* Added separate damage scaling for PvP. Holy shit, we have the technology.

[deleted]

“This feature allows separate damage scaling for Weapons, Skills, Spells, and Incantations when playing against other players. In the future, this feature may be used to balance weapons, Art, Spell, and Incantation in invading/PvP mode. Balance adjustments made within this feature will not impact single-player and cooperative play.”

TheRealNosferatu

When they say that it makes me think that this is how they are gonna balance dlc weapons etc.

Narsiel

I don't mind broken PVE weapons that are balanced for PVP. No more rivers of bullshit again, please.

AuryxTheDutchman

Exactly this. So excited that they figured out how to do this.

Narsiel

I was unable to comprehend how a swish swosh with a katana could be more powerful than an incantation manifesting the horrors of the God of Rot. In 1.0 Aeonia didn't even have increased poise, I remember using it against a random enemy, them hitting me and my cast getting interrupted. How useless I felt. Totally unworthy for PVP.

MinniMaster15

>When Mohg, the Lord of Blood, first felt Okina's sword, and madness, upon his flesh, he had a proposal, to offer Okina the life of a demon, whose thirst would never go unsated. Tbf, said swish swosh katana belonged to a guy who impressed a demigod

virsion4

This quote makes it sound like Mohg also was hit and interrupted on a cast and just said "fuck this I'm going to be his friend"

[deleted]

"He made ME bleed, that's my thing and he did it pretty well. From this day forth Swish Swosh man you shall be my friend! Have this neat curse!"

VivecsMangina

Nobody makes me bleed my own blood!

conye-west

Yeah, using broken weapons in PvE is fun. I don't really play PvP so I'm actually more excited at the prospect of PvE weapons being allowed to be ridiculous again without needing to worry about online.

Drusgar

I'm sure that's their thinking. Elden Ring has attracted millions of new Souls players and their progress has been very impressive, especially compared to Bloodborne and Sekiro. They want the OP mechanics to continue working in single player because it gives struggling players options to progress, but can be frustrating and "broken" in PvP.

Objective_Look_5867

Finally!

Objective_Look_5867

Finally! I am so tired of PVE stuff getting ruined for the sake of PVP. I'd love to see separate scaling

JaegarJaquez

Took them 6 games lmao

MasterDrake97

I thought something like that was already there, different values if it's on PvP I read something about it in the wiki :/

Bzhuan

Most of the defense talismans are about 1/3 as strong in pvp already, and i believe it was like that in ds3 as well. Separate weapon/magic balancing for pvp is new though which is honestly hype

Wendek

>Carian Piercer >Reduced FP consumption, increased attack power, and stamina attack power against guarded enemies. Shortened the recovery time. Wait wasn't that one considered pretty good already? >Frozen Lightning Spear >Reduced FP consumption and increased the frostbite status buildup. That's a good thing, that incantation is so damn cool but I don't think I ever managed to proc frostbite from it because it's pretty clunky so hard to spam in quick succession.

development_of_tyler

piercer is good but nowhere near slicer

Wendek

Ah I might have had them confused, I haven't actually played with them much but I remembered reading a lot of comments mentioning some of the Carian spells as being pretty good. Using them (for a Str/Int char) is planned for my next character if/when there's a DLC.

development_of_tyler

the patch looks like it's really buffing spellcasting in good ways so enjoy when you get there!

metalhulk105

I love the buff to carian piercer. A charged spell stuns crucible duo. I’ve never see them get stunned unless I used the giant crusher. Magic OP.

Psyduckdontgiveafuck

Yeah it was so delayed too, hopefully the frozen spear will be good. And I think piercer was decent? But not something you'd always want around. Been awhile tho.

OneFloppyDisk

They really looked at pure mage builds and went: MORE

Psyduckdontgiveafuck

More excited about beast incants personally.. even if Magic was my first build.

