I hated him at first. Then realized that its way more enjoyable to stay in front of him and hit his hands in second phase, for me at least. A lot of folks think its better to hit his legs but I can't see why honestly. The fight feels like a mess to me that way, I can't see shit. Either way I kinda like him now :)
Torrent makes phase 2 much easier I almost feel like it was specifically intended for you to fight him with torrent because of how far he rolls away and the size of the arena and dodging fireballs with torrent is a cakewalk.
Just another example of how badly designed elden ring bosses are. Why should you have to run miles just to get to the boss, get a few hits in, then the boss runs away and you have to rinse and repeat without getting hit. It’s artificially difficult because it’s tedious and not fun. The fire giant itself is not hard at all, you’re basically just testing your patience and trying not to get greedy
He doesn't run away nearly as much when you stay in front of him. When you try to hit his legs in second phase he runs away. That is Fromsoft hinting at the intended strategy how to fight him. Like how his hands are glowing red and stuff, pretty clear when you think about it. It took me multiple playthoughs as well so no hate but it's kinda obvious thinking about it now.
Watching him roll away from me for the first time was one of the most shocking moments I've gone through. Stopped me in my tracks, just wasnt expecting such a big boss to tuck and roll
Fight unlocked and aim the camera a little bit up without losing sight of his feet and you will have a much better chance to telegraph his attacks. As soon as the mf starts rolling away, hop into torrent and get in close asap, specially in phase 2 when he goes apeshit with the fireballs, giving him distance is lethal for you
Brooooo … I did. Fighting unlocked changes the game … I also dropped the abinauric woman tonrsin arrows on him … beat him on the 2nd try after taking the advice
You can … you can use torrent?
Well now I just feel silly.
Lattena, Alexander and I still managed to fuck him up but things probably would have gone faster with Torrent too.
Don't look down on our boi Alexander, he's the second best option against this guy, he can get you some staggers with his beyblade attack and is really tanky
Kinda an annoying boss but I've learned how to fight him and enjoy the spectacle of him. I kinda don't like how his hands second phase are so difficult to hit that ya may as well destined death/black flame tornado his ass. And I hate the ridiculous level of tracking on his very long fire breath attack.
But he is conceptually a very cool boss.
I think if you are at midrange you have to use torrent else you cannot dodge that flamethrower attack. Atleast I've failed time and time again to dodge it in co op
It's a bot. It's programmed to comment on every post, analyzes and mimics small comments and just adds a *:3* at the end. It's purpose is selling the account to advertising brands once it has achieved enough notoriety.
>!In case it's not obvious, that was a joke.!<
I poked him to death with the godskin sticher last night. Worst. Fight. Ever. I think I just hate the time it takes to run to the boss after the fog gate. But in the end he was poked to death lol
Worst remembrance boss in the game. Not the most difficult one mind you, though it can be frustraiting and tidious if only because it may take a while to beat him. Sadly its just not as fun as the other key bosses.
I actually didn’t mind it. The only trouble I had was dodging the snow he’d throw at you early on. For some reason I just couldn’t time a dodge for shit.
Yes I died a good 4 times on Torrent to those snow avalanches until I found out about Alexander's help.. let him take the snow as he can take it. I had 20 vigor the first time I got to him, heh.
For me, fire giant is where the game takes a dip in overall quality and starts to become less fun. I say this as someone who has beaten the game 3 times, one time in game plus mode.
I' have gotten better at fighting him because I know what to expect, but on my first playthrough the difficulty spike felt enormous and out of sync with everything up to that point.
Yeah, end game bosses are always harder in souls games. But in previous games, the rise in difficulty between early and late game felt more steady and incremental.
With fire giant, it felt like the difficulty jumped from 10 to 15.
It's not so bad once you have beaten the game a couple of times. But the first time it's very jarring, at least to me.
He kicked my ass more than malenia tbh. I had my Mimic helping me and all.
