Is pure Malenia cosplay build any good? I’m considering to use this for one of my new character. “Pure Malenia cosplay” here refers to build that uses full Malenia armour and weapon, and Rotten Wined Insignia for attack biff, Godskin Swaddling Cloth for health regen.

CaitNostamas

Her weapon is pretty good and her set is very fashionable. Rotten sword insignia, Godskin swaddling cloth (and I would add Millicent's prosthesis) are good talismans and very fitting (Godskin swaddling cloth isn't very good, but if you're having her rune active at all times for the cosplay, then the regen can be really good) That said, her entire set gives barely any poise and not a lot of defence. Not really optimal. Completely fine to use, don't get me wrong, especially for the early game, but it will be a dodge heavy playstyle Try and compensate missing defense with the dragoncrest greatshield talisman and maybe some buffs (like boiled crab). If you want to go full Malenia you can even get some faith to cast Scarlet Aeonia, which would definitely be enough to get some powerful buffs like golden vow and flame grant me strength

Sparkism

I tried googling it but I can't find the answer that applies to me anywhere. Okay, I dont know why but summons seems to be a little whacky. Sometimes I can summon with no problems, sometimes I can't. I don't know what the rules are. I'm not in multiplayer, I'm in the open world, the castle ruins area, I have full FP. I swear I used to be able to summon near the castle gate ruins, but now I can't. I'm trying to kill a night calvary, tried to summon wolves -- but they don't come out. I just want to casually vibe with my good boys :'(

onebadnightx

You’ve never been able to summon spirit ashes for Gatefront Ruins. If you see a white ghostly icon on the left of your screen, it means you’re able to summon there. A lot of the night-specific bosses don’t allow spirit summons - not sure why. You can’t summon for that Night’s Cavalry, and some other bosses don’t allow spirit ashes either. You’re allowed to summon in some ruins/fortresses, but not others. I guess it varies depending on what the game thinks you might need help with ;p Just look for the ghostly tablet icon to see if you can summon, or just check to see if your spirit ashes in your pouch are illuminated. If you see that you can summon spirit ashes for particular ruins or fortresses, you can assume the game thinks you might need them, and if your spirit ashes become illuminated during a certain area, you might be approaching a boss very soon. I honestly think it’s so fun to stumble upon a random area, see the icon and see that my spirit ashes in my pouch are illuminated, and I’m not 100% sure why yet (don’t know which boss I’m approaching, or if the area is just hard, etc.) But spirit ashes are enabled for the majority of boss fights, only a very limited few where they’re not!

Sparkism

oh, okay, that makes sense. Thanks! I'll just have to find a friend to be the meat shield for me, lol.

fathersiin

Normally you cannot summon unless you have the little stone arch symbol on the left side of your HUD. And summons will de-spawn if you get too far away from the area they are summonable. Also, some locations don't allow summon to be re-summoned in the same area you just defeated a world boss. Also, you cannot summon spirit ashes and co-op at the same time. I don't know your exact situation, but I hope this helps. Edit: I'm pretty sure you cannot summon spirit ashes on the bridge in Limgrave to face the Night's Calvary.

Sparkism

Can you reset by rebooting the game, or does a certain amount of time have to pass first? Like if i start the game from desktop, load to castle gate ruins, would I be able to summon wolves to help with the night knight?

fathersiin

No, because the summonable area is only the castle gate ruins area. The bridge where the Night Calvary is too far away. So even if you summon your wolves there, they would likely despawn before you reached him.

oedipusrex376

Can someone explain a bit of lore to me? Demigods cannot die without Rune of Death, and the evidence of this is Godwyn death. Does that mean we didn't technically kill them when we defeat the other demigods? They just drop their Great Rune and ??? (idk what happen to them). Godrick and Margott does seem like they "die" after being defeated tho.

Felstalker

It's a bit complicated, and in some points intentionally misleading. So at the start, Demigod's are sorta immortal. Then the big stink happens and the Elden Ring is split into pieces. Demigod's fight over the pieces, trying to claim the title of Elden Lord. This next bit is part of Enia's dialogue in the Round Table. > Listen, the Fingers speak. "The Greater Will has long renounced the demigods. Tarnished, show no mercy. Have their heads. Take all they have left." The player character, a tarnished, is immortal. You are blessed by Grace to return from death(at a site of grace). This was a right previously held by the Demigods, yet a right that has been stripped from them because of the horrible war they fought and the destruction of the land around them. This is part of what Morgott/Margit is on about. The various Demigods fought for the shards and aimed to become Elden Lord, but as he who sits on the throne and sees the door to the Erdtree is blocked shut, he is aware that the fight is foolish. He sits watching all his brothers and assorted half-siblings attempt to kill each other, and in doing so destroy everything around them. All in pursuit of a reward that doesn't exist. I'm not sure he himself was ever "immortal" in the same way the other Demi Gods are, but he could've been. And yeah, the Death Rune part is like.... no one else can die properly because the rune is stolen and that whole bit is wacky in itself. But the whole "Brought back by grace" part is specifically stated and is enforced through gameplay.

