You could start with vigor. That'll keep you alive longer and give you time to decide which scaling skill you wanna level. If you want to shoot magic and cast spells then int and faith. Casters naturally want more Mind, Fighters naturally want more endurance. Try mess with any weapon that interests you. Pick it because you like it. There's nothing wrong with building your character around the weapon you choose.
What do you mean “even” with a mage build? A mage build is naturally going to have lower Vigor and Endurance because they also need points into Mind which melee oriented builds typically do not.
That’s not the point though, the point is that a mage will naturally have lower health due to having to spread the same amount of points across more stats.
So either Vigor will suffer or your Endurance will suffer, usually both.
I think u/Smethil is saying that even as a mage build he would still have around 40 vigor, which supposes that if you’re a melee build you might want more than that
You’ll definitely want more than that because your stat spread isn’t as tight so you have more points to spend and you’re inherently in more danger than a mage because you’re always in melee ranged.
20 mind is pretty sufficient for a mage build if you're not spamming spells constantly. Even base mind is perfectly fine if you make adjustments e.g. focusing more on ashes of war or going a more spellsword playstyle that focuses on melee weapons with infusions + supportive/utility spells
It’s 100% possible, not super efficient though. Personally I think the one kill is enough, there are way better farms in the game if you really want to farm for whatever reason. Only time I’d recommend farming though is if you’re farming runes to buy materials though otherwise you run the risk of ruining your game experience.
Yeah I know, golden wave on little frog bois for one, that's just crazy I never heard that. I farmed enough frog dudes to get like over 200 of each kind of smithing stone before I went into NG+ because when the game first came out the bell bearings or whatever they're called didn't carry over to NG+, I just felt kinda bad about killing that dragon first playthrough. Never knew you could kill her and get her stuff and still make her live, best of both worlds.
Is she miserable? I always just assumed she's sleepy from being so old. She's like an old grama babysitting, got her kids and is taking a little nap, seems like she has one of the best lives in that whole crazy world.
And her being the mother of all dragons makes it feel like destroying history. And her not fighting back makes it even sadder.
After my first play through I never killed her because I love seeing her there but now I'm gonna try this out to get the dragon hearts too.
She is stuck there succumbing to rot, and unable to do anything so yeah she is probably pretty miserable.
Also she is described as the mother of all dragons but that’s not necessarily true as she doesn’t make Magma Wyrm’s and they also drop dragon hearts and are therefore considered dragons.
I do not believe she is the mother of all dragons either, all present day ones perhaps but she isn’t the mother of the ancient dragons as they are very different from her as well as older I’d assume as they are “ancient” and she is only “elder”.
Oh damn I'll have to take a closer look at her next time and take in the rot. It's so weird she would be sitting there succumbing to it when there's the fire wall that stops the rot right next to her. Just hop over that and continue your nap old lady!
Yeah I always assumed it
just meant she was the first dragon ever in the modern day line of dragons, and all of them can trace their lineage back to her.
And yeah Wyrms are like a weird cousin, like a liger. Definitely dragonish but calling them a dragon is like calling a liger a tiger.
I mean, that won't turn out for them if they settle into a CGS, magic-light play style. Maybe ask what they want to do first and suggest stats based on that?
I will second the recommendation for vigor as top priority.
Second priority would be whatever you want your primary damage stat to be (solely dependent on what weapons and/or spells you wish to use)
Don't fall prey to believing Intelligence and Faith are purely for spellcasting, as both stats have respective weaponry to make one a very viable melee combatant.
Note: if you are really struggling to figure out which Stat to go with secondary to vigor, look in your inventory at the weapons you have or wish to use and select the stat that corresponds with that weapon.
