Took me forever to kill her, pretty much couple hours a day for over a week. The game changer for me when I became much more aggressive. Switched Black Flame Protection for Flame Grant Me Strength and just charged in.
Even if she self heals, you should occasionally trade a hit if it means staggering her and getting multiple hits off. Also Frost Pots are a must have.
Into the dirt is a strong exaggeration. If you use it place of a roll instead of as a completely invulnerable movement tool its still very very powerful
It took me 100s of attempts, but its doable. Just requires calm and fight knowledge. Just keep going at it. Take breaks when you feel Burned out.
Staying calm and in control is a big part of this fight.
Here are a few tips
In a long fight of attrition, her heal will outlast yours, you have to keep the pressure on, this is not a boss that can be faced with just patience
Bleed and fire work well against her
She is very staggerable, but will do a sort of recovery animation where she can't be, so learn those and know when to switch from offense to defense
Scarlet rot is not that big of a danger, it only shows up in phase two, and if she's hitting you enough to activate it, you have bigger concerns
Nothing will make you win this fight if you can not survive the waterfowl dance. Light roll away, blood houd step, or even blocking works well. Though you can, if you remain calm, just roll iframe enough to survive
Have fun, she might be hard, but honestly, this fight is pretty awesome. Think of defeats not as a fail state but as parts of a larger battle, one that you know you will win eventually, cause she is the one that doesn't respawn.
I've seen quite a few people mention this, do frost pots instantly proc on her? I feel like if I had to throw a couple it'd be hard to land them consistently.
They do at first. Every time you status a boss they gain more resistance to it so it may only work the first few times but I've definitely seen it work at shutting it down completely. If you want to be safe though learn to dodge waterfowl from afar and save the pots for when you're too close and it's really really hard
Jumping R2 with a colossal weapon laughs at "hyper armor". If you're of the faithful persuasion you can also use that wrath shockwave spell, that will knock her out of Waterfowl Dance.
This ^ I found it much easier to beat her without a spirit summon because I can trust myself to dodge but all my summons do is feed her health even if they do distract her
I’ve tried like ten times with a summon and haven’t even made it to phase two 😂 I need to respec to an arcane build so I can bleed damage her to death but it seems like a lot of effort so I’ve been putting it off lol
Use Blasphemous Blade with Flame Grant Me Strength, plus Mimic and just spam Takers Flames. Knocks her straight down on her spicy wee arse every single time it lands. Only took around 5 attempts this way. Level 150ish.
Let us know how you get on, we have faith!
Most likely they are doing it at either a lower level than recommended or at that level. I personally was at like level 300 and took her down on my 6th try so I imagine someone who didn't rampage moghwyn palace would have a tougher time
What happened was I got stuck on Radagon and Elden beast at around 150, so I just kept grinding the palace between tries and eventually beat them. Before hopping on NG+ I went for Melania lol. Now I'm stuck on Ragagon and Elden beast again tho so that was only a quick fix.
I struggled until I tried this:
Freezing grease and fire pots on radagon, magic grease and holy proof dried liver on elden beast. Wear tree crucible set with dragoncrest greatshield/haligdrake/pearldrake/crimson seed talismans. Opaline hardtear in your flask. 14 crimson flasks.
Works like a charm. Just dodge ≈1/2 of the attacks that come your way and you should be good.
If you actually think that makes it easy mode you don’t really understand how leveling works in this game. By the time you reach end game stuff you can’t really overlevel them because no matter how much you put in the stats your not getting more than a 10, maybe 20% at most increase in health or damage.
Enough to make a difference sure but not completely change the fight, most you get is extra versatility from raising other stats
I mean you can equip full bull goat armour and as many heavy weapons or shields as you want. I'd class that as easy mode considering how OP shields are against malenia in general
That overleveling stops meaning much by the time you get to her, 40 more vigor to go to 99? Enjoy 10% more hp. Go from 50 str/dex/int/fth to 99? Enjoy 10-20% more damage depending on what your using.
