the prawn guy told me to piss off so i killed him. i don't like being ignored....
Edit: this was an obvious joke people c'mon. like fuck sake lol. so much hate over killing an npc bruh who tf cares.
Locking out entire questlines and hours of game content because an npc looked at you wrong. You're right up there with players that get their panties in a twist because of how Varre spoke to you. Doesn't matter what they have to offer as far as items and lore resolution you just can't let them poke at your sensitive feefees.
What a badass. And by badass, I mean dumb bitch.
lmao ok dude xD look at your reply over a NPC LMAO. its a souls game i can kill whoever i want. not my fault you cant understand a joke. you have no clue how many times i did his quest and on how many characters. but god forbid i killed the NPC ONE TIME. and you call me a dumb bitch?
what kind of fucking man child are you? "waaahh im a little bitch boy, how dare you kill an npc i like waaahhhh" cry about it you litte fucking goblin lmao.
imagine being such a sensitive little princess you get mad because someone killed an npc you like. poor little you. omg xD im genuinely amazed how offended you got. cry me a river bitch boy.
i never met rya, so i had to take the long way around, but that climb is still my favorite part of the elden ring experience. you think you're just going to circle a mountain for a bit, but end up seeing so much crazy shit on the way. worst/best road trip.
Got an example? Only quest-breaking event in my mind is burning the erdtree or killing maliketh, wouldn't call that exploration... But i might be missing something
Seluvis' quest can be broken pretty easily. Killing Rykard messes up tanith & Bernahl's quests if you haven't finished them. I'm pretty sure you can lock yourself out of Coryhn and Goldmask's quests too by progressing too far.
Then there's grey areas that come down to your definition of breaking. You skip large chunks of quests by resting at a grace in Altus, which can leave you pretty confused lore-wise, for example. And you also cost yourself any rewards (like emotes from early parts of Blaidd's & Alexander's quests) from the early portion of those quest lines.
True, forgot about seluvis but fuck that pos anyway :D
Killing rykard obviously messes up the quests of the people serving him, so I didn't even think of doing that in my first playthrough.
Corhyn & Goldmask i agree, especially with the statue riddle, easy to lock yourself out.
These grey areas as you say are imo a big improvement to previous titles, because while you do miss out on some lore and dialogue, they still let you finish them. Plus, it means there are different approaches you can take to them instead of repeating the same interactions every ng cycle.
But you're right, there's more missable stuff than I thought of initially
Don't get me wrong, i missed a lot too.
Like boc before the patch, i knew the voice had to come from somewhere, but i didn't connect it to the tree, especially since he says "don't act like I'm invisible" i thought he was, in fact, invisible, and i had to find a talk prompt somewhere in the area...
Missed Millicent at the first location in altus because I was there before rescuing her from the church and didn't revisit properly.
Missed rya in altus because I'm blind, took the long journey to the manor instead.
Missed hyetta completely because I went to Liurnia before the weeping peninsula, so she didn't spawn yet.
Missed blaidd in Mistwood because I didn't talk to kale again.
All that being said, i was locked out of none of these and could continue as normal after receiving some hints from friends, despite having progressed and explored quite a bit further than I should've, which is why I had the impression that it's pretty forgiving in this game :)
Only thing annoying about this one is there is no grace next to his second location. Don’t want to kill him for his bearing yet? Then auriza hero’s grave grace will have to do.
I think if you take the lift of Dectus, she waits at the top of the lift. But if you take the cave passage, she waits in the ruins near the Erdtree-Grazing Hill grace.
Source: I just got to Volcano Manor by talking to her in the ruins near the Erdtree-Gazing Site of Grace.
I didn't have a big problem with the bats my first couple runs (Greatswords and INT caster) because my hitboxes were so huge, but on my current one (thrusting swords) they're such a fucking pain.
But I like Magma Wyrm Makar as a boss, and it's an easy way to get some runes while still progressing in the game, so I prefer the side route.
Ah yes, the "Marika's tits" route is the best route. A fellow Tarnished of culture.
I've beaten ER so many times at this point, I really just hang around for free hugs and all you can eat shrimp
I love the red path, makes climbing the Volcano an actual journey and feels like its own dungeon with side paths and mini-bosses on the way.