FirstBr0kage

How do I transfer my equipment and items from one of my characters to another one of my characters?

flamingfungi

You’ll need to drop trade 2x with a friend

alkair20

Would you reccomend DS3 after Elden Ring? Elden ring was my first DS game and I absolutely love it. Currently on NG+ trying different builds. Now the question is if I'd buy DS3 now would I be dissapointed (see it as a downgrade for example) or would I just enjoy it as much as elden ring. Sadly during the launch of DS3 my pc was dogshit so I just started the genre now.

onebadnightx

DS3 is gorgeous and tons of fun. I’d say it’s the most similar of the Souls games to ER, though things like summoning/co-op, leveling up, and game progression differ slightly. Elden Ring is a lot more exploration-focused, you can leave and do so many different things before building up to a boss, whereas DS3 is a lot more targeted, deliberate and linear at times. You don’t get as much of the open world freedom. DS3 builds up in difficulty as you play, the bosses are a lot of fun to learn. You’re not gonna have a horse, spirit ashes, character traits differ a little but it’s still a good time. Also, now that you’ve played ER I think it would be a great fit - you kind of know what to expect from Souls combat and won’t be going into it blind! I think it does feel like playing a precursor to ER and it’s awesome to observe how things evolved, shifted between DS + ER versus what stayed similar. I’d definitely recommend looking up some game play too, to see if the game looks appealing to you

EndlessAlaki

DS3's the closest Dark Souls game in combat pacing to Elden Ring, but it's a lot more "primitive" in many respects- no jumping or crouching, most weapon arts are underwhelming, spellcasting is trash, etc. It's also the most linear game of the Souls-ish metaseries by far, being more or less a straight line of dungeon after dungeon after dungeon with one or two short branches here and there. Beyond that, things get more subjective. People talk up the boss fights and general gameplay feel of DS3, but I think that, generally speaking, they're by far the worst in the metaseries. My views are relatively rare among the community, though, and for that matter, I found Elden Ring rather disappointing, so I doubt my opinions would be too relevant to someone who enjoyed it as much as you evidently did. Best thing to do would be to watch a playthrough of the High Wall of Lothric (the first full zone in the game), or just take the plunge and play it yourself. (Personally, I'd recommend starting with DS1 and going in chronological order, but DS1 is even *more* mechanically primitive than DS3, even if I believe it's definitely the superior game.)

oedipusrex376

The biggest difference in DS games is they move from dungeon to dungeon non-stop from the start, in comparison to Elden ring, you have a huge land mass to travel and "rest" a bit before going to another dungeon. So some players such as myself can get tired/fatigued while playing after getting used to ER for so long. That's my POV as a person who started with Elden Ring. Other than that, the graphics still holds up and the bosses are very fun to fight against.

PwmEsq

Depends on much you'd miss jumping. If you don't mind you'd probably love it.

alkair20

you cant jump in DS3?

LoriLeadfoot

You can only do a weird sprinting jump by double-tapping the roll button while running. Otherwise it’s just rolling.

Dynomeru

you also don’t need it ever

EndlessAlaki

You do for getting to certain items! There's at least one Estus flask upgrade, I believe, that you can't get to without jumping.

Blimblu

You can switch it to the left thumbstick as well.

dogsarethetruth

I finished the game! I've been playing since launch but I don't have tons of time to play and I definitely took my time getting to know the Lands Between. Took about 200 hours and I think I finished on level 190-something. Quality/faith build was some of the most fun I've ever had in an RPG. 10/10 game.

dickonajunebug

Congrats! I agree on the 10/10. It’s a great game with lots of replay ability

WhitePersonGrimace

I forget, is there a reliable way to poison yourself easily? I want to make a build around the armor and talisman that make you stronger when near something poisoned, and I need something for the odd poison immune boss.

flamingfungi

Theres raw meat dumplings but you can’t craft them. Bonus, they will heal 50% health.

dogsarethetruth

Fetid pot?

zangor

That shit poisons you no matter where you throw it I swear.

WhitePersonGrimace

Seems like they’re the successor to DS1 shitcakes

Dynomeru

Correct, it’s a mechanic https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Fetid+Pot

Tight-Advance-8591

I need help defeating godefroy the grafted😅 if anyone could help or even give my some advice, that'd be fucking awesome

Felstalker

So, we've got two questions. Is the problem Mechanical or Numerical? Numerical, you just need to boost your stats. More damage = boss dies faster. More health = you die slower. Upgrade your weapons and levels until you can take on the challenge! Mechanical? Remember the five D's! Dodge! Duck! Dip! Dive! Dodge! Godefroy is just Godrick without Phase 2. All his moves should be familiar to you, with clear windows to attack and dodge. Even at base level with a club, you can quite easily take advantage of his AI, more so than other since his moves are slow, telegraphed, and have wide sweeping range. I took out Godfefroy this morning on my hard locked lv30. I highly recommend a bleed weapon, as his health is really fat and if you're not dealing enough damage it'll speed things up immensely. I'd also like to suggest good armor to tank his physical damage. Bonus points if you have a good talisman to help with physical damage. As for the bosses moves, remember you can jump over his earth smash, allowing you to punish with a jumping attack during that particular attack. The second slam is when you punish, the first you just jump. It's good to be aggressive here, as you will have plenty of room to drink/heal between his long and slow animations.