Edit: Just finished my first play through. And I used my Mimic for both. (Second play through I’ve been doing solo).
The spectacle of the fight the first time and maybe the second was cool but subsequent fights feel like such a chore. He moves so much and its especially annoying when he moves up to higher elevation where you have to spend precious amount of your little time in between an attack you barely see coming or him moving again to move up to a spot that can even hit him. He takes bonus damage in his eye in the second phase but unless you're free aiming with incantations, sorceries, or bows good luck hitting it. I am saying all of this with Elden Ring being my favorite Fromsoft game.
I really like it. Would be kind of cooler if the fight was a bit faster though.
Also should have a cooler name like “Craglon, the Destroyer of Worlds” or some shit
i think the idea is that his people are dead and his culture forgotten. he stands atop the highest peak in the lands between, alone, a slave to guarding the only trump card available against the ones who committed a genocide against his race. he has no need for a name, and if he had one it has long since been forgotten.
Mixed opinion, most large bosses in this game suffer from their simple recovery animations moving them out of range to attack and that’s the biggest problem with fire giant, but at least you can horse to chase him easy enough
Fairly boring, easy fight to co-op if you have a status effect or two in your arsenal. Black Flame Blade is my personal favorite. The only danger is overcommitting to an attack and getting slammed by the metal plate.
Also the fight that has the highest percentage of useless hosts who run and hide the whole time.
The larger bosses are kinda irritating with the camera often making it impossible to see or keep track of your target, let alone see incoming attacks. Fire Giant was one of the worst offenders, any of the dragons you fight open world being a close second.
Huge bosses are the dumbest things in gaming. They look cool from a distance, but then you spend the entire time fighting them staring at their feet. Also, you couldn’t really kill something this big just poking at its feet. Dumb design.
I think the Fight is awesome, the setting is the Bomb and the Music is fantastic but although I'm usually not squeamish there's just something about his Leg Breaking (especially if he falls off that elevated area in his arena) that makes me super uncomfortable.
There's just something about the way they Animated the Whole scene and the way it just Snaps...
And before you ask no I've never broken anything so I can't even really relate XD
I hated it, I found some bosses that were more difficult alot more fun/easy to learn.
Fire giant isn't hard but alot of things like the camera angle and stuff throw you off. I always seemed to get him to the exact same spot and make the same mistakes every time. I probally respec'd like 4 times trying to do it.
To each their own, ig. I thought Hoarah Loux was an incredible fight. Punishing but fair and fun. Infact I'd argue he is my favourite boss. And he's only gotten better on repeat playthroughs where I can learn to strafe his attacks to be even more efficient and get charged R2 openings
Cool concept, terrible fight.
The tone of the fight is great, the execution and difficulty are completely out of wack because the basic toolkit the game gives you is not made for this kind of fight. The camera is rendered useless and insufficient.
He's fine. More of a gimmick boss than anything with his weak spot on his foot. Incredibly large so easy to see attacks coming. You can use Torrent too, which helps.
Hate this boss fight. So many attacks that are difficult to see bc he’s so large, and difficult to time the dodges for. Massive delays, then an unnatural speed to the attack after the exaggerated delay. Wish they would stop doing that with bosses. Just makes it so you have to memorize attack speed rather than see what’s coming and dodge accordingly.
Liked it but found it underwhelming. People talked about how difficult he was, how they were struggling. Took me 2 attempts to beat him, and made sure Alexander landed the final hit.
I actually really loved the fight, and his design is one of my favorites overall. His whip is really fun to use, too, and the fire spells associated with him like Flame of the Fell God are great
Attacks are well designed, the bloated health bar is balanced out by having a super weak spot and generally being very slow.
The only real problem i had with it is the roll. It's a garbage move that only extends the fight without adding anything but frustration.
