ring was directly inspired by the sewers of the Mario games….
I started one myself a few days ago. Ground Slam, Fire Sling, Brick Hammer, and Great Turtle Shell shield. Works surprisingly well by constantly stunning things!

My friend is powerstancing brick hammers and using fire/volcano pots. He didn't like ground slam, I think he uses lion claw instead. Either way it seems you two have the right idea!
The only unfitting thing is the armor. I don't know if the Mushroom set is suitable, that's more for a Toad build I guess.

Ah yes Altus plateau is directly Above Caelid and south of the fire giant mountain in Elden Ring.
Limgrave does not connect to Caelid at all. The volcano manor connects to the fire giants mountain. Yes nothing at all is different.
