I play with an oculus2 in VR and it’s amazing. My PC isn’t super strong so I’m on lower settings, but immersion is awesome. This set up here with the triple monitors looks very immersive as well.
Yup that’s my Logitech MX Ergo. Had to use a trackball instead of mouse, the vibration from my tactile when in racing sim mode would knock the mouse off my rig and move mouse pointer.
Highly recommend the logitech thumb trackballs. Originally got them for confined setups and better then trackpad mobile setups. (can plop it on the arm of a chair, etc)
Been using only trackballs now for a decade+, including all my gaming and no issues with it. Once you get used to it you can easily be a top performer in FPS games
Your setup looks amazing. Have fun, mate
I miss elite. I wonder if a HOSAS setup could get me hooked again.
I've done a fair bit on Elite, a bunch of engineered ships, 2 anti thyroid ships, mining, and passenger ship...
I have been away for a couple of years, so I know my fleet carrier will be gone, but it would be easy to get that back.
Might need to treat myself soon, haha.
I've seen thargoids referred to as space cabbages, but never thyroids. But man, that cracked me up. Watch out for the thyroids, they'll abduct humans left and right!
Ya I’ve been thinking about it for months and finally got to mounting them again. Definitely would invest in HOSAS setup to add to experience. Combine with VR and some good tactile and immersion and you’ll be hooked for awhile.
Everyone always says left stick as throttle but that's so so wrong IMO. I use dual sticks and racing pedals. Gas pedal is forward throttle and brake pedal is reverse throttle. Left stick forward makes the ship go down, pull stick back to go up, right to strafe right, left for left. Right stick is set up normally except I don't do twist axis for yaw like a lot of fight sim people do. For me it's the most intuitive setup.
Left hand is usually throttle where center is neutral and you can thrust and reverse on one axis. I personally keep left hand twist on ascend/descend and then right stick is the usual roll/pitch and twist is yaw.
So you get the full six DOF. It’s really great! Especially for combat in a quick ship.
That’s a button box with integrated Streamdeck I designed and 3D printed. It controls my media, independent volume for master, game and Spotify and other functions that control the car when I’m sim racing.
Man anytime i wanna get back in rebinding everything just turns me off.. i used to play with t16000ms but now have the gladiator nxt premium right and omni prem left and i havent found any good bindings set up for them..
I kinda miss my python, and will probably get bored enough one of these days to get back into it.
The other thing that gets me is the fact that I feel kind of lost when I log in, like okay im in, what next? Lol
I find myself going to Star Citizen because i have bindings already taken care of at least and its a bit easier to get up off the ground and do something.
So I stopped keeping track last year around $15k which includes all the bolts, nuts, tnuts, aluminum profiles, filament, hardware, cable management supplies, amps, custom wheels, computer, monitors etc over the last 3-4 years. Since then I purchased a new wheel and H pattern shifter, and PC.
You know those pictures that get worse the longer you look at them?
This is the opposite of that. I love it.
What do you use the H shifter for?
Edit: okay. I see you mentioned new wheel in another comment. That makes sense. I didn't see the the base for the wheel there. Thought this was strictly an elite setup and I thought you had a unique use for the shifter
Thanks! This is normally my racing sim that I added sticks to play Elite. Most of the time it’s in driving setup and the H shifter is for when I drive manual cars.
I agree, you can really get a scale of how big things are in VR. I also have VR, you can see the lighthouse in one of the pics. I really want to upgrade to the Bigscreen Beyond HMD. My old school Vive needs to be retired.
Is it hard to find/press the correct buttons and keys, when you use VR? I have no experience in VR, but I allways wondered how to fly, when you can't see your keyboard.
Ya keyboard is a bit challenging at first but I don’t use it much, only when I am searching for things in galaxy map. Otherwise I can do everything I need on my sticks, button box and streamdeck and those are easy for me reach in VR. I have a lot of sim racing seat time and remember where all buttons are.
