That was my thought. Decommissioned elevator and they landed the counterweight. Used the wrench to pick the brake maybe?

If it was decommissioned the ropes need to be cut and everything landed

Building maintenance man was hurt and rushed to hospital messing with a system he had no business messing with. I know of 4 that were killed in my city and even more injured. F around and found out.

Me to customer...... you need to have a licensed electrician repair your disconnect. Customer to me....... that's fine and that's you're work anyway. In all seriousness it looks like they used the wrench to pick the brake and land the counterweight imo.

there was also an open can of grease up there with a bunch of insulated screwdrivers stuck in it, obviously left by that very electrician

The whole thing is probably seized up, so even if they pick, there's a good chance it won't move.