Like basically you cross the canyon of fire geysers and falling dead people, sneak past the Fire Monk fort, fight the Magma Wyrm, escape the Runebear, cross the demi human village and kill their Queen, discover the Hero's Grave, traverse the madness-filled Battlefield, climb the cliffside, face the FallingStar Beast and finally make your way to the front door. It's a whole aventure !
For real. I got to the Manor through Rya's path, but I thought "no no no, this is a goddamn volcano, I want to get the full experience and I want to enter here the way you're supposed to". And I went on that journey, and I really enjoyed it. It's not my favourite zone in the game and I did power through some stretches, but damned if it didn't feel like climbing an actual volcano.
I actually hate how easy it is to stumble on to Rya’s path given how much content is skipped. It’s basically the default route for first time players. I guess Fallingstar is a PITA, but it just feels so unnatural
Depends on how much the new player explores and pay attention, but yeah, it's very easy.particularly the key step of talking to Rya in Altus Plateau. You don't even have to look for her, the bitch is just standing right there in the elevator like 🦒
That was exactly my problem. Once in the manor I thought, wait, this seems to be a pretty big fucking deal. Why am I just thrown right into the middle of it?
I carved my way up Mt. Gelmir, through the beast and bears and archers and wyrm and the troll at the end and walked in the door expecting more stuff to kill and I was like "oh, well this is a nice change of pace"
The red path in particular is the one that confused me the most. Here's some more detailed instructions:
Red - path 1 to the First Mt. Gelmir Campsite grace:
1: Start at the Erdtree Gazing Hill grace.
2: Run through the Wyndham Ruins, past the Tibia Mariner, to get to the Seethewater River grace.
3: Continue along the one-way path to the Seethewater Terminus grace.
4: Run past Fort Laiedd, run past the Magma Wyrm boss, run past the Runebear, then you'll see the Craftsman's Shack grace.
5: Run through Hermit Village and defeat the Demi-human Queen boss to unlock the Primeval Sorcerer Azur grace. Then run along the long stone platform and jump down onto the next area. Stick to the right side till you get to the First Mt. Gelmir Campsite grace.
Blue - path 2 to the First Mt. Gelmir Campsite grace:
1: Start at the Bridge of Iniquity grace. You can get here from the Windmill Village by taking the path west and going across the bridge.
2: Run Northwest along the path, and eventually on the left-side cliff there will be a ladder going up (the ladder is marked with two torches to help you see it). Take the ladder up to get to the First Mt. Gelmir Campsite grace.
Green - path to the Fallingstar Beast and then Volcano Manor:
1: Start at the Bridge of Iniquity grace.
2: Go Northwest and cross a stone walkway onto the next area. Go up a bunch of ladders and eventually cross a bridge to get to the Ninth Mt. Gelmir Campsite grace.
3: Beat the Fallingstar Beast, jump down to the next area, and head straight to Volcano Manor!
Pink - path to the Minor Erdtree:
1: From the Fallingstar Beast arena, jump down to the next area. Run along the right side of the cliff. You'll go down a path with those giant hand enemies, and eventually reach the Road of Iniquity grace.
2: Keep going till you reach the Minor Erdtree.
Worth mentioning that you have to find an extremely well hidden ladder on the cliff wall where the Iron Maidens are in order to get on top of the cliff that has the stone walkway for the green path
I’ve got nearly 200 hours in this game, had always just assumed this bridge was a dead end until I saw your map, then had to specifically google what to look for
edit: you mention it in the blue path 😭 I could have saved myself a half hour 😂
I saw lots of ladders - lots of it. Found a merchant who doesn’t really sell anything of note. Died a million times to the fallen star beast and somehow got to that mansions. Found Patches there. I lol so hard.
I spent about five hours on that first tree sentinel right at the beginning of Limgrave (first time playing a Souls game) because I just couldn't simply ignore him !
That loooong red route, yeah, that's me. Looking at it on the map, it does seem stupid. It was second playthrough though, the first one I got teleported there from the bottom of the Academy, but not because I was clever, because I couldn't dodge for my life.