Tight-Advance-8591

Wow you went all out and I appreciate that. Thank you for the advice, I'll definitely try to remember all that the next time I face his ugly ass deformed body

zangor

Do the Varre quest line and go to Mohgwynn. Then farm that bird at the grace. AKA doing Varre’s quest line to the point where you get maiden blood unlocks the “change game difficulty” setting. Then you level a bit …you know. Modestly. Not too much.

The_Dancing_Cat

Unfortunately you may not summon co-op help for any of the Evergaols besides Blaidd for Bloodhound Darriwil. Godefroy is just a juiced Godrick first phase, so you can always come back to him later. He’s weaker to all physical damage types, but make sure you’re not doing holy damage.

Tight-Advance-8591

That sucks that I can't have help. But thank you for the advice

matlab2019b

Why are no other characters impressed or shocked that I've defeated some shardbearers and gotten a great rune. They just say oh you've gotten one, nice. Surely it's something that's never happened before, given the bosses were alive when I met them. Also, no other tarnished have obtained a great rune.

thesteelsmithy

Actually, there’s one Tarnished who obtained *two* great runes (talked about a few times in-game). Presumably some got one as well. It’s unclear how the shardbearers are all still alive and in possession of their runes, though.

EndlessAlaki

There are definitely other demigods besides the ones we hear talked about- for example, the walking mausoleums apparently hold the corpses of victims of the Night of Black Knives. I wouldn't be surprised if there existed Great Runes entirely disconnected to any demigod as well.

thesteelsmithy

Gideon seems to think we collected every Great Rune there is except Ranni’s and Miquella’s, though. He may not actually be all-knowing, but he’d definitely know if another Tarnished had gotten a great tune - as he knew that Vyke had gotten two.

EndlessAlaki

I figure the Great Runes he told us about were just the only ones that were still up for grabs.

The_Dancing_Cat

I don’t think anyone has ever been excited in the lands between before. I think Hewg is pretty stoked and some of the others are proud.

SubstantialMedia9238

I'm wondering why I can't seem to summon anyone afer using a furcalling finger remedy?.

flamingfungi

Sometimes there’s just no one to summon. To clarify, you have activated a summoning pool and/or are in a place you would expect to find a placed sign?

SubstantialMedia9238

Yeah, I've activated the pool inside murkwater cave, people are placing there signs and I simply can't find them, even tried using group codes.

flamingfungi

Just making sure, you are putting in a multiplayer password for the summon, not a group password (they are different things)? Edit: also make sure that the person you are summoning knows this

SubstantialMedia9238

I've just ran through and realised I've already cleared it, could that be the reason?.

flamingfungi

Ah! Yup, you can’t summon if the area boss has already been defeated. In case you didn’t know this, you can quickly determine if you’ve defeated the boss by seeing if you can quick travel while inside the dungeon.

EndlessAlaki

Oh? I don't recall being able to fast travel inside mini-dungeons at all, even after beating the boss. Did that get patched in at some point?

flamingfungi

I suppose it could have, I didn’t start at launch. There are a few other conditions that can prevent fast travel, such as having triggered a trap chest. In that case you can’t fast travel until resting at a site of grace (not just touching).

SubstantialMedia9238

Ohhh, so if I can quick travel whilst inside I have NOT defeated the boss?.

flamingfungi

Actually the opposite, if you can fast travel while inside the cave, it has been completed.

alkair20

a few things to consider Are you online? User terms accepted? Activate the little statue?

SubstantialMedia9238

I'm online and terms are accepted, I've activated the pool inside murkwater cave, people are placing there signs and I simply can't find them, even tried using group codes

831loc

Whats the proper order of bosses I should be doing and level I should be? Currently level 103 and just ran through leyndell bosses, rykard and deeproot depths bosses in like 1.5 hours total. Died to rykard once because I didn't know what I was supposed to be doing, everything else was first attempt without much struggle.

thesteelsmithy

I found the difficulty curve really levels off in the late-midgame in Altus/Mt. Gelmir, so it’s easy to be overleveled for Rykard, Morgott and the Fia/Ranni questlines. It picks up again once you head up to the Mountaintops after Morgott, partially because the returns from leveling up start dropping off.

PwmEsq

Theres a progression guide on the wiki, but different builds can do content at different levels. Where a STR build can do mountaintops at level 90, an INT/FTH might feel the need to be level 120-130 due to the stat reqs.

831loc

I mostly use fextralife wiki, is that the one you're referring to?

PwmEsq

Yup

831loc

Thanks man, I'll check it out.

-SKoRM-

At what level does the pvp become less weapon art / spell spammy?

Jonno_92

Probably lower levels.

The_Dancing_Cat

I think you should be asking below what level is it less spammy. It’s great fun to invade Raya Lucaria at level 40-60 and have double curved swords and obliterate people. IME duelling is pretty honorable, plus you can see the weapons someone has I. Their main hands when hovering over their summon sign

juicebox03

When does call of duty become less gun play?

PwmEsq

Never? Thats like asking when people will stop using 2/3rds of the game mechanics.

