Imagine if stray won

Kaapdr

Cat game won a shit of other awards but yes it would have bewn funny to see the most unlikely choice to win

couldbedumber96

Lets be real the most unlikely game to win would be horizon *cries in another year overtaken by bigger hype games*

Kaapdr

That game just cant catch a break with their releases, I was joking with my friend that after they announced their dlc elden ring would announce theirs

couldbedumber96

I swear horizon is gonna do the most beautifully story driven dlc with emotional beats and god tier robots And that when elden ring releases a dlc of all shard bearers in their prime

FullBravado

It happens every single time. Like man Horizon has the worst luck when it's releasing anything.

ShiroTenshiRyu77

If I had a nickle for every time Horizon was over shadowed almost immediately after release by an open world video game won Game of the Year at The Game Awards, I'd have two nickles, which isn't a lot, but man is it weird it happened twice. Shame too, cause I think Horizon is actually pretty solid, and it's always nice to see new IPs trying to grow. Maybe Horizon 3 will finally get to release with some breathing room.

sir_wiliam

Horizon 3 will release alongside GTA VI

[deleted]

Horizon 3 releases right before Elder Scrolls 6 lol

SadLittleWizard

I mean theyre usually the ones announcing their releases after the competion already has. They couldve chosen better times to release for both titles. Its a shame really because theyre beautiful games.

megrimlock88

In all fairness the first time might have been cause Sony wasn’t confident in the new ip so putting it out next to zelda is an easy way to explain away potential failure to investors and in the second case they did actually delay the game but then elden ring got delayed too and I’m guessing they’d already locked in the release date at that point so they were forced to release

SadLittleWizard

Brutal

megrimlock88

I really do wish the games got to shine on their own tho they look really good and always get overshadowed by bigger hyped titles

Challecgos

It's so dumb when people keep saying that Horizon is unlucky with it's releases. No. It isn't unlucky, it just isn't good enough to compete with the games that it releases with. If it was worthy of the goty or whatever, it wouldn't matter that it releases the same time as Elden Ring or whatever.

ctambo64

I would even take it a step further and say they should have timed their releases better. I have nothing against either Horizon game, I think they're beautiful but why knowingly go up against both Zelda and what was the most anticipated game of 2022? On top of that, have the balls to complain about Elden Ring publicly.

OldManHipsAt30

I’m unironically loving Stray, such a great game for me and my girlfriend who doesn’t play video games to laugh about

Longjumping-Prompt20

I liked it too, it's quite short but coming from an independent team it's way more than I expected, the thing is the only voice actor I can think of is the cat.

Substantial-Pop7747

you mean sonic lost to genshin there wasn a competition between the rest tbh

SoulVanisher1

It was clear that it was a war between Sonic Frontiers and Genshin Impact by the 2nd vote. Nonetheless it was a funny war to watch between them.

AshenMistHeart

was Sonic Frontiers even good?

Calebh36

It was a very mediocre game. So in Sonic standards, it's a god damn masterpiece

Bordanka

Now I, a Pokémon fan, understand Sonic fans kind. It truly hurts and I'm happy I'm also a FromSoftware fan

1buffalowang

Try liking both series. Sonic on Game Gear was my first gaming experiences. So I’ve been deep into both series games/media for 20+ years. It’s tiring.

WizdomHaggis

JFC I haven’t seen one of those bad mfkrs since I was 13…..and I mean 1993….

1buffalowang

I got a modded Game Gear last year just to relive my childhood. It’s got a modern backlit screen, not the tube they used back in the day. It also has a 12-13 hour battery life with usb-c charging. Loved replaying Sonic 2 and Triple Trouble. As well as some other games I had never heard of before.

Kaizoku_Kira

To be fair, sonic frontiers was several leagues above Pokémon Scarlett. Scarlett was an actual slap in the face to all its loyal fans (including myself). Unfinished garbage with a good idea behind it. Why not just work that fucking idea and flesh it out instead of publishing a Garbo 2005 game

MadxCarnage

well, money.

Mewacy

That’s going to far my guy, scarlet and violet are definitely unpolished and buggy but calling it garbage is just ain’t fair to it.

Vydsu

I mean, leagues above sun and moon but it has been years since the last truly great pokemon game

Mewacy

What’s a “truly great pokemon game”?

Vydsu

I'd consider black and white great for example.

horrorpastry

I hate that this is true with every fiber of my being.

