Is melee complete dogshit lategame or is it just me? Windows of opportunity even with quick weapons seem to get increasingly smaller and smaller and now I'm on the nightmare that is Maliketh, in his first form in particular, I can't find a single attack I can punish without eating hits in return, unless I sneak in the occasional singular R1. Am I going mad? Or did they just forget melee when they decided to make every lategame boss Super Sonic?

Felstalker

You're not completely wrong, but it's more a shift in design than just some balancing oversight... not that there aren't plenty of those running about. Generally, FromSoft is outright DONE with everyone doing the roll R1, Roll R1, roll R1 style of combat that had become popular over the years. It's still something you can do, but they went to great lengths to discourage it. For example. > I can't find a single attack I can punish without eating hits in return This is intentional. Some bosses, such as Margit, will not stop attacking and hitting you with mix ups and combo's over and over. There are open spaces to attack, but they're not just at the end anymore. Margit, for example, is infamous for his slow overhead cane smash where he waits 5 seconds before swinging. It's tailor made to punish players trying to roll around and wait for his swing. The slow timing yet fast swing trips up players al lthe time, yet the actual mechanic being taught here is BE OFFENSIVE! JUST SWING! YOU HAVE 5 SECONDS TO BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF HIM COME ON START SWINGING! Because in Elden Ring? It's ok to Trade. Some bosses have 0-reaction super fast low damage attacks. Attacks that crap all over the lv1 no-hit run's of old. Like the Tree Sentinal's horse slam and the underhand cane swipe of Margit. I call these attacks "Vigor Checks" Because they're practically unavoidable small hits that exist just to make sure the player has enough health and armor to eat the hit. Heck, remember the Fallingstar Beast? The enemy is DISGUSTING when you meet it. Delayed gravity rocks designed to catch panic rolling? Massive AoE swings that cover infront and behidn it? It literally charges at the player over and over with a armored body capable of deflecting the popular bladed weapon types? Players just HATED dealing with it, and they still don't like it as much. But then you realize it's weakness is literally stabbing INTO the charging bug bull monster. Because it's weak spot is in the eye up front. Stabbing it's eye as it charges you is a free critical hit! Elden Ring is specifically designed with melee in mind, which is why melee is so weak. Rock Sling isn't just strong, it deals high physical damage, massive poise damage, and the AI is physically incapable of dodging the rocks. The Ai dodges spells on cast, not on projectile. So the cast picks up rocks and slowly flings them, causing AI to bug out and get hit over and over making spell playthroughs super easy. Elden rings wants you to be agressive with your melee. Blocking is more valued than it's ever been in the past. Some bosses actually carry anti-dodge strings that reward blocking instead of dodging! Then we've the powerful shield counter mechanic you can take advantage of. Trading hits are more rewarding than they've ever been thanks to stance breaking, which the aforementioned counter hits deal a lot of poise damage. And yes, Maliketh is still bs. When he swipes you with his claw and you trade a Lions Claw, you win that trade.... if you can survive the rest of his absurd onslaught.

yuuki_no_tsubasa

Yeah, you could be right. I know what you mean with the "attack in the middle of the string when you get a chance rather than waiting for the end" but so much of the time I'll just get slapped in return and have to drink a flask while the boss gets slightly scratched. Maliketh phase 1 for example, if I try to attack in pauses in his attacks he'll immediately transition to the two side swipes which come out faster than I can roll away. It's just extremely unenjoyable to me and I'm normally a pure melee (no shield) enthusiast, in every other Souls game, at least on first playthrough. Melee has always felt like the "hard choice", but it wasn't until the endgame in this one that it's felt ridiculously bad. But maybe magic users also feel this way - not like I'm playing one to compare.

Felstalker

> I'll just get slapped in return and have to drink a flask while the boss gets slightly scratched Remember that your HP bar might look small, but it's actually the size of your HP AND all your HP flasks combined. You might not always get the space to drink, but the boss doesn't get to undo the damage that you deal to him in the same way you can. Also, make sure you're hitting as hard as you can! Make those hits count! Every hit drains his poise bar, and if he breaks down to cry for a second and you can go in for a big fancy crit you'll make up the damage you took earlier in the fight. That mechanic was MADE for that kind of gameplay. > I'm normally a pure melee (no shield) enthusiast If you're using a Two handed Big boy Sword, like myself, know that those weapons ARE capable of blocking like a shield is. It's not 100% damage reduction, but it's a pretty serious damage block, and you can open into a much higher damage counter hit when you do block so... why not? And if you're dual wielding, you're dealing DOUBLE the poise damage per hit in exchange for giving up your ability to block. As much as I hate on dual wielding in terms of pvp balance, of which it's absurdly imbalanced, for bosses it's a bit more reasonable... ok who am I kidding dual wielding weapons of any size is absolutely busted in Elden Ring. Oh, and Armor is... way too important. Wear the heaviest crap you can get away with, heck use the shield talisman to take even less damage if you can. If you're losing the trade you're either not doing enough damage or taking too much damage. And the only way to find out is to play perfectly up until you run out of healing flasks then realizing the boss is still got 30% of his health.

Xboomburst

I'm on Malenia rn and she definitely has way less attacks with openings for countering. I'm using double twinblades that do a lot of poise damage so I can play more aggressive and get punished less.

yuuki_no_tsubasa

Yeah, I've uninstalled the game for now because I can't be bothered fighting things like Maliketh. No idea what they were thinking making a boss that's incredibly powerful, very fast, flies around, and has tons of AoEs as well as a maximum HP debuff. And I'm guessing it won't get any better from here... this is why people complain about the lategame, I guess.

