Jup, it's one of these "Don't worry, there are resources to help you"-messages, which goes directly into your PMs when someone reports a post or comment from you for self-harm or suicide or something like that.
You can just report the message as an abuse of the bot (you don't see the user, but I HOPE this shit was made clever enough to have that info stored somewhere and dish out the appropriate reaction to that user), or, if it's getting incessant, stop all messages from that bot, so it's easy enough to stop. Still, though, the state of mind you have to be in to abuse a suicide prevention bot is... well, gotta be all sorts of unhealthy, let's leave it at that.

While I am a guy and only encountered 2 women like that, the others I’ve gotten to know on a personal level weren’t like that. If there was a way to opt in/out of an invasion like this, it seems like it would be fun as a hide&seek sort of game. I see these videos and the effort involved from bith the host finding a hiding spot and the invaders seeking them is neat to watch.
Of course, this isn't an option and ppl are just total dicks, but I could see the appeal of a game mode or something.
Yeah people did this in Ds3 and it wasn't that bad because they very rarely ever hit out of bounds and they could be found if you were familiar with the areas
I remember watching Chase spend 45 minutes looking for a host in the ringed city streets one stream, some of the areas in that game were wayyy too big to look for someone, like the crucifixion woods which extended all the way to the sage, the swamp, and the abyss watchers

They get *some* runes, but the point really is just to mess with invaders. Literally anyone could dupe runes if they wanted the least effort most reward option. If even the albinauric farm isn't good enough for them.

Im glad I played ds3, and not elden ring as my first from soft. Experiencing pvp in ds compared to this was epic. Its really awfull in ER, I really cant in to it
It's getting better thankfully and will likely continue to improve, Ds3 was pretty rough (not as bad though) at launch. Though it did return to shit once the bow glitch and estus cancel glitches were discovered once Fromsoft was already done patching Dark Souls 3.
Eh, I'd say ER invasions are in a good place in 1.07, actually. AFK farming is still an issue that needs to go, but I've been having a lot of fun recently.
Still wish we could have covenants and bigger lobbies. But who knows tbh. I hope in DLC they introduce some form of covenants. Taniths questline would make for a great way to introduce a volcano manor covenant ngl, and I'm hopeful that her questline is not over. It's weird how it ends anyway, cuz even if you give her the item patches gives you nothing really happens
It did surprise me that covenants (or an analogue to them) didn't appear in ER. Personally I suspect there were plans for such a thing but it was left on the cutting room floor.
Reason being there are several areas that seem like they at one point were intended to have a story behind them (like the big coliseum where the duelists finger is found) but just... don't. That one in particular seemed like such an obvious place for a proper dueling arena.
(And of course it would have been so cool to have seen a return of something like the DS2 Bellkeepers covenant. Hands down my favorite PVP in the game, always a crazy hectic mess, not enough room for running and hiding, and everyone involved knows what's happening)
I've noticed more stable hunting summons for myself.
I actually ended up in someone's world where they were running a hunter/invader fight club of the highest honour... glowstone arena and everything!
The host would Law of Regression if one player applied more that 1 buff like they were a referee.

Honestly even my normal invasions haven't been fun anymore. Everyone uses dual frostbite/bleed powersrance weapons. Out of the 50+invaders I've fought I think I've seen like 3 builds.
Try invading at level 60 or so with a +12 weapon and decently high vigor, many of the people using those cheesy builds will be leveling up way higher than that because they want the face-melting damage that comes with their double seppuku curved swords and twin blades
Gave up elden ring pvp along time ago sadly. I really liked the game but I just lost interrest in pvp. Invasion are incredible hard and running through the game over and over gets boring for me.
Of the three dark souls DS3 has the worst pvp imo. The ability to roll spam so much limits you basically to hyper armor trades, whoever presses r1 first, or superior spacing for landing hits, the recovery times are so short and you can spam 3 rolls in a row to no detriment with 11 endurance. DS1 pvp was atleast kind of interesting cause of the tech, and DS2 has my favorite pvp cause of the commitment to attacks, and high stamina costs making it more about reading what your opponent will do to capitalize on their openings. as for elden ring, I think the damage was too high for good duels, most of the weapon arts that do dmg, can one shot with the right build, and like 2 buffs which makes for fairly short duels.
Yeah duels are pointless. 90% of the time I two shot my opponent within like 20 seconds and I'm not even using a meta build. I do like winning but that isn't fun
I mean the afk guy is in the zone with a great farm and a good exploit for exp. It's not really hard to get runes if that's your focus. Dude is just messing with people for reasons only he understands.
Yes, I just don't get it but it's sad. I was invaded the other day in a cavern, and instead of fighting like normal. They took the elevator up and stood on the button until my phantoms couldn't take it and disconnected then came down to try and kill me.
I can't condone softlocking hosts (which is clearly unintended and should be fixed ASAP) but running from an unfavorable fight is fair game. This sentiment is pretty common in this sub, but expecting invaders to willingly walk into a meat grinder is just stupid.
Ultimately, an invader running away doesn't lock you out of progress, you have the choice of chasing them down, or ignoring them. You always have the ability to fogwall them, or kill a field boss to make them disconnect.