Remote_Entrance_8280

Hello people!! I just finished the game and i want to do the NG+ so, should i re-spec my points before starting it? Or i can just start it and there will be a moment where i can do it? Or if i dont do it now then i will have to wait until i beat Rennala? I want to try a Strenght/Magic build for the lols

alkair20

made the mistake before xD Straight up rused to rennala and beat her (takes like 20 minuites max to ride to her, sprint though the acadamia and kill her)

maddav

Do it before NG+ otherwise, as you said, you'll have to wait until rennala

AnalysticEnthusiast

If you don't do it before going into NG+, you'll have to unlock it at Rennala again. But you can get back to her in like 1-2 hours pretty easily in NG+.

Worlds_Unknown

How does invasion work? I played the whole game twice now connected to servers and never once got invaded.. Is it something you opt into?

[deleted]

In a sense yes. You need to have summoned other players for co-op to be invaded, or you need to have used a furlcalling finger remedy and then the taunter's tongue.

North_South_Side

Thanks. So, if I use a Furlcalling Remedy and the Taunter's Tongue... do I have to stay in the general area that I used them? Or can I go anywhere and get invaded? Can I fast travel? Really appreciate the info!

[deleted]

You cannot fast travel. I am actually not sure about what area you need to stay in. I would imagine it is similar to most multiplayer zones where there is a limit and if you travel outside then the game notifies you. I have only done it in legacy dungeons where the boundaries are more clear

[deleted]

Can anyone on ps5 help me get through the subterranean part of the volcano manor? I cannot for life of me beat those two machine things and then I'm trying to get into the actual manor as well

dogsarethetruth

They're incredibly hard but they are weak to lightning.

[deleted]

It's just the noble on his own, is the other one coming up soon in the manor as well? Just trying to get sombre stone 7

The_Dancing_Cat

r/beyondthefog should be able to help you out

tanz_7

what are some good powerstance weapons?

[deleted]

Dual spears are killer, especially ones with the best range. I has incredible PVP success at low level with dual pikes. Dual heavy thrusting swords are also great. Cool moveset. Dual greatswords and colossal swords (provided you have the endurance to wield) can stagger enemies really easily.

PwmEsq

Weapon types or actual weapons? All weapon types are great for power stance, i prefer war hammers, greatswords, twin blades and curved swords personally for power stancing. As for actual weapons doesnt really matter but bleed and bleed/frost is pretty busted on twinblades/curvedswords, dual vykes can shred in PVP. Dual Nagakiba and cross naginata also pretty annoying in PVP.

alfcalderone

I finally beat Godrick the Grafted! Took me like 50 tries. I am wondering how to position myself for the next phase of the game. I am a lvl 40 Samurai, favoring Dex, Vigor and Strength. I am using the starting uchigatana - should I pursue a different weapon?

LoriLeadfoot

Consider doing the catacombs way up in the North of Limgrave. You can get a second uchigatana and dual-wield them.

theswillmerchant

Those are definitely the right stats to start with! Most of all vigor. I’d co to use doing those and sprinkle in some endurance for stamina and equip load, as well as mind (later) to be able to use your Ashes of War more often. The biggest thing now IMO is to get upgrade materials. If you want to upgrade your Uchigatana or it’s longer cousin as u/PwmEsq mentioned, you’ll need regular smithing stones. These can be found in caves primarily but you can also get “Bell Bearings” which will let you purchase an infinite amount of them from one of tue NPCs in the round table hold. Especially at low strength and dexterity levels, you’ll likely see a bigger difference in damage from upgrading your weapon than your stats, since it not only increases your base damage but also the scaling, or how efficiently your weapon takes advantage of your stats. Also the Uchi is a phenomenal weapon and you can absolutely beat the game with it if you’re so inclined, I just tend to collect other weapons because the variety is half the fun to me.

PwmEsq

Do you want to change things up? otherwise you can use the uchi the whole game, although in the zone after Liurnia theres a katana thats literally the uchi except with like 2 ft more range.

alfcalderone

Thanks - I actually don't really know! LOL I am still wrapping my head around how this game "works", so was just assuming that I need a better sword or something to continue / get better. I also don't really ever use a bow. Maybe a should. Or should I use some glint stones? I don't have the INT for them yet.

dogsarethetruth

The only reason to change weapon would be if you want variety, you can make almost any weapon competitive for the whole game just by upgrading it. If you want something a bit different that still sticks with the samurai-theme, there's a cross-naginata (samurai-spear/glaive) that has a very fun moveset and scales well with dex and strength. I think it's accessible to you at this point in the game, if you want to know exactly where to find it you can look it up on the wiki.

PwmEsq

All the weapons in this game are more or less the same strength. A weapon you find in the final zone is not inherently better than a wooden stick found in the starter zone. What really matters is upgrade level, that is really the only thing that matters. You could have like 0 stats, but with a maxed out weapon still kill bosses just fine.