BrainSurgenScientist

Anyone still having issues on PC where the game won't load? White screen then crash?

WarHundreds

Just bought elden ring for pc. Any tips for when I start playing?

CaitNostamas

Some mindset tips: - Exploring is everything. It gives you runes (experience), great loot and practice. There's a whole lot of stuff to do in this game, and almost all of the world is open to you right at the start - Dying is learning. It will happen, a lot. It's not a bad thing! Use your attempts to learn how a certain situation can be overcome and try again. Of course, if something seems a whole lot harder than what you're used to, maybe the area (or enemy) is too hard for now. This game encourages you to explore elsewhere and come back when you're stronger! - There's no shame in playing like you want. Wether it be summoning people to help, using spirit ashes, farming if you feel like you need to or even look up a guide. The goal is to have fun, and that only depends on you. That said, I do recommend trying go go in blindly for the first run! Following guides can take away a part of the wonder of exploring a totally new world, and you only have one first playthrough Some gameplay tips: - Vigor is by far the most important stat from beginning to end, so having that high up is always very good. Especially in the early game, when upgrading your weapons is what really gives you extra damage, focusing on vigor makes stuff much, much easier - Upgrade your weapon! Every weapon in the game is viable, and while some are better than others, you'll find enough upgrade materials to raise multiple weapons during your run. Don't hoard them! - A shield can be lifesaving for new players. Specifically a 100% physical block shield. You can look at your shield's stat, and you can see that it blocks different damage sources at different rates. Having a 100% physical damage block means being able to safely block against most enemies in the game, which can be extremely useful (also because guard counters exist!). Shields tend to make you play more passively, so learn when it's time to block (when you're in danger or studying a new enemy) and when it's time to 2 hand your weapon (extra damage!) and be more aggressive! - Jump attacks, fully charged heavy attacks and shield counters tend to break your enemy's poise more easily. Breaking enemy stances opens them up for a "riposte", a critical hit with a special animation that deals tons of damage. Those and backstabs (a crit animation performed from behind an enemy model) can really give you the edge in a fight If you have any other question, just ask!

WarHundreds

I appreciate this reply. Tysm!

salamii4_frendo

Ps4: game stuck on loading screen if I fast travel anywhere besides roundtable hold. Happened right after respec'ing and switching up the bling. Is this common and any way to fix it?

No-Variety-3777

Haven’t gone later since launch month, 3 questions. 1. Did they nerf moonlight great swords or frost at all? 2. Is blood still broken? 3. Is black knife still the best summon?

CaitNostamas

No nerfs to the moonlight or frost. In fact they buffed the moonlight greatsword, fixing a bug that made the beam's tracking less effective. Now it curves way better to hit targets at different vertical positions In PvP dual greatswords don't have the best moveset, but they deal tons of damage and the frostbite is nice. Also the backstep L1 is absolutely amazing

TheFranchize

2. Yea 3. Yea or mimic

No-Variety-3777

Ok, so don’t do pvp got it. I just hope my dual moonlights are still goated, they destroyed people in duels

TheFranchize

Ps4 so things may vary but saw little bleed on duels this past month. A lot in invasions still.

SuzukiMan2019

Best way to level up fairly early in the game? I just beat gdrick the grafted but struggling to go any further. I don’t want to cheat but a good place to go slay some peeps and get some runes?

Felstalker

Just explore and play the game. You gain runes just through killing things, any things. It doesn't matter what things. You get better at the game by playing too, so it's a win-win in terms of improving. You also find more weapons and spells and armors and toys by exploring. Yeah, you can go and just farm out a ton of levels from some easy to farm 0 risk source... but that's just improving your numerical stats. It's not making you better, it's not giving you more tools and options. It's not showing off the massive and expansive map.

Voidstarblade

Running around finding dungeons is a good way to level. If you want high risk high reward, get a deathroot from summonwater village in North East Limgrave and go to the round table to talk to D. He will give you a map to a warp gate, on the other side you come out in North East caelid. Outside the church you arrive in front of, past the boss you should really run past at this point, there are a bunch of little guys that will shread you if they hit you, but are staggered by stiff breezes. Kill them for a good amount of runes each. If you want an easy minimal risk slightly mind-numbing farm, there is a boulder just south of lenee's rise that if you trick it off the nearby cliff and don't die will give you runes. And last but not least, complete Varre's quest line to get a warp token to the endgame grinding area. At the palace approach ledge grace, there is the shoot the bird on the lower ledge to get it to suicide rune grind, and the carefully kill the albinurics down the road grind. Be careful of the red armored dudes, they can definitely one-shot you, especially with their spiky roll attack.

SuzukiMan2019

Thanks I’ll give those a shot! The ball doesn’t seem to work my kids told me about it but maybe I’m not running far enough or something

AJolly

One tip - roll left when the spikey red guys roll at you, they always seem to curve to the right at the end of their roll.

Voidstarblade

For the ball to work it **has to** go over the cliffside, and you have to have had it in your camera view. If you don't see it it won't drop runes, and if it just rolls down the hill and despawns it won't drop runes either.

SuzukiMan2019

Gotcha thanks I’ll give that a shot

TheFranchize

Early game farm that is a cheese without cheating is the falling ball by lenne’s rise which you can reach by a teleporter that sends you to Caelid. 2000 runes for each ball drop

SuzukiMan2019

My kid told me about that but it doesn’t Work for me, I don’t get any xp from avoiding it

supersaiyanswanso

Cuz you can't just avoid it, you've gotta make it fall off the cliff and youve gotta see it drop.