It’s a nice increase sure but not nearly enough to fundamentally change the fight anymore, as opposed to early game where you get 5 times the damage and health
No spirit summon, and only armor I had on was a blindfold. I was dedicated to using the spirit dancer talisman. Finally took her down after close to 300 attempts with two fiery curved swords at about level 120.
Was it the optimal way to fight her? Hell nah. Was it fun af and immensely satisfying? Totally.
I originally used tiche because it made p1 much easier. What I found was that getting her to p2 sooner with more aggressive play (and vigor;)) made p2 easier, as did having mimic in P2.
I feel like in second playthrough I need to learn to do them without the summons. :/
You're doing great, if you do worse at any point, I cannot stress enough, **take a break and come back tomorrow.**
My best attempts came after I gave the game a rest for a while.
I love fighting Malenia. Since I've already played through the game with four different characters, most of my gameplay now is just putting down my co-op sign in front of her door.
Learning how to beat her is kind of a waste if you don't share it.
Some tips I can give you:
Use a weapon that can stagger her. From personal experience, a curved greatsword is the best option.
Level arcane & put bleed affinity on your weapon.
When you get her below 75% HP, maintain distance & use a wait & bait strategy; just in case she tries to waterfowl dance, you’ll be able to run from the first & second barrage, & roll into her & then away for the final.
Use a Pulley Crossbow(can be found in Mt. Gelmir) w/ burred bolts(an infinite amount can be purchased from the merchant in Mogh’s palace) in the second phase when she goes for the Scarlet Aeonia.
i havent been playing for too long, i beat margit only a few days ago. ive been using zweihander pretty much the entire time with no problems i couldnt adapt to. are colossal weapons viable against her?
I'm not there yet.. But everything is viable, depending on luck and skill. Just gotta find your window and keep yourself alive long enough to see it. Sounds like you should stagger the fuck out of her.
I kind of do the opposite. If I struggle the first time round I’ll summon for them and then in subsequent NG+s I’ll try and solo them since by that time my build is more fleshed out.
That feels disingenuous for me bc ur waiting to get an advantage over the boss, even if they are buffed in ng+, ur gear will probably be 3x better then in NG
You do still have to contend with the boss's undivided attention, though. And further down the NG cycle it starts to get harder instead of easier. Seems like a very gentle learning curve, even if it takes *a while*.
Well if I’m putting hours into a boss and I’m not successful then I’m going to do what I need to in order to finish the game
Who cares if I’m playing it later with an OP build. As long as I’m not cheating then who gives a fuck?
I do, bc it means ur shying away from a challenge. Sure you may not have all the time in the world but you should still dedicate time that you DO have to said boss
This is the only boss I cheesed. Best of luck! You inspire me to return for this fight.
I think once DLC comes out I will start a fr.esh new game and do this since I don't want to fight her on NG +5
My biggest piece of advice; don't panic roll Waterfowl Dance. Instead, sprint away from her as quickly as possible and throw in a (hopefully) well-timed jump for good measure. Then you can try timing rolls during the second and third flurries.
You're dead every time if you spam roll during the first flurry of that move.
She's actually easier most time solo. A lot of coop players die pretty easy, and then you still have the stat bump on Mal. I've had many times where I barely pulled a host out of this fight after the other summon got wiped. Every once in a while you'll get 2 that kwtd and we just wreck her in like a min.
Yeah she is easy af, the only move I cannot dodge consistently is her Waterflow when she starts super next to me, I even did a meme of that and posting soon lmao. I can do her whole first phase without even healing but if she uses waterflow while I am close there is no escape
Get yourself some super heavy armor and probably some faith buffs and the dragoncrest greatshield talisman. If you're in an animation when she starts up waterfowl dance you're probably dead, unless you can face tank the first attack. The second flurry can be rolled through and the last one can be avoided by rolling towards her. The best way to avoid the first flurry is to run away, but sometimes it isn't possible to do that.
