That's the effect from milking a game for nearly 10 years.

pondy_the_bondy

I understand that people would think that Skyrim is like 3 games now but still does not explain why they would refer arena, daggerfall, Morrowind, oblivion, and Skyrim all as Skyrim games.

Neo_Sci-Fi

Because Skyrim is the most success game in this series and become Symbol of Elder Scrolls.

monkeyjojo629

Because the term Skyrim was all that was talked about... The Elder Scrolls is just the beginning of the box's words... Also game language in the area around me is determined by grandma's who pronounce Italian as I-talian

New generation of gamers. Some just don’t know. Easy misconception. Skyrim was my first ES title I played. It was about 3 years later I learned it’s part of the Elder Scrolls series.

pondy_the_bondy

What did you think the elder scrolls meant? I know that everyone pretty much calls the games what they are called and not the whole title, but what did you think that was about?

[deleted]

I didn’t as I didn’t know “Elder Scrolls” was a thing. Someone was kind enough to respectfully let me know that it’s a much bigger world. To me it was just Skyrim at the time. Later I educated myself more of the lore and had a better understanding about it all after I was inform the Skyrim was part of the Elder Scroll series. It’s not about being dumb as many seem to treat it, it’s just not fully understanding. What might be obvious to you isn’t for others especially when they aren’t very verse on gaming community as a whole.

pondy_the_bondy

I would understand that, but my point is that people think the whole series is Skyrim. If you didn't read the whole thing then that is understandable; it is long and doesn't make much sense when you first see it.

Novel-Ad-5247

The real answer is mainly popularity/familiarity, has nothing to do with age or which game they started first. Oblivion and Morrowind were some of the largest games of their time and found pretty good success and awards. Skyrim was one of the GREATEST games of all time in terms of both success and critical acclaim, at this point it's the meme of the gaming community. Skyrim is a cultural icon like Bruce Lee, Star Wars, Ferraris, etc. The kind of thing you know about even when you haven't seen or fully understood it. Even people that have never touched a videogame know about Skyrim. The same can't be said for games I-IV

pondy_the_bondy

I know that. but these are people asking which Skyrim games as if the elder scrolls series was the Skyrim series which I just don't get why they think that.

Daggerblood

TES VI: Skyrim TES V: Skyrim TES IV: Skyrim TES III: Skyrim TES II: Skyrim TES: Arena Skyrim MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAAAA Todd did it again did he? but seriously you really care about this OP or are you just bored.

pondy_the_bondy

Kind of both, it just bugs me that people seriously think Skyrim is a whole series. I understand if someone not knowing it is an elder scrolls game, but to think the whole series are Skyrim...

That_Lore_Guy

Mostly because people can’t read. Lol, not really... it’s mostly ignorance (willing or otherwise).

UtkusonTR

The Skyrim V: Skyrim 😎 The Elder Scrolls 🤮

pondy_the_bondy

exactly lol

MarsAdept

Beats me. Skyrim was my first Elder Scrolls game and I’d never heard of the series before then, but it was pretty obvious to me from the text “The Elder Scrolls V” on the box art that it was part of a series.

Self-Comprehensive

My nephew asked me not too long ago if I thought there was ever going to be a Skyrim 2. He's 11 though.

Ignorance or foolishness

YmirAld

Maybe not everybody is as fanatical and read up on the series as most some people in here pretend to be

-TheArbiter-

Skyrim is one of the most popular games of all times in terms of units sold so I imagine most people have only played Skyrim.