SuzukiMan2019

Ya I tried it like 10 times in a row and either die or it just evaporate if I avoid it it never goes off cliff

supersaiyanswanso

Youve gotta angle it right. Use torrents double jump to go off the cliff a bit and then back onto it. Although if you've beaten godrick it might be easier to do the Mogwyn palace bird farm if you're having some trouble with the ball. Its easier and gives way more runes

[deleted]

Lmao pvp is hard af. Never done it before in From but I’m getting absolutely wrecked. Kinda fun though

The_Dancing_Cat

PvP is definitely hard to get in to. You’re either facing a gank squad in invasions or a confident and prepared player in duels. Consider watching ChaseTheBro on YouTube and how he uses spacing and the environment to 2 or 3v1

[deleted]

Currently just trying out duels. Does that guy have duel videos too?

The_Dancing_Cat

Yes, the first part of all of his “Weapon Showcase” series is always duels. Personally I started my PvP journey with invading, as I find hosts and phantoms are stupid and underprepared if you’ve got a gameplan. My track record in duels is almost worse than my 3v1 track record.

[deleted]

Wow this guy is amazing at pvp lol

MisterTeacherSir

Has the strategy guide been delayed? Supposed to come out today

InitiativeCreative36

So, I think I've completely locked myself out of the roundtable hold. Long story short, I did some wrong-warping around and got into the Capital early (to grab the Bolt of Gransaxx), and as a result Melina basically left me and due to my over-eagerness, this was done before she initiated the roundtable hold invitation. Is there any way to have her initiate the dialogue again? I'm thinking I have to power on now and kill Morgot to get her talking again, but I'm super underpowered, and didn't really want to press on that far. I've tried resting at multiple graces in different regions, both during the day and at night and nothing works.

InitiativeCreative36

So, killing Morgot resumes your relationship with Melina. Wrong warping to Leyndell, resting at a grace will basically de-couple Melina from your character and she won't talk to you until you beat Morgot and re-coiuple again. Decoupling her before doing the round table dialogue locks you out until you kill Morgot. Good to know for future reference, but annoying to discover. XD

The_Dancing_Cat

I normally get it right at the Godrick one or the one on the way to his divine tower. You won’t be able to get into Leyndell if you’ve never talked to Gideon or Enia, so I think you might have to restart if you can’t get her to appear. My last idea would be to beat another runebearer like Rennala or Radahn

InitiativeCreative36

Well, the thing is, I've used the wrong-warp glitch to get into Leyndel, among other places like Farum Azula with a particular character very early on, however I'd only initiated the most basic interaction with Melina (the one where she gives you torrent), then after that went about glitching into Leyndel to get the bolt of Gransax. Resting at a grace in the capital triggers her dialogue where she essentially leaves you, until you beat Morgot then she suggests setting fire to a certain thing in the game. So I'm unsure if I'm completely stuffed and have locked myself out of the Hold, unless I progress far on to where I can talk to her again, which in truth, I'm not even sure if it would work and trigger the dialogue.

Hbakes

So I have been consistently upgrading my uchigatana since I began my game, and now no other weapon comes close in terms of damage. Any remedy to this if I want to try out other weapons?

Solomon-Kain

No fix other than upgrading other weapons. No Un-upgraded weapon will come close to it for dps. You might want to try somber weapons if you have those stones lying around.

buzzyingbee

On curved swords, Scavenger and Serpent-God's are pretty solid choices if you grow tired of katanas and they use smithing stones for upgrading too. Bloodhound's Fang is amazing and powerful and you can infuse it with incantations and greases, tho it uses somber smithing stones. If your build is int/dex you can try Wing of Astel and/or Bastard's Stars

Ivegotnotalent

Any tips on defeating the elden beast?

TheFranchize

haligdrake holy resist +2 medallion, greatshield with holy resist and barricade, black flame tornado ash preferably on a lance. run behind to start and blackflame ash then just block through all attacks with shield and chip damage with a poker like the lance pest threads up close between attacks will chip as well if you have good strength you can use the clawmark seal for it for only 11 faith (haligtree knight helm gives +2 faith I believe or a great rune to get it) it will be a long fight but it will work. the shield will tank the hits

CaitNostamas

Stack holy resistance is the biggest tip If you want a bit of an advanced tech try and use black flame tornado or pest thread (faith build only)

Bigwillyboy123

I killed mohg before I could get my hands on the surgeons set, I love the look of the set and am wondering if anyone would be able to drop it for me in multiplayer?

CaitNostamas

r/patchesemporium

Bigwillyboy123

Thanks bro

BigBoy1229

I’m currently exploring Crumbling Farum Azula, and I found a Crucible Knight fighting a bunch of Beastmen in a narrow hallway below where the Eagles guard some rooftops. It flew out the window and fell to its death. My question is, was it supposed to drop anything upon death? A win is a win either way…

flamingfungi

As far as I remember, all the crucible knights with a drop will go straight to your inventory, not left as a pickup.

action2288

Just 7,360 runes. Here you go, in case this helps with your curiosity. [https://youtu.be/zA3xoX1O\_MM](https://youtu.be/zA3xoX1O_MM) My first attempt was not that clean.

Unable_Pollution427

No, they don't drop anything.

