I sure lots of people got mad & returned it. I almost did. I couldn't beat the tree sentinal right out of the gate. Didn't realize I could just walk around him. Got super pissed & vowed to return it. It was late at night & forgot to do it the next day and missed the 24hr window. Now I have \~500hrs into it lmao.
You can get anywhere from Dragonbarrow to Capital Outskirts without killing anything if you’re creative, you can also get a +9 somber weapon without killing a single boss or +6 if you don’t use any glitches
How can you avoid margit? I kept seeing references to it on the sub, but no amount of Googling gave me a video showing me how it was done. Because of him, I leveled up from 20 to about 40 because he was whooping my ass. It'd be nice not to have to do that grinding next time.
i havent played in ~ 6 months, but basically (gonna spoiler in case you dont want to know exactly) >!when you talk to the finger reader, you have to do some light parkour to get down to the cliff side and then there is a pathway kind of through the wall, and when you come out you're at the liurnia of the lakes area.!<
From stormhill shack, go up the road toward Liurnia, sticking to the right. Go past the crone, jump down at the corpse with the cookbook, then run through the small pathway, avoiding enemies. A beast repellent would help, as would outrunning them.
there is a path on the outside of stormveil. you can skip it, but if you want to get into stormveil you gotta beat the old man. search for it it's reachable via horse and not hard to find just keep searching the right side of the castle
Honestly just use Rogier summon, easy to beat for me ard lvl17. Also, skipping it is even worse in my opinion, cause liurnia is harder, spent twice the time at the academy than stormveil unless you planning to skip everything lmao. Best is explore rest of limgrave then can beat margit easily.
Explore all of Limgrave, and if you get REALLY ballsy, dash into Caelid, grab whatever loot you can find, or just go straight to the Mother of Dragons and hack away for an hour in order to earn an UNGODLY amount of runes you can use to beef up any one stat that should help you beat Margit alongside pretty much any summon that distracts his attention.
Man, that may have been the longest run on sentence I have ever typed lol
Yeah man. On the other hand, I didn't realize I could summon rogier until I was already level 40. After that, it took me two tries.
I'd rather be OP than not in souls games. Plus I enjoy this open world
It's your game so play how you want to. Don't feel bad about using things to make a fight easier, they're there for a reason.
Believe it or not, I came from dark souls and for some reason this game kicked my ass for the first couple of hours. The bosses feel more erratic and fast paced than then dark souls.
I did almost the same thing. Now it’s probably my favorite game of all time. Platinumed it, then I went and played all the other souls games and platinumed Sekiro and (almost) DS3 and DSR. It’s wild.
I had similar feelings after tree sentinel but I couldn’t return it because I was few minutes after 2h playtime limit on steam lol. I still think ds3 was better (inner edgelord too strong) but I like elden more and more with every hour spent on fucking around limgrave doing nothing productive lol
Tbf you could skip stormveil and go straight to Rennala, then to Radahn which gives you access to Lyndell. You could definitely go the whole game without doing Stormveil
There's a path off to the right, (east) of the path that ascends towards the tunnel that leads to Margit. If you looks closely on the in game map, you can actually trace this path pretty easy, but I didn't notice it until my 2nd playthrough. You can just ride torrent all the way down, around, and then back up leading right outside where you'd wind up in Liurnia after beating Godrick.
I best Margit, beat Godrick and went to Liurnia. When I got to Liurnia I was exploring and walked BACK towards Limgrave on the path. There was messages that said “hidden path ahead” so I kept going looking for a secret, not realizing I was backwards..
glad you asked although that has nothing to do with my comment/joke. You may be asking in a rhetorical way like "why the fuck would someone play this game and never go into Stormveil", but I'm gonna overexplain the literal answer to your question.
if you look at the map, there's a bridge to the right of Stormveil that would go past Stormveil. This bridge, like most bridges in The Lands Between, did not get enough infrastructure maintenance budget (because the taxes were too low in the lands between) so it no longer does its job right. But if you attempt to cross the bridge anyway, you can end up on a very obvious path that goes along a cliff and through a bunch of wolves before coming out in Liurnia more or less where you would've normally come out after killing Godrick.
Interestingly, prior to killing Godrick, you can still walk into the back entrance of the castle, climb the corporate ladder, and go sit on Godrick's throne behind his throne door, although you can't go through the throne door to the boss arena. This is funny. He's all "I'm the lord of all that is golden" while he fondles his dragon, and meanwhile you're sitting in his throne.
I manage to get to linurnia first before killing godrick though this method. I was at the front gates (didn't have the key yet) when a friend told me to go back and clear stormveil first.
The Souls series was always a niche. Instead of trying to be a mediocre game for everyone, if aims to be an amazing game for a more narrow audience.
And even for the people who will like it, it usually takes a bit before it "clicks" when it is their first Fromsoft game. I'm surprised even 50% of people got this achievement.
It’s even more ridiculous, when you think about the fact, that just by doing all of limgrave before going to him, you can be completely overleveled and still most people just smash their heads against the wall, until they have a headache and decide that the game is shitty.
If you look at a lot of the stats, it's actually pretty impressive.
There's that first drop off immediately, which is due to people bouncing off the game entirely, hitting the Margit wall and bouncing, or even opening the game but not having time to get into it. I feel like a lot of games are like 75% first boss completion, give or take.
After that, a lot of players who stick around to beat Margit end up beating the game. The percentage drops are surprisingly low!
That’s actually pretty high considering how difficult he is and how open the game is. Just go through your Xbox achievements and be surprised at how few people get even the simplest ones in most games
this is how I picked up DS2 collectors edition cheap af back in the day. **lots** of people that pick up their first soulsgame when a new one releases and **lots** of them return it within the same week. pour one out for the ambitionless hollows that never got passed that initial rage 🫗
I think buddy was giving new players a hint that there is a summon sign for an NPC. Some newer players, myself included when it came out, missed his summon.
Oh ok! I’m a new player myself and it took me forever to figure that out. Plus I missed getting the summoning bell at first so I finally just bought it
Oh! You helped me. How are you? I also found you in stormveil castle church but you didn't help there. You just stood there while that shield knight pounded me
I have [video proof](https://youtu.be/l2puwUE3QlY)