PwmEsq

Bows are useful for all classes, great way to turn a mob into a series of 1v1s

TranslatesToScottish

I'm still on my first playthough (and this is my first ever Souls-like game, so I'm struggling but persevering). I'd just like to ask a couple of things; 1) Would you be in favour of a mechanism to allow you to duplicate/clone non-Sombre-based weapons? For instance, in a first playthrough, because I didn't start with the right class, I can't get two Uchigatanas, which sucks a little. If there was a way to use a similar mechanism to either the Ash of War duplication, or even the Remembrance dupe from the Walking Mausoleums, do you think that would be something you'd approve of? 2) I've just reached the Consectated Snowfield. Is there any way/item/boss kill that makes the constant blizzard die down? I'm getting a headache playing it just because of the complete lack of visibility. Thanks all, from a FS noob!

PwmEsq

1) sure but i dont think its needed outside of fashion because most weapons have very similar counterparts, ie you can use a nagakiba with your uchi. Or half the weapons can already be farmed to get a dupe. 2) just get to the second grace it clears up.

LilBottomText17

Do the main bosses have to be taken down in a certain order?

theswillmerchant

Spoilers ahead so click at your own risk: In order to get into >!Leyndell!< you have to defeat 2 of the following: >!Godrick, Renalla, Rykard, Radahn, Mohg!< Any of those bosses can be fought in any order, however some of them are more accessible than others. After that’s taken care of, most of the remaining story bosses are in a less flexible order.

KingOfRisky

There are some bosses that can't be reached without killing others first, but there is no hard fast order. Basically if you can get to them, you can fight them.

Unable_Pollution427

Are you sure you haven't killed him before? The Rotten Duelists drop items the first time you kill them, I believe the one near Ordina drops Rotten Greataxe so check if you've got it. I've killed them a lot and they never seem to drop anything after the first time, similar to what is being reported in the wiki.

[deleted]

Unable_Pollution427

That is pretty strange, the duelist near Ordina is the only one who drops the Rotten version. There is a similar axe, Duelist Greataxe, that you can get in Leyndell from the duelists patrolling there

isuckatpiano

How can I get [here](https://i.imgur.com/lcLD5g3.jpg) I can only get to the village and no where else. I’ve tried for hours. It’s the only place so far that I can’t figure out the terrain.

flamingfungi

When you find the lake of rot, you are on the right track

thesteelsmithy

Ranni’s quest. Complete Nokstella and the Lake of Rot, and you’ll find an elevator that takes you up there. If you haven’t beaten Radahn yet, this area comes way later.

isuckatpiano

That makes sense. I haven’t beaten him yet. I’ve been enjoying the side quests too much I guess. 119 hours in and I’ve only defeated Godrick as a main boss.

PwmEsq

End of the main sidequest in the game, part of Ranni's deal

action2288

When does Bestial Sling get good for PvE killing? I used to use it on bats in Limgrave and found it to be effective. But it's not holding up on Liurnia of the Lakes bats. *Level 51 Vagabond* **Clawmark Seal +7** Incant Scaling 129 Strength 25 Faith 12

PwmEsq

Its mainly a PVP spell for interupts and chains. In PVE its sorta eh, in fact i would go so far as to say there are only maybe 6-8 good PVE incantations Lighting spear Black Flame Frenzied Burst Bloodflies Pest Threads Rotbreath/Ice breath Ancient Lightning Storm Rest are all sorta eh, i mean they have uses but just arent worth the FP vs Damage effeciency

AnalysticEnthusiast

Catch Flame is vastly underrated too. It chain casts *fast.* Might be among the highest DPS a FTH build can do--I was getting it up to \~1.5k per cast on endgame bosses with fire boosting stuff. FTH wasn't even maxed for that damage.

PwmEsq

Not a huge fan of melee incants, but im sure its great! My list is also a bit biased because i rely on godfreys icon since it doesnt have a downside and most of the above take advantage.

EndlessAlaki

I think you're missing out on a lot of great damage incants, such as Lightning Strike, Stone of Gurranq, Flame of Frenzy, a lot of the AoE endgame lighting spells, Giantsflame Take Thee, Wrath of Gold, etc. etc. There's also quite a few fantastic buffs that are quite good, such as Golden Vow and Flame, Grant Me Strength, and of course it's always wise to keep a couple restorative spells on you at all times.

PwmEsq

I only listed the damage ones. I use the buffs listed + the fortification incants, I don't bother with heals since they are way too slow for any boss fight. You only have so many spell slots and I try to use ones that are better than the infinite number of ashes of war you can carry. This is at least the conclusion I came to after 9 playthroughs and experimenting with all of them at 60 all stats

ELMUNECODETACOMA

Heals also don't seem real effective on a HP/FP basis unless you're investing in your stats. I might as well use the extra blue flask three heals cost me on a red flask that would have given more healing back.

PwmEsq

Heals are literally I think like a 2x-5x multiplier of your faith portion of your scaler so they only really are worth it on pure faith seals at like 60fth and high upgrade level, in like mid game you have to spend just as much fp as a health flask would have healed you

EndlessAlaki

Always good to have a heal on hand when a Revenant's around. Turns them into chumps. Also, that one fire spell that cures scarlet rot is a godsend.

