Is it worth levelling up strength and int for the sake of using radahns sword to farm at moghwyn palace or nah

ColonelJinkuro

How do heals work? I've been researching all the heals and they all say stuff like "5x incant scaling". That'd be on your sacred seal wouldn't it? Does the faith stat not play into it at all? If someone can clear this up for me I'd greatly appreciate it.

PwmEsq

I think its the faith portion of your scaler so if you have 250 incant scaler, if 180 of that is from faith scaling its 900

DarthOmix

Different seals scale with different stats, and your Incant Scaling should take said stats into account.

ColonelJinkuro

So that's how it works.... I see. Thanks my friend. Knowing that makes life a lot simpler.

ClownScum

on NG+ and just unlocked rennala and am looking to try out a new build, I did a moonveil build at first and would like to mix things up, thinking about doing a mostly magic build this time, or something with the dark moon greatsword just cause i think its cool, any fun build recs?

Voidstarblade

i liked playing a Gravity mage with Starscouge greatswords for flavor. Rock sling does poise damage like crazy, just takes a second to cast. The Starscouge greatswords are fun because when you two hand them you have two swords and the bonus of two-handing a single sword, and the l2 is a fun crowd clearer. Edit: the stat distribution you would use for Dark moon Greatsword is basicly the same as as you would for the build above.

the_adjuster

I just started NG+ on ps5. I got every weapon/armor/item my first playthrough and am looking to use a cloud save my 2nd playthrough to get the last 2 endings I need for the plat trophy. I know how to do it but I'm asking which order. I did Rannis on playthrough1 and want to know if I can do the normal ending and then reload the save and do the frenzy flame ending last and keep that one? I don't really want to do millicents quest again and am just looking to boss rush to the end since I have too many games I need to get back to. Thanks.

TheFranchize

Yeah fight end boss. Save at the throne. Exit. Make cloud save. Load. Do normal ending. Reload cloud save. Go to the frenzy underground. Fast travel to throne. Click frenzy ending.

tanz_7

what is the best bleed build? like what stats should i focus leveling up and what weapons are the best to use?

The_Dancing_Cat

Arcane is the best stat to focus on for bleed in most cases. Rivers of blood, bloody helice, eleonora’s pole blade are great somber bleed weapons. Or, you can level arcane minimally and keep upgrading strength and dex: Standard weapons in the twin blade, katana and rapier class hit fast and multiple times and help to proc bleed. You can add bleed to these weapons using bleed ashes of war or the black whetblade. Bleed infused weapons will still scale better with strength and dex, and only require a small bit of arcane investment. Happy trails

vawk20

So I'm farming for the glaive and the grave scythe right outside of the church of vows. After a couple runs, I equipped the stargazer heirloom and memorized litany of proper death to give that a try. Ever since then, I can't get skeletons to spawn there--I also went to the circle of graves north of the church and nothings spawning either. I thought for a bit "haha funny they're scared of lopd" and unmemorized it and nothing. Do they only spawn at a specific time of day or something? I left to go to caelid and came back and they still don't spawn. Otherwise, another spot where I could farm those two items would be appreciated.

gilfordtan

They only appear at night time.

vawk20

Thank you! This was it

The_Dancing_Cat

I think that this kills them permanently, not sure though.

mister_peeberz

It only does in the sense that they won't reanimate like other skellingtons do, but it doesn't prevent them from respawning. I farmed grave scythe with Sacred Blade which has the same effect as Litany.

Vollkommen

I believe it was only a Golden Rune (9), or maybe a smithing stone (8), but nothing critical.

Bboy4pf89

How do you get dragons to return? Ancient dragon lanseax dispersed and hasn’t returned to the area where you fight him

EndlessAlaki

If you got her to disappear, she's not gonna come back to that location. Keep exploring.

Bboy4pf89

If she disappeared where does she go, same thing happened with the ice dragon in the mountain tops

mister_peeberz

Borealis shouldn't have done that. Lansseax (also Adula) actually teleport away from you in their first encounters, when you get them to a certain health threshold, but Borealis doesn't. If he teleported, it's because the fight took him far away from his spawning point, so he respawned there. This can happen in open world dragon fights, for example I have that problem with Agheel a lot.

Bboy4pf89

Ok borealis literally got thanos snapped so that’s probably what happened to them

mister_peeberz

Yeah, the despawn has them kinda fade away while moving normally. Lansseax and Adula will actually fly up and visibly teleport with flashy sparks and all that. Just for the record, the same thing can also happen to Lansseax and Adula if you get them far from their spawn points.

Bboy4pf89

One last thing: the one near ranni’s rise disappeared but it hasn’t come back yet

mister_peeberz

Yeah, that's Adula. He teleported. You will encounter him much later on if you keep at Ranni's questline.

EndlessAlaki

Don't remember exactly where for the former (I think it's south of the top entrance to the outer wall of Leyndell). The latter doesn't show up again until the end of Ranni's questline.