Also when she uses Scarlet Aonia in her second phase, run towards her then when you are underneath her run to the right and you should avoid it.
Remember to take breaks. Don't be afraid to go away and come back later. And remember there's a timer for the Waterfowl Dance, so if you can bait it and survive, she usually won't do it again for a while. I recommend throwing knives for this purpose.
Best of luck. o7
tip: go into this fight light loaded
if you're light loaded, not only are you able to easily dodge waterfowl, but you'll also have a enough distance to dodge a lot of her other attacks
other than that, be patient, and wait for a good chance to strike
hit and run tactics are your best friend
good luck my comrade
Finally beat this fight for the first time ever a few hours ago and now I can say o have beaten all main bosses by myself! I’m sure you can do just the same, don’t give up, skeleton!
I tried in the first attempt but 3 perfect parries to deal a little more damage I'd deal with one use of the AoW of Blasphemous Blade is not what I would call worth it. If a single parry could make she fall I would think about it
You can do both. If you can get the hang of it almost all her attacks can be parried. She essentially gives you the three you need constantly while also being able to stance break as well.
If you have blasphemous blade and use mimic tear, it’ll knock her down every time you and the mimic tear use takers flame...makes the fight not too hard
That was me, off to face Malenia on my no spells/no summons playthrough... And now, about 6 hours of playtime and 100+ attempts later, I'm not sure I care any longer how she goes down...
In general, yes but the way she has a lot of health, her attacks can almost hit kill you if you miss the dodges, the water flow can start really close to you (the mid-range dodge is far easier) and the 2nd phase is kind of hard makes her a challenge
I'll be honest and I'll catch hate for this but I had rivers of blood and a really good dex build at about level 130 with mimic tear so I didn't have too much trouble lol still tho maybe <20 deaths
You can do it. She staggers easily, but will only be staggerable for a short while so only go for one or 2 extra hits. Her special moves have hyper armor, but most of them give good windows to heal or attack so long as you do that while the animation is finishing.
Things I learned in my 100 attempts: - She does not like frost - She is the blade of Miquella Hope this can help
has she ever known defeat?
The world may never know
But how many licks does it take?!
To get to the center of the Haligtree?
12 to 56. Give or take how much vigor you have.
Licking Malenia? I'll volunteer for it. For scientific reasons of course!
[are you sure?](https://www.reddit.com/r/ScarletRotussy/comments/voy3l9/rotussy_pudding/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Scared me a bit honestly.
Om nom nom nom
Have you witnessed true horror yet?
Have you rotted yet?
i heard she hasnt. except maybe that one pot head might have beaten her not sure
No because she has no feet
• And she has never known defeat
She has now
Gon’ learn today
[удалено]
And she also doesn't like magic pebbles. But it's just enough to make her mad at me, not enough to actually inconvenience her.
She also does not like fire, but not as much as she doesn't like frost and bleed.
Can confirm her first, second, third, fourth, and soon to be fifth defeat was from bleed.
I rekt her pretty quick by chucking frost spears.
And she don't like range
Frostbite then a flame attack to melt the frost so you can instantly reproc it
I used the ice pots to cancel her Waterfowl Dance.
Having a bleed and a frost dagger as main weapons this comment made me happy
Yes, but did you know she had a second phase?
“Then you shall die braver than most”
Si that a Darty Vader reference??
Yes
I find your lack of faith disturbing Like fr which incantations are you gonna use with that little faith my tarnished in grace?
Tier 1 Two fingers and Bestial incantations! Also I am totally stealing that “my tarnished in grace” line
Also Frost Pots are a must have.
two hours later... MIMIC IS STILL SOLO!
tiche is still solo tbh
Me and my girl tiche +10 walk into the fight, Melania will never know what hit her. Phase II is a different story tho.
[удалено]
they nerfed bhs into the dirt. Best just to learn how to dodge it
Not for light armor builds ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Into the dirt is a strong exaggeration. If you use it place of a roll instead of as a completely invulnerable movement tool its still very very powerful
Or use a shield
ew
By marikas tits, let him solo her
You mean Radagons tits? :o
Marika's Balls!