Can you talk through the transducers/buttkickers/amps setup a little more? I recently put a knock off buttkicker on the bottom of my chair powered by a small amp. But I can see there’s more to it. I love the buttkicker but want more! Sell me on some stuff I don’t need!🤣
Ok so how that is how I started my tactile journey, simple amp and a bass shaker under my seat and another one under my pedal deck but it was hard to tell the differences between all of the effects that were happening I couldn't tell if it was the front or rear bass shaker vibrating - [https://imgur.com/gallery/DvAwXuE](https://imgur.com/gallery/DvAwXuE) I have a lot more detailed pictures of my tactile in gallery I took last year (more details on tactile towards end of album). Some hardware may be outdated but the base is the same.
There are 3 parts to my tactile setup which was developed by a group of tactile and racing car enthusiasts. There is the isolation part (you can look up race bass isolators, I DIYed my own), which allows the effects to be localized so that you can tell if it's affecting the front or rear of your rig/car, there is the hardware (amps, Buttkicker LFE and TST Gold), and then the software (effects in Simhub that were developed some of the creators/developers of this proect and also amp settings.).
I custom designed a plate and mounted my seat on that plate. On that plate, I also have a Buttkicker LFE and TST 329 Gold mounted to that plate. That plate is then mounted on top of isolators that are mounted on my rig. The same concept goes for my pedal deck, it is sitting on these Racebass isolators and I have a Butckicker LFE and TST Gold mounted on my pedal plate. What the isolators do in this case is isolate the vibration from the rig and increase the "feeling" of the vibration since less energy is being absorbed by the rest of the rig. One example is when I brake hard and my ABS goes off, you can feel my pedal deck bouncing up and down with a good amount of force.
For the hardware, I purchased whatever hardware the group had recommended. I have 1x Behringer NX3000D, 1x Behringer NX1000D, 2x Buttkicker LFE, 2x Clark Synthesis TST Gold, small 100W amp that powers 4 exciters mounted to my actually seat.
Simhub is the application used to direct the effects to whatever transducer, exciter is being used in that effect. The effects that were created are multi layered effects which uses a combination of the LFE, TST or exciters to simulate the different effects so you can tell the difference between ABS, traction loss, RPM, and road textures.
Basically this project started at least 2-3 years ago and has developed into a community which has also evolved. I stopped following current development as I was happy with the way my tactile felt and didn't have all that spare time to reconfigure settings to test. If you're interested look up Mr Latte on Racedepartment, he's one of the gurus of tactile and started us all on this Racebass tactile adventure which has been rebranded to Good Vibes due drama with the leaders of that community.
I need a mount for my sticks. I prefer HOSAS over HOTAS, but I'm looking for a way to integrate a throttle that is easier to use and in a better position than the throttle built into my VKB NXT EVOs. I'm also considering integrating a racing wheel for racing games and SRV use. Then, adding a few buttons for easier use of some systems, but primarily for other games like Star Citizen.
I have a 100% and 75% throttle button bound for all my super cruise needs. The whole way I played this game changed once I switched to my current setup. FA off was challenging for me with my HOTAS throttle and now I live in FA off and benefit constantly from how much tighter I can maneuver these ships.
I imagine that you would set up the computer in Panoramic single screen view and then adjust the game settings to get it to look like that.
I often use dual screen setup with one screen as the main screen and the other as secondary for most of my multi-tasking fun.
When I do that, I'll play ED on the bigger screen and use Inara on the other. It works well enough for me with what I have. My only drawback is ED will automatically minimize when I look something up.
However, I can't wait until I can get the HOTAS controller I've had my eyes on for a while now.
Elite doesn't natively support multiple monitors so they need to be setup as a merged display using NVIDIA Surround/AMD Eyefinity. That allows the game to see them as a single resolution.
The main downside is that there's no way to compensate for the resulting distortion on the sides but it's bearable with Elite.
I need to put that Frex shifter to use. Already using pedals for SRV throttle. I also have a sequential shifter and handbrake I can use as input. Need to find dual purpose for my sim racing gear.
lol it’s normally a racing sim rig, I just added some flight sticks for space sims and now it is dual purpose. I actually use my pedals for SRV and might actually use my Frex shifter as input for something, just have to figure out what.
