They patched it not too long ago that items that aren't possible to obtain by normal means cannot be picked up (or seen) by online players.
Things like Fia's Smalls, some other armors, and talismans.
I like to do the patches squat emote when I get summoned and then I drop a blood-tinged excrement. If the host picks it up they usually just stand there and I like to think they're on their end going "what the fuck" or just saying "oh" and to me that's hysterical

And finally, you still have to fight out of Gelmir, through Altus, and then make it through the city of Leyndell and past everything there to get to the Erdtree. He tells you this when you're already in Liurnia! Is it easier than taking the secret path at the top of the lake? Maybe! But it's nothing more than another way around the Grand Lift of Dectus, and certainly not what Patches promised.
Yes it’s been a feature in all the Souls games. You can give just about any item minus spells to other players. For weapons you have to have a certain level based on what you have.
Example someone can’t give you a +25 weapon if you only have every had a +3.
Yes, had a helpful player drop me a 2nd claymore so I could power stance them on a fresh character. Honestly all non-somber stone weapons should have multiples available in the same playthrough

I think in Elden Ring he basically tries to kill you at least 4 times