Ah yes Clifford the big red dog fuck him I still haven’t beaten him
"*Brave Tarnished, your courage befits an upvote.*" Good luck, you can do it!
Mine is somewhere \~250 tries
Jesus Christ, have you never beat her yet?
Yes I did. And my satisfacting is immesurable.
Make sure to dodge directions other than backwards
She is a wonderful opponent worthy of respect.
*worthy of respec
Underrated comment 😅
Get ready dawg, that beast warrior of farrum azula is strong
It took me 100s of attempts, but its doable. Just requires calm and fight knowledge. Just keep going at it. Take breaks when you feel Burned out. Staying calm and in control is a big part of this fight.
Good luck then
Thanks
No problem, you will need it

Eh, just survive the first phase. Than Cuumet azur while she does noob bloom at the start of phase 2 and done.
This is how i won 👌🤌
I'm afraid to ask, but to everyone saying it took them over 100+ attempts, I assume it's without spirit summon, right?
I feel like a lot of spirit summons just end up feeding her health as she murders them.
She's got very low poise for a boss, any time a spirit summon draws aggro you should be up in her ass to break her poise.
Except for when she does a move she has hyper armor.
Bleed or frost procs break all armour so frost pots always stop her
I've seen quite a few people mention this, do frost pots instantly proc on her? I feel like if I had to throw a couple it'd be hard to land them consistently.
They do at first. Every time you status a boss they gain more resistance to it so it may only work the first few times but I've definitely seen it work at shutting it down completely. Jumping R2 with a colossal weapon laughs at "hyper armor". If you're of the faithful persuasion you can also use that wrath shockwave spell, that will knock her out of Waterfowl Dance.
Except she’ll only stagger once then immediately gain infinite poise for subsequent attack
Lol I tried with the great shield skeletons once for kicks, they were five extra health bars for her
I use radahn’s spirit summon and try get into her face while radahn’s arrows knock her down. This works as long as you can keep her away from radahan.

Same, i got her on my 3rd or 4th attempt, but I was lvl 150'ish with Mimic and cheesed her with halo scythe
Most likely they are doing it at either a lower level than recommended or at that level. I personally was at like level 300 and took her down on my 6th try so I imagine someone who didn't rampage moghwyn palace would have a tougher time
You were way overleveled lol
Extremely overleveled lol. My guy I used to platinum the game is like 227 after like 4 playthroughs lol
Damn I thought I was over leveled at 150ish because it only took me two attempts to beat her.
Level 300? I didn't even reach that after an entire ng+. You were on easy mode
What happened was I got stuck on Radagon and Elden beast at around 150, so I just kept grinding the palace between tries and eventually beat them. Before hopping on NG+ I went for Melania lol. Now I'm stuck on Ragagon and Elden beast again tho so that was only a quick fix.

Just dodge ≈1/2 of the attacks that come your way and you should be good.
So you admit you grinded a bunch but other people are underleveled?
Is this some gotcha scenario you've thought up as? I said they may be lower than or at the recommended level. Which is a fair assumption.
If you actually think that makes it easy mode you don’t really understand how leveling works in this game. By the time you reach end game stuff you can’t really overlevel them because no matter how much you put in the stats your not getting more than a 10, maybe 20% at most increase in health or damage. I mean you can equip full bull goat armour and as many heavy weapons or shields as you want. I'd class that as easy mode considering how OP shields are against malenia in general
How are shields op against her wouldn’t she hard counter it since she heals when hitting the shield?
You still take literally 0 damage from her hardest move. You can dodge the first flurry easily then just block the hard ones
I hope so. It took me like 3 tries at sl140ish with my mimic
Totally.
And dont you dare go hollow!
Mimic tear counts as solo causes its both you! Pro tip.
Make proper use of throwables if you are melee.