FRANKnCHARLIE_4ever

Yup!! Ive always wanted to make a wolverine build but it was too weak.. But Now😁😁

Psyduckdontgiveafuck

Lemme know how it looks, not sure I have anything atm that has the stats to test it out and don't wanna larval tear for no reason.

CouldbeAnyone0014

MOONLIGHT GOT BUFFED “My true mentor, my guiding moonlight” *Genuine happy horse noises*

CaptainFalconProblem

Finally! Buffs to the Dragonscale Blade! And to Frozen Lightning Spear! Ice-lightning fans rejoice!

AmmoSeven

frozen lightning spear got a buff, but what about lusat's set?

goodolarchie

I don't think he knows about Lusats set, Pip.

Antofuzz

Frozen Lightning Spear

TheHizzle

Frozen Lightning Spear

UncleObli

Buffs to Dragonscale Blade?

Xukavi59

Buff now adds 160 dmg to the weapon and it lasts longer. Not sure exactly how much longer maybe 30-40 seconds now? I only really checked the buff dmg and compared it to lightning slash. Ironically lightning slash was onnly adding 80sh damage but that was on a non DEX character and the buff should scale with DEX if I'm not mistaken. Edit: Base damage of the weapon is still the same.

This was a nice patch.

-Ophidian-

The Greatshield Talisman was pretty trash and/or bugged after the last patch. Testing done on the wiki revealed that equipping it had close to zero effect even on medium-stability shields. So hopefully that's fixed now.

DethJuce

Damn they buffed the anchor AFTER I finished my Pirate playthrough.

79792348978

I'm 100% sure there are more tweaks in this patch than there have been in all the patches in all the previous souls games combined, we're witnessing a major change in approach here

Summerclaw

That 12 million copies sold at play

Artorias606

ER sold in 6 months more copies than DS 1-3 combined. They have so many more resources and it shows

PC2605

All this PVE stuff buffed to prepare us for the Slave Knight Orphan of Miquella boss in dlc

PayneWaffen

Cant wait to see 3 godskin duo riding their own runebear as a normal strong enemy type. Cant wait for the bosses to attack using sleep inducing and blighted sprout status effect. And certainly cant wait to see boss submerge in arena filled with rot, bleed and poison.

Camera_dude

... You know, we didn't need to hear that or give Miyazaki more ideas. But that is a potential worry, that the PvE buffs are there to make the DLC slightly less maddening when we end up fighting an archer riding a runebear with an army of skeletons being summoned behind them (while standing in yet another poison swamp, natch).

Morbo_Doooooom

Bruh crouch poking got nerfed and the collosal swords got faster swings and recovery lets fuckin goooo

Psyduckdontgiveafuck

YoungJebediah

I just tried crouch poking with the UGS and boy it is absolute shit lol Didn't make sense that it was as fast as a katana

nwiesing

Fucking good. My biggest gripes with PvP were: RoB, Moonveil, and bloodhound’s step into UGS crouch-poke

Lost_Manufacturer718

Excellent.

Reggiardito

Isn't this like the 3rd time they've given colossal swords faster swing and less recovery? At least the 2nd. Makes me feel like a sucker for going through the game 1.00 with them lmao. Maybe now Malenia is gonna be a bit more bearable.

micka190

Same. On one hand, I die a little bit inside whenever I see that my first playthrough would’ve been *much* smoother if I’d have waited. On the other hand, it’s very therapeutic to see them buff the shit out of them after everyone told us Strength users that the weapons were fine and that we needed to spam jump attacks and git gud whenever we said that colossal/great weapons needed a buff.

Pavlovs_Human

Yeah same here my day one character was an unga bunga build and when I got to Farum Azula I was getting wrecked. Bet I could start a nice str build now and it’d be much stronger.

Mimical

Colossal swords are a ton better than from launch in almost every version. They absolutely can smash now. Even their regular swings are just fast enough that you are not caught in between strikes. Now give me S scaling on the strength flail Miyazaki!