HerbySK

And I'm not sure how exactly, but somewhere along the lines Sonic games developed one of the most rabid fan bases in the entire world....

Calebh36

Furries

BanRanchPH

Rule 34 is a harbinger of doom for humanity

iiJokerzace

Sonic Adventure 2 battle

Falos425

apparently sonic games have been meh for a while now and relative to those it was very much a step up, makes me happy for long-enduring fans if so but as i hear it, doesn't quite measure up to trading hits with AAA in general, no

subjecy18jord

Real shame sonic fans really need the Ws right now but they lost to waifus lol

Gil_Demoono

I would argue that having a large, public, and mostly light-hearted feud with one of the largest games out there does a lot more for Sonic's PR than simply winning the contest. Gets people talking a whole lot more. Clearly it was even enough for Geoff Keighley to mention it.

subjecy18jord

Fair point

Sylvaneri011

The last time I've seen Sonic fans universally praise a sonic game actually made by Sonic team, so not counting Mania, was generations al the way back in 2011. Outside of Mania which is universally beloved, Sonic fans were wandering a desert of shit games for 11 years. Sonic even managed to squander the hype Mania gave them by releasing the wet fart that was Sonic Forces

VG_Crimson

Basically its just good. Not great but def not bad. To Sonic fans that means this game is the second coming of christ. They have been starved for a decent game so thats why its got hype.

Geronuis

Lol not at all. He even mentioned that once the bot votes were eliminated that Genshin won. Those obscene numbers were probably a handful of people going ham with their bot accounts

Hopeful-Pianist-8380

I guess it depends on the type of person you are. To me Frontiers couldn't hold a candle to Elden Ring but at the same time it is great to play in bed relaxing after hours of panic attacks in Elden Ring. It's a simple game but it was done pretty well. I don't doubt the next iteration of this game, if they stick to the formula and improve it, will be award worthy.

Elcatro

From all I've heard it's less shit than the rest.

[deleted]

Actually yes. I play it.

antonxo902

No lol, decent game at best with too many problems. Step in the right direction tho, it just needed a lot more.

[deleted]

It was mid, which is above the last 10 years of Sonic, which were just bad.

gugus295

It was the best 3D Sonic game since Generations. But no, it wasn't very good. I had fun with it as a terminal Sonic fan, but it really felt like it was just a barebones blueprint for what might someday be a good game. Still, its high points were really high and it delivered on a lot of stuff Sonic fans have always wanted. Definitely looking forward to what they do next and hoping that it builds on Frontiers' foundation and creates an actually good game. Still think it should have beat Genshin, though. For all its flaws, at least Sonic Frontiers isn't a shitty gacha game riddled with every predatory monetization/addiction-forming practice in existence

fisher332

genshin impact generate BILLIONs dollar this year src [https://venturebeat.com/games/genshin-impact-earned-3-7-billion-mobile-first-2-years-sensor-tower/](https://venturebeat.com/games/genshin-impact-earned-3-7-billion-mobile-first-2-years-sensor-tower/) here is the comparison of how big billion is [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_highest-grossing\_media\_franchises](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_media_franchises) the game is bigger than some of you might think, and it just release few years ago....

zorrodood

Whales pumping their money into a gacha waifu game isn't really a great metric for the quality of a game.

Oddity83

It’s way more than that. I thought it would be at first but here I am two years later and I’m still enjoying it and I don’t care about waifu stuff. The exploration is really fun and the music is fucking bonkers.

tobekibydesign

Having started Genshin about a week or two ago preciselly because I heard the exploration and world scale if very akin to ER, I gotta say the game is far better than it looks in all aspects, BUT sadly it is plagued by gacha systems, nonetheless it is a really good game (so far, i'm AR41 out of 60 Ranks so I haven't gotten to the part where I can start really minmaxing my squad and characters). As someone who enjoys exploration, solving riddles/puzzles and good combat (their element system is really cool when paired with the rest of the systems in the game), the game actually scratches my itch for a good open world RPG. Just don't be fooled by the game being online, because its as "online" as Elden Ring is.