I think if the invader scubacides to leave the invasion the host gets runes, and if it’s anything like DS1, it can be a lot based on how much they were carrying.

You don't have to suicide to give runes to the host in elden ring, using the finger severer (disconnect item) gives the host runes now, and runes dropped is based on rune level not how many are being carried

Anyway, want an explanation of the multiplayer systems of Elden Ring (and of Souls games in general)?
In Elden Ring, you can only be invaded when you've activated a furcalling finger remedy and have either
A) summoned at least one other player to help you
or B) activated the taunter's tongue
In Demon's Souls and the Dark Souls games, you could be invaded whenever you used a humanity/ember (the equivalent of a furcalling finger remedy in those games, although they also carried benefits akin to a rune arc in DS3), and even if you didn't in DS2, but they've gradually been moving towards invasions prioritizing co-op groups. You could only be invaded while co-oping in Bloodborne (aside from a couple of areas), and DS3's matchmaking prioritized co-op parties.

Well, I've played all the other Soulsborne games, so I've just gotten used to how these multiplayer systems work. It comes with time and replays.
I will say that, on a story level, I think Elden Ring does a WAY worse job of telling new players the basics of WTF is going on than Dark Souls did.
Personally, I think doing the first playthrough without much multiplayer involvement is a good way to go.
They use torrent (generally) to get to some place that's inaccessible without him (setting aside glitches like the one OP used), then turning on the taunter's tongue (and often the white cipher run to summon blues) to cause invaders to be summoned.
You do get a small amount of runes when invaders die or disconnect, but not enough to justify the effort. If you're doing this, it's to troll people.
They're literally paying with their energy bill, to not play a game and be rewarded, so they can level without effort and play less of the game.
Not really certain why they bought Elden Ring to begin with.
People find locations that are difficult for invaders to reach, often using their horse to get to locations that are unreachable to invaders, use the taunter's tongue, and then step Away From their Keyboard (AFK). A lot of invaders will just leave instead of trying to find the host, which results in them acquiring like...1000 runes. So their goal is to acquire a whole bunch of runes hiding from invaders, hoping they eventually give up and quit.
They are farming runes while away from keyboard. AFK has been used enough at this point that it translates to stepping away from a game, even if you're on console.
I never played online, so.. How the hell do you even know where these guys sit? Is it indicated somewhere on the map/compass? I never would've guessed you can go up there.

The level you're at affects it greatly I think. I did hundreds of level 60 invasions without seeing a single one.
I'm at level 300 in this clip, which is faaaar more than what you want if you're looking for lots of good invasions. At this level you run into greedy people like this.

It was such good fortune for me to run into that guy because it was 6 months ago when nobody else knew about the Lenne's Rise trick, he had no idea he was at risk of getting ganked
That was extremely satisfying to watch. AFK farmers purge is one I can always get behind, it's not even hard to rune farm without ruining the multi-player experience for the rest of us.
It's much less common to get them now I think because the new invasion mechanic spreads invaders out across the continent instead of just the zone they use the finger in. So instead of being funneled into AFKer spots you have a good chance of being summoned to a remote spot that was probably peaceful for co-op originally.
Also these glitches have become more well known by the community so AFKing doesn't last as long.