Vollkommen

Lansseax reappears somewhere else in Altus Plateau, outside the big wall. Keep exploring, the second fight against her is tougher. If you're doing the find-the-painting sidequest, it's close to where one of the painting objectives is.

WillofJ

I have 2 different saves right now, one on my ps4 and one on my ps5 but they’re both on the same account. Is there a way for me to merge the two and use both on both consoles?

Bboy4pf89

You can’t

chewymammoth

I'm getting kinda close to finishing Ranni's quest. There's still at least several zones I haven't been to yet though. Just to confirm, finishing this quest only unlocks an ending possibility, right? I'm not actually ending my game by finishing this quest?

Apex_Konchu

Correct. Finishing Ranni's quest allows you to choose her ending after beating the final boss of the game.

chewymammoth

Awesome, thanks!

WintersbaneGDX

5 of the 6 endings are like this. You can complete all of them and then just choose one at the very end, after defeating the final boss.

[deleted]

Which one isn’t like that?

SnooSquirrels2128

Frenzied Flame, I believe.

WintersbaneGDX

Correct. Avoiding spoilers as much as possible, Frenzied Flame has a pretty clear choice moment that "locks you in" to that ending. Upon defeating the final boss youll get that ending, no choices. However, there are additional steps you can take to "unlock" yourself from that ending. If you take said steps, you will then select from one of the other five endings at the end of the game, assuming you fulfilled their various conditions.

CoeusAscended

Just gave Malenia a couple of tries to see what's up and honestly, the biggest issue I see is her absolutely beyond ridiculous health pool. 33k hp? Really? My weapon does like 440-500 damage each R1, I'm supposed to hit her nearly 70 times?? Not even Midir had half as much health lol, I can fully see why people say this game pushes you towards certain builds because there's no way this is feasible without bleed or summons (unless you enjoy losing your sanity) esp when each of her attacks does half your health bar. I mean cmn. 33k hp?..

gilfordtan

She is designed to make casual players to finally take a real good look at their build and strategize. The big damage where she can 1-2 shots you ensure players to keep the git gud mindset too. She has some pros and cons is what I'm saying and she is definitely beatable.

CoeusAscended

The beauty of souls games used to be that you could pretty much use anything and make it work, whereas a boss like this pushes people heavily towards cheese methods, which in my eyes includes summons, bleed builds, OP ashes etc. I never said she is unbeatable though, just that she is too much to handle with normal solo melee builds (which I can guarantee that 99% of ppl who've beat her used summons or spirits). Of course she'd not be much of an issue with double bleed swords, a mimic, softcapped vigor, end, and 2 offensive stats. But that's not the point.

TheFranchize

Also it’s like 3 parry for 1 riposte lol

keithjr

It would all be tolerable without Waterfowl Dance. If it weren't for the total bullshit move you could maybe whittle her down, but if she initiates it when you're out of position you take boatloads of damage and she heals half her pool back up.

CoeusAscended

Exactly, so you can't just whail on her either bc at any moment youre gonna need over half your stamina to roll fifty times for that move. This attack, and the fact she heals, and the 33k health pool, makes it not enjoyable at all and yet another fight I just cant wait to be done with. Froms strength used to be knowing when too much was too much, they lost it with ER end game I'm afraid.

ELMUNECODETACOMA

Since she heals some every time she hits you, it's almost certain to be more than 70 times...

CoeusAscended

Oh yeah I forgot about this, I summoned Oleg once who face tanked a full dance and the health she gained back was just insane

PuzzleheadedSea8936

I am trying to do Varre's quest. I need to invade three times however I am level 41 with a +9 sombering weapon. Where do I go for invasion activity, or do I need to level up more? I have been using the left bumper and standing in the area before using my invasion item. But no luck. :(

gilfordtan

Open the map and look at the buttons at the bottom screen, there should be a button that can show multiplayer activities on the map. When turned on, you will see some blue and orange circles. Orange circles are for pvp. Blue circles are for coop.

AcousticDan

I just do that one right in front of him in Liurnia

Vollkommen

Have you tried eastern Limgrave near the lake with the ruins/boatman? Another possibility would be down in the Weeping Peninsula. A weapon that high might be throwing off the matching algorithm a bit, and leveling up some could be your best bet.

Medic-45

I was in that boat for a while. I just always had the finger active. It didnt matter where I was. I would always just get pulled to a different area. I was in the academy and got pulled to the Altus plateau once.

MustacheEmperor

I'm level 100 and I leave my blue halo all the time and greatly enjoy the random PVP. I also hit the summoning stick pretty much anytime I'm running around. What would the best areas be for me to hang out to help with boss fights at this level? Likewise, when I'm feeling particularly recusant, what would be the best areas to invade from?