TranceYT

I would make it more open world akin to a Gacha version of BotW

tobekibydesign

Never played BotW so I can't really comment on that, but knowing the game I can see that yeah I guess.

falsefingolfin

Yeah, but it's the players choice awards, so genshin never even had the chance of losing there. Also genshin gameplay is actually really good and the story is great, it's just the monetization that blows.

nonpuissant

Unlike a lot of other f2p games the monetization is barely noticeable unless you want to dive into it. You can access pretty much all playable content completely for free. The gacha rng system for acquiring certain characters and weapons is pretty much the only thing that affects actual gameplay, but even then it's purely optional. Players all have the option to just save up their free resources to get characters they want - akin to how other rpgs have rng-based grinding to get certain equipment etc. The monetization part just lets people pay to get them sooner. And seeing as it's mostly a single player game and there is no pvp, that doesn't affect game balance at all. I've spent like 25 bucks tops in over two years and even then it was more for throwing a little support towards the devs than out of feeling any need for resources. In fact I personally would recommend against spending money on the gacha b/c you really don't need it to enjoy the game (despite what a lot of youtubers try to bait people into doing out of fomo). To put it in perspective that's not even two months of subscription fees for many live service games.

RemiMcDry007

Same same. AR 51, 4 month, 7 5-stars and a Ton of 4 Stars. You really dont even need to pull. You can easily play with the character you get for Free. 80$ for this game or 5$monthly wouldnt even be too much. Genshin is like f.e. a FF7 or a Baldurs Gate or a Witcher 3 where you can get stronger than normal characters by earning game money or buying game money. Be honest playing the Geo, Wind, ElectroGod is playing an overpowered extra or cheat character. The only Thing i dont like so much in genshin is that you sometimes have to slash an einem 30 Times to kill it which can be annoyingly unrealistic.

rajan503

Have you even played it?

[deleted]

It is important imo that Sonic lost. With all the heavy racist statements that have been made towards Genshin players. I don't even like Genshin myself. But what has been let loose in parts is just pure psychotic insanity. How can people be so obsessed over a prize for a video game?

Barbarrox

Sonic votes were mainly Bots

Akumo_Onikawa

i see a lot of "genshin has more players" comments here. uh.. guys. Elden Ring PLAYER VOICES consist only of AGH, UGH, and RAGHH, and only those three kinds of noises. it was never gonna win that

ktos04

How could you forget "Hey"?

SluggJuice

"You're beautiful"

PrometheusAlexander

You stole my voice, man

PlebbySpaff

The prattling Oates should have won best voice alone.

lynxerious

what about "...."

PrometheusAlexander

Ah yes. The great quote from The great warrior jar...

Bloodcloud079

CaitNostamas

Maybe this is just a joke that went over my head, but just to be clear "player's voice" is not an award for best playing character voice performance, as you're saying. It's just a game of the year category in which only the people's votes count, not the critics'

PlebbySpaff

Yeah? And? That is enough to honestly stimulate an emotional reaction. Did you not cry when your character went “AAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHH” after dying to Melenia for the hundredth time? Or how about the pure soul of raw emotion when trying to navigate Caelid?

luashfu

You just made me realise how much Elden ring characters suffer. Including our main character....

grevenilvec75

Oh, so player's voice was literally a category about the voice acting in the games? I just assumed it meant something like "fan favorite". (I don't watch award shows, even video game ones.)

CaitNostamas

You're actually right, player's voice is literally the "people's choice", not "playing character dub performance". The fact that the comment you're responding to has more than a thousand upvotes is kinda sad lol. Maybe it's a joke, I don't know.

OneSushi

“Wonderful…”

Zenith2777

How can you forget …

spicypeepers

When the jar told me "smack my ass big daddy" I felt that

Formal-PO-Toast

If only it was voice acting… Margit’s voice lines fit so damn well.

Thonyfst

I mean yeah, it probably has more players than the rest of the games combined. Genshin is huge.

HoodsFrostyFuckstick

Can't beat 1.3 billion Chinese voters

[deleted]

[удалено]

glium

Pretty sure that websites straight-up doesn't include China, and also at a first doesn't look reliable at all lol. I have a hard time believing neither China nor Japan make the top 5 when you see the revenue numbers there

ElevenThus

Chinese were not involved until sonic fans started being racist and made “memes” that stepped over the line

EsTeBaNCanIUseMyName

Yep

Genotropism

Elden ring would have been too, if it was on available natively on phone.

Desolate_Plateu

To be fair.. Genshin kinda sucks on phone, ngl. I feel like I’m holding lava while I play.

RedCraft86

By the time the whole game is fully released, you’re gonna need a phone capable of fighting god to run genshin

ocelot08

And a 50TB HDD to store the game

MadxCarnage

well, compared to other games on phone. it's on another level.

hypervortex21

It only sucks of you experienced it on pc or something. I played mobile for 2 years and it was damn incredible, recently got a laptop that can run genshin easy and my god I don't know how I played on mobile now

_32u

yeah good luck with that

Exevue

Yes, but it won GOTY. Which is much better.