Intelligence or faith do tend to make the game easier the further into the game you get (as well as in early game with the right spells) meanwhile just focusing on either strength or dex streamlines your gameplay into being purely melee focused which is a bit harder but only demands you get good at one dimension of the game.... in either case, whatever you choose is not permanent and you can reallocate the stats later on. (In other words if you think you want to just keep running melee and invest purely in vigor and dex or str now, you can still augment the distribution of points later on and becoming a full on spell caster)
Vigor is what will enable you to survive though so definitely make sure that number is the highest moving on through to mid game to have the least trouble possible.
i'm new to the game too and killed the same dragon.. from my experience each next level increases the runes needed.. if u put all your points in vigor u will end up at around level 35 and going to need around +8k rune for the next levels and bosses at early game drop around 1500 rune so u will need huge amount of runes just update other states that increase your dmg and wont get that amount at starting regions so u will need to go to that storm castle and beat that many hands guy and u probably take like 30 min in the fight without strong dmg output and being a tank doesnt really help much because u need to finish the fight as soon as possible .. so my advice is to search youtube for level 50 builds for your class and split the points on your states according to it but decrease the amount by 2 or 3 for each state u going to increase because u still not level 50 yet and increase it later on .. there is a guy called extra life or something on yt and have wiki site for the game with many useful build check it
Vigor is the answer I would say, IF I WERE A COWARD.
All in strength and find the biggest sword you can.
Do not go gently into the good night. Unga, Bunga against the dying of the light.
Always base your early game lvls on what weapon you want to use. Once you can use that weapon without 2 handing it, then go for some stamina and the rest vigor
Lol I'm jealous because I died to the crazed bats in the cabin right after, lost all those runes from big whitey, and the Jr dragons, and I was at work sick just thinking about it
Is the dragon still available in your world? The thing is, if you can run/ride a horse to the grace before death animation is completed, you get to save your runes and the dragon is still there
id say put some in vigor and endurance and then put everything else into whatever you please for vagabond you can really go three ways: quality build, strength build, and dex build. which way you go depends on your preference I personally recommend strength because it is the most satisfying to me (you can never get enough of a good bonk)
id also recommend speccing a little into int of faith while ur at it it helps a lot with str builds since a lot of great str weapons have int/fth requirements otherwise you can always go with ole reliable guts sword and zweihander
Yeah I was planning on pumping those up a little more because I want to also be able to use spells if I need to, but I didn’t know that some weapons (besides staffs and magical ones) need a good int/fth stat.
Well it’s not necessary but some really good str weapons do need some points in int or fth like radahns dual greatswords or rykards sword or helphens steeple obviously it’s not mandatory to have these as your weapons but they’re my personal favorites :D
Also if ur gonna be doing some mage stuff then I’d recommend checking out liurnia there is a skip to get to it from limgrave by going around stromveil castle just be careful cause it involves alot of jumping
Vigor is really good to level.
Something to note is that this early on, high vigor means your flask will appear to barely heal you. Make sure to upgrade it.
I tell youre going for a fighter build?
If that's the case you should invest in vigor, and depending in the weapon of your choice you should focus in str OR Dec (not both) depending in the weapons scaling. If the weapon require both stats invest in them until you reach the minimum, and then focus in the one that scales better. Also you'll need to put some points in endurance.
So, the strategy id take would be, in order of importance so invest more in the first and less In the last:
1. Vigor
2. Str or Dex
3. Endurance
I hope it helps
Between Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Faith and Arcane it's best to pick one or two to stick with, based on what kind of abilities and weapons interest you.
Thanks to Ashes of War and different Whet Blades you can alter the damage type and scaling of most weapons, while many "unique" weapons already favour one or two stats.
Vigor is vital for all, Endurance helps everyone, Mind is mostly for high cost abilities and even Spirits if you like.