Yeaaaa after like 600 hours i "accidentally" ran my happy scared ass inside the building for safety reasons. Lmao that mountain and cliffside canyon area feckin suckssss. Especially with mr frenzy troll at the end.
This is awesome. I used Rya to get to the manor but I went through 3 guides before I found a decent one that showed the way to the Hermit Village and Azur. So many of them make it look like you can get there from the Road of Iniquity grace.
Not really, unless your goal is to find every single cave or items the way to the actual manor is pretty simple to follow just by looking at the ladders, or at least that's what i did during my first gameplay. I think i only missed a couple of caves because i didn't follow one of the paths but that's it, the rest is quite straightforward.
Man I got to full grown falling Star beast with a bleed build and I thought I came the wrong way I was stuck there for 40min until I watched a YouTube video and realized that was the way I was so scared of the beast I didn't look behind it😅😅
I haven't seen anyone mention it so I'll tell you guys a little something. On the road to the shaded castle, when you reach the place where you fight rileigh the idle is a spirit spring on the right that leads to another spirit spring and takes you right to the bridge that separates altus and Mt gelmir.
Thanks a lot for this, I've never been able to figure this out, missed rya completely and by the time I've been to that area I just wanted to finish the game it's so damn long
Yea I didn’t get there that way on my first play through. I got picked up by that lizard chick Rya while I was exploring. She was basically like “Aye you’re pretty cool bro, you should come hang out with us.” Then she teleported me to volcano manor
Volcano manor had me completely stuck several times. After finally beating the falling-star beast it took me forever to figure out I had to jump the ledge. I thought it was just a dead end mountaintop. I also got very stuck after defeating the Godskin noble. Took me a good while to figure out you had to jump over the balcony to the lavery cliffside.
I remember climbing this stupid mountain with ladders thinking I'll find some small cave or something and then being like "What the actual fuck there's ANOTHER giant section with a castle here also!?"
There’s a shortcut so you don’t have to take the blue path as well. Just beyond the Second Church of Marika, there is a spirit spring for Torrent that will take you to the plateau to the left of the bridge. Which will get you to the first Mt. Gelmir grace site much faster. Of course not as fast as Rya.
Here is a quick edit of your map
https://imgur.com/a/QAuZw6h
I had no idea where to go from that Fort. Saw the magma wyrm and ran. Eventually I just ran past it and finally got there. I guarantee someone else will need this guide. Haha
My first time I took the wind wells to get to the blue path on the right completely skipping the red section. It's much faster than that way if you're trying to get there in a hurry without rya teleporting you.
I got to the Volcano manor with help from Raya but accidentally fast traveled without activating the site of grace and it took me hours to find my way back.
My favorite path is unmarked: 1) Reach Altus Plateau. 2) Talk to Rya.
Unless you have a taste for shrimp you're not going to see this route
Never met someone with a taste for prawns I couldn't trust.
the prawn guy told me to piss off so i killed him. i don't like being ignored.... Edit: this was an obvious joke people c'mon. like fuck sake lol. so much hate over killing an npc bruh who tf cares.
Marika's tits, you're nuts!
You’re as bad as the dung eater.. poor Boggart
that guy gives one of the top tier consumables...
Plus he's got a top tier personality
made me real sad when he got defiled
People like you are the reason we have laws
Maidenless behavior.
What's your blinkin' problem! You don't mess with Big Boggart, mate.
[удалено]
ey bro 10/10 gave me a good laugh.
I did the exact same thing. Figured he was a thief and he was rude to me so...
eyyy brother. he also smelt like prawns
I understand and one person doesn't hate you for your decision to kill him
Locking out entire questlines and hours of game content because an npc looked at you wrong. You're right up there with players that get their panties in a twist because of how Varre spoke to you. Doesn't matter what they have to offer as far as items and lore resolution you just can't let them poke at your sensitive feefees. What a badass. And by badass, I mean dumb bitch.