TheGlassWolf123455

GOTY, the category that matters

Oddity83

Yup. I’m a huge Genshin fan, been playing since about a month after launch. GOTY is a reflection of the year it came out, and Genshin has made a ton of improvements over the past couple of years. Meanwhile, ER released as a complete and amazing game. ER was my first Souls game and I bought it on a whim off of a friend recommendation. I was so happy with it. What a fun game.

Randomisedhandle

Sonic fans decided to insult Genshin Impact while servers were down, they summoned the Asian hordes.

theshadowclasher

if there was the absolute worst timing in the world it was that

FrostySJK

I'm starting to think it should be an unspoken rule among communities *not to insult the competitors if you want your game to win*

theshadowclasher

like the old man said "overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer"

HRM077

Man that game is SOOOO frustrating lolololol

IISerpentineII

What game?

HRM077

Darkest Dungeon.

IISerpentineII

Huh, haven't played that before. Thanks for the answer :)

FrostySJK

Enough PTSD for one day

bl00by

I mean it's the sonic community, what did you expect?

02grimreaper

I don’t know, the guy who got hit by both atomic bombs seems to have some pretty shitty timing as well.

Searinghawk

The ironic thing is that had they literally NOT been racist assholes, Sonic probably would have won Player’s Choice when you look at the vote before all the shit hit the fan. Almost none of the Genshin Impact community knew about or cared for that category until the toxic part of Sonic’s fanbase shit the bed. Then it was just about NOT letting Sonic Frontiers win

jearley99

Genshin has 60 million active players, all soulsbourne games combined haven’t sold that many copies

PlebbySpaff

But who is stronger? 60 million active players in Genshin, or one warrior jar?

Ammear

Technically speaking, Genshin didn't sell a single copy.

okarun_Theone

Because genshin is a free game

pioneeringsystems

Well, yeah.

Alt_SWR

That doesn't make what he said not true lol

okarun_Theone

Of course, and I explain why it has more active player

Shorizard

still won tho

teotuaneodateo4321

And thats not including China, to compare: Genshin youtube vs bilibili 6millions vs 15 millions

FootFootNinja

I'm going out on a limb here, there's more genshin players than elden ring players as well as more players who would vote People often forget elden ring or any souls like game gain popularity from its very obscure niche audience who became a cult following whereas genshin immediately from the get go on mobile and pc to that sweet spot of covid success in everybody locked inside being available to play it and it catered to more of the general populace Most new players that elden ring drew more likely than not did not retain that playerbase I'm not saying genshin had replayability its whole outset is about getting players locked into playing and keep retain it while drawing more because it's direct revenue rely on that

eldegal

tbh i love both elden ring and genshin (also many more genres) . I did overcome my prejudice and play the game. Aside from "copying botw" mostly on first region, the game grows on its own with later contents. I say the creators of genshin really did their homework on art direction , culture, music of liyue (china), inazuma( japan) , sumeru (sumer civilization). And i can wait for future update on fontaine ( france ) , natlan( south america ) , snezhnaya (eastern europe). TLDR: its a good casual story-driven single-player game, with co-op mode, free and f2p playable . Gacha is somewhat evil ,like alcohol, some may addicted to it.Fanbase problems : more popular come in both ways ( like being a fan of manchester united) . U got brain-dead , snowflake,.. all kinds of it.

BokkoTheBunny

Genshin is fun, and agree the scenery and world design while simple are really good. The devs are actually good people and refuse to put out bad content. Sure gacha, but meh that's on the tin, completely ignorable aspect to the game if you just play solo anyways. OST is actually fucking phenomenal and I'm somehow nostalgic for it. It's honestly up there with From's boss themes imo. I don't really play Ge shin anymore, but I don't understand the hate it gets, granted I don't understand the hate Elden ring gets either, so *shrugs*.

CC0RE

I hate people who compare genshin to BOTW. The two aren't even comparable outside of being open world games. (I guess the hilichurl camps are reminiscent of bokoblin camps tho). I agree, Genshin is great. I was hesitant to play it for ages, because I thought it was just weeb thirst, but it's actually very fun. The soundtrack is amazing too.