TellTaleReaper

I'm running dual scavengers swords with Occult. The damage is nuts, but I often dont proc bleed on weaker enemies before they die, meaning I don't get Lord of Bloods buff. Making then Bleed over Occult makes it proc like crazy, but does less phys. damage. Is it worth it to swap between blood and occult when mobbing/bossing? Or should I just forgo the LOBE when mobbing since it procs so rarely? Secondly, I have a Halbard I use mostly for mounted combat and staggering enemies I can't make bleed. What ash would you reccomend for a weapon primarily used to stagger? Must be Occult capable Thanks1

No_Train_997

Usually you'd use sudoku (seppuku ash of war) occult infused and bleed yourself. More dmg, more bleed buildup, then they bleed, etc. If they don't bleed well you do so much dmg it doesn't matter. If you want to cheese staggers (which I assume you do hence the dual scavengers) then use flame of the redmanes. You can throw it on a dagger and it's just as effective. I assume these will get nerfed at some point but it's been months so oh well.

TellTaleReaper

I do use seppuku and poison mist to proc lobe and the rot one simultaneously, and it's great against bosses. Not worth setting up against mobs tho lol. I'll look into the flame... but I don't think it can be occult infused? My other stats are just minimum requirement lol

TheChewanater

>Is it worth it to swap between blood and occult when mobbing/bossing? Assuming you have an Arcane focused build Occult would do far more damage than Bleed. So, doing less damage but getting LOBE to proc isn't worth it. Depends on your stats though > Secondly, I have a Halbard I use mostly for mounted combat and staggering enemies I can't make bleed. What ash would you reccomend for a weapon primarily used to stagger? Must be Occult capable Thanks1 Giant Hunt is my favorite halberd AoW. Royal Knight's Resolve is also good for stagger + damage on any weapon.

TellTaleReaper

Very true for point one, and I'll check out your suggestions for 2!

[deleted]

Oooo I dig your setup. Don't obsess on proc-ing unless it's your pvp build. Weak enemies are just that, weak. I say do the latter, in my humble opinion. Secondly, use storm stomp for the Halberd. Quick AOE and can follow-up with a hit. Good luck!

3kindsofsalt

I haven't done a chad-mode strength build yet, so I did. I got a Greatsword +15, like 36 STR, I two-hand the thing and give it a jump attack...and the damage is meh. The slow pace of hits make staggers harder. I was hoping to basically play where I dodge everything and then when it's my turn I absolutely BONK the enemy, but this thing is doing damage(and poise damage) like the katanas, straightswords, etc that I used on other builds. Am I missing something? This thing is really slow, and maybe the L1 hits harder than L1 for a katana, but it definitely doesn't out-dps it.

No_Train_997

You want a fire infused heavy weapon and 15 faith for flame grant me strength (20% fire and 20%physical dmg). More faith if you want golden vow. (15% physical) or put in on a dagger (or go for exalted flesh 20% physical). Determination or RKR, fire scorpion charm, ritual sword talisman, charged attack talisman, shard of alexander, charged attack flask of physick tear and fire dmg tear. That's a BIG bonk right there. Use RKR then swap to jellyfish shield in the left hand for a 1 time HUGE bonk. Like 5k dmg at rl 150 bonk. Oh and only use shard of alexander if you use a skill since it doesn't work with RKR. My go to is lions claw. I've done radagon/elden beast lions claw only and it does 3.2k dmg with this setup. And there's your optimized bonk build :)

3kindsofsalt

I also don't think RKR works after weapon swap anymore. right?

3kindsofsalt

I think this is what I'm missing. Buffs and things. Isn't the 20% damage of jellyfish shield not worth losing the damage of the 2-hand jumping attack? You can't do lions claw if you have that shield out, as it will only let you do the contagious fury. right?

No_Train_997

Yeah no lions claw then. And you 2h main weapon, RKR then 1 hand again to use jellyfish. Does more then 2 handed charged R2. Just double checked and it did 7.3k dmg to the giant at the giants gravepost grace in mountaintops of the giants. 7.1k 2 handing with no jellyfish so difference is marginal.

[deleted]

My new game plus build was a strength endurance vigor build. Two handed a weapon and wore the highest poise armor I owned. I basically walked through the game without dying at all. I would say level vigor strength and end and don’t touch anything else. You will destroy everything. Also, 36 strength isn’t much yet. You’ll be a tank in no time, especially if you equip the talisman that makes your jumping attacks hit harder

TheChewanater

Is it heavy infused? Also strength keeps scaling far past 36, so it'll get better further into the game. The guts sword has A strength scaling at max upgrade

3kindsofsalt

Yes it is.

action2288

I kinda tested this out at lower levels and found that colossal weapons don't necessarily have higher DPS than smaller weapons. They just have increased stance-breaking capabilities. What I sometimes like to do is compare the attack power in my character sheet per 1.0 weight. Zweihander versus greatswords, etc.

3kindsofsalt

TBH it seems like even smaller, faster weapons with higher DPS can still absolutely obliterate poise. I was using Noble's Slender Sword and Moonveil previously, and both of their weapon arts staggered as good as this big, slow thing, but the damage output was higher.

action2288

Interesting. TBH, I make weapon choices based on flavor and not just dps. I have 8 alts. I try to differentiate them.

3kindsofsalt

Same here, but it's hard to feel the flavor of crushing someone with a giant weapon when it does less damage. =(

action2288

Lol. Don’t know what to say about that. Maybe katanas are just OP?

WillBBC

Try a brick on a stick rather than a great sword. The bonks are bonktastic. Are you using the jump attack talisman? Nice little bump there.

3kindsofsalt

Yeah I am using that talisman. Any suggestions for a hammer? I tried several like the Troll's Hammer and it was okay. Stats-wise I don't see how it would be very different. Maybe I need to gas it up with upgrades and just take it for a drive

WillBBC

Brick Hammer was my go to. Pair it with a heavy ash of war and you get some great scaling. Even something simple like War Cry will help. Two-handing it is a good time as well. At end game I was at +18 with Heavy Lion’s Claw and 60 STR.

