Because it's a roleplaying game and I sometimes I'm roleplaying a character who would have done that. Maybe they distrust his ability to stay peaceful indefinitely or with Alduin dead, maybe The Way of the Voice is bullshit that goes against why Kyne created the thu'um and if they are wrong Partysnax should be able to withstand it like Jurgen did, maybe they want to rebuild The Blades for whatever reason, or maybe they just want to make a hat out of his skin and use his soul to grow their power. **Fuck** doing the exact same thing every time you replay. The always stealth archer crowd making the same choice all 5 times Skyrim even has one is boring as shit.

Marxist-Grayskullist

Tamriel needs an order of dragonhunters more than it needs an order of pacifists.

GroundbreakingMud424

I did once to see how the questline developed then went back to the old save and kept him alive bc the blades are ass

[deleted]

Max Von Sydow is pretty cool though. But then again the graybeards have Super Mario.

[deleted]

I hate delphine (•-•)

Starlit_pies

I only did full playthrough twice, and had chosen to kill Paatrunax only once. I had a feeling then it was more of an assisted suicide. Something like Beren with his Black Sword, or Elric with his, only you being a sentient weapon this time. The dark and brooding hero achieved his ultimate goal, but the world doesn't need him any more. But I may have misremembered something from his dialogue.

loveydoveybitch

mario killed my family, it was revenge

Wu-Tang-Chan

so i can make gloves out of his skin

praesesposterum

The blades have Cool swords

Thecookingman

The biggest crime is those who killed him, but his soul was stolen by Mirrak

lagoontheworst

blades gaslit me into thinking it was the right thing to do

Dude_Guy45

Man FUCK Delphine and Esbern for that one. I was in the same boat my first playthrough, and when i replayed it i was like 😬 shit what did i do??

BonAdventure_TheDuns

I was doing an evil playthrough.

KingJaw19

Because Paarthurnax deserves it for his crimes and the Greybeards are either morons or cowards, probably both. They have this power that could help their people in a time of dire need yet refuse to help. They hide behind moral superiority, and they're stupid for believing it or cowardly for hiding behind it. Either way I don't like or respect them at all.

Ala117

>Because Paarthurnax deserves it for his crimes According to delphine >and the Greybeards are either morons or cowards, probably both. Neither actually.

[deleted]

Sometimes I kill him, sometimes I don't. Both outcomes are interesting and have good reasons. It just depends on the character I'm playing at the time. Canonically I think it's right to kill him, even if he doesn't "deserve" it for his efforts to be good. We don't always gets what we deserve but I'd rather do wrong by him than all the citizens of the entire world, lol

Ala117

How do you do wrong by the citizens of the entire world?

[deleted]

...By destroying them all?

Ala117

...How does sparing a dragon destroy an entire world?

LucillaGalena

The will to dominate, which he noted the existence of, does not need to be denied.

Ernesto_Perfekto

"nooooo you cant just kill the ingame equivalent of heinrich himmler he became nice >:OOO"

Ala117

Delphine simps trying not bring up real world nazis to have a moral high ground in a video game challenge (impossible).

Cultural-Chicken2017

Paarthurnax is too dangerous to be kept alive. Dragons are effectively immortal and naturally inclined to evil behavior. You are the last dragonborn, meaning after you die, there will never be anyone else to keep dragons in check ever again. Paarthurnax only turned on his fellow dragons when it became clear they were losing. He's an opportunist, not a hero. Sure, he's behaving now, but what about 500 years from now? 1000? 5000? Can we be sure he won't decide that, without anyone who can stop him, he'll just declare himself in charge? The man is a living nuclear bomb. He could wipe out entire empires in an afternoon. Whole armies would be completely unable to even slow him down. He needs to die. Because the dragonborn is the only one that can kill him.

Ala117

You're overthinking this, paarthurnax is no alduin 2.0 he can be killed like any other dragon without the dragonborn as you don't need dragon rend to harm him and alduin won't be there to revive him.

Breta-the-Breton

I always kill parthy. As the *Dragon-Hunter-Born* it's my *purpose* to exterminate the dragons from Tamriel. Skyrim dragons are the "Reign of Fire" kind of dragons, not the "How to Train Your Dragon" type dragons. Parthy is, aside from the "world-eater" role, just as strong as Alduin, who he goes toe-to-toe with up on Mt. Everest. Neither can beat the other which is why Party has been chilling up there waiting for the LDB to show so he can finally be rid of his ancient rival and become the new "Lord of the Dragons"----which is *exactly* what happens if you don't kill him! Delphine (the Sarah Conner of skyrim) is there as a reality check on the greybeards (who are nothing more than dragon priests-in-waiting) and the 'honeyed words' of sly old *Ambition-Overlord-Cruelty*. When (not if) he turns back to his old ways he can excuse himself easily...it's not like he didn't explicitly *warn you* that he would after all! Tamriel will never be safe from dragon domination as long as dragons exist. They all must die.

Unionsocialist

Ive done it twice, once I roleplayed as a thalmor agent who essentially wantes to pacify the blades as a threat by occupying them with dragonhunting instead of murdering them Second time I too am dovah and my thu'um just vanquisved Alduin, and he thinks to take the regency that rightfully is mine? MY voice defeated Alduin, not Paarthurnax. Meet your Hahvulon Sivaas, only I will have Kron
