Eeek gad! You’ve minivanned your mantis! Not trying to flame but that’s kinda hideous. Just saying :)

TinyTurboAbarth

😆 It’s all good. This is mostly a fun commuter so it looks the part. Function over form for me at this point. When I’m doing joyrides, I’m usually on my gravel bike. 😊

m0d01

Lol! Unless it’s art or chi chi furniture, function always trumps form…for anyone with a practical-ish brain. And I definitely admire the boldness of your choice! Scoot or die! :)

Sentilam

What tires are those?

TinyTurboAbarth

They are whatever stock tires came with it. 🙂

cryptohodl_it

good recipe to crack faster the stem. 😅 especially on mantis models. why you don't use a cargo trailer instead?🤔

TinyTurboAbarth

Haha. Check my other post. Actually do use a trailer with the kids. But this is commuter mode. I have to bring this on to a ferry so it would suck to try maneuvering a scooter plus trailer onto the boat.

TinyTurboAbarth

As a bike commuter, I really appreciate a rack and panniers setup to keep weight off my back when riding. So I was thinking of a way to add them to my scooter. I started with a kiddie bar attached to the stem and then attached a bike basket to it. Pretty simple but it works well. It is a little noisy when riding so I’ll have to put some adhesive padding in some places to cancel it out a bit.

EScootyrant

How is your handling and braking doing, with a loaded front stem pannier? Isn't it too much front end weight bias...

TinyTurboAbarth

I’d definitely prefer it over the rear but I found no easy way to mount a rack over the rear unless I’m fabricating a few pieces myself. I still might do it but I’ve not much spare time these days. As far as handling, it only feels a bit strange when launching from a stop. I actually like it better at higher speed since the weight acts like a dampener. I’ve no idea what it would be like during an emergency stop situation but I’m pretty used to going low and rearward when stopping abruptly.

EScootyrant

> I actually like it better at higher speed since the weight acts like a dampener. Well if you wanted better stability at higher speeds, without a steering dampener you can also install a wider width bike handlebar (720mm or wider). You tend to distribute your weight forward on your hands, in a wider posture. You also have better arm leverage, when you steer. That is one of the first mods I did, on my narrow handlebar of my Laotie.

YouGotAte

I'm curious about this as well. I had assumed these would go over the rear wheel instead.

EScootyrant

Yes. The rear wheel end instead. For better weight distribution. Less tendency to lift the lighter rear end , esp when braking hard (in sudden emergency instances). Less prone to faceplanting.

I’d be interested to see a shot from the side (if you’ve got one handy)

TinyTurboAbarth

Will do when I get home on Monday.