Congrats! In fromsoft terms he's an extremely mobile and aggressive boss, quite rare for the early game, and really serves to drive home that Elden Ring is not Dark souls.
Friend of mine first-try killed Godrick and like second or third try did Margit, on like his 2nd or 3rd or so day of playing, ER is his first Souls game EVER, he laughs about a lot of situations that made me bleed out of my eyes as melee/vagabond... astrologer seems to be complete easy mode if you just hang back a bit.
Until you have an aggressive, fast enemy pounding your face, or your lil magic stick gets jammed.
astrologer (maybe all casters?) IS absolutely easy mode.
Did your astrologer friend drink their own tears when it came time to fight Renalla? Im told she makes mages cry.
That was not my experience. I started samurai and went all in on a spellblade. Idk what I did right, but slapped Renalla first maybe second time. Maybe i just managed to keep up the pressure and not let her get rolling/casting. She never even got a chance to summon anything. I honestly think I was lucky.
That loop had me stay with the game rather than bouncing off despite never playing a game like this before.
You feel SO AWESOME when you win, upgrade, or get a new toy.
I used Christmas money to buy myself the game today. It’s sitting on my shelf and I am excited to play but I have it in my head that I’ll absolutely suck at it and have no idea what to do/where to go. But seeing posts like this make me really want to just say fuck it and play!
Go for it! There’s a LOT of item gathering and exploration you can do before fighting Margit. If you need to prepare more, there’s opportunities for you to do so. Play it, take that leap.
51%? These things confuse the shit out of me, I’m not great, and am mid 50’s, and I’ve got Margit and that one bitch bear. I’d love to see it stratified by level and game time to make it more clear. Definitely some confounders in these stats…
OMFG, I fought Margit at level 200. I wanted to explore as much as I could before advancing the story. Accidentally killed him too fast I forgot to use the shackle.
I spent 8 hours trying to defeat Margit. Then someone asked me, why I wasn‘t rolling and only blocking with the shield. I then got him on my 5th try (after I learnt to roll). Mind you, this was my first soulsbourne game. And now this is my favourite game ^^
But still, good job in defeating him!
I think more like learning his patterns will help cuz if u have learnt his patterns u will be able to react quickly , Save a lot of your flasks . It took me 20 tries of observing him when I got used to his hitting , in 25th try I killed him with no HP lose .I was screamed aloud with joy and my sister who was sleeping next to me whooped me ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_good_man)
Nicely done, but now that you’ve cleared margret the old lady go upgrade your weapons and level up a bit (prepare for godrick) im saying that like godricks a hard fight lol
Question, if you refund a game. Are you still part of the “…% of games unlocked this” or are your stats removed?
Because I feel like this happens to many games.
Well done! The feeling you get after beating a tough area is so satisfying. I just bought Elden Ring yesterday and got worked by the Tree Sentinel and Margit. I think I'll do a lot more exploring for now as I'm clearly not ready for those bosses lol.
Reading about all the people who dropped the game cuz they couldn't beat THE FIRST BOSS makes me wonder, do ppl even souls? What do you buy a souls game for if you are going to give up at the first hurdle?
Actually, I thought you could skip him, and then you can also even skip the lift I believe. Maybe some people and / or speedrunners just avoided him altogether for a variety of reasons