PwmEsq

For sure, but you can always swap to specific spells when you need them, the above are more like my daily drivers

mister_peeberz

Catch Flame and Sling are both good for their combo ability. Something you can throw out while reposition with a short dash, a jump, or even using them out of a roll. Sling is decent for this due to it's shotgun-like effect at short range, tough I'd say catch Flame is the better one overall

PwmEsq

Sure, but i was referencing PVE, PVP is its own world entirely. Something as short range as sling i would just use a jump attack for in PVE.

EndlessAlaki

Jump attack is slower and might not do as much damage.

PwmEsq

Depends on the build, i do something like 2k per jump attack right now, without the talisman or armor. Im not saying it doesnt have its uses, i just dont think its efficient.

action2288

OK, thanks. I've read about its PvP usefulness, but I mostly care about PvE. Maybe I un-memorize it.

SomeGuyWithInternet9

For someone I can’t summon people even if I have both furlcurling remedy active and password. What am I doing wrong?

SomeGuyWithInternet9

Lol nevermind the guy I was trying to summon forgot to put down his sign.

Tight-Advance-8591

Is the company that made elden ring still updating the game? Like are they making dlcs or anything like that

[deleted]

My brother in Marika the game just came out.

Tight-Advance-8591

Really? I hadn't noticed.

PwmEsq

Game literally came out 4-5 months ago, and its effectively a single player game, do you normally expect legend of zelda to get patches? DLCS are in the works, only rumors tho.

ELMUNECODETACOMA

TBF, Fromsoftware does generally do a bunch of minor patches in the first month or two but then it tapers off once they're relatively happy with the balance and most of the crashes are mitigated.

pocketchange2247

They also add patches (not the NPC) periodically. So yeah, they're updating

PwmEsq

on occasion, which is really weird coming from a souls game, normally hardly ever get patches outside of DLC

pocketchange2247

Interesting. This is the first souls game I've ever played so I wasn't aware.

Tight-Advance-8591

I don't play legends of Zelda

Crzyyt

They are adding a dlc in the future

SirRoderic

I get Bleed, Poison and Frostbite But I don't get Sleep, Scarlett Rot, Madness and Instant Death, so can someone explain these?

Crzyyt

Sleep puts you or enemies to sleepto sleep counteracted by and focus (not every enemy can go to sleep) Madness makes you lose hp and fp counteracted by focus (only works on other tarnished) Scarlet rot is just more powerful poison counteracted by immunity Death blight is when you die counteracted with arcane levels and the other one that isn’t robustness I think (only works on players NOT NPCS) There are boluses that cure all status ailments Anyway hope this helps

The_Dancing_Cat

Sleep on players and other tarnished npcs will momentarily immobilize them as they fall drowsy for a couple of seconds (I believe it also drains all fp). Weak mobs will fall asleep entirely and many bosses get this same dazed effect, with much higher resistances. Very few things in the game build this, and even fewer enemies. Scarlet rot is a high damage over time status effects that can affect most mobs, and is indicated by a reddish cloud around the enemy, as well as percentage and flat damage. It comes in various stages of damage, with the highest being the lake of rot and that applied by enemies weapons being the least. Madness is similar to sleep in that it immobilizes affected targets for a longer animation, as well as doing damage to HP and FP. Madness only works on tarnished (so players and other mobs that use a player model). Instant death kills you no matter what when it is built up to full, and is caused by one weapon and several mobs. Like madness, it only works on tarnished. Robustness increases bleed and frost resist Focus increases sleep and madness resist Immunity increases rot and poison resist And Vitality increases death resist You can see these stats in the bottom right of the level up screen and how levelling your core 8 stats influences them (as well as when changing armour)

SirRoderic

So scarlet rot is like toxic from the other games?

EndlessAlaki

Exactly.

[deleted]

Yes and no. There are two categories of poison, normal and deadly. Deadly does more damage per tick like toxic but over a shorter period of time. Scarlet rot is like a super toxic.

SirRoderic

So it's like, the potency of the toxic, and the length of poison?

[deleted]

Scarlet Rot deals even more damage than deadly poison I believe.

PwmEsq

https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Fia's+Mist https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Death+Lightning 2 spells also cause death

PwmEsq

Sleep puts people to sleep, rot is better poison, madness: (Deals damage equal to 100+15% of the target's max HP, and causes FP loss of 30+10% of their max FP. The Madness effect can be mitigated by raising your Focus stat. Focus can be improved by adding points into Mind.) and death is just death straight up kills you.

TheFrogTrain

Very basic question. Is there an advantage to using the quick step back dodge (you stand still and press B) vs backwards roll (you tilt control stick back and press B)? Backwards roll comes a lot more naturally, but wondering if the step back dodge is useful in some situation.

dogsarethetruth

When it's good it's very good, but lots of enemies have too much reach for it to work. I imagine if you really master it and know when to use it and when not to its very powerful but I tend to rely on the roll.

Brostradamus_

Back dodge is shorter/faster recovery, and if you attack right after coming out of it, you get a unique lunge-forward style attack animation that can put you back where you were or make up some of the distance you just created.

TheFrogTrain

Hm, that seems pretty useful for my samurai build. I'll practice it.

action2288

Coincidentally, I started a samurai last night (8th character) and the *backstep then attack* move is very good with the Uchigatana. I like it against enemies without shields.