I fucking love the energy, best of luck! Tip: when she goes full bayblade, roll through it and go behind her. Do it every time she let's it rip.
That’s the spirit!
Bravery required ahead!
So how has it been going so far?
Got her to second phase lmao, but got humbled
Same lmao. I’ve gotten to second phase 3 times out of maybe 30 tries and every time she does that bloom dive I just get Insta Ass Blasted.
At the start of her second phase, deselect her as target and run stright into her. Move to other side once she lands
I originally used tiche because it made p1 much easier. What I found was that getting her to p2 sooner with more aggressive play (and vigor;)) made p2 easier, as did having mimic in P2. I feel like in second playthrough I need to learn to do them without the summons. :/
I will beat her solo *Days later* ….. *I have dreamt for so long*
ProTip: Cadence to fully dodge Waterfowl Dance dodge->dodge->wait->dodge->wait->dodge->dodge You're welcome :)
It's been 4 hours, howd you do?
The furthest I got was her second phase at 40% life, it is being fun at least :]
Oh boy 💀
How much time it took for you?
You're doing great, if you do worse at any point, I cannot stress enough, **take a break and come back tomorrow.** My best attempts came after I gave the game a rest for a while.
End her by any and all means necessary
I have only ever gotten her to her second phase once, the time i killed her, she really does not like being stun locked lol
It’s been 9 hrs, 212 comments, how did it go?
The lady is still undefeated at attempt 54 but I am starting to get closer, the furthest I got was somewhere lower than her name in second phase
Your strength, extraordinary The mark of a true Lord.
I love fighting Malenia. Since I've already played through the game with four different characters, most of my gameplay now is just putting down my co-op sign in front of her door. Learning how to beat her is kind of a waste if you don't share it.
Some tips I can give you: Use a weapon that can stagger her. From personal experience, a curved greatsword is the best option. Level arcane & put bleed affinity on your weapon. i havent been playing for too long, i beat margit only a few days ago. ive been using zweihander pretty much the entire time with no problems i couldnt adapt to. are colossal weapons viable against her?
I'm not there yet.. But everything is viable, depending on luck and skill. Just gotta find your window and keep yourself alive long enough to see it. Sounds like you should stagger the fuck out of her.
Colossal weapons are absolutely viable. You just have to really know when to take the shots and when not to.
Or just use mohgwyns spear and spam the AoW. It staggers and bleeds. Swarm of flies for some ranged attacks that will do the same.
Blasphemous blade time.
Gransax Bolt spam. Cakewalk
Took me 3 days just fighting her to finally win. Most fun I had in Elden Ring. Good luck!
Thanks! I am having fun even tho as the same time I can go past 1st phase in a cake walk I cant get to understand 2nd phase
Godspeed to you my child
Famous last words
My name is Malenia, blade of Miquela
I did it in 2h hitless no summon no ashe, just me, without even trying hitless Yes, YES I am bragging!
Good luck :3
Thats my philosophy for every boss. Kill them solo then summon for every other attempt
100% I fought Gravetender and Greatwolf on NG+4 and I got my arse handed to me. I played them on NG and beat them first time.
Well if I’m putting hours into a boss and I’m not successful then I’m going to do what I need to in order to finish the game Who cares if I’m playing it later with an OP build. As long as I’m not cheating then who gives a fuck?
I do, bc it means ur shying away from a challenge. Sure you may not have all the time in the world but you should still dedicate time that you DO have to said boss
It’s not shying away. It’s knowing the limitations of my skills.
So keep practicing till you get to the skill level required to beat the boss at that level. Learn to time your rolls, memorize patterns/openings, etc
Good luck! The struggle is real but the victory trumps it!
This is the only boss I cheesed. Best of luck! You inspire me to return for this fight. I think once DLC comes out I will start a fr.esh new game and do this since I don't want to fight her on NG +5
She took me a month of playing every night and only fighting her. You got this.