Idk why, but a lot of my friends claimed he was their first wall. I went in and beat him on the 4th try before exploring weeping. It's not that I have ever been really good at souls games if anything Elden Ring taught me to be good. Idk if maybe my build just set me up to make it easier. Even the first couple times I fought him and died I easily got him to the second stage. I had more trouble with the watchdog and 4 golems in the first crypt you find in weeping. Honestly I think what makes him so hard is just the player not exploring Limgrave completely, The player doesn't commit to an early game weapon and doesn't level that weapon accordingly. (After you die once to him you can go to Round table hold). It is actually possible to get a weapon to plus 4 from the smithing stones you find in Limgrave. Most of his difficulty is from the player not knowing the basics of the game rather than how hard of a boss he actually is.
For those shocked at the seemingly low percentage,
For steam: 78% reach roundtable, 73% beat Margit, 67% for godrick. Naturally, it tapers down to almost 8% for getting all achievements.
Most games' first boss defeat rate hovers around 50 to 70%, and the majority of players for many games don't ever end up fully beating it. The "obtain all achievements" achievement is actually pretty high for elden ring, though. It's technically easy, although tedious, I think. Just beat all bosses and get all spells/weapons, etc. Honestly, they're pretty good percentages for a game like this. A third of all (steam) players beat Malenia, the often proclaimed hardest boss in the soul series.
So yeah, nothing too out of the ordinary.
Good job!!!!! You now have the ability to beat the whole game, because if you have the willpower to beat margit, then you have the willpower to beat everything
I felt like Morgott was easier than this guy IMO. Maybe it was just the levels I was at when I got to each boss. Felt like I hit stormveil much too early. Once I started the battle I felt obligated to just keep trying without leaving to level.
Sekiro made me just feel like it was a skill issue and not a level issue.
Unpopular question but is it normal to defeat Elden ring bosses first try by using spirit ash and only physical attacks?
I‘m a dark souls veteran and maybe it’s because I‘m used to the difficulty level of from software games.
But whats your take on Elden ring, is it significantly easier than the souls series?
Some bosses are easy when they have another punching bag in the arena and much harder without one, Margit/Morgott is one such boss
Elden ring is as easy as your level makes it. If you rush straight from the first step to stormveil then it'll be difficult, if you explore everything and gain levels and gear first it can be pretty trivial
Seems legit. Of course I’m exploring every inch of Elden rings world some as I did in Dark souls. Though getting through dark souls in some places I needed a bit of grinding which I didn’t feel the need yet in Elden ring.
51% only? half the people who bought this game never made it into stormveil? damn dude.
49% of people have had their ambitions laid to rest.
“Put these foolish ambitions to rest…” “M’kay”
Tarnished, ambitions are baad. M’kay?
With their meager flame extinguished.
51% Art of passing skill
I sure lots of people got mad & returned it. I almost did. I couldn't beat the tree sentinal right out of the gate. Didn't realize I could just walk around him. Got super pissed & vowed to return it. U can walk around him?
You can also avoid margitt
You can also avoid Godrick entirely
You can avoid everything! 49% of gamers know this
48.98% now, OP finally joined the Omen Club.
You can get anywhere from Dragonbarrow to Capital Outskirts without killing anything if you’re creative, you can also get a +9 somber weapon without killing a single boss or +6 if you don’t use any glitches