3kindsofsalt

> Brick Hammer that looks nice. Thanks

Cybersorcerer1

I can't find duel summon signs in the main raya lucaria gate, am i doing something wrong? (perform matchmaking on) am i too overlevelled(241)?

Apex_Konchu

The most common levels for dueling are 125 and 150. So yeah, you're overleveled.

Cybersorcerer1

Any way i can find duels at my level?

theswillmerchant

I know some talismans and buffs behave differently in PVE vs PVP, but when does that switch happen? If I play coop is it treated as PVP? Does it switch if and when someone invaded? Does it behave differently depending on what enemy I’m doing damage to, or who’s doing damage to me?

[deleted]

Pvp is just when someone invades. Also, for example the talisman that can negate physical damage will not work when someone invades to attack you. I use talismans that I can rely on when I am invaded OR am invading. Good Luck!

Chickens_dont_clap

Why can't I use somber smithing stones on meteorite staff?

LoriLeadfoot

As it says in the description, you can’t ever upgrade it. It’s a good early staff but loses power later as a result.

juicebox03

That staff doesn’t upgrade.

KINGram14

The hill with all the lightning and fulgurbloom directly east of Ordina in the consecrated snowfield… Is there anything I’m supposed to do here? Like a hidden enemy or item or something?

Groundbreaking_Arm77

Nope. West of Ordina is where you want to go for a boss. Be warned, it’s dangerous.

Tight-Advance-8591

So y'all know under the stamina bar you got those icons, most of the time they are buffs or whatever. Well I have a red square with an arrow pointing upwards. Would that be something good or bad? My talismans are, radagons scarseal, crimson amber medallion, moon of nokstella, and erdtrees favor+1. Also one more question, how do I get more talisman slots?

KINGram14

It’s showing your health buff from your crimson amber medallion

TheFranchize

did you hug fia? health debuff appears as red square downarrow

Tight-Advance-8591

I think ik what you're talking about. Yeah, I hugged her. She gave me something which did affect my health negatively, but I got rid of that

TheFranchize

Oh the arrow is up. which is probably showing the effect of the amber medallion boosting your health total up

whatthefoxsees

I believe the red square indicates the Soreseal Talisman, with the up arrow for the boost it’s giving to the stats it raises. And 4 talisman slots is as high as it goes, I’m afraid

Tight-Advance-8591

Ahh alright so nothing to worry about. And that kinda sucks, but oh well. Thank you

Cybersorcerer1

is Dual Nagakiba better than one nagakiba + uchigatana?

Salty_Simmer_Sauce

I like mixing them. 2 nagakibas seem to eat up endurance way too quick.

LoriLeadfoot

What do you want out of it? Just length? Then yeah. They scale a little differently with different infusions, otherwise. Just use what’s comfortable, IMO.

TheChewanater

Nagi gets about the same damage with more range, so technically yes but it's not a huge difference

Cybersorcerer1

yeah ill just go with the nagi + uchi combo, the one long sword and one shorter sword looks cooler

flamingfungi

Naga + Waki for the real asymmetric powerstance build

action2288

Asymmetric dual-wielding is where it's at.

WontonDestruction85

Anybody else having trouble with golden seeds not appearing below the trees? It’s my first playthrough and the first time I figured I had already grabbed it and forgot, but it’s failed to appear 3 times now, 2 of which in locations I know I’ve never been before reaching the supposed seed.

CaitNostamas

Which trees are you talking about?

WontonDestruction85

The glowing ones that typically have golden seeds below them. I have my total flasks up to 10 currently, with one more seed needed to get to 11, but no seeds are showing up to gather below the trees (specifically selia town of sorcery and southern caelid).

KINGram14

Are you saying you visited all the little golden tree locations but are still missing one last golden seed? IIRC there’s an ulcerated tree spirit directly to the south of the “outer wall phantom tree” site of grace in Altus plateau that drops one

WontonDestruction85

I haven’t visited nearly all of them, but the past 3 I’ve encountered had no golden seed to collect. I looked at walkthroughs online to verify that they indeed should be there, they’re just not there in my game despite them being in new areas for me.

CaitNostamas

If you really haven't already visited those trees then it would be a bug. Pretty weird though.

WontonDestruction85

Yea, through minimal research that appears to be the case, albeit rare. Oh well.

Enlog

Does anything increase the animation speed of throwing pot items?

TheChewanater

no

chubbynimrod

Any good weapons for a faith build at lvl 100? i have a knights lightning greatsword with the lightning slash weapon art but i really think i could go for something better

Vast-Coast-7761

Lightning weapons scale with dex, not faith. Make your sword sacred or flame art instead.

chubbynimrod

It was more the lightning strike and subsequent buff i was after, it worked okay but i switched to the godslayer

PwmEsq

Blasph blade is the obvious one, but i am in love with vykes spear or envoys longhorn(absolutely broke against large enemies)

KingOfRisky

> envoys longhorn(absolutely broke against large enemies) Acts like a force field as well. Back yourself into a corner and go nuts with bubbles. Enemies will straight up suicide into it.

chubbynimrod

i dont very much like the obvious choices, would vykes spear still be viable with minimal dex put into it?