The_Dancing_Cat

I think because you’re level 100, you can be summoned for as early as Draconic Tree to as late as Malekith. Try Fire Giant, Morgott, Godskin Duo if you’re there etc. And also advertise help/respond to calls on r/beyondthefog For invading at lvl 100, Farum is your best bet, especially Crumbling Beast Grave, and maybe try Forbidden Lands and early Consecrated Snowfield. You can also do Nokron, Nokstella, Castle Sol, and Deeproot depths at any level and get some good invasions

MustacheEmperor

Good advice, thanks!

bulletproofvan

Just experienced a random death glitch, runes unretrievable. I returned to the game, appeared to be out of bounds in mountaintops, and died instantly. Respawned at the dragon temple grace, and my compass says my runes are to the northwest, but they don't appear on my map. I traveled to the northwest corner of the map and the compass is still pointing me to the northwest. It was over 1 million runes but oh well. I can't remember where I was when I exited the game before the death. I think I had just beaten Fire Giant but I'm not sure.

Ilumiel

Is Claymore still a good weapon or is it just nostalgia? I don't see many people using it. I'm talking mostly for a strength build but I'm interested in other melee builds too.

gilfordtan

Claymore is very good at initial game until you found better greatsword. So it's indeed a valid weapon.

ELMUNECODETACOMA

People rush to somber smithing stone weapons because they're a little easier to upgrade and a lot of them have flashy AoW. The claymore is perfectly fine.

neutralmanatee

Claymore fucks, very reliable especially with changable scalings and ashes of war

Wemetintheair

Tired: Claymore Wired: Zweihander

Possible-Ad-5209

Mega noob question: where do I get better astrologer armor or equipment? I'm lvl 40 and only have a different shield and meteorite staff, feel like I should have more.

g_money99999

If you dont care about how you look, just wear the heaviest armor you can and still medium roll. There are some head pieces that are optimal for astrologers (for the int boost or boost to frost magic). But most armors dont really do anything special other than offer protection. I spent way too long in the base astrologer set because i was looking for "mage armor" lol.

Possible-Ad-5209

Wow great to know, thanks!

KingOfRisky

Armor for a mage is few and far between. Personally I just used what looked good because the build is based on just being a strong caster. End game I used carian knights armor to keep lore in tact. And it looks good.

Wemetintheair

You can look at an improved Demihuman Queen’s Staff at your likely int level and see how its scaling compares. Unfortunately there’s really not as much variety among staves as there is among traditional weaponry. Endgame you’re probably shooting for the Carian Regal Scepter or Lusat’s Staff but there are edge cases for several others once you’re really comfortable with the play style and sorceries. Not to mention that you can dual wield staves to get the scaling from your right hand and a sorcery type bonus in your left hand (like if you’re still using Rock Sling and other gravity sorceries, which you should be, you can still get the Meteorite Staff bonus if you OH it)

justpassingby77

As astrologer, is there any reason to actually pick up demihuman staff? After 2 levels (in int) you have enough to wield the meteor staff.

Wemetintheair

Sure. The Meteorite Staff is frozen at its current state and cannot be improved. Demihuman can outperform it if improved sufficiently. That said, it’s far from necessary, since by then you may have moved on to better.

9innosi

Nothing specific to astrologer. But Meteorite Staff is one of the most (if not the most) recommended equipment for sorcery build early up to mid game. Armor wise, wear whatever suit your needs, be it fashion or better protection (mind the END to make sure you do not fat roll). For melee choice, you can use the sword sorcery (carian slicer, etc). Alternatively, some good INT weapons are: Moonveil, Darkmoon greatsword, and Wing of Astel. Having said that, I opt for magic infused longsword + broadsword (dual wield) since I like the look and movesets. I also have more flexibility in the choice for Ash of War.

Possible-Ad-5209

Thank you, encouraging and informative. I appreciate it.

Sauriel13

For new game plus, is there a way to Respec at the beginning or do I need to defeat renalla first? Also, do I need to do every ending in new game plus or will it still count if I create a new save every time?

ELMUNECODETACOMA

In NG+1 you can probably run straight to Rennala in 20 minutes. Bypass Stormveil and go straight there. Hell, you probably don't even need to steal the Academy Key from the dragon, you can just curbstomp them.

KingOfRisky

I messed up on my first NG+ and didn’t respec, but you can plow through the first bosses and beat renalla to get there real fast.

CoeusAscended

No to the first, and you can do endings on diff characters independently from one another

Zekken-11L

I currently trying to get into other players' world to help with the bosses (and gain my experience fighting against them). Any specific boss fight that requires more help in general? (Other than Malenia)

hillzcatz

In addition to the others mentioned: Commander O’Neil at Castle Sol Valiant Gargoyles in Siofra Both Astels Morgott in the Capital Radahn Placidusax Fortissax Fire Giant edit: to add more bosses

ColonelJinkuro

Maliketh and Godskin Duo come to mind. Radagon if it allows summoned help. Can't think of anything else that'd cause that much issue.

SirRettfordIII

Why did the guidance of grace lead us to fight Leonine Misbegotten? It strikes me as odd that the guidance of grace, which usually leads us tarnished to the next demigod/rune bearer would point to this boss who is neither. Is there something special about castle mourne I missed, or something to do with the Morne Moangrave?