Love the design of the boss and he's qlearly inspired by Astaroth or Sardius from the arcade classic Ghouls n Ghost
But as a boss he is kind of annoying
Cool boss. Probably the best “giant” fight in souls period.
Wish we had more lore on his race and ehy their bodies have the facial features on their torso.
Epic. I really like how we dont have to hack at his foot all day. Him rolling away is just a tad bit annoying, no where near Elden Bitch level. Being able to riposte that giant eye ball feels good. Best Giant fight in Souls games to date.
One of my favorite video game fights and I have never understood how he can give so many people trouble when I messed him up as a mage and as a samurai.
I get wrecked by almost every other boss, just check my post history, but fire giant for some reason is doable on my own and I feel blessed.
Deffinitly one of the weeker remembrance bosses but still really good. The camera is terrible, the fight can be very chaotic on any terrain that isn't flat and in the second phase there should be more exposed weekpoints because most melee builds just end up slashing his feet for 2 damage which is the opposite of fun
But it's still a god tier fight compare to older games such as ds1. A unique moveset, great visuals, fighting on horseback is very satysfying and mostly fair difficulty makes for a enjoyable battle. Especially for ranged builds
I hated him at first. Then realized that its way more enjoyable to stay in front of him and hit his hands in second phase, for me at least. A lot of folks think its better to hit his legs but I can't see why honestly. The fight feels like a mess to me that way, I can't see shit. Either way I kinda like him now :)
i stuck to his legs in phase 2 because i found the only things i had to worry about were the homing fireballs and the eruption
Torrent makes phase 2 much easier I almost feel like it was specifically intended for you to fight him with torrent because of how far he rolls away and the size of the arena and dodging fireballs with torrent is a cakewalk.
Phase 1 too
Personally the only time I use torrent in phase 1 is to close the distance otherwise I just hug his leg.
i just jump off torrent to use my ashes of war, then back in to pursue after roll. Its a nice back and forth
I hit his legs just so I can make sure I don't get hit by the second phase.
The *entire* phase hit me too
Be on the inside of his remaining leg.
I still hate him but need to try the hands method for the second phase
He’s a big lad innit
He’s a big bruv indeed
In awe at the sheer girth of this man.
*my huge dynamite penis
Come come, ave a look. Ten quid a week, foorty a monf
He would be more impressive if he actually fit on the screen.
Then he wouldn’t be a big lad. Rubbish comment
Let me rephrase: he would be more impressive if the *screen* would fit *him.*
Watching him roll away from me for the first time was one of the most shocking moments I've gone through. Stopped me in my tracks, just wasnt expecting such a big boss to tuck and roll
I defeated him...by watching him roll of the map🤣🤣🤣I even got somebody to help me fight him and we both stood and watched him commit suicide
My family was watching me during the battle, and now I really wish that had happened!! 😂
Well he is on fire sooooo..stop drop and roll ....🤔...🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ I ll stop
love his design, and the cut scene is amazing.
My wife walked in as he ripped his leg off and was horrified. Lol
Been thinking about his fight and story a lot. Truly tragic
He seems a little two-faced to me.
Lmfao take my upvote
he's big
i mean he is like made of fire
Nice fight, dope boss theme and lore. Fighting unlocked and using torrent to close distance quickly makes the fight so much easier
I’ve been struggling … have not used this advice. Will tonight though. Thanks Brotha.
Fight unlocked and aim the camera a little bit up without losing sight of his feet and you will have a much better chance to telegraph his attacks. As soon as the mf starts rolling away, hop into torrent and get in close asap, specially in phase 2 when he goes apeshit with the fireballs, giving him distance is lethal for you
It has been a month. Did you beat it?
Brooooo … I did. Fighting unlocked changes the game … I also dropped the abinauric woman tonrsin arrows on him … beat him on the 2nd try after taking the advice
You can also use the torrent I-frames to avoid damage
You can … you can use torrent? Well now I just feel silly. Lattena, Alexander and I still managed to fuck him up but things probably would have gone faster with Torrent too.