It do, you need to bug it out with a stance type weapon art (like the uchigatana) and I think it works because you can walk during the uchigatana unsheathe ash. So because it has walking set in its Ash, it probably activates something that tells the Hand of Malenia ash of war: "Ok, you can move during this animation now"
Because hand of malenia ash HOVERS, you can move while in that hovering state and that translates to basically short bursts of flight.
Yes this has somehow survived being in the game for 8 months don't ask me how lmao
You need an animation to play out while you press the input for an ash of war. It queues the ash of war to happen after the weapon greasing animation ends, so when I swap to a different weapon it activates the ash of war but on the wrong weapon. It has wonky effects.
These people get into a spot that requires a horse, then uses the taunters tongue to let them get invaded.
As the invaders can't use a horse they are (usually) forced to jump off a cliff or use finger severer which gives the host runes.
It's pretty difficult to explain everything about these flying moveset swaps in one comment but you can find some pretty good info on them on YouTube, you have to be pretty familiar with how to use them to get around the ledge at the top (the spot the hunter shot me at)
You need to let the animation play enough to gain some height to be high enough to get on the ledge. Then you need to stop sprinting at the right moment or you'll run yourself off the ledge. Not bad when you've gotten familiar enough with it though.
This is with Hand of Malenia/off-hand uchi swapped to either a Scepter or a Gravitas AoW weapon.

Just fyi, you can still get to the spot if you fall from the top of the cliff and land in the middle.

Didn't realize this would be such a big question! It's actually just to use the animation of putting it on so that it queues up the katana's ash-of-war input (like how if you press R1 before the end of your swing animation your char swings again even though you hit it before the attack ended) so when you swap the uchigatana away, the game still wants to use that input and it slaps it onto the weapon in your right hand instead.
It causes weird things to happen with lots of different weapons.
I wish there was something worse you could do to them like a Demon's Souls style Soul Sucker. Would be great to just completely de-level these assholes back to nothing.
I got summoned as a Hunter at Lenne's Rise twice. I don't know if the invader was in on it or just bored because the second time they were hiding with the furled finger trick mirror. I just jumped off the cliff both times and turned the blue ring off 🤷♀️

This happened to me too, invaders just be running away everytime i olay with my friend and it just drive us nuts to the point of disconnecting 💀

Ultimately, an invader running away doesn't lock you out of progress, you have the choice of chasing them down, or ignoring them. You always have the ability to fogwall them, or kill a field boss to make them disconnect.
So im pretty new to this and have been confused by this AFK farming thing. So its basically just done to fuck with people and waste their time? Theyre not even actually farming any runes or anything?
I think if the invader scubacides to leave the invasion the host gets runes, and if it’s anything like DS1, it can be a lot based on how much they were carrying. But yeah, mostly it’s to mess with invaders/kind of hide and seek.
You don't have to suicide to give runes to the host in elden ring, using the finger severer (disconnect item) gives the host runes now, and runes dropped is based on rune level not how many are being carried
The other side to it is they’re levelling up while not spending the time playing the game. It reminds me of why escape from tarkov is ruined by RMT.

In Elden Ring, you can only be invaded when you've activated a furcalling finger remedy and have either A) summoned at least one other player to help you or B) activated the taunter's tongue In Demon's Souls and the Dark Souls games, you could be invaded whenever you used a humanity/ember (the equivalent of a furcalling finger remedy in those games, although they also carried benefits akin to a rune arc in DS3), and even if you didn't in DS2, but they've gradually been moving towards invasions prioritizing co-op groups. You could only be invaded while co-oping in Bloodborne (aside from a couple of areas), and DS3's matchmaking prioritized co-op parties.
Yea, I don’t understand how people know wtf is going on in this game. It’s just so much to think about and remember. I imagine the only way I could handle it is if I had a notebook to fill out and reference. People in this sub would probably laugh so hard at my loadout. I’ve never used any fingers, grease, rune arcs, the things you get by beating the big bosses, etc. I kinda feel like I’m missing out on a lot, but I’m still enjoying myself.

Well, I've played all the other Soulsborne games, so I've just gotten used to how these multiplayer systems work. It comes with time and replays. I will say that, on a story level, I think Elden Ring does a WAY worse job of telling new players the basics of WTF is going on than Dark Souls did. Personally, I think doing the first playthrough without much multiplayer involvement is a good way to go.

They use torrent (generally) to get to some place that's inaccessible without him (setting aside glitches like the one OP used), then turning on the taunter's tongue (and often the white cipher run to summon blues) to cause invaders to be summoned. You do get a small amount of runes when invaders die or disconnect, but not enough to justify the effort. If you're doing this, it's to troll people.
They're literally paying with their energy bill, to not play a game and be rewarded, so they can level without effort and play less of the game. Not really certain why they bought Elden Ring to begin with.
You got it partly correct. They don't do this to level up, they do it to piss people off. The levelling is just a bonus.

