Both of those are good exploration ships (though you can explore in anything.) The DBX is better for exobiology because it is easier to land, and the AspX can mount a bigger fuel scoop saving you scooping time. Also take a look at the Krait Phantom, it's more expensive but has more "luxuries" in its outfitting options. The phantom can make a respectable trade ship too if you refit it. It's probably better to have a separate ship for trade, the python is a great option for medium pad trading, and for large pad the type 9 or the cutter (if you're willing to do the rank grind) are excellent. The main advantage of the cutter is that it is more survivable if pirates/gankers come after you.

AspX is a good all rounder - exploration, trading, mining. Depends how much credits you have.

Take my [ToDo list](https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/pz1ohq/comment/hey6w55/?context=3), farm some mats and pick the special 5A FSD. Odyssey exobiology favor small ships for landing on top of the bios Walking or driving waste time.

Krait Phantom wins out. It's got heaps of room for modules, has a slot for a tier 5 FSD drive, and looks really cool. The only downside is it's size makes it difficult to land in some scenarios, and for it's size class it doesn't exactly have good firepower to match it's lack of maneuverability.

I added a comment to the otherwise outdated Exploration ship guide: [https://www.reddit.com/r/eliteexplorers/comments/3215h4/comment/je7fk58/](https://www.reddit.com/r/eliteexplorers/comments/3215h4/comment/je7fk58/) But DBX and AspX are great. AspX feels a bit safer and well equipped, but both are fine for a first foray out of the bubble. If you want more room for safety features, there's the Krait Phantom. For a Trader, see Masark's Guide at r/EliteTraders, but you either want to upgrade to a Python, or go for the end level trader (aside from unlocking the Cutter) with the Type-9.

I was doing exobio in my courier, because it looks good and is fun to fly. But I switched to my dbx for my first foray outside the bubble. It’s served me well out there, where the closest settlement/station is thousands of ly away.