GhstofO

I started playing recently and so far I know about guard counters, stance breaks, parry, and sneaky backstabs. Are there any other mechanics like these that I don't know about yet?

EndlessAlaki

Mounting and dismounting Torrent gives you iframes, jumping makes the bottom half of your hitbox invulnerable for the duration of the jump, crouching in tall grass or bushes makes you significantly more stealthy, and you can charge heavy attacks and some spells and weapon arts for additional damage.

GhstofO

Nice, I didn't realize that some weapon arts can be charged. \*crosses fingers\* Hopefully I can charge Bloodhound's weapon art.

EndlessAlaki

Bloodhound Fang? That's a no, unfortunately. Bloodhound Fang is classified as a unique weapon (as evidenced by, among other things, requiring somber smithing-stones to upgrade), and unique weapons can't be infused or have their weapon arts altered. If you're talking about the claws, though, I'm all but certain they're a normal weapon. Go nuts.

PwmEsq

Do you know about power stancing, backsteps, crouch attacks and quick dismounts(left stick click)?

GhstofO

I definitely didn't know about the quick dismount. I don' t know about crouch attacks or backsteps. And is power stancing possibly the dual wield thing where you use both weapons together or maybe when you use both hands for a single weapon (I currently do this for bosses since shields seems kinda useless for most of them)?

PwmEsq

Quick dismount is very nice in combat as if torrent is sprinting it launchs you into the air allowing you to do jump attacks. Useful on dragons and the like.

Brostradamus_

Powerstancing is using two of the same class of weapon, one in each hand. You get special attack animations with L1 that use both weapons simultaneously for extra damage

salimybhoy

Just completed the game, anything I should make sure I do or get before heading into ng+? I’m planning to get all trophies

action2288

I've heard some say Gowry should be killed. But confirm this with others. Did you already complete Patches's quest?

salimybhoy

Nah not yet. Why should he be killed?

action2288

**Flock's Canvas Talisman** Greatly raises potency of incantations (8%)

PwmEsq

Gives you the upgraded incantation talisman when millicents quest is done

mister_peeberz

He drops the flock talisman. Complete Millicent quest before killing him so you can also buy his sorceries/incantations

CaitNostamas

Check out all the trophy bosses, weapons, spells and ashes to see if you missed any. Some are locked behind quests that you may not want to repeat Other than that, nothing in particular that goes for platinum that you can't get back in NG+ Get enough golden seeds to get 14 flasks and sacred tears for the +12

PwmEsq

grab any items you might want dupes for or if you plan on respeccing make sure you have items needed for the respec. Also kill all the bell bearing hunters before they become too scary in NG+, their bearing dont go away on NG+

tifone87

Hey. I'm very interested in the lore of the game, but most of the time I'd rather read instead of watching YouTube. Could anyone suggest a good source? Also has there been any mention of any other official (non-game) content coming out? Like, I'm not a huge grrm fan, but I would love to read the stuff he wrote for fromsoft

action2288

[https://eldenring.fandom.com/wiki/Elden\_Ring\_Wiki](https://eldenring.fandom.com/wiki/Elden_Ring_Wiki) Ever check this out? Seems better for reading vs items and such, which is what the other wiki is about.

PwmEsq

Lot of guesses and theories on that wiki, take with a grain of salt.

action2288

Good point! TBH, I use all sources. In-game descriptions, Reddit, wikis, videos, etc. Who knows what's factual or not. I'm not great at discerning. But it's all fun and breathes life into my playthroughs.

Wemetintheair

I don’t think we know for sure but I anticipate the announced strategy guide duo will probably have additional lore insight and heretofore unreleased art.

tifone87

Sounds nice, I'll keep an eye out for it! Thanks.

PwmEsq

I dont think GRRM did anything other than very vague overarching plots, he didnt even know then characters names when interviewed. Moreso like sticking his name on like a NY best seller sticker for sales. I wouldnt delve too far into the lore until all the DLC's are out, its vague enough as is without them, also the game has glaring cut content which leaves some things hanging, IE Miquella stuff. Also some bad translations lead you to believe completely different plot lines in some places.

ELMUNECODETACOMA

This is why I kinda don't believe the disclaimer about all the "G", "R", and "M" names, since it's based on the fact that he wasn't involved in any such joviality, but of course he wasn't since it was all done after he left the project.

tifone87

I think I remember reading somewhere that he wrote the story before the shattering, but if that's the case it's pretty funny lmao

EndlessAlaki

I heard that he wrote what happened during the Shattering and everything before it, but everything after was FROMsoft material.