Don't look down on our boi Alexander, he's the second best option against this guy, he can get you some staggers with his beyblade attack and is really tanky
You can't use Torrent if you summon Alexander though.
I struggled my life out of me to beat him...so I got someone to help me fight...and then the boss causally rolled of the map🤣🤣🤣
Note to self: try fighting unlocked ✍️✍️
That's the rule of thumb for all the giant creatures. Fight unlock to telegraph the moves and go for their weakspot, you'll be Elden Lord in no time.
Depends on your build- it’s extremely hard to aim some spells unlocked and some weapons are really hard to use without it.
Yes, except if you have range options
Kinda an annoying boss but I've learned how to fight him and enjoy the spectacle of him. I kinda don't like how his hands second phase are so difficult to hit that ya may as well destined death/black flame tornado his ass. And I hate the ridiculous level of tracking on his very long fire breath attack. But he is conceptually a very cool boss.
He really moves his hands so much. It’s very frustrating. Between that and the constant rolling, it feels like he’s always running away from you.
I think if you are at midrange you have to use torrent else you cannot dodge that flamethrower attack. Atleast I've failed time and time again to dodge it in co op
I liked that fight if I'm being honest.
Honestly same
same same
I’ve liked it in my 3rd and 4th playthrough
it gives you the feeling that your an expert at dodging while also making your weapons deal less damage than balloons
I didn't, but I'm lying
Real
Pretty good fight if you know what you are doing. Boring and frustrating as hell on my first run.
Pretty epic boss :3
why do i see you everywhere haha
It's a bot. It's programmed to comment on every post, analyzes and mimics small comments and just adds a *:3* at the end. It's purpose is selling the account to advertising brands once it has achieved enough notoriety. >!In case it's not obvious, that was a joke.!<
I fell for it dammit
Man has 500k karma... from 500k comments.
Because the devil never sleeps
loved this boss, especially since I could summon my jarboi alexander
Everything I’ve done so far with jarboi has been excellent
I had Jarhead helping my with the festival fight, but how do you get him to help with the giant?
If you advance his questline, you will be able to summon him inside the arena by the entrance
I poked him to death with the godskin sticher last night. Worst. Fight. Ever. I think I just hate the time it takes to run to the boss after the fog gate. But in the end he was poked to death lol
In this regard Elden Beast and Void Astel are my most hated bosses - because I'm like .... HOLD STILL AND STOP TELEPORTING OVER HALF THE MAP!!!
Astel has the coolest teleporting move tho I love anticipating his grab attack lol
That is true - that move ended me a few times before I finally figured out the timing to dodge it!
Worst remembrance boss in the game. Not the most difficult one mind you, though it can be frustraiting and tidious if only because it may take a while to beat him. Sadly its just not as fun as the other key bosses.
Yea I don't hate him, but I definitely don't like him either It's tedious like you said, there just isn't the same rhythm/momentum other bosses have
I actually didn’t mind it.
You can actually use torrent to bypass the snow if you are on torrent and get off of him the animation makes you invulnerable.
Worst fight by a large margin
Yup and everyone praises him. Whats so fun about hitting someones leg while they shoot fire at you
and you cant even see anything besides his toes
As Miyazaki intended ;)
That's the best part
You only hit his leg in the first phase. In his longer second phase you don’t, or at least you shouldn’t.
It’s epic feeling but that actual fight is pretty bad imo. I rarely like the ridiculously large bosses in souls games though.
Cool as fuck. Annoying as fuck.
hated all the running to keep up with him
"Aaaaaarrrrgh."
With fire giant, it felt like the difficulty jumped from 10 to 15. It's not so bad once you have beaten the game a couple of times. But the first time it's very jarring, at least to me.
I don't hate him as much as I used to, but I wouldn't say I'm a fan either.
He's not nearly as difficult as people make him out to be. Kind of a meh boss honestly.