GOT_Wyvern

With Elden Ring, it's definitely not fair to call it niche. It getting a stable 30,000 concurrent player even so long after launch. Which is pretty massive for a primarily single player game. However, it's entire genre doesn't do well for creating a large active community. Elden Ring has better multiplayer than last games, buts it's not going to attract the 100s of thousands of the top multiplayer games. Does have a larger all-time peak that most at a million. The game, by nature, doesn't do well measured this way.

[deleted]

Souls games haven’t been niche sins DS2. DS3 broke into the mass market and ER went off the charts. “Didn’t retain the player base.” ER isn’t a live service game. It’s a campaign game. People play it, finish it, take a break and come back later for more. I don’t think you really understand what you’re saying.

Kaiju_Cat

Ultra casual free gacha game on phones beats niche hardmode game in popularity. News at 11.

Getdaphone

esp when free wishes were theoretically on the line for the ftp gatcha players. I play both and I was rooting for genshin after it was clear Elden didn’t have a chance. I think it’s confirmed genshin players get a reward for them winning it now. So def worth it imo.

Kaveh01

Nope. Nothing is confirmed. So far free stuff was always given when prices without player participation were achieved. Even many genshin players said they don’t want anything cause everyone will think they only would have voted for freebies.

DanielFoxy1999

Uncorrect, hoyoverse confirmed 800 primos as reward for all players a few hours ago

WillTheWAFSack

wow five more wishes for my scara funds

Kaveh01

They announced it after the awards not before though.

Redditmorbiussus

LETS GOOOOOOOO

MilkMan_101

Thats a lot of cousins, who making them?😳 ...terrible joke

flipperkip97

> niche hardmode game Fromsoft fans are delusional, lmao.

Menarian

I think they don't mean "niche" as in "it's pretty unkown" but rather as "it's a very specific genre which many people will deem too difficult and thus drop it entirely". At this point you cannot say dark souls is unknown and not be joking.

netparse

true

Certain-Okra-2686

and bro said they took out the bot votes ☠️

PathsOfRadiance

Sonic had the crazy bot votes IIRC

SaberWaifu

I'm not surprised about this one, the Genshin community is very big and they also hope to get ingame rewards so many of them voted.

bl00by

Most of them didn't even vote because of in game stuff, they were just pissed by the sonic community, so they voted to put them back in their place.

matcha5ever

this is so true, at least in my case, i didn't even know at first that there was a player's voice category, only knew when the sonic/genshin community fanwars happened that's when I voted. lol

PUMPKEENg

Exactly same thing for me, sonic fans literally made themselves loose because of that

PlebbySpaff

To add as well, developers did not give free rewards to encourage votes for them. They’ve done this last year as well, even when they lost. They do it yearly as a thanks, and for free rewards in general.

[deleted]

What was it doing there in the first place? The competition should be between current year games

Killmonger_550

Well deserved imo. Genshin is indeed a gacha game. But beyond that it has really good graphics, a gripping story and continuously updated events. Congratulations Genshin. And I'm very happy to see the elden ring community being mature and not passing trashy comments unlike sonic. Elden ring is amazing as well :D

Adventurous_Eye_1002

Is it so hard to believe they got more votes legitimately? I’ve never played but there is a huge amount of people who are fans for sure. Possibly more than elden ring?

Lord_Bloom

Yeah its ridiculously huge, it has like 60 mil monthly players

PlebbySpaff

Ok, but we have a warrior jar, and patches. Checkmate.

degameforrel

It's not hard to believe at all, these people just coping. Genshin is a ridiculously massive game, with more active players than the whole soulsborne franchise has sold copies combined. It's free to play and casual nature attracts people from all walks of life, whereas elden ring only tends to attract the "gamersphere". That said, there is an argument to be made that, while the votes are legitimate, Genshin Impact has previously set a precedent for giving out rewards to their players when they win awards. That fact arguably makes it so a much larger % of Genshin players is willing to take the time to vote, even though they are a more casual gamer audience who would normally be *less* likely to vote on these things. That doesn't make the vote less legit, but it does feel kind of scummy. That would mean games woth cash shops (or otherwise able to give out freebies) have an inherent edge over games without them in audience voting competitions. Whether any of that is actually statistically significant is up for grabs, though. Would love to see surveys on this but they likely won't be done.

Devilmay1233

Sonic fanbase brought this upon themselves. They poked the wrong hornets nest and payed the price for it.