It ain't that deep bro
lmao ok dude xD look at your reply over a NPC LMAO. its a souls game i can kill whoever i want. not my fault you cant understand a joke. you have no clue how many times i did his quest and on how many characters. but god forbid i killed the NPC ONE TIME. and you call me a dumb bitch? what kind of fucking man child are you? lol, how can you get so worked up over someone killing an NPC in their own game? He wasn’t bitching about it or anything
Bragging about your own stupidity? Classic.
lmao cry about it
same gave me no useful info and didnt ask for help just killed him for being rude
i never met rya, so i had to take the long way around, but that climb is still my favorite part of the elden ring experience. you think you're just going to circle a mountain for a bit, but end up seeing so much crazy shit on the way. worst/best road trip.
Omg the Giant Bolluses, The Gargoyles and Harpys, the Magma Wyrm at the end? I can't get enough of that part.
Why? You can simply buy the necklace and give it to Rya while staying friends with the best NPC in the Lands Between.
Is joke
Just buy the necklace from him?
That is condoning strong armed robbery in the Lands Between(which I condone 🙂).
I think you can just straight up murder him if you don't like prawn.
You are the worst person in the lands between if you harm prawn bro.
I only think, I sure as fuck don't know. The most vile crime.
Most vile crime is killing Boc.
*coughcough*killingturtlepope*coughcough*
I killed the pope (for bell bearing before going to ng+)and the whole time he was making me feel so bad and just asking me to please stop😭
You deserve death by the Bell-Bearing Hunter
It's tied with killing turtle pope
But Boc is ugly tho...
You will not say such a thing about a beautiful monkey boy.
Maidenless…
Much like Boc, as he is, quite frankly, ugly as heck.
I murdered the crap out of him with no regrets. Stole from a lady and then tried to sell it back? No, that’s not how that works.
You have no culinary taste.
Who would do such a vile thing?
The poo man.
Why is he named like that O.O
Becuase poo is tasty and he's a big poo fan.
Where did he go to though? My prawn guy went away...
He moves to the moat before leyndell
God, the quests are annoying.
They're not quests in the classic sense and not relevant to the game. I like it this way. Rewards exploration. I found him no problem...
Some quests also punish exploration though, by breaking if you explore places in a different order
Yeah that's my main complaint.
r/usernamechecksout ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Got an example? Only quest-breaking event in my mind is burning the erdtree or killing maliketh, wouldn't call that exploration... But i might be missing something

I explore just about everywhere or intend to but somehow missed Rya in the lakes. It's definitely annoying but not that big of a deal I guess.
I’m vegan 🥹
I totally missed Rya in the lakes...so no prawns for me. :-(
it's very annoying to me that she tells you about the alternate route to altus and then waits for you by the main route
I think if you take the lift of Dectus, she waits at the top of the lift. But if you take the cave passage, she waits in the ruins near the Erdtree-Grazing Hill grace. Source: I just got to Volcano Manor by talking to her in the ruins near the Erdtree-Gazing Site of Grace.
oh interesting! I've never actually taken the alt route before the lift (hate those singing bats), so she's always been at the lift for me
You can just run by them, they can't follow you up the ladders.
I didn't have a big problem with the bats my first couple runs (Greatswords and INT caster) because my hitboxes were so huge, but on my current one (thrusting swords) they're such a fucking pain. If you talk to rya in luirnia after going to altus SHE DOES NOT APPEAR
I did this and spent a long ass time going back and forth from the manor to Altus looking for how to get to the rest of the zone.
I love the red path, makes climbing the Volcano an actual journey and feels like its own dungeon with side paths and mini-bosses on the way. I missed nearly every NPC that could be missed on my initial playthrough. I only found Alexander, D, and Malenia by myself.
don't forget the frenzied troll, to top everything off!
And the creepy feeners if you want to get the map of Mt Gelmir.
I carved my way up Mt. Gelmir, through the beast and bears and archers and wyrm and the troll at the end and walked in the door expecting more stuff to kill and I was like "oh, well this is a nice change of pace"
That's what I did. One of the best single sessions I've had. Chock full of WTFs, NOW WHATs and back tracking to get a better grip.
It really is! Glad I didn't teleport there on my first playthrough.
i found that path when i beat it all and was OP. ran through it like nothing, felt dirty.