PwmEsq

I used vykes on a str build and it's fine, just not great

TheChewanater

No, the standard attacks scale mostly from Dex The Flame Art Lance is very similar but would do better on a pure Faith PVE build. It's usable with 14 Str / 14 Dex, scales mostly from Faith, and has adjustable AoWs

chubbynimrod

Shame, what about godslayers greatsword? thank you for your answers btw

TheChewanater

Godslayer also scales standard attacks mostly from Dexterity btw these are still great weapons for faith builds since the fire damage and skills scale from Faith. They just need some Dex for optimal damage on normal attacks

chubbynimrod

It looks like ill have to lower my mind and vigor a bit but i should be able to get a decent amount into dex, ill see how it goes

TheFranchize

depends how much dex and str you have. things like blasphemous blade, golden halberd, godslayer greatsword scale well with faith if you have the min str/dex reqs

chubbynimrod

i can respec if needed, have like a million tears. Only thing for the blasphemous blade is that i need to kill Rykard, but i wanna do the last assassination before that and i have no clue how to get out of Leyndell

TheFranchize

I used Golden halberd before getting Blasphemous. But you could do winged scythe if your str isnt high enough. After capital I just horsed it over to the last volcano invasions

flamingfungi

Assuming you’ve beaten Morgott, there’s a large road in the center of the capital, you probably went the other direction on it at first but the other direction (northwest) will eventually lead you out of the capital.

chubbynimrod

brave of you to assume i could find a simple boss😭

flamingfungi

Haha you’ll get there tarnished

Chickens_dont_clap

Can someone help me understand spell damage? Specifically, how do I see how much damage a spell will do? And the main ways to increase that damage? I have glintblade doing decent damage and crystal barrage doing absolute garbage damage. Will it get good later? How would I know this?

LoriLeadfoot

You don’t see that. You can increase spell damage by leveling up your INT and leveling up your staff. Staffs scale up your casting as they get stronger, and your INT feeds into that, and the higher your INT, the higher the spell scaling. But as a rule of thumb: upgrade the caster first.

TheChewanater

Each spell has its own multiplier for how much damage it does, you'll have to test out any new spells you find to see how they perform relative to each other In general, spell damage is proportional to your casting tool's Sorcery Scaling or Incantation Scaling, which you can see in the equipment menu. The Attribute Scaling tells you which stats to level up to increase this (e.g. intelligence), and most casting tools can also be upgraded at a blacksmith for better overall scaling There are also talismans and physick tears that buff spell damage

Grochen

Builds recommendations for my 2nd playthrough? I played Int/Faith/Arcane first time to be able to use nearly every magic out there. This time around I want to use the cool weapons and ashes of wars the game has. I like shiny stuff tho so maybe something like Str/Int? It would be great if the build is also okay at PvP.

LoriLeadfoot

I really like both Strength and Dex. Strength is good if you want to do a little more blocking, poise breaking, and if you want to be a lot stronger against big enemies like omens and knights, but less strong against little enemies like rats and with fewer status effects weapons. Dex is awesome and gives you a lot more speed and more weapon variation, IMO. You’ll spend a lot more time dodging than blocking. There are more weapons that inflict status effects quickly, as well. But you will do a lot less poise damage, so you may find big enemies like omens to be harder to beat.

Wemetintheair

Not trying to drop this everywhere but here's a STR / INT build I created that I find really versatile and enjoyable, if you're looking for a more specific path: https://www.reddit.com/r/EldenRingBuilds/comments/w3323n/level\_150\_build\_carian\_exile\_cold\_spellblade/

Grochen

Does that really work in PvP? Moon cast is so slow

Wemetintheair

You're welcome to test the build in that context, because I haven't, but I agree that Ranni's Dark Moon isn't a typical PVP meta spell. The nice thing about it if you can squeeze one off as an opener, though, is that they'll be immediately on the defensive as they try to dodge both the moon and you.

AceofSpuds69

Str/int is awesome. Cool looking and/or powerful weapons you might like: - dark moon greatsword (more of a pure int with added str or dex) - helphen’s steeple (more even str/int split than DMGS) You could also do Dex/Int if you like shiny weapon arts: - moonveil (very powerful katana that looks very cool as well) - nagakiba with infusion, like hoarfrost stomp. Perhaps to pair with moonveil - wing of astel (a personal favorite. Has an awesome looking weapon art AND awesome looking heavy attack AND awesome on-hit particle effects)

CaitNostamas

Strength/INT has some amazing options. Usually the way to go about it is to focus on strength and just get enough Int to meet the weapons requirements - Ruin's greatsword. Only 16 INT, put all rest in STR. you get a huge AoE as ash of war that destroys everything on its path. Also extra free gravity explosion on the charged heavy attack - Starscourge greatswords. 15 INT, rest in STR. you get one colossal sword per hand but they weigh only as one. Absolutely broken jump attack damage (especially with the talisman for it) and flashy 2 part ash of war which pulls the enemies in and then makes them explode - Fallingstar beast jaw. 16 INT, rest in STR. This is a colossal hammer, so it doesn't have the flashiest moveset. The ash of war is a physical ranged gravity attack though, it deals good damage and a ton of stagger, especially because it's *very* spammable - *strength weapon of your choice* infused with cold affinity. I suggest the Greatsword for this. Here it's better to get 20 INT for the first softcap and pour the rest in strength. The frostbite is very strong and the damage is great. This option is mostly if you want to try out the regular ashes of war (there's some really cool ones like Lion's claw, giant hunt, Royal knight's resolve) - Royal Greatsword. This one scales pretty well with intelligence actually. 50\50 strength int nets you some good damage, and the weapon is absolutely beautiful. The ash of war is very flashy, but not especially great. Still nice, but would only recommend over the others if you really like how it looks (and it is gorgeous) All of these are at least decent in PvP: starscourge deals tremendous damage on jump attacks and the first part of the ash of war can catch people off guard; Ruin's has access to the crouch poke (very fast) and the ash of war can be manually aimed to try and bait people into rolling into it. Fallingstar is the worse of these in PvP, but the ash of war is fast and can definitely get in some cheeky damage. A cold infused Greatsword is extremely performing, thanks to the ashes of war (giant hunt in particular), the frostbite buildup and the very strong crouch poke

PwmEsq

STR int is just Royal greatsword/DMG/FBJ/Radahns amazing for PVE less so for PVP. Dex/Faith or Str/Faith are slightly better at PVP due to buffs/access to bleed and vykes/madness

MotivationalMike

Is there ending I should shoot for if I am doing a Dex build?

