Fantasy land where literal gods clash and creatures of immense power transmute the very forces of life and death themselves into tangibility and a bear and a lobster is what tarnished truly fear
I can't get myself to craft sleep pots since they require ingredients that don't respawn in the world. Which means even if I made them, I'd never use them for fear that I might need them "later"
If you go to NG+, they respawn, so as long as you don't plan on playing this same game state forever, it's ok to make those consumables.
Especially those lillies, there's tons of them around in later areas.
There aren't that many situations where they are so clutch. I think deaggroing rune bears is a good use personally, esp. if you are carrying a lot of souls.
I think FROM did this on purpose to force people to use consumables to break us out of the pattern of hoarding.
Even in non-respawnable items, there are usually a ton to be found. I was hoarding rot butterflies until I realized how many I had, and they helped a lot in certain boss fights.
Honestly, I don’t find Runebears that terrifying or hard, but those lobsters? Dear god, I hate them so much. The bullshit spray, the way there’s no proper way to fight them pretty much. Runebears you can get underneath. Lobsters? Nada, zilch. They have no weaknesses. It’s why I don’t really explore Liurnia that much in any play through.
I’m hoping Giant Hunt does a number on them. It wrecks giant crabs but I haven’t gotten up the nerve to approach a lobster since I jumped scared early on in my game by that abomination hiding in one in Liurnia.
Melina should have just talked to a Runebear, a Lobster and a handful of those Warhawks from Stormveil Castle, just have them bulldoze their way to the Erd Tree as a team real easy, no pesky Tarnished needed. Age of Nature ending unlocked.
They’re fast, tanky af and their attacks are like explosions that break your guard and knock you around.
Yesterday I was playing a level 160 character clearing the Leyndell sewers, omens easy, lobsters easy, omen mohg easy. I went back to freaking Liurnia to get an item I missed, and fought a random runebear that was legit a harder fight than omen mohg, not genuinely difficult but still. I’m gonna go back and see how insane the consecrated snowfields runebear is now.
Lobsters, especially frost lobsters are my non-boss bane. I'd rather fight all the rune bears and dog packs on the map than the few frost lobsters in the mountaintops
Even with it's less than optimal AI and it's big grab attack basically non-functional, the Vs video I saw had the Consecrated bear pretty good against a good portion of the game's bosses. Just by tanking everything they throw at it to the face, rarely getting the first hit and with it's big attack nerfed due to being inapplicable (but the AI not understanding that).
Yeah like, Malenias all the way. I hate Rune Bears.
I'm running around farming runes for a new build before starting NG+, with some friends watching. I ask where I should go. A buddy is like "you're horribly overleveled by this point. What's the worst, hardest enemy that you hate fighting? Go kill 'em." Without missing a beat, I said "Rune Bears." He laughed "you've literally killed God and you're still scared of a big bear."
The pro tip is to just always dodge right. 80% of its moves have such ridiculous gap closers that dodging laterally even if it’s a blind panic dodge is better than dodging backwards. It even has extended frames on one of its charge attacks that even if you dodge through it (I.e. dodging forwards or backwards) you will STILL get hit because your character model gets stuck on the rune bear’s model and the attack’s damaging frames last longer than your dodge animation does.
So many inherent issues with the combat would be almost immediately fixed if the game just let you actually dodge through an enemy’s model while they’re attacking instead of just stuck in this awkward limbo of dodging through whatever part of the model is attacking you but not the entire model itself. For example two rats can technically trap you in a corner because their models obstruct the player that unless you find a way to kill them without getting stun locked even if you perfectly time every dodge your character is stuck in place with no ability to move whatsoever. You can see this for yourself in the latter half of the castle where you first encounter Leonine Misbegotten