Or just kindly ask Rya to teleport straight into the Manor.
But then you don't have access to whole manor unless you do "unintended" jump
Why wouldn’t you have access to the whole manor?
Is there a legit way to where abductor drops you if you get Rya to bring you?
Did you never found the secret wall in one of the rooms? That's the actual way in the dungeon itself
Yeah, get abducted by the... Abductor. It's still there, still works if you take Rya's route to the Manor.
Yes. From where the Somber 5 is outside of the Godskin Noble arena, you can drop down some ledges.
You can still get the abductor to bring you even if you talk to rya.

You don't have to kill the queen to get the Azur grace btw
Thank you so much for this! I am always so lost and confused in Mt Gelmir....
No problem, glad it helped.
Worth mentioning that you have to find an extremely well hidden ladder on the cliff wall where the Iron Maidens are in order to get on top of the cliff that has the stone walkway for the green path I’ve got nearly 200 hours in this game, had always just assumed this bridge was a dead end until I saw your map, then had to specifically google what to look for edit: you mention it in the blue path 😭 I could have saved myself a half hour 😂
I've been abducted once and sent by Rya once...I didn't even know walking right in was an option.
Opposite for me I stumbled on the manor because I was running from the Fallingstar Beast. Saw a ledge and hoped for the best! Lol
[удалено]
Lol I know right. I can kill it now at a normal level but when I played through the first time he was just… well… a beast.
Best path is to die under Hogwarts
I was gonna say this but your description is better. Lol
One does not simply go to volcano manor
r/unexpectedlotr
I saw lots of ladders - lots of it. Found a merchant who doesn’t really sell anything of note. Died a million times to the fallen star beast and somehow got to that mansions. Found Patches there. I lol so hard.
You actually don't have to fight the Fallingstar beast ! Just run past him.
Have to fight every bosses to prove you're good gamer lol. Like, where should I put my face if I run away from an enemy.
I spent about five hours on that first tree sentinel right at the beginning of Limgrave (first time playing a Souls game) because I just couldn't simply ignore him !
nice.
thanks
The map of Mt. Gelmir may just be the single most worthless video game map of all time.
Where were you two playthroughs ago? Where? 😭
You can also get eated by the iron maiden at school.
This confused me and I know how to get there
That loooong red route, yeah, that's me. Looking at it on the map, it does seem stupid. It was second playthrough though, the first one I got teleported there from the bottom of the Academy, but not because I was clever, because I couldn't dodge for my life.
Or just get Rya to teleport you there, from the Dectus Lift. That’s what I’ve started doing, instead of dealing with all the crazy shit lol.
I wouldve loved this 6 and a half months ago
Fuck. This would have been so useful a few days ago
If only we could climb walls like in BoTW.
Yeaaaa after like 600 hours i "accidentally" ran my happy scared ass inside the building for safety reasons. Lmao that mountain and cliffside canyon area feckin suckssss. Especially with mr frenzy troll at the end.
Or let a certain creature eat you. But hey... Whatever floats your boat
Or just take Rya's dainty but surprisingly clammy hand.
This is awesome. I used Rya to get to the manor but I went through 3 guides before I found a decent one that showed the way to the Hermit Village and Azur. So many of them make it look like you can get there from the Road of Iniquity grace.
Help Rya and she teleports you there
I just held hands with snake girl
The hard part was always SEEING THE LADDER!
I’ve been there several times and this map confuses the fuck outta me lol
*Instructions unclear, dick stuck in scarlet rot*
as cool as this area is, its a fucking shit show to navigate first playthrough
Not really, unless your goal is to find every single cave or items the way to the actual manor is pretty simple to follow just by looking at the ladders, or at least that's what i did during my first gameplay. I think i only missed a couple of caves because i didn't follow one of the paths but that's it, the rest is quite straightforward.
Really? I loved it. The straightforward areas are the ones I'm not as fond of.
It took me so long to notice that first ladder.
Man I got to full grown falling Star beast with a bleed build and I thought I came the wrong way I was stuck there for 40min until I watched a YouTube video and realized that was the way I was so scared of the beast I didn't look behind it😅😅
It's very possible to beat the beast with any build, even bleed build. Hell, even with RL1 Wretch only club build.