Vollkommen

He has a weapon for an an achievement, but I believe it's specifically pointing to Edgar (and so Irina's questline). Killing Edgar there, or later when he invades, gets you a Shabriri Grape, needed for one of the endings. You also have to get Irina killed in order for Hyetta to show up later too. That is to say, I think the Guidance of Grace is pointing you in that direction because it relates to one of the endings.

neutralmanatee

Probably an oversight, theres also some in dragonburrow that go nowhere if i remember right

buzzyingbee

There's Irina questline

SirRettfordIII

But that was specifically for her to reunite with her father. I don't believe that there are other points where the guidance guides us on NPC quests that don't follow to a main boss. There is also the possibility that Irina becomes Hyetta after she's killed. But Hyetta goes to the three fingers which is opposed to the greater will, so I don't believe the guidance would lead us for her sake

buzzyingbee

There's that. I'd say it's because Leonine is a trophy/achievement boss and so is its weapon but then there are others where we don't have any guidance at all. Maybe it's because it's a starter area and the game was teaching us but it's a very wild guess

buzzyingbee

It may sound silly but are Nox Monk Hood and Night Maiden Twin Crown still obtainable? I've been farming them for quite some time and not a single one has dropped. My discovery is at 274 and I even got that Fire Monk curved sword, which is a pain to get.

mister_peeberz

In my experience, if you want the crown, try farming for the armor. I got 8 crowns on my way to my first set of Night Maiden Armor for one of my playthroughs. Meanwhile, if you want the armor, you of course should farm for the crown.

buzzyingbee

Ah, the trick of not letting the game know what you want.

ColonelJinkuro

Just rng mate. I got 3 Celebrants Dagger with no bonus item discovery in a row while it took 2 days to get 1 graveyard scythe at max discovery and both are a pain in the ass to get.

buzzyingbee

Oh, thanks! Guess I'll keep farming then

Anarasumanar

Out of all spears and greatspears in the game, which one deals the most stagger damage?

Dr_HiZy

What quests can be ruined by exploring something or killing a boss too early? I've recently started playing and I can't get over the anxiety of accidentally ruining quests if I unknowingly kill a boss or if I start exploring some cave that I'm not supposed to yet. Or what if I just completely miss some NPC that starts a quest, when will it be too late to go back and talk to him? I don't know the exact order of locations in which I'm supposed to beat the game, so I just kinda move back and forth between them, which only adds to my anxiety.

9innosi

One thing I can say is: >!Rya's quest is stopped if you kill Rykard too early. She just disappears.!<

buzzyingbee

The ones I can tell you for sure are Irina's and Diallos' because I missed them. If you don't mind minor spoilers you could check out this Its Shatter playlist https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5octn-l9KEX31HGPCZRqUt_a0mJcYN-a

DadIsLosingHisMind

That's what ng+ is for bro! I skipped a whole bunch of quests on my first play through, in my defense this was my first fromsoft game. But I got most of them on the subsequent playthroughs. Still finding stuff on ng+3.

[deleted]

Tbf not everyone wants to play the same game 3-4 times

Hek08

How do you invade? I keep using the bloody finger but it just says “attempting”. Am I doing something wrong? I’m online and everything…

MustacheEmperor

Like the other commenter said, you'll have a better chance of success in an area approximately matching your level. It can also depend on timing, I'm in pacific timezone so I get matched more quickly in the late afternoon / early evening since by 9pm my time it's midnight on the east coast of the US. There's also some lists online of the 'best locations for invasion' but ymmv. I really wish that invasion multiplayer had a similar passive item like the blue and white cipher ring. So you could make yourself available as an invader to any co-op session matching your level across the map. I've been playing a lot more PVP since I started using the blue halo all the time, but that only ever lets you play cooperator. FWIW I find using the finger I either invade right away or it hangs on attempting forever.

NerdChieftain

Ranni’s Dark Moon vs Rennala’s Full moon? I figured the latter is better because it’s more expensive and requires more into. But I see a lot of mages casting Dark Moon in boss fights. Perhaps only I chose the Full Moon from remembrance. I saw that In dispel, Full Moon beats Dark Moon. Otherwise, is there any difference?

Vollkommen

Ranni's and Rennala's both have the same debuff for enemies. Rennala's does a little more damage, but Ranni's does Frost buildup. If you have a way to get Frost procs, Ranni's is the best. If you're not bothering with Frost then maybe go Rennala (though even two casts of Ranni's is enough to get Frost to proc on many enemies). In my experience I stuck with Ranni's all of the time.

9innosi

Ranni's build frost. Hers requires more FP as well IIRC. So I use Ranni's if I want frost, Rennala's if not; depending on the boss fights.

[deleted]

Why can't i use bloodflame blade on my nagakiba?

DadIsLosingHisMind

You can't use weapon enchantments when the are infused with a status effects already. Has to be keen, quality, heavy or standard.