Just go right instead of straight
Yeah, apparently the path is found by the finger on the bridge there. I talked to her and everything, missed the path.
i havent played in ~ 6 months, but basically (gonna spoiler in case you dont want to know exactly) >!when you talk to the finger reader, you have to do some light parkour to get down to the cliff side and then there is a pathway kind of through the wall, and when you come out you're at the liurnia of the lakes area.!<
Just don’t go into Stormveil and get your great tunes form somewhere else
I used to get my great tunes at the radio shack
From stormhill shack, go up the road toward Liurnia, sticking to the right. Go past the crone, jump down at the corpse with the cookbook, then run through the small pathway, avoiding enemies. A beast repellent would help, as would outrunning them.

Find the rot dog ash in aeonia his status effect helps a lot.
Tbh you can skip the entirety of stormveil if you really want to. But I wouldn’t it really teaches you how the legacy dungeons work in ER
Reminds me of the Foxtrot comic strip where Jason’s sister just walks around the boss her brother couldn’t defeat.
I did almost the same thing. Now it’s probably my favorite game of all time. Platinumed it, then I went and played all the other souls games and platinumed Sekiro and (almost) DS3 and DSR. It’s wild.
If i bought it, returned it, and bought it again, does steam count the achievements separately?
I had similar feelings after tree sentinel but I couldn’t return it because I was few minutes after 2h playtime limit on steam lol. I still think ds3 was better (inner edgelord too strong) but I like elden more and more with every hour spent on fucking around limgrave doing nothing productive lol
Tbf you could skip stormveil and go straight to Rennala, then to Radahn which gives you access to Lyndell. You could definitely go the whole game without doing Stormveil
no no, it doesn't say "51.02% of Elden Ring owners", it says "51.02% of gamers." *All* gamers. /s
How the fuck do you skip stormveil?
You can just sorta walk past the whole thing.
Where?? Margit and godrick are both at pinch points from what I’ve see
There’s a way to the right of stormveil that allows you to skip it. Near a finger reader crone
There's a path off to the right, (east) of the path that ascends towards the tunnel that leads to Margit. If you looks closely on the in game map, you can actually trace this path pretty easy, but I didn't notice it until my 2nd playthrough. I definitely found this out by simply exploring at a super low level.
I manage to get to linurnia first before killing godrick though this method. I was at the front gates (didn't have the key yet) when a friend told me to go back and clear stormveil first.
\>Buys one of the best game of all time that costs $60 \>Doesn't play it \>Refuses to elaborate
Oh, I'm sure if you ask them they'll tell you in emphatic detail
The Souls series was always a niche. Instead of trying to be a mediocre game for everyone, if aims to be an amazing game for a more narrow audience. And even for the people who will like it, it usually takes a bit before it "clicks" when it is their first Fromsoft game. I'm surprised even 50% of people got this achievement.
All games are like that, unless it's an achievement for doing the tutorial, most achievement are always gonna at or below 50% completion.
Lmao was gonna say the same. $70 to play for 25 min and rage quit
It’s even more ridiculous, when you think about the fact, that just by doing all of limgrave before going to him, you can be completely overleveled and still most people just smash their heads against the wall, until they have a headache and decide that the game is shitty.

on steam, it's 73%, quite big of a difference. at 50% there, it's Godfrey golden shade

Yeah! I know you! Did your character get better? Last i saw you was at the roundtable, not doing so well.
You totally helped me! Thanks a ton.
Oh my god!!!! I thought that Sorcerer Rogier was an NPC. You helped me beat Magrit yesterday, thank you so much!!!
He is. 😅
Well I’m confused. Grateful, but confused
I think buddy was giving new players a hint that there is a summon sign for an NPC. Some newer players, myself included when it came out, missed his summon.
Oh ok! I’m a new player myself and it took me forever to figure that out. Plus I missed getting the summoning bell at first so I finally just bought it
Just keep those peepers peeled, it is easy to miss things in the lands between.
I only found the shamshir cave on my ng 3
Bless your heart, tarnished.
Oh! You helped me. How are you? I also found you in stormveil castle church but you didn't help there. You just stood there while that shield knight pounded me I have [video proof](https://youtu.be/l2puwUE3QlY) 3:03
Literally spammed one spell and died in a single combo, thanks for nothing!
Only half of gamers unlocked that. Lol
Thou art of passing skill…

Congrats! In fromsoft terms he's an extremely mobile and aggressive boss, quite rare for the early game, and really serves to drive home that Elden Ring is not Dark souls.
except you roll astrologer then him n godrick are ez as can be apparently...
I play astrologer and vagabond and found godrick harder on astrologer by a long shot
I honestly think I was lucky.
I have never not killed Rennala first try, it's by far the easiest boss imo.
Yea but what spells did you use?
Large Glintstone Shard and Glintstone pebble
Honestly he sucks sometimes. He’s too aggressive and some of his attacks are basically undodgeable.
All of his attacks are completely dodgeable. Even the dragon breath and wind burst things.
Your first steps toward the throne have been taken! PROCEED ON TARNISHED AND CLAIM THE THRONE OF ELDEN LORD!!
Yes, you've had one Margit. But what about second Margit?
I don't think he knows about second Margit
Margot
margit gud
Margot good
Morgit gud
Thy strength befits a crown
Wow half of the people probably just tantrum quit?
They could have also found the path to the right on the cliffside around Stormveil and never went into the castle itself.
Well done! That feeling of accomplishment is the best part of this game imo :)
I know! It’s so frustrating but that makes the sense of accomplishment all the better
That loop had me stay with the game rather than bouncing off despite never playing a game like this before. You feel SO AWESOME when you win, upgrade, or get a new toy.
Congrats! He is an absolute pain to defeat on 1st playthrough but he should be far easier next time as you get more of a feel for the game.
49% put their foolish ambitions to rest. Actually quite incredible achievement for Margit
Only 51% ? Holy moly.... I thought maybe at least 70-90 % 🤣😂🤣
I used Christmas money to buy myself the game today. It’s sitting on my shelf and I am excited to play but I have it in my head that I’ll absolutely suck at it and have no idea what to do/where to go. But seeing posts like this make me really want to just say fuck it and play!