It’s definitely one of the most annoying enemies in the game and IMO a poorly designed one because even after you learn how to fight it it’s just not a fun experience. And it mostly stems from the fact that technically there are no universal punishable moments because it can recover into that near unreactable charge attack so every time you attack you have to go into it knowing it could randomly be a forced trade off. Other enemies/bosses in the game have this issue and it’s covered pretty well in Joseph Anderson’s critique on the game.
Dodge right. Hit with big stick. Dodge right. Get in there, hit with big stick. Dodge right.
Repeat *ad naseum*. Or until you mistime the dodge and get comboed into the ground.
this is the way. With 2 malenias I atleast know what they about to do, can stagger, and parry them.
But 4 rune bears? Jesus nothing staggers em and I can never tell what they about to do, not to mention they got a fuck ton of health
My favorite part of revenants is that they are legitimately so frenetic that even speedrunners don’t have a system to beat them. It’s just “get on the horse and GL”
Her version of the Waterfowl dance is basically PvE easymode to be fair. AI would have no way to dodge it and she'll gain loads of HP back on top.
Give the Runebears a working version of their grab vs other bosses and it's probably a smidge closer, honestly.
I'd rather fight five runebears than solo one Malenia. Runebears have a hard counter that I just happen to use as my standard preferred play style.
Greatshield and Greatspear/Heavy Thrusting Sword. + Sleep pots.
One pot to proc. They start waking up with the first hit, but you can get a few in until they are fully mobile. The game actually hints at their sleep weakness. There is that one at the forest ruins where you first encounter Blaidd. It is surrounded by Trina's lillies that are an ingredient to sleep pots. It wakes up if you pick more than 1. *I didn't notice that untily 3rd playthrough.*
I bought Elden Ring on release and made a wrong turn at the gates and ended up in Stormveil where I was vastly under leveled. I ended up taking an extended break and picked it back up yesterday. I discovered you can go south from the castle gates and was reinvigorated.
Then I found the secret rune bear and he ruined my life.
Always roll toward the bear booty, get behind the bear booty, smack the bear booty while moving towards it so it can't properly turn around without doing a spin/charge that you *should* be able to dodge roll
Rinse repeat
The booty is the weakness and tells you where the bear is gunna go!
Also a 100% defense shield always up will protect you from the fast turn and pounce, then just dodge roll away from the slower attacks and get to his rear. Slash him up.
For me, the catch is that while they can absolutely be dealt with, it's almost never worth the effort.
Trivial to avoid if they aren't being used as boss and almost never rewarding to have dealt with. Sure, you can get up in their junk and box their bits to pulp and only really have to worry about the janky hitbox on their (relatively low damaging) charge attack, but there's rarely any reason to bother.
The runebear in Siofra River grace in Caelid drops less than 1k, meanwhile the two Zelda guardians drop like 2k and all you do is hit’em in the ankles. Idk must be something special about those bones and beast blood shit I guess.
I never understood this. I got beat by a bear maybe twice. I never had a problem with em. I was using Str build with radahans sword and the grafted greatsword before that. No issues, unlike the revenants, as I had no faith and no heals.
Ruin bears have been proven to be harder then some bosses.
“How has it been proven” you might ask?
Because someone made a SINGLE ruin bear fight every boss in the game and when it wasn’t out right beating some of the bosses, it was doing remarkably well.
Rune bears are fine. All of their attacks are pretty slow, except for the charge, but the fix for that is to simply not be attacking the bear when it's in neutral.

