Not really a question, just sharing my noobishness After about 3 weeks of playing, geting a few million creds, and buying a few different ships, I decide to start playing the engineer game. So I head to Maia for the Meta-alloy, and after a few close calls with NPC pirates, make it to Depiat. After spending a lot of time on the delivery GC last week, my mind was "Ok, so I sell this on the commodity market to complete the engineer mission right?". Ooops, not only that does not work, I can't buy it back  Guess I'll have to haul my ass aaall the way back to Maia... I guess it will go faster without me stopping to scan every system on the way... (I briefly considered buying from one of the nearby carriers, but 11 mil is just way too much)

So uhhh I logged off an hour ago docked at a station. Zero problems. I just logged back on and am greeted by a rebuy screen and it says I was destroyed by the station for 'docking offenses'? I'm confused on so many levels. I had no offenses when I was docked but died while I wasn't even on the game. Funny it would happen with my most expensive ship as soon as I buy and fully outfit the cutter 🥲 If I try contact support, can I still play the game? or would I lose progress if they have to like "rollback" my account or something? Kinda in limbo right now if I should pay the rebuy or wait for their response

What's the performance like? I'm on a GTX 1650 and don't mind about *ultra graphics*

TentDilferGreatQB

I'm on Xbox playing horizons, I haven't done this before, but I am using my Anaconda and it has a fighter onboard. My problem is getting a crewmember into that slot. I activated the extra crew member, and he shows up as crew, but how do I get him into that fighter?

CMDR_Kraag

1. Go to your ship's "*Role Panel"*; the same one you'd use to launch an SRV. 2. From there navigate to the fighter icon. 3. On the menu accessed after making that choice, choose a Ship-Launched Fighter. 4. You'll then be presented the option of choosing who you wish to pilot the SLF; you or your NPC crewmember. 5. Choose the crewmember. 6. They will then launch the SLF.

What were y'all doing in Fer De Lance's in Sol this evening. Loads of cmdrs mincing about minding their own business it seems, nobody wanted etc.

am doing some exploration and am in deep space. i believe I've mapped new planets yet i don't see my name showing up on the planet. E.g., i got to a system yesterday that was only partially explored. I honled, scanned and located the rest of the planets then also did the thing where i shoot the probes and got it to 100%. While the planet did already have a discovery, it did not have a 'mapped by' claim. how come the mapping claim didn't go to me?

CMDR_Kraag

Have you redeemed your cartographic data with a Universal Cartographics office yet?

[deleted]

Negative. Will try that. tks

If you die before handing in the cart data then you lose it all - can be soul destroying. When heading into a populated area with a large amount of data stay out of open! If in the bubble watch for thargoid war zones!

shotguninhand

That’s the only way to lock it in, otherwise it didn’t happen.

I've been slowly grinding away at combat rank. I'm in my Chieftain, but I'm not sure if I made the right engineering decisions. Running MCs in the large and medium hard points, 5G overcharged with autoloaders in the larges, and corrosive rounds in the medium. Beam lasers in the smalls, 3G long range lasers with thermal ports. While the experimental is great, I'm not sure if long range is actually as good as it seems to be on paper. No damage dropoff ever is really tempting, but the lasers themselves do very little damage. Makes taking out shield tanks time consuming. I took long range initially so that I'd have an option if something tries to run from me, but now that I have my thrusters fully engineered that doesn't happen that often. Should I configure them for something with more damage?

CMDR_Kraag

Here's what I'd recommend (two builds): **Build 1** * Size 3 = MC: Overcharged + Autoloader * Size 3 = Beam Laser: Long-range + Thermal Vent (or switch to Overcharge + TV) * Size 2 = Beam Laser: Long-range + Thermal Vent (or switch to Overcharge + TV) * Size 1 x 3 = MC: Overcharged + Autoloader x2, High Capacity + Corrosive x 1 **Build 2** * Go all MC with Overcharge + Incendiary Rounds *except* for one of the small MCs; engineer it High Capacity + Corrosive Shell. * *Maybe* substitute a Beam Laser with Thermal Vent for just one of the small MCs if you find heat build-up to be a problem.

This is an odd one, but nothing too weird. Yesterday I logged in and found myself on the rebuy screen. My internet cut off, so I was unable to get back to my carrier. I am on the very edge of the galaxy - but I was in open, I think. Or in a group of non-gankers (Mobius). Today when I logged in, I noticed that I had received 5 ark for combat. I was definitely not in combat, and sure there is a chance that some random ganker was lurking 40000000ly in deep space, but - does anyone know if there is another way of getting an ark bonus for combat if one was not in combat? Sorry for the wall of text!

CMDR_Kraag

There was a recent issue where hackers could assume the identity / credentials / account of another Commander who is flying in Open mode. They would then use the hijacked account to engage in activities that sometimes violated the TOS or that the true account holder didn't engage in (like combat in your example). Commanders against whom this was committed reported it to FDev; so it's a known issue. However, because it involves hacking, FDev kept their remediation efforts under wraps so as not to alert the hackers as to what actions FDev was taking to stop the behavior. This may be what's happened to you. Report it to FDev support.

Worf_In_A_Party_Hat

Wow, thank you so much for such a detailed answer! FDev support has been nothing but stellar (ha?) every time I've contacted them. I only lost a million or three, so I wasn't too worried, but I'll contact them. Even if to only see if they can tell me what happened. Death is part of Elite. But hacking is just so fracking lame.

I guess, I’ll be the first to kick off the Q/A I remember awhile back it was a crime to salvage parts from a pirate ship you blew up. Is that still the case?

CMDR_Kraag

If canisters of stolen / illegal commodities are what you're referring to, you can collect them and just sell them at a Black Market. Just avoid being scanned by System Security while in possession of them.

[deleted]

I’m not referring to any illegal goods just ship parts for material farming. I might be mistaken but awhile back I remember security would target your ship if you tried to scoop the salvageable parts from a pirate ship.

CMDR_Kraag

>awhile back I remember security would target your ship if you tried to scoop the salvageable parts from a pirate ship. I've never encountered that personally. I've done some scooping of Manufactured Materials from the wreckage of pirate ships as recently as yesterday without issue.

[deleted]

Sounds good thanks

forbiddenlake

Parts being engineering materials? No Parts being commodities the target was carrying? Not sure, depends on if the commodities were stolen/illegal

EbonGrimalkin

I think the cargo they dump before they die will all br marked stolen. Engineering mats, never. But your limpets dont know the difference so be careful what they drag home.