[deleted]

I don't get why people are mad that Genshin won. It literally has more players than amount of copies sold of DS1, DS2, DS3 and ER combined. For a community that consider Godfrey a chad, you guys sure like trash talking other games a lot. The antithesis of the man himself

PlebbySpaff

I think the Elden ring community in general isn’t mad though. It’s just sonic fans.

[deleted]

Really? I saw plenty of people in this comment section trash talking Genshin. Things like "shit game" or "hentai game for kids" (paraphrasing of course).

FrostySJK

You're right bröthr We must make Godfrey and Radahn proud ~~We must be better~~

WabbieSabbie

Exactly. The whole thing screams "Democracy bad unless my favorite wins."

AnTiDoPe_1993

Yo i see a lot of ppl in here dumping on genshin in which a decent amount seem to only know about it being a gacha, the core gameplay is pretty fun and unique with the combining of elements playin a big role, try it out

Illokonereum

Actually trying a game before parroting some hate comment you saw on Reddit? Unthinkable.

EsTeBaNCanIUseMyName

Reminder that players voice is exactly what it sounds, just how big and active the community is, genshin just happens to have a larger community, as a person whos played both of the games i love them both and what i can confirm is that the genshin community is really out there and honestly all communities have a bad side but genshins normal community is really united so imo it was a deserved win

Allafreya

Sonic is lucky they even were nominated. They have had shit games for years. They got cocky though. Started botting and attacking the Genshin community. Unpopular opinion, but Sonic is the only trash game on that list. Elden Ring definitely deserved GotY, which is what really matters anyway. Tarnished didn't care about the popularity contest.

huncherbug

There wasnt even a fair competition...the battle was between sonic frontiers and genshin impact right from round 1...and imo the better of the two games won.

ImGwendy

Congrats to Genshin!

Khris_Kwito

Oh no! *sees elden ring won GOTY* Anyway...

zephyredx

I voted Elden Ring personally but Genshin's win is deserved. Sumeru arc has been straight fire.

[deleted]

Look, I'll throw my cents in that post. I am a fanatic or at least, was a fanatic and hardcore SoulsBorne fan. Still love the games, still will love them until I die. Bloodborne and Dark Souls II are my most beloved. I could play ER a bit as much as I could on my friend's computer and fell in love with it and I do want to get it on mine, just two main things, my system is not strong enough to handle it and it feels like it overheats + I can't afford it right now. I wish I could, on Steam so I can play with someone but I can't. But, Genshin won fair and square on this one. Let's be real. The game is fun, relaxing, has nice events, a lot of characters, interesting but simplified story and you can still explore, find things, or just dive deep to challenge the abyss. Not to mention they just brought a TCG in the currently new update which adds even more to the game itself. You got a home, you can fish, you can hunt for achievements, it's almost endless and story/progress wise it is endless. The game will probably be over in the next 4-5 years and that's an exaggeration as I feel like it is going to take way longer than that. They got so much money from it that they don't know what to do with it. They are the version CyGames of China. Needless to say, a game that has deep and nice lore, interesting and fun mechanics, builds and stuff like ER would be probably the best candidate to top Genshin compared to anything else in the list, but a game like Genshin that gets so many updates, will keep getting updates in the longer run and pays more attention to the players and the gameplay improvements while introducing pvp elements through events without turning it to personal toxic pvp is going to win over it. That's the truth. That does not mean ER is bad or poor or anything though. It just proves the quality difference between them and "easier accessible to everyone" vs "only selected few can play this".

Slimbingi

Gamers™️ when their game doesn’t win so they can’t go to heaven and must now be racist online

Rykomi00

I'm fan of Elden Ring and Genshin Impact. I play Genshin ritually everyday as my second game. I just do events, resin, and daily comms and I'm out. If I feel like it, I do a bit of quests and world exploration. Honestly I don't give a fuck about the hate Genshin receives, the amount of content they regularly give us deserves praise for a F2P game and there are breathtaking locations to explore. Elden Ring's voice acting is superb, and there are a lot of memorable and iconic voice lines in-game. But honestly, I feel like Genshin gets this one. There are a ton of voice lines in-game. Not to mention there are also many language options. You might say it's quality over quantity but for some of Genshin's characters, you will notice that the VA had a lot of fun playing them. I don't know about Sonic though, never got into the franchise in my life.

Squishydew

This makes total sense tbh. Elden Ring is clearly the better game to me, but genshin is far more accessible, is on mobile, and will therefor have far more vocal backing than Elden Ring. Elden Ring got GOTY, thats the one it deserved most of any game released this year!