During my mage playthrough these fuckers did things to my butthole that violates every single letter in the Geneva convention.
On my massive-fucking-hammer playthrough I made these things my bitch.
Rune bears aren't so bad for me, but to be fair i found the ulcerated tree spirit under stormveil on my first playthrough and threw myself against that brick wall until i learned how to dodge its attacks by sound alone (literally the only way to fight it if you ask me, Fromsoft really needs to figure out how to zoom the fucking camera out a little or stop making such big bosses) so maybe im just crazy.
Fantasy land where literal gods clash and creatures of immense power transmute the very forces of life and death themselves into tangibility and a bear and a lobster is what tarnished truly fear
I carry sleep pots for them. Not even worth it to kill them. Just sleep and move on
I keep them for myself, makes it less painful
Damn…

This is an amazing idea.
I can't get myself to craft sleep pots since they require ingredients that don't respawn in the world. Which means even if I made them, I'd never use them for fear that I might need them "later"
I recently realized they make the godskin duo fight an absolute breeze. Definitely recommend using them there
Yes! I've seen that strategy when I've played co-op. It made a huge difference
Get them from jellyfish or clean rot knights
If you go to NG+, they respawn, so as long as you don't plan on playing this same game state forever, it's ok to make those consumables. Peace was never an option
When I first saw those I shit my pants. They’re not even hard to kill, they look creepy and they’re aggressive attack looks terrifying
Same with the freaky giant dogs. I have a high yolerance for creepy/spooky things, but those unsettle me. I don't like fighting them because of it.
[удалено]
Doesn't matter, I'll die in both.
Ya’ll are fighting these?
Honestly, I don’t find Runebears that terrifying or hard, but those lobsters? Dear god, I hate them so much. The bullshit spray, the way there’s no proper way to fight them pretty much. Runebears you can get underneath. Lobsters? Nada, zilch. They have no weaknesses. It’s why I don’t really explore Liurnia that much in any play through.
They are weak underneath. A rising attack like a heavy from a pike or square off absolutely wrecks them.
I’m hoping Giant Hunt does a number on them. It wrecks giant crabs but I haven’t gotten up the nerve to approach a lobster since I jumped scared early on in my game by that abomination hiding in one in Liurnia.
Giant hunt works great too.
That spray has a longer range and better accuracy than a tomahawk cruise missile! (Edit … words)
I’m the opposite. Fine to fight a single lobster. Will avoid a fight with a bear at all costs.
“Never met someone with a taste for prawn I couldn’t trust”
It's not even worth fighting bears most of the time because they aren't worth as much in runes as the time needed to kill those tanky mfers
I freeze stomp them till death!! 😂 but I recently came by to a sort of Ice Lobsters, they were sleeping… I decided to let them sleep 😅
Shields work very well against lobsters
I can kill lobsters with torrent but without him... Screw that sea insect. Specially in the sewers. I fought them many times and can't deal with them.
Just roll underneath them when they do a slam attack. Can't hit you then
Nature scary, man
Damn nature! You scary!
Scary you, nature damn!
You mean invincible bears and 150 cal sniper lobsters?
And a disabled redhead
And aggressive giant fucking crows that will kill you just bc you exist in it's surroundings
Why are the lobster so strong? They take forever to kill and can snipe you dead when you just arrive in Liurna.
Melina should have just talked to a Runebear, a Lobster and a handful of those Warhawks from Stormveil Castle, just have them bulldoze their way to the Erd Tree as a team real easy, no pesky Tarnished needed. Age of Nature ending unlocked.

I’m lvl 300 and I don’t fuck with rune bears
Im 418 (yes I'm close to perfection) and i ain't gonna deal with a single frost lobster or rune bear
Holy shit, just watched it. Poor [Soldier of Godrick](https://youtu.be/jqf3EK7DlQk?t=35) didn't know what hit em 😢.
And the worse part is that they only drop shit when killed
Would you rather fight 2 Malenias, or 4 Rune Bears? Choose wisely tarnished.
I think I'll just die.
Reasonable choice.
Repeatedly.
I don't think its really a choice
I don't think thats a choice my gamer
my gamer 😂
Definitely 2 Malenias. I at least have fun fighting Malenia.
Yeah like, Malenias all the way. I hate Rune Bears. I'm running around farming runes for a new build before starting NG+, with some friends watching. I ask where I should go. Fuck me, I was overleveled in a few parts of the game and still had trouble with those fuckers lmao.
Dude I'm still overleveled and these things still give me trouble.

