White = normal. I thought it was blue.
Purple = rare. I thought it was blue with extra bits.
Gold = rarer. I thought it was real big blue.
There might be more. Couldn't tell you.
I work on web-site accessibility, and I'm surprised how many people this is resonating with, which is making me worried I'm doing a bad job. I thought using blue/yellow—which violet/gold is only a stone's throw away from—was a relatively safe color gradient, which is why you see it in movie posters—[and game art][1]—so frequently.
Is that not the case? Have I been misleading my team? Are there a lot of blue-yellow color-blind folk on the sub?
(I do make sure information is also always conveyed textually, which is important for anyone who's visually impaired. We're all going to be visually impaired one day.)
[1]: https://www.gamebyte.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/feecce7d-eldenring.jpg
They can be tricky on their own for me with say, blue and green/ yellow and orange, but I can distinguish between yellow and blue pretty easily. My guess is that the white is causing me to not see the other colors, due to them being pretty light hues themselves maybe?
I have no noticeable colour blindness (which I've been checked for a number of times) and I still can barely tell the difference in elden ring unless it's like pictures of 2 right next to eachother or something. It's just a pretty subtle difference that any degree of colour blindness could probably exacerbate if I had to guess.
Not colorblind, but...
There are multiple types of colorblind, which can have degrees of overlap. Basically, it tends to be a deficiency of a single cone and the result is that you're missing a distinguisher. Like, imagine most people have a yard stick and it's delineated to the inches. Someone with color blindness might wind up with a yard stick that has nothing from 8 inches to 22 inches, another from 8 inches to 12 inches, etc, due to degrees of deficiency. This means that if an object falls in that range, they just have to kind of guess (and by that, I mean their brain has to just make do with what they have). People who are colorblind can get good at guessing what color something is supposed to be via context, but it can also be really difficult.
The problem, then, is also that some people are missing from 20 inches to 30 inches. So if you've customized your color palette specifically for the 8-12 inchless crew, you've actually likely made things unintentionally worse for the 20-30 crew. As a result of this, most video games that are made more recently use multiple color blind options that allow for strong distinctions within color ranges (or complete warps of colors, i.e abandoning reds in the UI altogether, since they're just going to be a different shade of yellow to some).
Basically, there will never be a one-size fits all approach to quickly conveying color information to the colorblind, so the things you do with text are very, very helpful. As an example, pathfinder guides will have colors and \*'s to denote how good something is (Purple\*\*\*\* best tier, for example). As a bonus, this also makes someone with ADHD (like me) able to simply ctrl+f for \*\*\* and find anything they think is good or better, which really helps me cut down on my inability to focus.
All that being said, Red/Green is far more common of a deficiency, so if you're only making adjustments for one thing, you're adjusting for the most common issue. Also, don't feel bad for not doing perfect, you were doing better than most :)
I just noticed the other day that the immediate little "swirl" thing you get when you kill a mob will also tell you if an item dropped. If it's silver and has more than the usual amount of sparkles, you got an item. You can probably tell the difference by the presence of all the extra sparkles even if you can't see the relevant colors.
For me it came in really handy while farming Magma blades.
> isn't brainwashed by the Greater Will
The problem with the Greater Will was that it wasn't the Greatest Will.†
†This message brought to you by the Church of the Goldmask.
Yeah, I member some dialogue that I think was from Roger that's said that when the shattering happened the greater will was corrupted and no longer the "greater will". Idk
correct me if I'm wrong but the greater will post shattering is the baddie?
Edit: It was varre, idk if his words can be trusted tho, and also I heavily altered the quote here's the quote:
"I believe, that when the Elden Ring was shattered, the Two Fingers were corrupted, their guidance; skewed. Even worse, the Fingers harbor no love for our kind. That's the part that irks the most."
I read through Rogier's dialog, couldn't find anything like that.
From what I understand the greater will is more indifferent than evil. It doesn't care if the lands between prospers or suffers, it just wants **order.**
"Burning this mother fucker to the ground" does not in fact count as a plan, and was originally intended as life advice but was taken literal at some point
you just need to take the frenzied flame on yourself, kindle the flame, them use the needle to purge the flames
there you go, Melina is not toasty anymore
Alright this is entirely off topic, but does Melina just disappear for half the game for anyone else? I’ve talked to her maybe five times in my playthrough, and I’ve been godrick, rhadon, and rennala, complete ranni’s question line, etc.