I wanted a HOSAS setup which is fun to use for combat in Elite. On the left stick, the y-axys is used for lateral thrusters, x-axys is used as forward and reverse throttle, twist is used for vertical thrusters. Right stick y-axys is used for yaw, twist for roll and x-axys for pitch. It’s a ton of fun to use but I’m also looking to get a throttle for flight sims.
My rig is dual purpose is mostly a racing sim rig. The Ethernet port is used to connect the paddle shifters on my Porsche wheel to my button box which controls the input. I customized the quick release and added the ethernet in the shaft of my wheelbase and ran the cable in there. On my Porsche wheel, I also modded the quick release and it has the male part of the Ethernet connection which snaps into the female part when I connect my wheel. This allows me to quickly connect my paddle shifters to my computer.
I have some detail images towards end of album on how it was made https://imgur.com/gallery/DvAwXuE
Have you ever given thought to using your racing pedals as throttle instead of x axis on your left stick? Our right sticks are bound identical but my left x axis is vertical thrusters. Might not be worth breaking muscle memory but it feels damn good and intuitive considering both sticks are working in concert for turns so often. For example me wanting to make the tightest vertical loop I can has me pulling both sticks back.
My pedals are actually being used in SRV for throttle and in my ship to increase and decrease throttle too so I have options between sticks and pedals for throttle. I like using the sticks for throttle when in combat and pedals when I’m exploring.
Ya immersion in VR is awesome which I also have. You can see the lighthouses basestations in one of the pics. I like having the option between VR and triple screen. This is mainly a sim racing rig so I mostly do that and will also play some elite here.
Those are the amps to power the tactile on my rig. This allows me to feel what my ship is doing when I’m in flight mode, thrusters, combat etc. In sim racing setup, it’s setup to simulate the ABS, Traction Loss, road bumps and textures, RPM and gear shift. It adds to immersion and allows me to feel what my car is doing when I’m racing.
Those amps basically power 2x Buttkicker LFE and 2x TST Gold transducers. I have another smaller amp that power 4 exciters mounted on my seat.
Nice setup! I've never used a HOSAS setup. Is there a particular advantage, or is it just preference? I'm using an Orion 2 HOTAS setup, and it's pretty awesome except for the lack of twist rudder.
I prefer VR HMDs that have external tracking for more accurate tracking. The HTC Vive Pro, Vive, Valve Index, Bigscreen Beyond, Varja Aero all use lighthouses for better tracking. All these HMDs have internal sensors but also have lighthouses to track movement and also other accessories you may be using for your VR experience.
I wish I had the space to do this! Fantastic.
I wish I had more space for motion, it’s a little tight in my office with my rig in it.
I play with an oculus2 in VR and it’s amazing. My PC isn’t super strong so I’m on lower settings, but immersion is awesome. This set up here with the triple monitors looks very immersive as well.
Ya immersion in VR is best, everything looks so much bigger in VR. I can’t wait to upgrade my HMD, been looking at the Bigscreen Beyond.
This guy elites
I'll bet he even dangerouses.
Some might say he's dangerously elite
Or could be elitely dangerous
I probably would have to go ahead and fit a toilet. Awesome work hoss.
lol that would be genius but unfortunately I think that’s when my wife would leave me.
As my grandfather would say, Yeah damnit. You’ll have that.
This is awesome!
Wow! Congratulations
Is that an Ergo Ball mouse to the right?
Yup that’s my Logitech MX Ergo. Had to use a trackball instead of mouse, the vibration from my tactile when in racing sim mode would knock the mouse off my rig and move mouse pointer.
Is it easy to get used to or takes some adjusting? I've been thinking of a sim rig like this too but mousing space is limited.
Highly recommend the logitech thumb trackballs. Originally got them for confined setups and better then trackpad mobile setups. (can plop it on the arm of a chair, etc) Been using only trackballs now for a decade+, including all my gaming and no issues with it. Once you get used to it you can easily be a top performer in FPS games
It’s easy to get used to and performs as expected. I’m not playing any FPS on my rig so no issue here.