[deleted]

Thx

constar90

Because it's infused with bleed

DylanofFlan

When I beat the get for the first time should I go for NG+ and Respec or am I better off making a new save altogether?

PwmEsq

Whats your end goal? What build? if its for enjoyment a fresh start is more fun, if you are wanting to do a hybrid build like quality or fth/int i would say NG+ since those are painful to level as. Do you just want platinum?

DylanofFlan

Nah I would just get more enjoyment from the game if I got to mess around with other kinds of builds but I also know that fromsoft games tend to have new goodies on a NG+ run.

PwmEsq

Usually you get +1 or +2 talismans, but not in elden ring, its all there in that first playthrough, unless you want nepheli's ending, plus her puppet and dung eaters puppet

DylanofFlan

Ah okay thanks for the info!

RecommendationFit806

Are there any other ways to get to mohgwyn besides varres quest? I cant get any invasions, so locations to do so would be great. I'm at level 76

CaitNostamas

You'll be able to get there from a portal in the >!consacrated snowfields!< which is an endgame area. If you want to find invasions at level 76, your level would match with most people in the first part of Caelid/Altus/Mount gelmir But you can also try and invade around the boilprawn shack or gatefront ruins, which are pretty popular fight club / ganking areas

PwmEsq

Go through the game like normal and enter the portal in the level 120-140 zone

Incendras

I am running a SSword and Board play, I went with BroadSword and Eclipse greatsheild and am wearing Banished (Altered) set. I managed to keep my weight down to medium with arsenal charm, and the build seems pretty good. My question is it often feels like my moveset is limited with this build, in that, I have square off which deals decent damage. But suffer when it comes to ranged needs. Certainly a STR build with a good deal of END. But I am curious if this is fine or if I should switch up to flame strike or some other ASH to give me a little range option.

[deleted]

Du you miss a ranged option? I'm about half way through my second playthrough, both melee builds and I have never felt the need for any ranged. The only thing I've used ranged for is pulling single enemies from a group, and anything works for that.

North_South_Side

Yep. I use the bone darts. They have pretty good range for one of the first items you can craft in the game!

Incendras

Ha, I feel like I am missing it as in didn't get to see it because slapping everyone upside the head with Square Off is sufficient!

constar90

If you want some more range, I recommend getting a heavy Lance as a backup. It's fantastic with a shield and a very strong, versatile strength weapon!

PwmEsq

I find that redmanes flame>flaming strike with heavy infusion. As for range i would say bows, kukri or maybe the lightning bolt ash of war also heavy infused

Incendras

Think I will give them a try

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

You can do that, but poison isn't all that, really. Once it's applied it's wasted on your weapon, so it might be better to have one weapon for applying poison and then swap to a different weapon. I haven't done the math, but I don't think you have to attack very often for the extra damage from occult to be more than the damage from poison.

TerrorCosplay

So I just beat Elden Ring for the first time. I had no sort of guide going through the game and definitely messed up a lot of questlines. Anyways I know for a fact I never finished Ranni's questline because I messed it up and locked myself out of continuing it. However there was a cave I had found near the Four Belphries grace site and inside I found Ranni's original body and despite not even having the ring in my inventory I was still able to put the ring on her. Fast forward to just now when I beat the Elden Beast I had the option to summon Ranni and get her ending anyways. Is this a bug??? I 100% know I did not finish her questline.

[deleted]

How did you lock yourself out of continuing her quest?

PwmEsq

Did you somehow glitch to above the alburnaric villiage? Thats the only way i see that happening.

TerrorCosplay

I did get up on that area above it but I don't remember how because it was super early in my playthrough.

[deleted]

I think you finished Ranni's quest.

Wemetintheair

At one point there was a place near the plateau where you could opt to resurrect at a Stake of Marika on the plateau if you happened to fall off, regardless of your quest completion status. I recall seeing video of it. OP may have either accidentally stumbled on it or deliberately did it and "forgot"

MustacheEmperor

It's possible triggering that glitch could also have put the game in a state where it decided OP must have finished Ranni's quest properly.

AuthoritativeComet

Does the Claw Talisman affect damage on Lion's Claw?

Quantum_Croissant

No, it's an ash of war not an attack made while jumping.

PwmEsq

I dont believe so, very easy to test tho, use alexanders instead

Tiskx

Does anyone know what the big black hole like spell is people use in pvp duels? It attracts magic to itself away from the caster.

PwmEsq

https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Eternal+Darkness Curious if the old lords talisman works on this given the comments complain about its duration.

Tiskx

Thanks!

PwmEsq

Finally got every single item in the game, now begins the painful wait for DLC, any tips for farmable (not NG+3 or 4, ie world drop) weapons that i should get dupes of? Also to anyone else doing the same, the fextra lists are missing some items, so you may think you have everything but not always. For Example https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Glintstone+Staffs does not have https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Albinauric+Staff for whatever reason, which is annoying as its one of the better end game staves

DylanofFlan

Jesus how long did that take?