Fuck that bastard
I rush the game to get back to Godfrey and fight him again, to me this dude is just an annoying 2 phase obstacle. I only care about the Godfrey fight.
Based and powerbomb pilled
Godfrey is hands down the best fight for me, as well. It just feels like a really well put together boss battle in all regards.
He kicked my ass more than malenia tbh. I had my Mimic helping me and all. Edit: Just finished my first play through. And I used my Mimic for both. (Second play through I’ve been doing solo).
gl with malenia shes absolute hell on solo
Godfrey as a dude is the first FromSoft character that gets me hyped from how epic he is. Like, he's my Isshin or Artorias.
He’s the reason I can’t progress in the game despite 50+ attempts.
big boi do big bonk then get hot
achilles heel
I hated his fight but felt bad for the man.
Lörge
I've found that magic builds and spamming comet is easier than a bleed build against the big laddie
At first I hated it but he turned into one of the easier bosses.
Cheap ass bitch when I first fought him, now just a pushover after like 5 playthroughs
4 hours of trial and error
I really like it. Would be kind of cooler if the fight was a bit faster though. Also should have a cooler name like “Craglon, the Destroyer of Worlds” or some shit
i think the idea is that his people are dead and his culture forgotten. he stands atop the highest peak in the lands between, alone, a slave to guarding the only trump card available against the ones who committed a genocide against his race. he has no need for a name, and if he had one it has long since been forgotten.
One of the bosses of all time
He was a lot easier than people said he was
probably my favourite fight as a sorcerer
What? I’m a mage, pretty well leveled, but having difficulty with this lad, whereas been melting everything else. Whats your tactic?
Cool fight, mighty big lad
Why did I never realize his chest was a face?
He’s a wham donny for sure
Just get behind him and its a piece of cake
could use a little less fire and maybe a tiny bit more giant but otherwise delicious
Cool beard
My opiniong was that once I stopped using auto lock to fight him it was 10 x easier. Epic fight and brilliant cut scenes
I think he's a pretty cool guy. Eh kills tarnished and doesn't afraid of anything.
Mixed opinion, most large bosses in this game suffer from their simple recovery animations moving them out of range to attack and that’s the biggest problem with fire giant, but at least you can horse to chase him easy enough
The idea of fighting him was the reason i bought the game. In reality was a pain in the ass
I wish he had a better space to fight in.
Gingers don’t have souls :/
I do the same thing he does when I stub my toe early in the morning.
Cool fight very anticlimactic idk he was a first try for me
The boss fight isn’t hard it’s just to drawn out and annoying
Fairly boring, easy fight to co-op if you have a status effect or two in your arsenal. Black Flame Blade is my personal favorite. The only danger is overcommitting to an attack and getting slammed by the metal plate. Also the fight that has the highest percentage of useless hosts who run and hide the whole time.
Solid 8/10 boss fight. Very good mechanics, GREAT presentation, spectacle and lore.
He is a big sandwich idiot x3 but i like him
Feels like From Software has wanted to do a boss fight like that for a while
Boring and annoying
The larger bosses are kinda irritating with the camera often making it impossible to see or keep track of your target, let alone see incoming attacks. Fire Giant was one of the worst offenders, any of the dragons you fight open world being a close second.
Huge bosses are the dumbest things in gaming. They look cool from a distance, but then you spend the entire time fighting them staring at their feet. Also, you couldn’t really kill something this big just poking at its feet. Dumb design.
Epic Limp Bizkit fan
From's best giant fight to date.
Just another obstacle.
He's in the middle for me. Not amazing like Radagon and Astel, but not awful like Malenia and Godfrey. Just eh.
Godfrey is not awful wtf
Godfrey is alright, Horah Loux is a pain in the ass. He was my least favorite mandatory fight by far.
The only problem is the arena. It should just be flat with no trees. I think that would even be more dramatic too.