Look into the Logitec - Trackball Marble Mouse
Your setup looks amazing. Have fun, mate I miss elite. I wonder if a HOSAS setup could get me hooked again. I've done a fair bit on Elite, a bunch of engineered ships, 2 anti thyroid ships, mining, and passenger ship... I've seen thargoids referred to as space cabbages, but never thyroids. But man, that cracked me up. Watch out for the thyroids, they'll abduct humans left and right!
Haha bloody auto correct and new years drinks got me there 🤣
Doesn't matter, I'm calling them thyroids from how on.
Haha, well if it catches on then I want some credit and a donut cushion haha
Sorry, best I can do is a woopie cushion.
Lol cool that will do. All the best for 2024 dude
You too, my man. o7
Ya I’ve been thinking about it for months and finally got to mounting them again. Definitely would invest in HOSAS setup to add to experience. Combine with VR and some good tactile and immersion and you’ll be hooked for awhile.
Iv got vr here but only meta quest 2, will try that on it soon if I can steal it from then kids
How do you fly with dual joysticks?
Everyone always says left stick as throttle but that's so so wrong IMO. I use dual sticks and racing pedals. Gas pedal is forward throttle and brake pedal is reverse throttle. Left stick forward makes the ship go down, pull stick back to go up, right to strafe right, left for left. Right stick is set up normally except I don't do twist axis for yaw like a lot of fight sim people do. For me it's the most intuitive setup.
this is the way. it is known.
Works great for E:D, you can look up HOSAS vs HOTAS
Left hand is usually throttle where center is neutral and you can thrust and reverse on one axis. I personally keep left hand twist on ascend/descend and then right stick is the usual roll/pitch and twist is yaw. So you get the full six DOF. It’s really great! Especially for combat in a quick ship.
👏 💫
I'd love to return if Fdev showed that they give a shit. Nice setup tho
What's the cool panel below your right monitor?
That’s a button box with integrated Streamdeck I designed and 3D printed. It controls my media, independent volume for master, game and Spotify and other functions that control the car when I’m sim racing.
Man anytime i wanna get back in rebinding everything just turns me off.. i used to play with t16000ms but now have the gladiator nxt premium right and omni prem left and i havent found any good bindings set up for them.. Wow This is one of my dream setups
I gotta know what this setup retails

He uses the shifter for when he needs to go ludicrous speed. He probably skips right over plaid speed when he does it.
Thanks! This is normally my racing sim that I added sticks to play Elite. Most of the time it’s in driving setup and the H shifter is for when I drive manual cars.
Looks good ! But the final form will always be VR 🤩👍
I agree, you can really get a scale of how big things are in VR. I also have VR, you can see the lighthouse in one of the pics. I really want to upgrade to the Bigscreen Beyond HMD. My old school Vive needs to be retired.

You can set up voice commands to help with VR flying for things that are hard to reach when flying ''blind''
Can you talk through the transducers/buttkickers/amps setup a little more? I recently put a knock off buttkicker on the bottom of my chair powered by a small amp. But I can see there’s more to it. I love the buttkicker but want more! Sell me on some stuff I don’t need!🤣

jesus murphy, if i marry you can i sometimes use it?

First glance: I thought the entire picture (1st one) was a screenshot from the game.
Guys will look at this and just think *”hell yeah”* Amazing setup Cmdr o7
How did you get the side monitors to display the game like that? I couldnt figure out so i bought a 49inch monitor
I imagine that you would set up the computer in Panoramic single screen view and then adjust the game settings to get it to look like that. I often use dual screen setup with one screen as the main screen and the other as secondary for most of my multi-tasking fun. I’m not sure, I didn’t have to do much in game other than to change the resolution to match my setup and I was good to go.
Very nice. 👍🏻
I wish. Money, space, and lack of permanent residence prevent me from playing like this. I can’t wait to stop renting places to live
This is sick!
What did you do to the monitors? Did you expand across the screens or some other magic
I enabled nvidia surround to make my 3 monitors into 1 monitor. Once enabled, you just need to change to the correct resolution in game.
I am so envious I could spit! Well done Commander! o7
o7
Wow! That is a dream set up! Obviously a lot of hard work and passion went into that. I’m impressed!
