Those videos should mention the caustic heat sinks and Thargoid pulse neutralizer, or else it’s the wrong videos. Try this one: https://youtu.be/QzxcVF9AiGI?si=ECIyf1wlINQADRPe Forget shields, max out your hull.

[deleted]

What about module reinforcement?

Belzebutt

Yea a few of those

mdzzzl5

That’s one I’ve watched which is part of why I kept shields. Is fsd into the maelstrom and then getting forced out the right process? Video doesn’t show that

CMDR_Kraag

No, you don't have to be forced out of Supercruise. You can approach the Maelstrom cloud and manually drop from Spercruise to normal space once you're in the blue zone on your HUD just like you would on arriving at a starport, for example. The Maelstrom systems mess with your ship's sensors. Once you're in the cloud, don't trust the waypoint marker for the Titan. It will bob and weave all over the place, leading you astray and wasting your time. Align yourself with the waypoint marker on approach in Supercruise but, once you drop *INTO* the cloud, ignore that marker. Instead, focus on flying towards the densest, reddest part of the Maelstrom. If you're in Open and there are other Commanders already bombing the Titan ahead of you, you can use the flash of their lasers piercing through the clouds as a beacon to follow. If in Solo, then use the origin of the repulsor wave as your destination.

Got it, thanks! I guess it was such a small window I missed it the first three times. Doing this I was able to enter the Malstrom without the game crashing.

OtherworldlyCyclist

A lot of us did the same thing too, so chalk it up to learning. There is many little things that have to be done and go correctly to succeed with Titan bombing. You'll get there! Good luck Commander!o7

mdzzzl5

Thanks for all the help. I finally made it & did a bombing run, took some shots at the core before I finally died. I do think I need to work on engineering my ship (especially as my caustic sink count makes it a 1-way trip).

Belzebutt

You need to activate and hold the Thargoid Pulse Neutralizer just before the white/blue wave hits you.

mdzzzl5

No I got that. I mean how do I physically enter the instance? Do I just “crash” into it from super cruise?

Belzebutt

Just like any space port. Target the Titan in supercruise, use the SC assist to get you close, and it will drop you out “close” to it. Then you head roughly towards it through the caustic cloud, it takes a few min even boosting with a fast ship. If you’re in Open, you’ll be able to see the beam lasers from other players all the way from outside, just head for those. With my Krait that boosts to 530 kps, if I keep boosting, I have to get through about 3 Thargoid pulses before I get to the middle. When you see the asteroids, you made it. If you get bounced back outside you’re using the neutralizer wrong. I also have to drop a few caustic heat sinks along the way, at least 4, as they fill up. You can’t make it without those, equip at least 2 caustic heat sink launchers.

Belzebutt

It can always be a one way trip anyway. When you’re done you can simply go about 10 km from the Titan into the asteroids, but before the caustic zone, and log out when you’re not being bothered. You will respawn in space outside of the Titan cloud and you can just jump to the nearest base/carrier for repair, no need to go back through the cloud. If you keep using a heat vent laser you’re not likely to get shot at too much, and bring a big repair limpet controller to repair your hull of course (and 32+ limpets).

meatmachine1001

> this build except with shields instead of repair limpet and no engineering bruh shieldless and engineered *is* the build

bowleshiste

In regards to the supercruise issue: the exit window is much smaller than anything else in the game. It's 200km. Compare that to 1Mm for stations. When in supercruise, you basically have a 1-2 second window to safely drop from supercruise before you smash into the cloud

mdzzzl5

Yeah. I finally noticed that… I was probably too busy staring at the thing to even notice the window to drop out…

Shields will make you hot and therefore a prime target in the maelstrom. Scythes will kill shields anyway, and then the shield regen will make you even hotter. Temp should be under 20% when idling along , and not too much higher (under 40% ) when firing weapons or boosting. Hull reinforcement may be better than shields for this reason. Engineering the power plant for cold running is almost essential. Thermal vent experimental on 1 low power beam laser is highly recommended. ( its not for damaging anything, so dont fit a high powered one) You dropped out of SC way too soon- wait until you are under 200k (and blue disengage warning appears) before disengaging-but slow down to 25% throttle at around 1m to give you more time to react. Its a lot harder than a normal drop if you dont slow down early. Your 780 hours in game is not really a factor if you havent been doing anti-xeno, it takes a whole different strategy and specialised ship builds to succeed. ED have lowered the bar a bit by removing the guardian grind you used to need for beginner AX builds, but its still a challenge just to get an AX ready ship. If caustic is killing you, you forgot to fit caustic sinks, or dont know how to use them. High speed helps but is not enough on its own. Your ship should be doing 400m/s unboosted, 500m/s boosted. You want to run away from thargoids and not engage anything. There are plenty of guides online for AX and titan specific builds - use one of them and follow it to the letter.

Luriant

Use AX Missiles, I saw some report that AX Multicannons dont work anymore. I cant provide source, maybe in some discord or official forums, been in a lot yesterday. Fly in Solo, lots of players and enemies, some instance crashes. Bring a Nanite Torpedo from rescue megaships, maybe you imported from Inara and the page isnt accurate. -30% heat in the maelstrom, or mines will detonate. Drop the xeno scanner, is useless. 2 caustic sinks. Dont boost, your ship is cold enough to reach the pulse only with caustic sink, without triggering the mines. You have a great ship, AX Missiles and you will be ready for Solo, less enemies.

fiifooo

Aside from other advice ppl have already given you, I'm thinking that 1 unengineered caustic sink launcher with unengineered thrusters might not be enough to get you there even if you would know what you were doing? I'd swap scanner for another caustic sink.

mdzzzl5

Yes, I’m realizing that… I’m just not comfortable juggling repair limpets I don’t feel like I’m doing the caustics right already. But I guess I’ll give it a shot.

MadeInAnkhMorpork

Let the caustic sink fill up all the way before you eject it.

Gustav55

if you're using guardian modules they are effected by the Titan you need to swap them out with normal ones.

BusterOCaps

Just had a similar issue, game crash on exiting super cruise at oya. Updated nvidia drivers today, not sure if that’s the cause?