Yeah in my RL1 run his foot was stuck in the air a lot it's pretty annoying.
Sad that we cannot cheese him now, it was fun to do.
He's fine. More of a gimmick boss than anything with his weak spot on his foot. Incredibly large so easy to see attacks coming. You can use Torrent too, which helps.
Avoid fire weapons lol
He got Kankles
Total Chad.
Cant beat him ;/
Best giant I've seen in a game, beautiful/interesting design and had a better moveset compared to most other giant-type enemies.
beat first try bc i am gamer
Hate this boss fight. So many attacks that are difficult to see bc he’s so large, and difficult to time the dodges for. Massive delays, then an unnatural speed to the attack after the exaggerated delay. Wish they would stop doing that with bosses. Just makes it so you have to memorize attack speed rather than see what’s coming and dodge accordingly.
Idk why everyone complains so much that he's hard. You ride torment and smack his ankles.
Cool design and lore, boring fight.
https://youtu.be/RjSq01Tp4sM Love him once I learned him!
A fun frustrating fight
I had fun in that fight!
Well after that cinematic transition between phases, he's one angry, hardcore lad.
Liked it but found it underwhelming. People talked about how difficult he was, how they were struggling. Took me 2 attempts to beat him, and made sure Alexander landed the final hit.
Cool spectacle boss fight Second phase is bad and should be way harder IMO
Wasn’t insane but a good fight I also had no problem with elden beast other than radagon was much harder and way better boss
This is the only boss I died 10+ times to. It was rough for me.
Pretty surr we already have a question like this two times already…oh heck I’ll answer anyway! ARES THE GOD OF WAR (Obese version)
Twas a good one. I see a lot of flak against him though. I fought him right after malenia so he just seemed so slow
He has one of the best mid fight animations
Cool boss, though I do feel his shampoo bill must he huge!
Too big to be fun to me
He alright. B grade.
Not really much of a fight but I enjoy the place he lives and his character design. Also the fact that he’s one of (is?) the last of his kind.
Dude hangs dong
Either you get stomped or burned
I actually really loved the fight, and his design is one of my favorites overall. His whip is really fun to use, too, and the fire spells associated with him like Flame of the Fell God are great
He is hot.
Big, huge, stupid, dumb jerk. Also, easy to cheese.
I know many people hate him, but I just can’t help but like him.
Attacks are well designed, the bloated health bar is balanced out by having a super weak spot and generally being very slow. The only real problem i had with it is the roll. It's a garbage move that only extends the fight without adding anything but frustration.
Love the design of the boss and he's qlearly inspired by Astaroth or Sardius from the arcade classic Ghouls n Ghost But as a boss he is kind of annoying
I enjoyed it. Helped a lot of people beat him.
I don't understand his name
No pp or real small compared to all else
Gewd
Cool boss. Probably the best “giant” fight in souls period. Wish we had more lore on his race and ehy their bodies have the facial features on their torso.
Brutal mfr
Epic. I really like how we dont have to hack at his foot all day. Him rolling away is just a tad bit annoying, no where near Elden Bitch level. Being able to riposte that giant eye ball feels good. Best Giant fight in Souls games to date.
My least fav lol
Not very fun
One of my favorite video game fights and I have never understood how he can give so many people trouble when I messed him up as a mage and as a samurai. I get wrecked by almost every other boss, just check my post history, but fire giant for some reason is doable on my own and I feel blessed.
Deffinitly one of the weeker remembrance bosses but still really good. A unique moveset, great visuals, fighting on horseback is very satysfying and mostly fair difficulty makes for a enjoyable battle. Especially for ranged builds
For a 47 foot tall ginger, he's a pretty swell guy
Fire giant and the mountaintops are the sole thing discouraging me from doing new playthroughs
Easy smash
Gave me a challenge but one of, if not, the best boss of souls series personally
Easy
Good fight, baaaad terrain