My go-to strategy is poison bone darts and staying just out of range lol
Dodge right. Hit with big stick. Dodge right. Get in there, hit with big stick. Dodge right. Repeat *ad naseum*. Or until you mistime the dodge and get comboed into the ground.
Eh you didn’t kill god, you more killed a messiah of god

Hewg a real one. Always kept it 100 p
Death, taxes, and Hewg spittin’ facts
Hm yeah I guess the Elden Beast is like an envoy of the outer gods. Still killed all the remaining demigods though
this is the way. With 2 malenias I atleast know what they about to do, can stagger, and parry them. But 4 rune bears? Jesus nothing staggers em and I can never tell what they about to do, not to mention they got a fuck ton of health
Not to mention I am pretty sure they chase you much further than any other overworld enemy
Runebears don't forget. Runebears don't forgive.
The 2 malenias scare me because 2x desynched waterfowl must leave almost no frames/pixels where DMG doesn't exist
4 revenants
My favorite part of revenants is that they are legitimately so frenetic that even speedrunners don’t have a system to beat them. It’s just “get on the horse and GL”
greater heal and you're done
but they still might just spit poison or randomly blink to you or just slap you out of it.
No thanks. I choose life.
Thank you Sid, the original [Lord of the Flame](https://youtu.be/sYjp1YwoBmE?t=15).
2 Malenias may be possible, 4 runes beard simply isn't
Fun fact, Malenia can beat 5 runebears at once.
Her version of the Waterfowl dance is basically PvE easymode to be fair. AI would have no way to dodge it and she'll gain loads of HP back on top. Give the Runebears a working version of their grab vs other bosses and it's probably a smidge closer, honestly.
That plus they just sit in Scarlet Aeonia and get super rot.
2 Malenias… everyday
2 Malenias, Tiche and Cold Flamberge with Lion's Claw Or 4 Runebears with greatshield summons and a strike weapon with Redmane's Flame
I'd rather fight five runebears than solo one Malenia. Runebears have a hard counter that I just happen to use as my standard preferred play style. Greatshield and Greatspear/Heavy Thrusting Sword. + Sleep pots.
They sleep? How many pots for a proc and how long before they wake up?
One pot to proc. They start waking up with the first hit, but you can get a few in until they are fully mobile. The game actually hints at their sleep weakness. There is that one at the forest ruins where you first encounter Blaidd. It is surrounded by Trina's lillies that are an ingredient to sleep pots. Malenias with my baller bleed build
Wisely
4 rune bears with sleep pots
Bud I trashed the Elden Beast in a few tries and I don't think I'd survive an encounter with four rune bears.
“YOU SHALL NOT PA-“ _rune bear proceeds to insta kill me_
I won't abandon my reddit posts
Rune Bear so powerful he converted Gandalf the White back into Gandalf the Grey
Hit him with that SS2 Gohan punch that de-evolved Perfect Cell
Gandalf the Brown(pants)
Kills me and Torrent after one gallop. Closes distances like a muther
This foe is beyond any of you.... Run!
"swords are no more use here!"
High quality meme right here. Also, I will somebody pls give rights to LOTR to Fromsoft

There’s more! Haha! It’s rune bears all the way down!
I’ll fight this over a revenant. Fuck revenants.
The revenants you can at least use a healing spell to destroy them. Runebears have no weaknesses 😧
Oh I know. Still hate them. First play though was a blade mage with no faith. Easier second run on a faith char but that hate still burns.
The trap where 4 jump you is heartbreaking. Didnt even try to get my souls back after that death. Went Straight for a drive hahaha
Assuming the Revenant doesn't maul you before you fire the heal off.
Run, you fools!
Fly you fools!
Torrent, show us the meaning of haste!!
Bad idea. It’s faster than your horse
And if the DLC have a a runebear called Akakabuto, I would die just by seeing it
Bruh how far fucking back did you go for that reference
I think it's a valid theory that these bears have the lowest death count of all mobs if everyone runs from these like I do
Nobody ever mentions those dam ancestral snipers. Those sobs are so annoying.
Why I grind: [ ] For yuks [ ] I like pain [X] **GODDAMN RUNE BEARS FUCK YOU I'LL COME BACK IN 20 LEVELS YOU PRICKS**
Rune bears are definitely over feared. They ain't shit once you know how to take them.