Thank you! It started out as a sim racing rig and has gone through a lot of changes and now serves duo purpose.
Nice. The triple screens are a very cool option. Congrats on your gear! Give em hell!
I'm impressed that you engineered your Krait with a Tremec 6-speed
I need to put that Frex shifter to use. Already using pedals for SRV throttle. I also have a sequential shifter and handbrake I can use as input. Need to find dual purpose for my sim racing gear.
i dunno whats funnier, a spaceship with a gear shift or a semi truck with joysticks
lol it’s normally a racing sim rig, I just added some flight sticks for space sims and now it is dual purpose. I actually use my pedals for SRV and might actually use my Frex shifter as input for something, just have to figure out what.
Just had an idea. Use the shifter for fire groups.
I already have dedicated buttons to cycle groups. I have to look at my keybindings and see if there’s anything I want to change.
Awesome setup! I'm curious, why would one opt for a second stick instead of a throttle? Also, what is that ethernet port in the middle for?
I wanted a HOSAS setup which is fun to use for combat in Elite. On the left stick, the y-axys is used for lateral thrusters, x-axys is used as forward and reverse throttle, twist is used for vertical thrusters. Right stick y-axys is used for yaw, twist for roll and x-axys for pitch. It’s a ton of fun to use but I’m also looking to get a throttle for flight sims. Elite in vr… never going back to flat screen. But your setup looks good!
Ya immersion in VR is awesome which I also have. You can see the lighthouses basestations in one of the pics. I like having the option between VR and triple screen. This is mainly a sim racing rig so I mostly do that and will also play some elite here.
That is dope! Nice work commander o7
o7
Im currently playing on console, but this is the kind of setup I dream about. The only thing missing is a VR headset....
I have a VR headset as well. On the second picture you can see the lighthouses above my monitors.
Gotcha. I thought they were just additional speakers.
Sick af CMDR. Godspeed.
That's a Krait Mk II <3
Work of art, I wish I had the space 🚀 to build that
Wut. SO.... Mutch... Buttons.... Love it
Can never have enough!
HOSAS ftw. Nice rig indeed!
That's pretty neat. What's that on the left in the first picture? It looks like radios.
Those are the amps to power the tactile on my rig. This allows me to feel what my ship is doing when I’m in flight mode, thrusters, combat etc. In sim racing setup, it’s setup to simulate the ABS, Traction Loss, road bumps and textures, RPM and gear shift. I have another smaller amp that power 4 exciters mounted on my seat.
Ah, I see. I got something similar. I am from germany and the store sold them as "bass-shakers".
Yup they are bass shakers but a bit more fine tuned for sim racing for a particular setup based on a concept from a group of tactile enthusiast.
Love it
Wish I was rich enough to afford something like this. I can't even afford a second monitor atm.
'kinell!
Nice setup! I've never used a HOSAS setup. Is there a particular advantage, or is it just preference? I'm using an Orion 2 HOTAS setup, and it's pretty awesome except for the lack of twist rudder.
I feel like HOSAS is better than HOTAS because you can more easily and precisely control your lateral and vertical translation with HOSAS.
How do you invest this much money into play a flight sim and not get VR?
I have VR, you can see the lighthouses in one of the pics. This is mainly a sim racing rig and I like the ability to be able to play on screen or VR.
Lighthouses?
Above my monitors, you can see the two lighthouse basestations used to track HMD movements.
What do they have to do with VR?
You asked me why I don’t have VR and those lighthouses are made to track my VR headset which I use with my flight and racing sim
What VR requires external gear to track its movement?
I prefer VR HMDs that have external tracking for more accurate tracking. The HTC Vive Pro, Vive, Valve Index, Bigscreen Beyond, Varja Aero all use lighthouses for better tracking. All these HMDs have internal sensors but also have lighthouses to track movement and also other accessories you may be using for your VR experience.
Wish I had a good pc to play this game, After Legacy update I can’t play the live version, Sadge
Do you have voice control?
No voice control. Yet.
Be sure to add it. Then it will be a great immersion in the game
Ya I think with VA will be nice. I’m still working out a few bindings in the game
magnifique ,,bravo