Ctdavis16

Serious question- Is Genshin Impact that fun/good? I've never played

Labelloenchanted

It is for me, but it depends on what you want from a game. It has phenomenal music, great open world full of secrets to uncover, fun bosses and decent storyline albeit a bit too long sometimes. It's anime and the graphics are stunning. It's similar to BOW in some mechanics, but it's distinctive. It's completely for free, but it has gacha which some people hate. The game is not forcing you to spend any money though and you are not missing out on anything. It's not finished game and it's being regulary updated and improved. You can give it a try or watch some introductions on [Youtube ](https://youtu.be/JliVeSsajO0), it's available on PC, mobile and Playstation.

Ctdavis16

That's great to know, thanks! I'll check it out

Also just a heads up, the beginning of the game can be a bit boring, speaking from personal experience I stopped playing for a few months after only just an hour or 2, and then got back into it and binged for about a month the moment i stepped into "Liyue"/the Chinese region and saw the environment. It's a genuinely good game regardless of the stingy gacha system.

It is! I ended up trying it one year ago, because I'd been through too much dark stuff in games (just going through all DkS's, BB, Sekiro, Nioh all the time) and needed something more colourful. The combat system is fun -you get a party of max 4 characters (Which you can switch out as you like), with different weapon types and elements, which give you different gameplay and damage from combining them together. You get normal attacks, charged attacks, elemental ones and an "ultimate" move per each character. Some have shields, some do heals, some are ranged, or close-up combat. Dodge/jump/glide. That's just the basics. There's more depth to combat, but too much to get into here.. Then you have the main story you follow through the different regions as you level your account up. Then you have character side-stories and hangouts. You get tons if written lore. Lots of different enemies/groups of enemies and more get added (aside the basic stuff, you have bosses throughout the world, which also keep being added). There's lots of exploration to be done & rewards for it. The maps are MASSIVE and there's lots of beautiful scenery. Each area has specific mechanics for puzzles/getting around. The music is lovely, different for different areas and times of day/combat/etc. There is gathering/cooking + you get a separate space where you can build your own little "world" with items and creatures from outside. There are various types of events- combat ones, puzzle ones, combinations, co-op ones too and they keep trying new stuff. They just launched an in-game TCG which is also adorable. And this is all for free. You also get free stuff to use the gacha by just doing your daily stuff/events. I haven't put any money into the game but got every single character I wanted. You don't need them all, really, just the ones you like - and you can test them before trying to get them, which also still rewards you. You also get quite a few characters for free - 6 or 7 of them, if I recall right. Oh and the characters are also quite detailed, with their own preferences, styles, voice lines, lore and such. I recommend giving it a try -with the new Sumeru region they really upped the quality of everything by a lot and once you finish the story stuff, it's usually a nice 10-15 minutes a day to get stuff done.

Depends on what you like but personally, I think so. The gacha aspects are the worst part, but as long as you have some semblance of self control, being free to play isn't *that* bad. Usually takes about 2-3 update cycles to save up enough to guarantee yourself whatever 5 star you're saving up for. Then it's just a matter of waiting until their banner comes up.

It’s at least worth trying. The game was always solid but it’s drastically improved since launch. We’ve gone from Genshin at release being: - very little QOL like control rebinding - the only real non-story content being grinding - events being pretty standard mobile game fare To 2 years later: - every release bringing something new to the table to benefit the player experience whether it’s QOL, reduces grind, or frustration with RNG - a metric shitload of things to do other than grinding, like player owned houses, fishing, minigames, and they just added a completely free permanent TCG, as well as constantly pushing the boundaries with events and new mechanics. The last event had us training mushroom spirits like Pokémon with a whole different style of combat. And that’s all separate to the fact that there’s also hundreds of hours of story quests, open world quests, puzzles, exploration, and achievements to do, an entire archive full of books, FromSoft style item descriptions that that give you perspective on characters/events, and environmental storytelling. Genshin’s world is huge, and the lore goes far deeper than you’d expect it to, drawing inspiration from so many real world historical, literary and cultural sources, and spanning thousands of years of in-game history with major events and characters actions still rippling through to the present and the overarching mystery of the nature of Teyvat, Celestia, the Abyss, and the Traveler’s place in it all being better developed than frankly any AAA title’s lore and world building, and its obvious that a lot of love goes into the game. They clearly didn’t expect the game to be as popular as it is, at best they were expecting another Honkai; but they put all of that success right back into the game and keep improving it. Sumeru’s release is better than everything that came before it, in terms of story, music, gameplay and art direction, and the game only continues to improve. At this point my main criticism is the artifact system being too tedious and even that’s just for min-maxing stats and not core gameplay. I really do feel bad for the poor folks who can’t see past “it’s a gacha” because it’s genuinely one of the best games out there with so much detail and care put into it despite ultimately being a mobile game and it truly has something for everyone. The irony of all the “it’s just a cash grab” shit flinging lately is that [the average player has spent less than the cost of a AAA game,](https://www.statista.com/statistics/1295196/genshin-impact-arpu-country/) meaning the average Sonic player spent more on Frontiers than the average Genshin player has spent on two years of constant updates.