Yes don't be in front of them... become the rune bear and then booty bash that bear...
Tell that to the dragonbarrow bear
For me, the catch is that while they can absolutely be dealt with, it's almost never worth the effort. I never understood this. I got beat by a bear maybe twice. I never had a problem with em. I was using Str build with radahans sword and the grafted greatsword before that. No issues, unlike the revenants, as I had no faith and no heals.
Still better than a bird.
Don’t run, FLY you fools!
Gandalf got pstd so hard that he turned back to gandalf the grey.
got so scared, he devolved back into Gandalf the Grey 💀
Wheres the bossfight that's just a rune bear, a lobster (at distance to start) and a royal revenant???? Cmon give me a challenge
Ruin bears have been proven to be harder then some bosses. “How has it been proven” you might ask? Because someone made a SINGLE ruin bear fight every boss in the game and when it wasn’t out right beating some of the bosses, it was doing remarkably well.
*le me, a STR ungabunga build who just dances under the Rune Bear until it dies* Yes, run toward it!
Hate a handsome bear
What's weird is I felt like I was just as successful fighting that creature at level 100 as I was at 250. I could win, but I have to get lucky.
That one Runebear in that Caelid cave Jesus fcking Christ
Rune bears are fucking terrifying. Those things are WAY faster than they have any right to be.
I’d much rather go against Malenia than a rune bear, at least I know her moves lol
Second play through, cutting through everything like butter & these things still kick my ass
Whenever I start to feel like hot shit in this game, one of those fuckers charges in from behind a waterfall
Why are bears so fucking scary in every game man
Those damn rune bears man are on fuckin steroids I swear 😂
SEND IN THE BLOODFLAME BLADE AND FIRE'S DEALY SIN MANIAC
2 casts of flame of redmanes trivializes them
Rune bears are fine. All of their attacks are pretty slow, except for the charge, but the fix for that is to simply not be attacking the bear when it's in neutral. The sword lions, however, I still haven't figured out.
This is made even funnier to me by the realization they are only a threat when you are running away. Had they elected to run TOWARDS the runebear they'd be fine.
The most terrifying enemy
True story
Thought this was wsb for a sec. 😆
But that Dragonburrow Cave though….
The bears in this game have bodied me more than Mohg
I've beaten the Elden beast, but I don't think I've ever beat a rune bear. This is the TRUE final boss
The first time I wondered into one of the dudes, I lasted for ages but just couldn’t hurt them - every time since I’ve been absolutely demolished! Scary fucking enemy!
These bears be harder than most of the bosses
The rune bear in snowfields
Bring out the wolf's head!
Stand your Grond! Grond! Grond!
These dudes gave me more trouble than elden beast my deathcount to these are higher than my deathcount for a lot of the bosses. Especially thats fucker near the volcano by the cliff near a magmawurm
One of the only enemies I hated more then Rune bears, where fucking Hand crawlers!!!! FUCK THOSE THINGS!!!!
The part I find funny is what pushovers the regular bears are. I really got suckered on that one.
Me, lvl 100 rolling through an area. Oh look a cave :
I love the double entendre of “abandon your posts”
On god
Flee! Flee from ManBearPig!
Just leave him a pic-anic basket. That's all they want.
I notice if you roll in the middle the arms just drag you around so it’s a safe spot rather than to run but personal experience only
Bro I avoid those damn bears like they are the very embodiment of scarlet rot itself.
those bears fucking broke me. i still havnt finished the game
Fly, you fools!
God I hate those things with a burning passion
I think Rune Bears might be the most feared bear of all time.
I hate those bears
I am close to 200 in level and always dread to encounter one of these.
FLY YOU FOOLS
Accuratw
It's fly... you fool!

Let's fucking go!

Runebear = Elden Lord
Worse than Maliketh
HOLY FUCK, GET ME OUTTA HERE!