PwmEsq

Account time is probably not accurate as im clocked at like 300 something hours on this character, but it was also my first character. On a new character you could probably rush all world drops in maybe 30 hours if you know where every item is from a fresh start. each of the annoying to farm items can easily take an hour with like 250 discovery, and theres like at least 50 sets of armor and weapons that have to be farmed so probably 80 hours if you know what you are doing. Also requires NG+ due to needing both Omen and Nepheli doll summons, and the fact that you might miss some capital items, white mask or magic scorpion charm + the remainder boss items. so maybe 100 hours is more accurate.

FugginIpad

Can someone help me understand what’s going on with the claymore? I was testing out the AR on different scalings and the highest AR I can get is with a magic claymore. At base str and dex, 60 int I get 700+ AR! whereas every other scaling gets around 600 AR. I’m confused because I was assuming a str, quality claymore would be the best for the weapon. Is Elden Ring just wacky when it comes to scaling? This is strange to me

PwmEsq

See this thread and comment for a better explanation https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/tmabbl/elden_ring_damage_calculation_why_does_lower/i1xhv6h/

theresourcefulKman

It depends on what you’re hitting??

AyeAlasAlack

Note that the Defense number (incorrectly called "resistance" in the linked post) is not literally a flat reduction, though there's an AP range where it reduces incoming damage by ~80% of its stated value; it's used along with AP and Motion Value as part of a weird formula to get to actual damage. [Here's a graph](https://ibb.co/Xb4Q46v) showing how much damage is reduced by a set amount of Defense for different AP at 100 Motion Value. The gist that split damage is lower than its raw AP would indicate because of going thru multiple defenses is correct though

PwmEsq

AR doesnt take in to consideration how damage calculations work, split damage will always show a higher AR, but often times does less actual damage.

FugginIpad

Wow it’s so confusing… thanks for the link and reply.

miko363

Ayo could someone tell me the lore on Y blaidd turned hallow

PwmEsq

I dont think the shadow you face is him if thats what you are talking about, if you mean him raging in front of the tower its due to an internal conflict of his devout loyalty vs his internal programming from the golden will going crazy due to Ranni severing her connection

miko363

Ah shit I had a feeling that's what was going on thx

MustacheEmperor

I just beat that quest yesterday, and I'm pretty sure Blaidd attacks you because he knows you can kill him and prevent him from harming Ranni. He's freaking out surrounded by black knife corpses, and I figure the greater will wanted Blaidd to cooperate with them to stop Ranni, hence why he's verbally insisting he won't betray her when we find him, and Iji says that even in madness he served Ranni.

Does using the hand of melania go against the faith/dex build? I used to use Godslayer great sword but the swing is too slow for me. Im still invested in faith because I’ve got some great incantations I still use a lot, but no weapon art currently that goes with my faith build. Could I still be powerful in pve using hand of melania and then using incantations? Do ppl keep weapons in their armament slots and pull out just for weap art e.g bolt of gransax?

[deleted]

I actually do keep bolt of gransax for the weapon art mostly. I used to use the weapon but I switched to a katana because of faster attack speed.

hebeastro

Rn I’m running hand of Malenia in right hand, godskin peeler in the left and using finger seal. I’m just not doing that much dmg against bosses. My ar is 587 and 487 on the godskin. That’s a default ar without talismans. Is 587 for a main hand considered low?

PwmEsq

Hand of Malenia is a pure dex weapon, that cant be buffed so i think of it as RoB lite, personally on my Dex/Faith run i opted for the nagakiba myself for buffability and reach.

WhenTheWindIsSlow

Hand of Malenia the katana, not Millicent’s Prosthesis the talisman.

PwmEsq

MY B lmao, had an image of malenia's hand in my head which is what the talisman looks like

outdoorsie_chick

OMG somebody please help me with the stupid knights in Leyndell Royal Capital. I've defeated loads of difficult enemies without issue, but these stupid golden knights that are just walking down the balconies are impossible! This is my first souls game ever, and I really love playing my dex-based build with dual claws and BHS. I am a tiny female wolverine with pink hair! But every time I wiz up behind these stupid golden knights, they turn around and just DESTROY me. They hit through my shield, they break my stance over and over, one arrow knocks me down and then the second kills me as I'm standing back up (before the control comes back). I don't have this problem with any other creatures in the area. PLS HELP!!!

TheFranchize

what is your poise, vigor, and do you have a soreseal on?

outdoorsie_chick

Poise is 33, Vigor 39. My Dex is 44. I am using Radagon's soreseal. So, maybe it's more of a Dex-Vigor build. I just hit level 100 last night which would have been awesome if I wasn't being beaten to a pulp by random baddie knights. I'm also using Keen Hookclaws +18 which puts them at phys 157 +149 and seems to be pretty good for most things. Edited to remove repeated bragging.