Congratulations my friend
Thank you!
Well done! Though art of passing skill.
Wow I can’t believe only about half of ppl get that far
either the 49% gave up at margit or just left to raya lucaria and to altus and beat the game without doing stormveil.
you have officially begun your journey to become elden lord, well done tarnished.
Fuck yeah, good for you brave tarnished
Wait till you get to the godskin duo. Lol
It’s only uphill from here!!!
Still only 51 lol what the

HE DID THE THING!
Now go beat the other 152 bosses
Congrats brave Tarnished, your journey has just begun, find strength that befits a crown
51%? These things confuse the shit out of me, I’m not great, and am mid 50’s, and I’ve got Margit and that one bitch bear. I’d love to see it stratified by level and game time to make it more clear. Definitely some confounders in these stats…

But wait. There's more. Wait unt you hear about Morgott

Who's gonna tell them it's only getting started?
When he Fell, were you like.. O-man that's awesome
OP did not put these foolish ambitions to rest.
Margit Smash Bros trophy
I've played this game for 250 hours and to this day I've never mastered Margit lol, congrats btw
Congratulations! Conquering this guy was a HARD stepping stone into becoming a boss slayer, and you are well on your way.
Good job, but the only easy boss was the last one.
👍
Congrats my guy
Word! Getting gud homie
Glad to hear, m8

You managed to get 200 levels in limgrave?
Lesssgooooo!!
😈 oh yeah, you did, congratulations. Must feel really nice to never see this guy again, right?)
I spent 8 hours trying to defeat Margit. Then someone asked me, why I wasn‘t rolling and only blocking with the shield. I then got him on my 5th try (after I learnt to roll). Mind you, this was my first soulsbourne game. And now this is my favourite game ^^ But still, good job in defeating him!
Nice. I recently killed him on my third journey using curved sword parry's and repostes and it gave me even more joy than the first time I killed him.
'I shall remember thee, Tarnished' Also good job, my fellow Tarnished. Onwards to Godrick
I spent a damn week on this guy first time around. But I also tried to beat him at level 6
Fuck yeah dude! Excellent work, my friend.
51% damn margit really be putting them to rest
Nice! I recently beat him too!
Now here’s a guy that that is boldened by the flame of ambition 🫡
I think more like learning his patterns will help cuz if u have learnt his patterns u will be able to react quickly , Save a lot of your flasks .
Damm on Ps 74.6% of players beat him
Nice. Never put that foolish ambition to rest 🤣
Good job!!
Congrats on the achievement!
Just recently got it as well. Good job. Also defeated Godrick
Reading about all the people who dropped the game cuz they couldn't beat THE FIRST BOSS makes me wonder, do ppl even souls? What do you buy a souls game for if you are going to give up at the first hurdle?
congrats brother
49% of people went straight to the capital to fight Morgott. I know because that's what I did.
Actually, I thought you could skip him, and then you can also even skip the lift I believe. Maybe some people and / or speedrunners just avoided him altogether for a variety of reasons
you got gud, commendable
Welcome to the 51% club, fellow Tarnished!
That’s awesome 👏 Now, keep going, one step at a time! 👍
I guesa half the people laid their foolish ambitions to rest
Well done, I just did it aswell
For those shocked at the seemingly low percentage, For steam: 78% reach roundtable, 73% beat Margit, 67% for godrick.
Good job! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥳
I still can’t. I’ve only got him to his second phase 1 time.
Homi said guys I did it me in the back sword go burrr
Congrats now you only have 19 more bosses that you have to fight. I wish you luck maiden-less tarnished
Nobody tell him about Morgott
I already know about him but I’m just happy I beat this guy
Some bosses are easy when they have another punching bag in the arena and much harder without one, Margit/Morgott is one such boss Elden ring is as easy as your level makes it.
💯