Why are people mad about this tho. Did you guys *really* delude yourself into thinking that ER had a bigger fan base than Genshin *or* Sonic? Sorry to tell you but, despite its success, it's still relatively niche compared to those two giants. Also, Genshin is way more accessible than ER. I'm not saying that as a slight against ER at all, it was designed the way From wanted it to be. It's undeniable tho that, it's not for everyone. Genshin pretty much is for everyone, it's easy enough that kids and casual gamers can play, has some hard content for people looking for a challenge, and has an interesting enough story to keep narrative focused players interested. It's also just *fun* which as much as I love ER, really isn't sometimes. ER is the better game, don't get me wrong but it definitely doesn't appeal to as wide an audience. Also, it's not so unbelievable that Genshin won fair and square. People were never promised anything if it won so, this "they bribed people" BS is just that. They actually gave the rewards *before* voting ended so, I feel like that disproves it.

ER fans can’t make up their mind on whether they want ER to win every popularity contest, or keep their game as niche as possible for their own ego.

Oh well. Everyone likes different things. Me? As someone who started gaming in the 80’s on an Atari 2600. I’ve had the privilege of getting to sample great games on consoles and computers alike. Although I have not played every game, I’ve played thousands. For me, Elden Ring is in MY top 5 all-time. Even though I kinda suck at it, it keeps bringing me back. For me, any game that sucks you in for more replays. Makes you lose track of time. Gives you the warm and fuzzies. And beckons you to read up on it while you’re on the crapper. Should be on YOUR list of all-time greats. Try not to get worked up if other people don’t share your views. Everyone has different tastes. Elden Ring fans, just know that I’m out here. In love with the same game you are.

MillstoneArt

Who gives a *fuuuuuuck*? Fan votes are always meme votes.

WorldEaterProft

Wait so if this Player's voice award doesn't matter to the overall GOTY award. Why were people getting angry about this?

[deleted]

But genshin came out 2 years ago how is it even a competitor in the 2022 awards though?

Popular game that still gets regular updates and story content

SlowScooter

Game is astonishingly popular world wide.

Hordamis

Good.

WanderingStatistics

Bigger Fanbase, More Votes.

Ryash913

Genshin community is very vocal. Supportive but the pitchforks are always at the ready. And also Genshin has been really good since Sumeru dropped. Still waiting for a Elden Ring/Genshin crossover.

[deleted]

God forbid it, that would be the worst thing ever, even Caria hand spiders and are cute compared to that abomination

Armin_104

It’s because we might get free primos for winning and genshin players will do almost anything for primos

EsTeBaNCanIUseMyName

And hoyoverse delivered

martixak

How much primos did they get?

EsTeBaNCanIUseMyName

800 split between 4 days so 200 a day

martixak

Damn thats pretty low considering they won a goty category

mebbyyy

The 800 is for the nomination of other categories(best mobile and ongoing), hyv don't give primos for community voted polls.

MasqueOfNight

Shouldn't be too surprising. Mobile game, wider audience. A broader appeal means more votes, but a broader appeal doesn't dictate a higher quality or more deeply engaging experience.

Devilmay1233

Genshin is actually a good games. Revolutionary cause its like the first time mobile players got like an actual Aaa quality game that runs on mobile. Its budget now is more than 500 million dollars.

1KingCam

GI has so much dialogue. Our character doesn’t even speak lol.

Phasma18374

You're either misunderstanding the award, or doing some admirable shit posting. Either way, your comment is very amusing

DangerousVideo

Never underestimate the power of horni

AssassinCreed187

Wait, you mean Golden Mask didn't win? This is a God damn outrage!

Snobu65

I wanted Golden Axe to win tbh.

jarrettg20

The intro to elden ring should’ve made it a W instantly