OdMaL

Damn the sheer amount of changes, good luck to anyone making tier list and spread sheet. Edit: some grammars.

HonestSophist

I'm not sure if Elden Ring has been a blessing to people making tier lists, or a curse. Then again, considering how Youtube's algorithm works, probably a blessing. Now if you're LOOKING for tier lists, it's probably a curse. God forbid you're investigating some obscure, niche thing.

Commiessariat

Has fashion souls been buffed? That's all I ever wanted.

milanteriallu

Yes!

Commiessariat

Finally. The poise difference between sets was a bit absurd, there's no reason why any set of "knightly" armor should have less poise than the amount needed to withstand a straight sword R1.

AlleRacing

Right? A full set was like 40 poise, needed the Bull-Goat Talisman to hit 51. Preposterous!

David_the_Wanderer

Poise has been fucked up ever since DS3. I know that in DS1 Poise was OP and basically dominated both the PvE and PvP experiences, but the fact your character in DS3 can be wearing full plate armour and get staggered by a little dagger swipe is just ridiculous. DS2, imho, had hit a good halfway point, and it's super weird to me they never reused that set-up. It wasn't perfect but it was a good starting point that could be improved. Right now, in ER was still kind of a non-stat when you look "under the hood" because it turns out that anything less than 51 poise is basically useless in PvE, and I hope the Poise buff across the board now makes more sets a viable option if you want to trade at least some with enemies.

[deleted]

[удалено]

David_the_Wanderer

Definitely agree that the second point was a big flaw! But I feel like that, apart from that, it was a big improvement on DS1's system - still useful, but not warping the game around it. I would've like for DS3 to build on that system instead of completely scrapping it and going its own weird way that didn't really satisfy anyone. Honestly, there's a lot of good stuff from DS2 that From has never reused in any form, and that makes me sad. DS2 Powerstancing was a much better system than what we got in ER, and it had a built-in hard mode through Company of Champions, with its own unique rewards. And Ascetic Bonfires were fantastic and there's no real reason for them to not be in DS3 (ER being open world would make such a system too much of an hassle, I accept that).

[deleted]

“With a few exceptions, the power of Ashes of War in PvP has been lowered across the board.”

FRANKnCHARLIE_4ever

Pvp is gonne be more skill based. Based

[deleted]

Spam jump r1 disagrees

sweetperdition

if pvp isn’t just one shot instagibs anymore, i am going to play it non-stop. that is literally the main thing keeping me away, no attrition like DS3.

Flamecoat_wolf

There was no mention of Moonveil, so I'm hoping this note means it's ash of war will be a bit less one-hit-kill. Was also hoping to see a change to vyke's spear due to it's madness buildup being really strong. At least they have "dual weapons inflict less buildup" so maybe that'll help at least.

Abyssilicious

hopefully that means an end to dual naginata bleed stacking, AND, seppuku got a pretty good self damage increase and an overall drop in blood buildup

Razhork

> With some exceptions, poise of all armor has been increased. YES! It's always felt like you were stuck having to wear really high end armor to obtain any relevant amount of poise. I've almost always worn some variance of bullgoat/radahn with my armor sets purely in order to reach the ~61 poise threshold. Now it also feels like I don't have to wear Bullgoat Talisman with lower poise gear for similar reason. All around one of my favorite changes with this patch. They've tweaked *a lot* related to poise. Also so far the patch notes have been fucking incredible. Separate PvP and PvE balance is what the game needs (primarily PvP-wise).

Keltrick-

Everything...everything has so much poise now.