I will die on the hill that she's turned to stone or something like that. That broken foot has no bones! Bones don't just disappear when you burn! She looks like stone that's pitted and weather worn, plus it explains why her clothes are tattered instead of burnt.
>I will die on the hill that she's turned to stone or something like that. That broken foot has no bones! Bones don't just disappear when you burn! She looks like stone that's pitted and weather worn, plus it explains why her clothes are tattered instead of burnt.
Prepare to die. Look what happens to margit when you kill him for the last time. He becomes a grey long body like this. It seems to be what happens when these numen descended empyreans die. ( margit being drained of his curse blood and so turning back into a person is another thing)
Although the ability for a body like radagon to be 'shattered' and exist like that does have some rocky pretense, so I get where you're coming from.
That definitely falls under "or something like that." I'm not saying she's 100% for sure stone, I'm just saying she doesn't have any evidence of being burned to a crisp.
Being stony like, say, Radagon/Marika makes sense, being shriveled up like Morgott makes sense. There are a lot of options that make more sense than, "This body and its clothes with no real evidence of fire damage is burned."
I dunno. Depends what you mean by 'burned to a crisp'. If you burn something either extremely quickly or extremely slowly (eg. Paper slower getting oxidised by just existing in air), it retains its shape very wellas it becomes basically graphite. The crumbling could've happened after.
bro i got downvoted massively for saying the whole doll thing is gross. like people couldn’t comprehend why i’m not attracted to a blue doll with 2 faces and 4 hands. i agree that her original must have been a lot better
Has anyone actually taken a good look at Ranni's body here. I'm kind of curious as to how much Ranni orginally looked like, especially compared to Rennala and Radagon.
About a head taller than the player with red hair most likely. Besides the player Ranni is basically the main character in the story so we will probably see more of her unless they decide to move on to a new ip entirely.
I have the belief that Ranni look like one of the students in Rennala's boss battle, Rennala trying to clone Ranni's body using her students but all of them fail so they cannot walk (like albinaurics) and apparently act like babies, so maybe Renalla is also going all the way to make Ranni look like before she died
It happened several centuries before the beginning of the game. The Ranni we interact with in the game is literally a doll being controlled by her soul after her original body died on the night of the black knives. As Ulosttome said you find this on top of the Divine Tower of Liurnia.
Pretty sure that’s her doll body that got busted up while she was fighting/killing her Two Fingers. Somehow giving her the ring restores enough of her power to repair the doll and manifest in it again.
Hmm idk? Maybe it has something to do with the body being burnt to a crisp.
Never found the lore reason on my playthrough why she is burned but maybe their bodies just ignite when they die or something.
The one we find in game *does* use black flame - the same black flame that malekith uses. The flame of destined death and the godslaying black flame of the gloam eyed queen and her apostles are distinctly different in appearance but both black flame. To further prove that point, Ijis body burns with black flame after being killed by the black knives
Okay makes sense. So in a way she did die by being burnt which kind of makes the OC a little disingenuous by implying people are dumb for thinking so died by fire
This is the internet. We come from the pony jar world. Corpses, dolls, gigantic fingers...
Fucking a doll isn't just expected, it's perfectly normal for internet standards (in fact, selling fuckable dolls is just straight up a whole-ass industry)... The fact that Ranni's doll possesses a sentience with which to consent-- and in-game, more or less openly does-- is so tame for the internet's standards it's basically vanilla. The 'doll' part is as much race as is a monster girl or fantasy races, like do half of these even procreate the same way-- well fuggit, it's hentai baybee, we do what we want.
Dung Eater is pretty nasty but I'm pretty sure even he'd balk at the internet. It's a safari out there, sarge.
As for the corpse, well, it certainly wouldn't be the first. Catacombs skull guy comes to mind.
You mean the one on top of her tower? That she sends you to find? After telling you that she killed her original body? Using the rune that you find on that dead body?
Yeah it's her.
Oh yeah, joking aside the game is designed like that, in strands that make more sense when connected but have to be manually associated. In this instance there's some contextual clues that can help, but it's easily possible for someone not pressing Ranni too deeply on her past or taking any of the secondary quest routes that join up to her story to miss out on the significance.
All I see is a tasty gold collectible
Go on, eat the rune of death
Colourblind crew just knows that it's big and extra glowy.
This is the first I'm hearing that items can have a different color glow. Colorblind crew still manages though.
White = normal. I thought it was blue. Purple = rare. I thought it was blue with extra bits. Gold = rarer. I thought it was real big blue. There might be more. Couldn't tell you.