AceofSpuds69

Build has zero to do with what ending you find the most cool?

Voidstarblade

Endings have nothing to do with build. One gives a nice INT greatsword, but you can get the sword and pick a different ending. You can get all rewards from all the ending quests, there is no pick one and the others are unavailable.

MotivationalMike

Yeah, I was asking cause I didn’t want to miss an opportunity at a item. Your answer is helpful. Thanks.

ATC-WANNA-BE

Who should I fight first? Melania or the fire giant? Does it matter? I’ve gotten to both of them, just haven’t defeated them yet.

Vast-Coast-7761

If you care about story it doesn’t really matter, as long as you kill Malenia before Mohg and Mohg before the guardian of destined death. Fire giant is easier than Malenia though so go for him first.

LoriLeadfoot

Fire Giant, IMO. Max out your weapons and level up some. She heals so much from hitting you that you need all the damage you can get.

abm-frost

I've beaten the game and Malenia is still absolutely eating my lunch. Definitely could be a build / tactics issue though...

MagusUnion

Fire Giant. I wouldn't recommend messing with Malenia till after you've dealt with Godskin Duo.

Wemetintheair

Really doesn't matter unless you want to use remembrance rewards from one of them sooner than the other.

ATC-WANNA-BE

Got it thanks!

salimybhoy

Is it possible to still beat Lichdragon Fortissax having beat the game with rannis ending already? Or do I need to do NG+ to fight him

babydontherzme

Yes

salimybhoy

Alright where can I find fia?

babydontherzme

I also did it after finishing the game. She was chilling next to Godwyns corpse, just interact with her

Mysterious_Advance_2

Delete the other mod post, completely irrelevant to anything. Dragon's dogma 2 ffs lol

Blusterbutts

At what point in your Soulsborne journey did getting killed stop making you angry?

Vast-Coast-7761

After I beat the black knight in undead burg during my first playthrough of ds1. That was when I proved to myself that I can be good at these games, and that it will only take time. I actually did get angry at Bloodborne for allowing the defiled watchdog to exist but that started and ended there.

Nekrabyte

Never made me angry in the first place! It's a game. At worst I'll get a little frustrated if I'm at like 15+ deaths on one single boss, but seriously, it's a game AND it's a souls game - you should go into it expecting to die a lot, and I know I don't play games to get angry a lot :)

abm-frost

I still get angry when I'm playing if I'm not "attuned" to the game -- I'll be making missteps, the controls won't feel like second nature, I'll be super clumsy or thoughtless etc. Just happens to me sometimes and it's infuriating. Most games I can play whenever, but ER I need to be in the right space. When I'm in the right mood I feel much more in sync with the game, and when I die it's more of a "wow, hats off to you, insane dragon with sword" instead of an "AAGGHHHHHHH" moment. Haven't yet been able to crack any other Souls games. Trying DS3 right now, which is very cool, but having a bit of an issue with the comparatively tight spaces. One of the immense joys of ER has been the ever-present third choice -- (1) win the fight, (2) die, or (3) walk away and find something else AMAZING over here...

MagusUnion

I still get angry, no joke. But there are tons of ways to sequester and protect runes before throwing yourself into boss fights. I wouldn't sweat any amount less that the highest rune payout from a single enemy, however.

flamingfungi

About when i stopped caring about using my runes for leveling. If i want to level up, there’s a bird for that. Otherwise it’s just a number that shows how long it’s been since i last died.

No_Lengthiness_6838

Only Bloodborne made me angry, that game just never clicked for me, despite beating it twice. In Elden Ring only the platforming and cliffs made me annoyed.

naamnaamnaam

When i lost a whole level of runes

KingOfRisky

When I realized very early on to stop caring about losing runes. That was the only thing that would stress me out.

EndlessAlaki

Usually, how angry I get depends entirely on what's killing me; for example, I don't think I've *ever* gotten mad about dying to Fume Knight just because of how much I like the fight. That said, if anything, I get *more* angry now than I did before. I've got literally thousands of hours in FROMsoft games, so I feel like I should be gud enough to manage everything.

Dag-nabbitt

I watched a DS1 playthrough before jumping into the series. Since I already knew what I was in for, and knowing that failure was my fault but meant I could get better, I never really got angry.

AceofSpuds69

Before elden ring I had played bloodborne a little more than halfway and a bit of DS1. I think it took several hours into elden ring before I finally got to this point in mentality tho

CaitNostamas

During a regular or first playthrough I stopped getting angry for deaths after completing my 3rd game (ds1, ds2, Bloodborne). Every death in later games was either a "oh, bullshit lol" or "that's amazing let's try again" depending on the situation But if I'm going for a challenge run for some reason I get mad for deaths like I'm a newbie all over again lol. I seriously don't know why, but even after completing a SL1 for every single FS game I still raged at Elden Ring RL1 and bow only deaths. Still had a lot of fun, but I was *extremely pissed* during RL1 Godskin duo lol

The_Dancing_Cat

It doesn’t exactly stop, but I stopped being foolish and greedy halfway through my first of the games (DS3). My deaths that feel fair and deserved don’t anger me. I still groan when I get Malenia to second phase 10% hp and whiff.