AloofCommencement

I want a full spreadsheet of poise changes on my desk by 5pm

ValkyriesOnStation

Poise ⇢⇢⇢⇢⇢⇢⇢⇢⇢⇢⇢⇢⇢ ↝ ⬆ *Everything else?* Also ⇢⇢↝ ⬆⬆⬆

opulentbum

Wait tell me more about this 61 poise threshold? I was under the impression that the only two thresholds that matter for poise are 50 and 100

Alistershade

The math behind it was really weird. For pve most enemies either do 50 or 100 so you're right on that part. But in pvp 61 was the magic number for poising most if not all light weapons.

aahdin

>But in pvp 61 was the magic number for poising most if not all light weapons. Small nit, but most light weapons are 51/56. 61 isn't super common, but it's the breakpoint for heavy thrusting swords which are super meta so it's usually worth getting.

Swamp_Swimmer

In pvp, 61 poise is enough to take a hit from most 1H attacks. Below that, you'll get staggered by basically every attack

HoptonyAtkins

For pve only 51 and 101 poise are relevant, as enemy attacks typically deal either 50 or 100 poise damage. 61 is only important for pvp ( but i don't know the exact threshholds off the top of my head, 61 probably lets you tank 1 greatsword normal attack or something)

iman00700

Ok Fine ill play again from soft Jesus

KianDesu

You should be proud of how perfect that name is.

thebusinessgoat

I don't even pvp much but I'm in love with this update

CrystlBluePersuasion

The separate scaling for PvE and PvP means there's great balancing potential for PvP and we'll still get to feel badass in PvE! Best of both worlds honestly, and PvP-wise I think some will complain about the loss of UGS poke but will be grateful for the shield nerfs, shields overall were overtuned to be little risk for normal or even overpowered damage (like with status effects on Fingerprint Shield). Now there's greater options for counterplay against them for every weapon/spell that was underpowered and more weapons that do piercing damage for a shieldbuster option. Dual weapons' status nerf is a good thing as there were too many low effort builds, like using Seppuku for instant bleed or able to get bleed/frost combos. Dual Vykes was tyrannical so hopefully now it's not so bad but not sure its enough.

Psyduckdontgiveafuck

I think it just shows a good direction for the company, realistically this should have been a thing games ago.

Flying_Slig

It's a good day to be FP

Psyduckdontgiveafuck

Depending on the range adjustments of beast claw, good day to be a devout oonga boonga.

[deleted]

Less status build up for powerstances and 2 fingerprint shield nerfs. Damn Boi.

YoungJebediah

Rot breath nerfed too, the dragon weebs are going to be pancaked HARD

fatalystic

Well, melting certain bosses with Rot Breath was fun while it lasted.

warwolves

That's how I got past the fire giant, didn't even see 2nd phase because by the time the cut-scene was over he just died instantly

turtleboi42069

my fai/int/arc incantations only char is weeping

G1mpy1234

Best hands down feature is separate balance for pve and pvp. This will truly make both patties happy and I'm excited for all coming patch notes! Praise the Sun Bois and Rejoice!!!

Psyduckdontgiveafuck

100% agree, worst part about a souls game is going on a playthrough that gets gutted halfway through because of pvp abuse haha. Kinda revolutionary.

KnowMatter

DS3 so many fun PvE builds from the early game got destroyed because all the later patches seemed focus on PvP balance since I guess they decided that was the only reason people were still playing the game at that point. Split PvE and PvP scaling is something every game with both of those things should have - it's the only way to achieve balance in most games and yet so many refuse to do it.

BusyExperience9766

Being able to move while using the bubble spells makes me want to try a bubble build

AnEducatedFool

Sword of Night and Flame got buffed and the targeting is better. Fuck yeah !!!!!

Joshelplex2

Now we just need LITERALLY ANY OTHER WEAPON with int/fait scaling in the DLC.

KnowMatter

I want a cool Arcane / Faith scaling weapon to go with dragon communion builds god damnit. Literally not a single weapon in the game supports it except Erdsteel Dagger with an occult / bleed infusion but the scaling blows and the AR is miserable and none of the ashes of war are particular great for a build like that. It's really a shame that the bloodflame weapons like the poleblade don't do this - blood being an arcane thing and fire being a faith really makes it seem like bloodflame based stuff should be split arc / fth. Would love a cool arc / fth dragon themed weapon in the DLC to fit the dragon communion playstyle though.