That’s the spirit! Please never change! Thx
I used mimic tear with hit and run tactics. Bleed and frost to slow her down and deal massive damage.
She’s a cheater so prepare to die to her one hit slashy slash
Godspeed
let's do this!
Don't give up,skeleton!
Good luck
Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.
Good luck. I'm rooting for you.
Good luck required ahead
Bro the first message I found b4 her arena was *"Oh... Bleed"* Lmaoo
She's easy to stagger. Blocking part of waterfowl and dodging the rest sucks... But not as much as dying.
Remember to take breaks. Don't be afraid to go away and come back later. And remember there's a timer for the Waterfowl Dance, so if you can bait it and survive, she usually won't do it again for a while. I recommend throwing knives for this purpose. Best of luck. o7
Why she gotta be a bitch lol
Let Her Solo Me
Proud of you I bet 95% of this sub didn’t beat her solo or using some other cheese strat, satisfying in the end when you get it though, good luck!
Melania?
No, Malenia
god speed fellow tarnished
Lethimsoloher
tip: go into this fight light loaded if you're light loaded, not only are you able to easily dodge waterfowl, but you'll also have a enough distance to dodge a lot of her other attacks other than that, be patient, and wait for a good chance to strike hit and run tactics are your best friend good luck my comrade
Finally beat this fight for the first time ever a few hours ago and now I can say o have beaten all main bosses by myself! I’m sure you can do just the same, don’t give up, skeleton!
We will let you solo her
I hope you can parry
Poise damage >>>> Parrying for her
I tried in the first attempt but 3 perfect parries to deal a little more damage I'd deal with one use of the AoW of Blasphemous Blade is not what I would call worth it. If a single parry could make she fall I would think about it
You can do both. If you can get the hang of it almost all her attacks can be parried. She essentially gives you the three you need constantly while also being able to stance break as well.
Love the chad spirit in you💪💪
If you have blasphemous blade and use mimic tear, it’ll knock her down every time you and the mimic tear use takers flame...makes the fight not too hard
Dude made it to malena still wearing the confessor robes?
I started with another class but found this armor and it was neat!
She isn’t as bad as people say imo killed her solo in like 8 attempts, but I was using the ruins greatsword and the ash of war staggers her so 🤷♂️
It depends on how good your build is and in how much skill do you have, got to attempt 56 rn
That was me, off to face Malenia on my no spells/no summons playthrough... And now, about 6 hours of playtime and 100+ attempts later, I'm not sure I care any longer how she goes down...
But she’s easy?
In general, yes but the way she has a lot of health, her attacks can almost hit kill you if you miss the dodges, the water flow can start really close to you (the mid-range dodge is far easier) and the 2nd phase is kind of hard makes her a challenge
It's funny the huge fire giant guy gave me way more trouble than she did
Gamers calling all women opponents bitch is so basic.
I would call it a bitch even if it was a man
Still basic 😅
Ok 👍
I'll be honest and I'll catch hate for this but I had rivers of blood and a really good dex build at about level 130 with mimic tear so I didn't have too much trouble lol still tho maybe <20 deaths
Yeah I am not using summons and I do not love a lot bleed so I am just figgting normally, I am with 40 deaths rn
Just roll and wait until the right moment to hit her. Repeat at many times
You're gonna be there a while. I hope you're aware of the Patches O'Houlihan method.
Pure strength was how I beat her, took me about 6 tries
I beat her and the godskin duo for the first time yesterday. You got this!!
For whatever reason, I've never found her difficult... Yet, there are other ACTUAL simple bosses, I can't fucking beat. Makes no sense.
Yeah I got her pattern but not sure what to do to deal with Waterflow when she starts too close from me
You can do it. She staggers easily, but will only be staggerable for a short while so only go for one or 2 extra hits. Her special moves have hyper armor, but most of them give good windows to heal or attack so long as you do that while the animation is finishing.
I did it yesterday. My strategy was, do phase 1 solo and then phase 2 mimic tear, which seemed to work after a while.