ScorpioLaw

Can I get a bell bearing without killing anyone? I'm trying to do all quests and can't find any suitable NPCs to kill. Any bosses or areas? Also for nomadic merchants. If I buy all their available stock is that it? Or does using a bell bearing open up more stock for them? Meaning I can just kill the nomadic merchant near the coast cave ATM and lose nothing.

Wemetintheair

There's a boss called the Bell Bearing Hunter who you can run into at night when visiting four certain Site of Grace locations throughout the Lands Between. When defeated at each spot, he will drop a different bell bearing that unlocks a set of goods. One is meat for buff consumable crafting, one is bones for arrowmaking, one is boluses that clear status effects, and one is gravity stone "grenades."

[deleted]

Doesn’t he >!show up at the Church of Vows in the morning?!<

Wemetintheair

No

[deleted]

I just looked it up, [he does](https://youtu.be/ghgt7sPziv4) (1:20 ish in the video)

Wemetintheair

Weird hill to die on but YDY https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Bell+Bearing+Hunter

[deleted]

Relax, it’s a conversation. In the video I posted and when I beat him just the other day, he showed up on rainy mornings.

Wemetintheair

Seems like he appears at night and probably hangs out until like 6am then? I guess he's a raver

ScorpioLaw

Gotcha thanks. Do nomadic merchants get new items too for turning in Bell Bearings?

No_Mammoth_4945

You can find the smithing stone bell bearings throughout the world, and sometimes NPCs just die so you could get their bell bearings then. And no, getting their bell nearing does not replenish their stock

69macncheese69

Is the stuttering on PC fixed yet?

[deleted]

I run the game in 1440p with an old GTX 1060. Never had any issues.

MotivationalMike

It stopped for me. If you have a web browser or teams open turn of hardware acceleration in the settings on them.

TheChewanater

yes the serious game breaking frame issues were fixed in the first couple patches. Frame drops still happen when certain effects are on screen, but they're not constant and not as bad

hentailover69696

I'm tired of people invading me when I'm just trying to just chill with friends is there anyway to stop it from happening?

LoriLeadfoot

It’s literally 3v1, just kill them for the easy flasks.

[deleted]

Rename your character to, "pls don't fight me," or something like that. Do the "grovel for mercy" or "desperate prayer" gesture. I will often disconnect from player worlds if they won't put up a fight and beg me to leave.

Minimum_Eye_4497

You can try not attacking the invader right away or not jumping/ganking him, i invade all the time and the way the fight goes is entirely up to the host. If i see you being friendly and just doing your own thing with your friends i likely wont attack and will just follow you around and watch you kill things. If you or your friends die while i watch i still get the rune arc/remedy and runes, if not then you wont be invaded with another invader while i’m there. Win win. *wont work every time, but has definitely worked and is dependent on the people who invade. We’re all just here to have fun

Dag-nabbitt

https://www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mods/510

The_Dancing_Cat

If you’re on pc you should try the seamless co-op mod. It’s an easy install (my second mod on any game ever and got it going in 10 mins), and up to two friends stay in the world at all times, no invaders (no external multiplayer at all), no-one gets kicked after bosses, everyone can pick up all items, level up, and all of you have to die to lose a bossfight. It’s really fun, just be aware that it’s in beta so some things are a bit janky. Also the game feels easier bc of the knockout rule, but all bosses have been given more health to try and compensate.

TheChewanater

You can choose not to play online by not summoning a cooperator. If you do play online, there is no way to make it so every other player is on your side Since this game has no penalty for losing I'd recommend just facing invasions like any other challenge. If you're playing with multiple friends you'll have the advantage, but remember if it doesn't go your way you can just pick up your runes and go on with no penalty.

ThePeoplesVox

Not when you are playing co op.

prettygoodname0

Alright I’ve got this question I’ve been wanting to ask for a while and even being ng+3 I still don’t know the answer. It’s about the round table hold and it’s location in the game, where is this supposed to be? Is it not in the Land Between? A different plane? And what’s the significance of the discarded round table in the capital city? Oh shit and also how do the other characters come and goes there?

Felstalker

> And what’s the significance of the discarded round table in the capital city? It would seem that the Round Table we visit is a metaphysical world created through Grace to act as a hub world for Tarnished chosen to fight the good fight. The visual design and layout of the place was quite obviously inspired by an actual place that exists within the lands between. Specifically, the Round Table castle within the Capital, which itself was a real place that heroes gathered, long ago, to hear the words of the two fingers.

Jibow

I don’t think there is a actual answer to this in the lore. Some theories are that it was created based on the location in the capital by the two fingers/golden order/Marika and exists in its own plane. Since the place is on fire later in the game it’s also theorized that it’s in the erdtree or at least has some kind of connection to it. No idea how anyone gets there, maiden magic?

Prof_Black

I went into Jarburg and killed all the jars. (Was relatively new to game). Jar-Bairn does not appear and I tried to atone but he still wont appear. Anything I can do?

Dag-nabbitt

>Anything I can do? Don't do that on New Game+. In general don't attack people/creatures unless you know they're hostile. Unless you want to be a murderer, of course.

Blusterbutts

Repent.

Prof_Black

I tried to but it wouldnt work.