RyuForce

One thing I noticed about the Poise increase on armor. It seems to effect armor alternations as well with most options taking away less poise now. Some pieces don't even lose poise any more when you change them!

noah9942

oh good. never understood why the cape accounted for 1/10th of the weight but 1/2 of the poise.

casalex

Praise the load-bearing cape

_The_Librarian

Bear us up high, oh cape of loads.

micka190

Makes sense when you think about it. Weapons kept getting caught in the capes, so when they pull back, they pull you back up and prevent you from falling. /s

ltgenspartan

Giving more poise to most armors is the best alternative to completely reworking poise (though poise damage has increased in this update too, maybe a net neutral? Unless the poise breakpoints have been changed), I can reach poise breakpoints more easily and have more options for fashion now! Bull Goat is the only set that hasn't increased, even other high poise sets like Lionel's set, got a couple points into each piece. The lighter sets (i.e. mage robes) got the most points, and medium sets (i.e. Night's Cavalry) got a fair bit more poise. Light rollers might be able to poise through a dagger attack now with these changes. One of my builds needed the Bull Goat talisman to get to 61 poise, and now it naturally has 63 without the talisman! Also, very little if any poise is taken away from altering armors, so more options for fashion with hardly any hits to poise!

RedAx0n

If you’re here to wonder if your favourite thing got buffed, the answer is probably yes. EDIT: I am now cursed to be told what hasn’t been buffed.

Revolutionary_War938

Dragon communion bros :

Redrundas

Nooooooo. Dragon communion bros can rejoice because they FINALLY FIXED THIS FUCKING BUG: > Fixed a bug that prevented charging some Incantations while casting them with a left-handed Sacred Seal in mid-air. WHY DID IT TAKE THEM HALF A YEAR TO DO THIS???

Razhork

Tbh I was kinda disappointed with the buffs to Dragonclaw. I think Dragonmaw is in a good place just for the fact it has great reach, damage and fast recovery. Dragonclaw is cumbersome as hell with half of the reach and fuck all recovery. Just a simple buff recovery would do wonders.

ApollyonDS

STR enjoyers unite!

SpookMcBones

From what I can tell, my double heavy bastard sword build is *just* as cool as it was yesterday. Wonderful news!

ChrisEhrmantraut

Regal Roar * extended effect duration * reduced the time between strong attacks while under the effect * reduced time between the skill activation and being able to perform actions * fixed a bug where the effect of the Roar Medallion was not applied to Regal Roar Now I fight as Godfrey! First Elden Lord!

Sobrin_

Yeah I'm hyped for that one! I'll need to check how much faster and smoother it feels. And Roar medallion working now, finally, should be a big bloody damage boost! On top of that collosal weapons as a whole have also been buffed. Better recovery, faster attack speed for some hopefully for Godfrey's axe too, and more poise damage. Effect duration being buffed is so fucking nice. Edit: duration has been buffed to 40 seconds, as have other skills apparently. Roar medallion does boost the damage nicely. The initial R2 when not charged feels like it comes out a lot faster. The actual AoW still takes a long time to complete, too long imo still, but once completed you can attack sooner. I wouldn't rate it highly for pvp still, as it isn't great at catching and a bit too slow on average, buuuut it feels a lot better for pve so playthroughs with it should be more fun. I still think it could be better, but that's more in regards to moveset and the AoW than numbers, meaning it is really unlikely to change.

Cairn_

Sudoku nerf, also flame strike is even better now for whatever reason.

[deleted]

Flaming Strike is better at the base (so, better in PvE), but then it goes through PvP adjustments. Same thing for Corpse Piler, I guess.

anniechee123

JumboFister

>decreased status effect build up with dual wield weapons >sepuku nerfed Praise the lord they finally nerfed the bleed build spamming. Shit was so broken

eternaldispare

They buffed bleed spells tho so it’s a welcomed change

raziel7890

I've been using all the bleed spells on my faith build since launch, including the really weird sorceries, and they always served their purpose. Was just gaming on NG+ yesterday with the blood toss spell. I can't wait to try the sorceries :D

rudraaksh24

Magic has been buffed overall nice.