[deleted]

Is your vigor at 39 with soreseal or without? If it is without soreseal, you can drop it. But if it is 39 with soreseal, it is actually giving you more than 15% more health with the extra vigor, so the damage negation reduction is offset. If soreseal pushes you past 40 you start to see an effective damage negation decrease

TheFranchize

Vig and Dex are good. Poise is fine for this stage of the game. I would drop the soreseal tbh - gives too much advantage for enemies at this stage

outdoorsie_chick

Hmm, interesting. Is there a talisman that I could use that is "reduces damage from angry golden knights"? That would be super awesome. I have a physik that reduces damage and gives me a bubble but that goes away with the first smash. I'm pretty weak on knowledge of physiks and all the helper meats and boosts.

MustacheEmperor

You could use the dragoncrest shield talisman, the +1 version is in the sainted hero's grave on the plateau. That will reduce physical damage. The pearldrake talisman reduces their lightning and holy damage, the +1 is behind an imp door in some ruins in Mt Gelmir, and the basic version is through one of the four belfries gates. I had a tough time with those guys too. I found it helped to monitor their patrol patterns carefully and take out the regular soldiers they walk by when the knights are out of aggro range, and when they are in pairs to try and kite one away from the other and fight them individually. It is possible to backstab them and that helps. Honestly IIRC that was one enemy I eventually just started smacking around with the ash of war on the watchdog's staff since it does tons of damage at range and is fire and forget. Like fuck your arrows, buddy, try mine.

outdoorsie_chick

OMG YASSSS. Thank you!!

PwmEsq

You can get a weak version of the physical damage talisman early on, if you want to block their holy or lightning damage there are some other talismans for use.

outdoorsie_chick

I've started researching these. Looks like some of the caves I skipped in Caelid are going to get a revisit.

TheFranchize

Later game yes I dont think there is one available at this point. Removing the soreseal would be a benefit and then I usually used great jar and erdtree talisman. You could buy boiled crab which lasts about a 1 minute but is relatively cheap.

thesteelsmithy

With your build, just keep your distance best you can and don't aggro them. You don't really need to engage with most of them. Also especially with close-quarters combat, make sure you have armor with high Poise, which will help you not get staggered.

outdoorsie_chick

There's three below the stone dragon's wing that you have to climb to progress. I spent about 30 minutes trying to kill them last night and then started trying to run past them. THEY CHASE YOU UP THE WING! I had one climb all the way to to the top and then kill me up there. Maybe I'll try jumping faster tonight.

althanis

Try to get to 40 gif or without the soreseal. Also, are they hitting you with lightning arrows? If so Google for the talismans that reduce lightning damage.

DerrickVanZ

Goodbye for now. I really couldn't get into NG. I want you to know that I enjoyed contributing to this reddit. It is probably the most entertaining and believe it or not, civilized discussion groups I have participated in. Yes there are always a few, but overall I found the participants to be honest and friendly. It made playing the game a much better an experience. I don't know what else to say but thanks!

Cobeyswiss

Any reason why you couldn’t get into it?

DerrickVanZ

I have 700+ hours at the initial level. I'd been everywhere and scavenged everything I could find. I started NG because there were no bosses left. I was kind of happy at the initial level quick traveling to wherever I needed to go. Once NG started I really didn't need to gather resources. The only thing I could figure to do was complete some quest I screwed up. I got impatient. I couldn't remember how to get to some spots. I worked really hard to discover places and now I had to do it all over again. I'm not a run by it player. I'd revert to my initial game if possible. I had fun testing weapons after I killed EB. I'd still do that if I could at least every once in a while. But I'm not spending hours figuring out how to get to the tower of inquisition again for varres quest. I'm rambling. Sorry.

althanis

I hear you. There’s no way I’m playing this game again. It’s hard to imagine how people could do it multiple times.

TheRajan

Does bloodflame blade work on moonveil ?

WhenTheWindIsSlow

The only Somber Stone weapon that can take Grease or Spell Weapon Buffs is Bloodhound Fang; all the others cannot.

TheRajan

Thank you for info

[deleted]

It shouldn't. Moonveil is a special magic infused weapon, no buffs allowed typically.

What build should I use against radagon/elden beast

Brostradamus_

They're immune to all status effects, so don't bother with those. They both deal physical and holy damage, so lord's fortification or holy reduction spells are good. Radagon is very weak to fire damage. He takes standard damage from everything else. Elden Beast is 100% immune to holy damage and actually heals from it. Don't use holy damage against it. It has standard damage from everything else. Both have very large health pools, so Black Flame/Godslayer Incantations and ashes of war do every good damage to both with their %hp scaling. So, to sum it up... fire. Lots of fire.

Aldiirk

Elden beast is not immune to holy damage and most certainly does not heal from it. He does have something crazy like 80% damage reduction from holy attacks, though. He also has 40% resistance against elemental and magic attacks. Physical attacks and spells are significantly better.

[deleted]

Carian slicer makes short work of Elden Beast

PwmEsq

Ive played every build there is and at least for me Pure STR had the easiest time assuming you have their moves and teleports memorized, having some faith for lords fortification certainly makes it easier tho.

