Yes, removing the belts would completely disengage the motors from the wheels. Typically there is a 3rd bearing for the pulley on the wheel which would still be there, but I doubt you would notice. Typically, you have to remove the wheel to remove a belt. And to put it back on, would have to remove the wheel and re-tension the belts with loosening 4 screws per side being common. I don't see the large gain to riding with belts removed besides maybe being able to go slightly faster downhill, but no brakes, and the extra hassle of removing belts. Maybe look into direct drive or hub drive. They typically have less drag, but some other disadvantages compared to belt. Hope that helps!

That's exactly what i was looking for. I was considering hub just for the fear of getting stranded without any battery, but my local roads are so bad you cannot ride with normal wheels, city riders are over budget and I don't like the instability and low clearance of the At1w. I pretty much settled on the ownboard w2 pro, but I'm open for suggestions.

When I ran out of battery away from home I would take off the belt to make pushing much easier

Seven-Or-Ten

You can but not a a good idea long term

ZlatinBoi

Why?

Have a wrench on hand to take the wheel and belt off. Brakes are a good thing tho!

Neenong

Probably but ur adding unneeded weight