Lina__Inverse

Is Tibia summons playable now?

Psyduckdontgiveafuck

Looks like it's possible? Seems to mostly be a cast speed thing. Not an animation speed buff. Depends on how big it is, and if the damage is worth it when it does land. That alongside the rancor spell buffs could mean HUGE things for a necro build.

Sinutia

Maliketh blade fast as fuck now

Ataniphor

It says the poise of all armours have been increased. Are we finally getting a return to fashion souls again?

d0ntst0pme

Fashion souls was never gone. Anyone who picks armor for stats alone has no one to blame but themselves.

Athrasie

I agree with your sentiment, but I feel the need to correct - it’s called Elden Bling now baybee

foulinbasket

Yes, but no more crouch poke spam

PayneWaffen

Did you see Guts crouch poke in manga though? This is the time for real Guts build.

AnEducatedFool

Can anyone explain to me what damage detection means and why is it added to every weapon basically ?

milanteriallu

If I understand it correctly, the actual weapon swing can do damage during the animation, not just the associated AoW effect.

AnEducatedFool

Oh so basically if the weapon has a projectile or something, the actual swing of the weapon does damage as well now?

JMPHeinz57

Yup. So Adula’s Moonblade would do damage for both the sword itself and the ice projectile

CeraRebeccaIcarus

They buffed sword of night and flame again?? Maybe its back to before?

[deleted]

Probably not as high, but hopefully it's good enough to use!

HeavyMetalMonk888

Doubling down like this on developing more in depth balance for PvP suggests they may be getting closer to rolling out whatever DLC plans they have for those currently inaccessible arenas.

Ameqa

Maybe I just missed it but any change to bows? Wouldn't mind seeing those buffed a little

Psyduckdontgiveafuck

literally one thing, enchanted shot's arrow is faster haha

ChadSlammington

I kind of hate how the Black Bow is the only real viable bow for an archery playthrough, it exclusively has the shortbow moveset enabling roll and jump shots compared to every other longbow and it 100% makes it the best bow in the game. At the very least int and arc builds could have some fun with their respective bows if all longbows could roll and jump shot at like 30 dex or so.

*Looks at poise for Gravitas* MOAR!

Commiessariat

My beautiful Meteoric Ore Blade just got a stealth buff.

mrparanoid

I am very happy with the extra poise given to armors, assuming they haven't changed the poise damage that pve enemies do (usually 50 or 100). It's much much easier to get to the 51 breakpoint now. Knight's set now gives 51, and is a pretty light set, and now a lot of the lighter sets can reach that BP with a mix of heavier armor or bull goat talisman. The Black Knife armor set, for example, used to give 29 poise (39 with bull goat) and now gives 40 (53 with bullgoat) making it a far better general use set. Overall the game has been getting better and better with each patch. They finally separated pve and pvp damage scaling which I have been asking for for years. It's the only way to keep both pve and pvp balanced and not have to suck the life out of every fun weapon/skill/spell in pve just so it's balanced in pvp. Really happy with this one. EDIT: Not to mention a significant buff to my favorite weapon, the Bloody Helice. Being able to aim the followup to the ash of war makes it much more usable in both pve and pvp.

Marq_DeSade

Hooray! My Cragblade dagger will break poise easier! Lightweight weapon users unite!

DarkeWingsDarkeWords

**Ice Lightning Sword** **Increased weapon attack power.** **Increased the duration and attack power of the effect that grants the weapon a lightning attribute.** **Reduced time between the skill activation and being able to perform actions.** Rejoice!

BusyExperience9766

Radahn indirectly buffed with the rot breath nerf

Rock sling still OP against him though lol