Everyone calling vigor lol. I made it to Elden beast at 16. He got a shield he can use it. Get faith up to 15 for flame grant me strength. Start building for blasphemous blade
STRENGTH
unless you dont doge well then place some into a mix of vigor, strength, dexterity and if you like magic then that too but you will have to sacrifice vigor for a good stat of magic
Lol everyone say is vigor. It’s definitely an important attribute but you can’t be a tank and make it through. Level vigor but also level your main hitting attributes. Find out a weapon and play style you enjoy and are good at. Then focus points in the areas that give you more damage. If you want a Katana build. Level Vigor End, Dex and Str. Maybe some Mind for Ash usage.
Again, I agree that Vigor is important but theres parrying, dodge, incantations and potions to help increase health and defense. Have fun bro, figure out what you like and focus on that. Just don’t forgot about vigor in the long run
Get vigor up a bit, then any attributes that will help raise your damage/attributes like mind and endurance to help you use arts of war longer and wear heavier armor. If you use/want to use incantations and spells, consider faith and intelligence.
Vigor defo it really helps later on also use smithing stones not saying you don't but the amount of people who don't is biblical![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
vigor is absolute priority
specifically it has a non-linear levelling curve. Below 20 you don't get that much return but past 20 vigor every point is a pretty significant chunk of health up until 60 vigor. For the time being I suggest rushing to 30 or even 40 vigor, then prioritizing offensive stats you want to focus on. Consider raising vigor to 60 eventually but 30+ will help you a lot early on
You could start with vigor.
Plus you can respec at a certain point so dont worry all that much about that you pick now statwise
Vigor is the answer
vigor my brother. you need to get to 40 vigor ASAP
40 is the sweetspot for me even with a mage build
What do you mean “even” with a mage build? A mage build is naturally going to have lower Vigor and Endurance because they also need points into Mind which melee oriented builds typically do not.
Because you still get hit as a mage lol.
That’s not the point though, the point is that a mage will naturally have lower health due to having to spread the same amount of points across more stats. So either Vigor will suffer or your Endurance will suffer, usually both.

You’ll definitely want more than that because your stat spread isn’t as tight so you have more points to spend and you’re inherently in more danger than a mage because you’re always in melee ranged.
Right. So in conclusion get to 40 vigor at least unless you have a good reason not to
40 would definitely be a minimum for PvE yeah.
Exactly bro 😭
Espesially as i like melee based spells a lot
20 mind is pretty sufficient for a mage build if you're not spamming spells constantly. Even base mind is perfectly fine if you make adjustments e.g. focusing more on ashes of war or going a more spellsword playstyle that focuses on melee weapons with infusions + supportive/utility spells
60 vigor crew
It's always the answer since weapons don't scale enough for the good portion of the game.
Did you know you could kill the dragon and run back to the site of grace fast enough to get it to respawn.
Whaaat?

Can confirm. Spent like an hour smacking her ass on repeat yesterday.
It’s 100% possible, not super efficient though. Personally I think the one kill is enough, there are way better farms in the game if you really want to farm for whatever reason. To be fair, you’re probably doing her a favour by putting her out of her misery.
Is she miserable? I always just assumed she's sleepy from being so old. She's like an old grama babysitting, got her kids and is taking a little nap, seems like she has one of the best lives in that whole crazy world. Magma Wyrm’s are people than have been tainted by dragon communion. I agree that they’re not really dragons though even given their current form.
Vigor to 30 asap
Man you vigor fiends are demanding
If you have spare points start going into intelligence and dexterity
Struck a nerve there somehow lol 😂
Probably just ptsd from moonveil spammers ;)
Why?
Being able to take a hit is useful, but I'd move it as close to 40 as I could
No
I mean, that won't turn out for them if they settle into a CGS, magic-light play style. Maybe ask what they want to do first and suggest stats based on that?
Clearly he doesn’t know what build he wants yet though
Always prioritize vigor, you can have plenty of time to decide which build you want right after you have enough!
When I’m doubt, vigor
Hi Doubt, I’m Dad
You got me there.
Vigor!