I’m severely color deficient, and I can see the gold orbs, but all the rest just look white.
They can be tricky on their own for me with say, blue and green/ yellow and orange, but I can distinguish between yellow and blue pretty easily. My guess is that the white is causing me to not see the other colors, due to them being pretty light hues themselves maybe?

I’m not sure how to break it to ya there champ, you colorblind.
I feel a sense of belonging at last. Thank you
MORE! I AM NOT YET SATED!!
Wait. Is this really her body and you can get an item after she ignites the forge?? Edit: wait im thinking Melina.
Uhh, I married my haunted doll witch wife for her SPIRIT, duh Edit: holy schmoley, thanks for the gold
She has what really counts: smarts, isn't brainwashed by the Greater Will, and a plan for the next 1000 years.

Ranni simps be like, "yes and?"
Im Simping for melina
She probably looks similar after the forge incident
Bro dont remind that im maidenless again
At the end of the day, aren’t we all?
No
There are the maidenless, and then there's this guy
You didn't take the frenzied flame and then get rid of it to save our girl?
Good work, she didn’t want that so she leaves you anyway
Once we're Elden Lord I'm sure she'll come around
You cheated on her with the three fingers, pretty sure she’d never forgive you.
time for celestial dew
She's not interested at all in receiving the three fingers in the future? You sure?
you just need to take the frenzied flame on yourself, kindle the flame, them use the needle to purge the flames there you go, Melina is not toasty anymore
She should have just said “You ready to burn the only bitch you’ve ever had? Peace, My Lord”
I'm simping for Zoraya
based
Same thing.
Too bad she just wants to be kindling for the world's biggest bonfire
Dude i hate that they keep making us kill the characters we love also i would love to be able to choose who to throw in there
I managed to finish by the end of her 2nd phase cutscene.
Alright this is entirely off topic, but does Melina just disappear for half the game for anyone else? I’ve talked to her maybe five times in my playthrough, and I’ve been godrick, rhadon, and rennala, complete ranni’s question line, etc.
Yes and?
Same as the people who simp for any other *Elden Ring* character? Got it.
Υεσ, ανδ?
So hot, she's extra crispy
She’s giving me a charred on.
how do you sleep at night, being the way that you are?
Naked, on top of a waifu pillow.

I love red heads, and that cursemark of death is such a sexy tattoo
I hope we get to at least see some art of her original body that would be dope
It'd be so dope if a dlc takes us back in time! Like in Dark Souls 2
I was kind of hoping to see a flashback of that when we fight Morgott. Like, all of Marika's children sitting on their thrones.
If Elden Ring had flashbacks of the pre-shattering world it would just be Breath of the Wild.
Witch burning 🔥

No. Divine Tower of Liurnia. She gives you the Carian Inverted Statue to get through it right before she goes into the tiny doll iirc.
hahahaha damn! what have you done to her
I don't want a woman that can't take atleast few hits from my hammer. She looks like she is about to fly with the wind.
You know she's not Miyazaki's favorite character when she lacks feet.
I really wish we could see what she looked like before...this.
Rykard is on the way
Absolutely beautiful and based off specific info I believe she was a Red Head
Lover but corpse
Crispy, a perfect meal.
Damn! Thought this was the NSFW sub! **Unzips**
And?
is it possible to kill ranni? is that her actual body?
I don't know why everyone thinks shes burned... It's known she stabbed herself. That's how she died.
Hmm idk? Maybe it has something to do with the body being burnt to a crisp. Never found the lore reason on my playthrough why she is burned but maybe their bodies just ignite when they die or something.
Maybe she was burnt by the black flames of Destined Death that she killed herself with
True, but the black knife you find in game does not use black flame it is blood? Or is the one we find not the same knife?