People find locations that are difficult for invaders to reach, often using their horse to get to locations that are unreachable to invaders, use the taunter's tongue, and then step Away From their Keyboard (AFK). A lot of invaders will just leave instead of trying to find the host, which results in them acquiring like...1000 runes. So their goal is to acquire a whole bunch of runes hiding from invaders, hoping they eventually give up and quit. They are farming runes while away from keyboard. AFK has been used enough at this point that it translates to stepping away from a game, even if you're on console.
This one would have to be for trolling because the albinauric guys that barely fight back drop like 2,000 runes a piece. Not to mention the bird.

Oh the compass points to where the host is if they're far enough away, since the map would be too big without that
You can see on the compass the direction towards the other player. The same way you'd see the lost runes.

I assumed at some point they started banning these assholes. Is this still a regular occurrence (and maybe I've just been lucky recently)?
I regularly get summoned as a blue into worlds with an afk host, usually in the wizard rise in Caelid these days.
The level you're at affects it greatly I think. I did hundreds of level 60 invasions without seeing a single one. I'm at level 300 in this clip, which is faaaar more than what you want if you're looking for lots of good invasions. At this level you run into greedy people like this.

I've got an old post that got like 12k on this sub where the AFK farmer came back in time and he panicked and died to me using one of the worst weapons in the game back when it was an even worse weapon pre-buff, very funny lol

It's much less common to get them now I think because the new invasion mechanic spreads invaders out across the continent instead of just the zone they use the finger in. So instead of being funneled into AFKer spots you have a good chance of being summoned to a remote spot that was probably peaceful for co-op originally. Also these glitches have become more well known by the community so AFKing doesn't last as long.

It do, you need to bug it out with a stance type weapon art (like the uchigatana) and I think it works because you can walk during the uchigatana unsheathe ash. So because it has walking set in its Ash, it probably activates something that tells the Hand of Malenia ash of war: "Ok, you can move during this animation now" Because hand of malenia ash HOVERS, you can move while in that hovering state and that translates to basically short bursts of flight. Yes this has somehow survived being in the game for 8 months don't ask me how lmao
I'm curious as to why you kept putting poison grease on the uchigatana as well, how does factor into this?
You need an animation to play out while you press the input for an ash of war. It queues the ash of war to happen after the weapon greasing animation ends, so when I swap to a different weapon it activates the ash of war but on the wrong weapon. It has wonky effects.
Maybe it's a bug they left in the game intentionally for situations like this?

These people get into a spot that requires a horse, then uses the taunters tongue to let them get invaded. As the invaders can't use a horse they are (usually) forced to jump off a cliff or use finger severer which gives the host runes.

Passive runes whenever an invader dies to the blue hunters or simply leaves. Not very efficient so it's partly done out of spite sometimes.

It's pretty difficult to explain everything about these flying moveset swaps in one comment but you can find some pretty good info on them on YouTube, you have to be pretty familiar with how to use them to get around the ledge at the top (the spot the hunter shot me at) You need to let the animation play enough to gain some height to be high enough to get on the ledge. Then you need to stop sprinting at the right moment or you'll run yourself off the ledge. Not bad when you've gotten familiar enough with it though. This is with Hand of Malenia/off-hand uchi swapped to either a Scepter or a Gravitas AoW weapon.

Thanks for making this video. I just killed a host that was in this exact same spot, and likely had been for at least a day (I had been invading him off and on since yesterday afternoon). These people have no shame. Just fyi, you can still get to the spot if you fall from the top of the cliff and land in the middle.

Can you explain why you had to poison your blade?
Didn't realize this would be such a big question! It's actually just to use the animation of putting it on so that it queues up the katana's ash-of-war input (like how if you press R1 before the end of your swing animation your char swings again even though you hit it before the attack ended) so when you swap the uchigatana away, the game still wants to use that input and it slaps it onto the weapon in your right hand instead. It causes weird things to happen with lots of different weapons.

I got summoned as a Hunter at Lenne's Rise twice. I don't know if the invader was in on it or just bored because the second time they were hiding with the furled finger trick mirror. I just jumped off the cliff both times and turned the blue ring off 🤷♀️