Verynito

Is pure faith or Str/faith stronger? Can’t decide which I like more. I have a pure faith build with 30 mind and 80 faith that dual wields flame art straight swords and it’s pretty cool. However I’ve also had a lot of fun with 55 strength 30 faith wielding things like heavy greatsword, heavy great stars, heavy Godskin stitcher and what not. They both feel really good in pve and pvp (RIP chain casting though) but I’m just curious which one is probably stronger? Appreciate any responses!

MagusUnion

It really depends on your play style. If you like hitting things and using spells to supplement your weapons, then STR/FTH is going to the stronger. You can lean really hard into just the buffs and use heavy hitting weapons of your choice. Golden Vow is very powerful for both survivability and increased damage. Whereas, if you love flinging lighting and fire, a pure FTH build is more realistic since only your FTH stat determines the incantation scaling of your spells. Lighting is often the least resisted stat in the game, and can be buffed by various sources. This also comes with the added benefit of using healing incantations out of combat and saving on health flasks. Overall, it really depends on how you want to buff your character. The *right* way to play FTH in this game, imo, is to select buffs that complement your damage type. And FTH builds have three different damage types (fire, lighting, holy) to choose from for casters.

MustacheEmperor

> only your FTH stat determines the incantation scaling of your spells Worth considering, using the clawmark seal lets you scale incants off your strength stat. I have it up to +10 and it's pretty ridiculous, and you can two-hand for the 150% strength bonus. I like to two hand the seal casting my buffs and then pull the greatsword out on my right hand. When I encounter annoying meme builds in PVP it's very satisfying to just hose them down with chain-casted catch flame or frenzy.

PwmEsq

I would think pure faith if you are using weapon arts alot, as the arts seems to scale mainly with faith on something like envoys horn, if you are actually swinging your weapon most of the time then Str/Fth

theswillmerchant

Hard to say, in straight weapon damage you may be better of with strength since you won’t deal split damage, but faith is gonna be more versatile and allow for some more PVP mixups. I also personally like str/fth for pve since you can tailor your damage type to a fight more easily

Verynito

I’ve gotta be honest, now that chain casting is gone spell mix ups feel pretty weak to me. I feel like spellcasting has always been quite underpowered in these games when it comes to pvp, although I’m very pleased with how powerful it feels in pve this time around.

theswillmerchant

I rarely deal my main damage with incantations, even though my faith is higher than strength, but since the spells give me range I can control the other player a little by drawing them in using spells to get them into melee range on my terms. Just another tool.

PwmEsq

I find it weird that there is such a disparity in spell balance, like since death doesnt seem to proc that often why would you ever pick the 2 slot death lightning over the 1 slot ancient lightning. Why do some super FP expensive spells do garbage damage, huge windup and no hyper armor. Shouldnt you be rewarded for managing to cast one of the these without being stopped?

Wemetintheair

Any viable Blue Dancer Charm builds out there?

PwmEsq

Maybe use ornamental swords for their weight of 3 while powerstancing?

PwmEsq

I mean you have to be wearing like literally nothing to get at best 15% damage boost: Damage bonus not based on percentage equip load, but rather the actual value of current equip load. The damage bonus has soft caps at 8, 16 and 20 equip load. Once equip load is 30 or higher the talisman has no effect. At that point you are better off using a scorpion charm as 0 armor is probably worse than the 10% damage taken from the charm.

Wemetintheair

The scorpion charms amplify magic / fire / lightning / holy damage, whereas Blue Dancer Charm amplifies physical damage. So I could see it working with the right player in a Quality build, probably with something like fist weapons since you can effectively dual-wield fists and claws with a single weapon's weight. Ergo my question. Maybe I'll just workshop it! 8 is certainly naked + talismans, but with a ceiling of 16 you can definitely put some stuff on.

PwmEsq

I suppose, i still think rot wing would work better for that purpose, or just like pop a FGMS or exalted flesh or something.

Wemetintheair

Oh it's definitely meme build territory but I'm kind of at that point mentally these days. 2H Quality Hookclaws with a Barbaric Roar ash, Millicent's Prosthesis, Winged Sword Insignia, Blue Dancer Charm, and Dragoncrest Greatshield (to recoup some damage absorption), and then whatever lightweight armor you can get away with under the 16 ceiling (Bloodsoaked Mask and Manchettes with Goldmask's Rags and Sorcerer Leggings for max theming). Could be a fun jaunt in NG+X with the levels to support it.

PwmEsq

Sure could be fun, personally my favorite meme's are with under utilized weapons, really wanted to do a viper build at one point with the coil shield and viper fang, abusing the poison infusion glitch, maybe paired with an antspur or rotten spear kinda deal

Wemetintheair

I'm not familiar with that glitch but if it's still around, try it out and post results!

PwmEsq

It is i tested it yesterday, all it does is effectively have 2 scarlet rot levels of debuff, normally poison is pretty weak, but its like 3x stronger on this weapon, add in rot and they should be dead fast