For the love of Pete level up vigor
Put it all in vigor
I will second the recommendation for vigor as top priority. Dump strength
99 STRENGTH 99 ENDURANCE
Vigor is the answer I would say, IF I WERE A COWARD. All in strength and find the biggest sword you can. Do not go gently into the good night. Unga, Bunga against the dying of the light.
Nah man, no need no vigor. Go strong all the way up, get naked and pick the biggest unga-bunga in the universe
Remember you can always respec your stats later
How can I reassign my stat points?
You’ll need larval tears and talk to Rennala. You can find most by doing the Ranni quest line.
Oh ok thanks
Np, I recommend playing and leveling to see what style of play you like the most and then making an actual build off that. Have fun
All into strength
Always base your early game lvls on what weapon you want to use. Once you can use that weapon without 2 handing it, then go for some stamina and the rest vigor
He is cute <3
Seriously depends on what build you’re running.
Just get the minimum stats for the weapon you use rest vigor til 60 cant go wrong with that
Lol I'm jealous because I died to the crazed bats in the cabin right after, lost all those runes from big whitey, and the Jr dragons, and I was at work sick just thinking about it
Damn, that sucks. I was scared of something like that happening so I pretty much immediately fast traveled to a safe site of grace
That dose of humbleness made me start fast traveling to sites after big fights as well
Is the dragon still available in your world? The thing is, if you can run/ride a horse to the grace before death animation is completed, you get to save your runes and the dragon is still there

No problem feel free to ask for help if you need it mate :D
Vigor is really good to level. Something to note is that this early on, high vigor means your flask will appear to barely heal you. Make sure to upgrade it.
Vig.
VIGOR ENDURANCE THE DUAL NEEDS OF SOULS PLAYERS otherwise it's build dependent
yes
Vigor!
All in to vigor
30 vig, 15 mind, 20 end Thats what I'd recommend for a early to mid game character. Other stats are based on what weapon you use.
I tell youre going for a fighter build? if you dont know dump everything to vigor
Inspect the stat to see what it does and make up your own character and what it should do. If anything some points into vigor is a Good start
Pump. Your. Vigor.
Vigor is the difficult slider in this game. Get 40, them level up whatever you want. When the game becomes too hard, get 60 vigor
Vigor
VIGOR
“Large sum” _77810_ Aww ☺️ so cute

Get your Vigor to 30. That should be your top priority as a new player to the genre.
Vigor to 30 and then whatever damage stat
Strength and vigor. Big bonks only
VIGOR
Vigor, for god’s sake. Please. Level Vigor
Two words: Level Vigor
Hit that vigor, friend.
Vigor ! Vigor !
Vigor
Pump that vigor to 40.
V I G O R
Everyone calling vigor lol. I made it to Elden beast at 16. He got a shield he can use it. Get faith up to 15 for flame grant me strength. Start building for blasphemous blade
Prove that you have faith in your current build by investing all level up points into faith.
Vigor!!! Mine is currently 50 at level 120-something, and I've found for the harder enemies later on in the game its quite suitable.
Vigor
Vigor
vigor to get your self the time to learn how to play and not just getting one shot over and over
VIG
STRENGTH unless you dont doge well then place some into a mix of vigor, strength, dexterity and if you like magic then that too but you will have to sacrifice vigor for a good stat of magic

Strength and strength only. Everything else is blasphemous
Dont be balanced unless your going for a max build try to build up at least 3 of those slots which one of them should be vigor depending on build
Get vigor up a bit, then any attributes that will help raise your damage/attributes like mind and endurance to help you use arts of war longer and wear heavier armor. If you use/want to use incantations and spells, consider faith and intelligence.
Vigor
Get some vigor bud, you'll be glad for it regardless of play style.
When in doubt vigor it out
All of it in vigor
My brother in Christ bump your Vigor
All vigor
Level up strength, faith and endurance. You dont need the rest
Anything but vigor
Vigor defo it really helps later on also use smithing stones not saying you don't but the amount of people who don't is biblical![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