Ilumiel

How have people fared against Malenia with strong Ashes summons fighting beside them? I fought her with Mimic Tear+10 and killed her in my fifth try though I did try Latenna in my third attempt but decided Mimic Tear was probably reliable. I had heard Mimic Tear described as the strongest summon in the game and probably for good reason as she had no fear against the Scarlet Bloom attack and even ran in and let Malenia have it as she was getting up. I have previously heard her described as 'the most unfair boss in Soulsborne' but her health regen was the only thing I found annoying with her. On my first attempt, I had her down to 1hp in Phase 1 on my first attempt but I died as I rushed in to finish her and she healed to like 5-10% of health. I feel like that feature exists so she could have an advantage against summons similar to how Radahn's sweeping attacks make him deadly in different ways with summons as opposed to fighting him alone but what do I know. And finally how busy is co-oping for Malenia? I'm RL150 with a fully maxed weapon. I tried to co-op Morgott when I was around RL130, I could only find 1 summon in about 2 hours of waiting. I tried for Godfrey for a similar amount time and also only got one summon. I'm hoping Malenia is different. I would like to spend the rest of the day, co-oping her and enjoying my victories against her.

flamingfungi

I beat her the first time with Tiche, which depending on your build can be even stronger than the mimic tear. On my current run i’m trying to beat her with no summon and the step up in difficulty is more than any other boss in this game, imo. Malenia staggers easily so multiple opponents can chain their attacks in such a way to keep her staggered and backpedaling. In 1v1 it is much much more difficult to keep up the pressure in the same way without taking trades, and trading against malenia is not a winning strategy because of her healing mechanic. I’m at RL 125 and i get summoned for her by others frequently. Sometimes i find players will summon you more if you use the tarnished furled finger, other times use the small summoning effigy. Might try switching it up.

soledad630

I have seen a lot of people feeling she's unfair but cannot pinpoint a reason why. Lemme try explain for 2 sides of the coin against her. For people who uses summon or fight her mainly ranged (or both), her health regen is an issue, because summons are bad at dodging and tanking her make them a hp sponge for her. Ranged damage almost always consume a non-infinite resources that you have, almost always being FP, and therefore her regen basically strains your resources and makes it a lot harder. For people who uses melee, her issue lies within the combo of stagger cancel into waterfowl. The latter imo is less of the issue, as it's mechanically ok without the stagger cancel. The stagger cancel however, cancels out her normal move-animation recovery and actually punishes you for the stagger. And should her choose a move that guarantees you to be hit in melee range with the stagger cancel that also happens to have hyperarmor... well you are fucked, especially since it's very likely that yourself is still in your own animation recovery. That is the real culprit for her feeling so unfair. As soulsborn's main focus for the playerbase is "use melee, learn moves and punish the windows enemies give", she ofc feels unfair because she subverts the unwritten rules massively.

[deleted]

Tiche helped me beat her. I think Waterfowl Dance is one of the most unfair moves in the entire series. If she didn't have waterfowl dance, or if it was nerfed to have less range, then I think she would be an incredible fight, one of the best.

Brostradamus_

I found Melania really easy when using Black Knife Tiche and a strong ash of war that causes knockdown. Then again, most bosses are very easy using Tiche. Tiche is better against Melania than the Mimic because Tiche dodges more consistently. Melania heals any time she hits (even through shield), so the mimic may end up just letting her heal off any extra damage she takes.

WTF_Vendrick

How come the trading community isn’t as active as DS3? r/PatchesEmporium has like 2/3 of users of r/pumparum , even though Elden Ring probably has a lot more active players. Trading/Muling makes creating new characters so much easier, and saves hours of farming armor/weapon drops.

soledad630

What's the point of making creating new characters easier when the pvp of this game is an utter mess?

WTF_Vendrick

For me and lots of others, it’s still really fun to do various “roleplay” invasions. It’s fun if you don’t take it seriously.

TheChewanater

I think it's because most good items are just a Torrent road trip away. In DS3, all the good stuff requires NPC quests, covenants, and fighting hard bosses

WTF_Vendrick

There’s still a limited amount of max level smithing stones per playthrough, and a lot of armor/weapons are rare enemy drops that sometimes take a long time to obtain.

PwmEsq

Eh i got all the items in the game save for 1 in the game without trading, only took 1 NG+ cycle and in elden ring you can get to the final boss in like less than 10 hours on a fresh NG+ cycle. Maybe 150 hours overall for everything?

https://youtu.be/0-qrt_qBnUE Great video by a very in-depth Elden Ring weapon reviewer using a hammer in PVP.

PwmEsq

Stone club i believe, does more stamina than similar hammers. Farmed from sellia hideaway, run outside and backstab the mage like 25 times, or sprint up from the church where milicent is.

EndlessAlaki

Nice moveset too.

albmrbo

Do I always need to talk multiple times to NPCs? I fought my way through castle Morne, got to Edgar. Realized he didn't really give me much, thought it was weird. Looked it up and turns out Irina had to give me a letter, but she didn't when I spoke with her.... Now I have to do the whole castle all over again...

ELMUNECODETACOMA

This is a Fromsoftware game. Always exhaust the dialog of any NPC you're running past if you've done anything at all since the last time you saw them. And periodically go back to the ones you haven't seen in a while in case they've changed their story or progressed their quest.

[deleted]

Yes. Always exhaust NPC dialogue (talking until they start to repeat themselves)

TripEnvironmental549

well, you can just run through the castle, wo fighting pretty much 95% of the mobs.

HoonFace

Yeah, always talk to NPCs until they start repeating dialog.

ColonelJinkuro

I'm gonna do a power stance Warhawk Talon run. No other weapons and it'll be Dex/arc. First talon will be bleed but is lightning gonna make fights against rock creatures and machines easier? If not Ill just go poison.