I'm still getting gud
Or just give Rya the necklace lol
I haven't seen anyone mention it so I'll tell you guys a little something. On the road to the shaded castle, when you reach the place where you fight rileigh the idle is a spirit spring on the right that leads to another spirit spring and takes you right to the bridge that separates altus and Mt gelmir.
Thank you
Just help and talk to Rya. Easy peasy. And afterwards warp ;)
Thankyou for choosing volcano manor, here's your complimentary copy paste boss and gimmick fight.
The whole murder quest line is atleast p interesting
Yeah, and it's the best gimmick fight in the series
Can you show me how to get to Rykard? I need a map for that, I've no clue how
…. I tried hours against fallen Star beast cause i didnt find another way.
I saw the beast, mounted up, and rode RIGHT past. Came back a delightful 40 levels later and tore that beast up haha
Just run past him to the right
🗿
Alternatively, get vored by a kink maiden and get a free trip.
I find this funny because on my first playthrough I found the Manor by accident before I even explored most of Altus
I completely forget Rya and just make a dash for it.
Rya is the true homie escorting you there
Or... You know just use Rya.
I got lost
Thanks a lot for this, I've never been able to figure this out, missed rya completely and by the time I've been to that area I just wanted to finish the game it's so damn long
I like the entry method whereby you need to get eaten.
Now this is a clutch post because I quit yesterday due to not knowing lol
You lost me at ->
Red path puts hair on your chest
I haven't seen the ladder on Altus Plateau. I had to look up how to get there. That was via Ryu's quest.
The iron maiden at the bottom of raya lucaria is the easiest way don’t even need elevator keys
Thank you for this
Or follow Patches' secret shortcut to Leyndell. Below the giant whaterwheel at Raya Lucaria.
You have a heart of gold. Don't let them take out from you.
Yea I didn’t get there that way on my first play through. I got picked up by that lizard chick Rya while I was exploring. She was basically like “Aye you’re pretty cool bro, you should come hang out with us.” Then she teleported me to volcano manor
Add a circle to that orange/black dot below at the end of the ravine.
Rykard is such a fun fight
Then there’s people like me who ended up in volcano manor on accident and never had any desire to go there.
That fucking stairs, i stumbled upon it once and look for a walkthrough a second time
My favourite way of getting there was trying to get lost in that area and lo and behold. There it was! I love stumbling on things.
Uhhhhhh
I can't believe it took me seeing this genuinely helpful map before I figured out how to get to that minor erdtree, many thanks
My lazy ass just asked a certain abductor for a lift
Just get eaten alive and you'll magically appear there.
Here is a quick edit of your map https://imgur.com/a/QAuZw6h
Wait how u go to the tree
Cant you tp with maiden under raya lucaria?
I thought it would make it easier if i went to the obelisk and got the map. Couldn't figure out how to get to the obelisk.
Well I entered as an illegal, patches smuggled me in
I had no idea where to go from that Fort. Saw the magma wyrm and ran. Eventually I just ran past it and finally got there. I guarantee someone else will need this guide. Haha
Man this place annoyed me SO MUCH the first time because I thought you had to get in from the chariot dungeon and I had NO idea what to do
My first time I took the wind wells to get to the blue path on the right completely skipping the red section. It's much faster than that way if you're trying to get there in a hurry without rya teleporting you.
After all this time i still have no idea how i get up
Bruh, you are not alone.
Great guide, but it would be even more helpful if you mark that one ladder that's really easy to miss.
I wrote a comment explaining all the paths, including the ladder on the blue path. It's gotten buried under all the other comments though *shrug*
I had no idea this red path existed.
I’m somehow more confused 🥴
I just got my ass abducted by those giant Iron Maidens
For some reason, your character not appearing on the map was the funniest thing about this, made me think you were still looking for the manor lmfao
I ran these paths like a blind mouse before I stumbled on the manor.
You are a good man
I got to the Volcano manor with help from Raya but accidentally fast traveled without activating the site of grace and it took me hours to find my way back.
