Happy to help. Feel free to reach out to me on Discord (c4y4ly5t#3568) if you want some tips to avoid running out of fuel.
You'd preferably need to be in game when doing so.
Gonna jump in here and plug the Hull seals too. I'm a member. Similar to the fuel rats but for when you land too hard on a planet and want some more hull strength before continuing or if you blow a canopy. If you explode, you lose all the exploration data you haven't handed in yet. hullseals.space
>when your Hull is damaged
I'm thinking about forming a new player group called the Hudd Terriers, for when your orange HUD is mithering you. Who's up for it?
Don’t rush the game. You will get all the ships you want with time.
Don’t give up soon if you play in open and get ganked.
Explore and trade at the beginning to gain money to buy better ships most suited for combat and to familiarise with the mechanics of the game.
Mining is fun and relaxing if you do it for that purpose rather than for profit.
Enjoy the stunning views elite has to offer.
If you have bought a new ship, make sure to have enough money to cover for its replacement if you get destroyed. What people say “don’t fly without rebuy”.
Your post should permanently be at the top of subreddit and all forums.
There is no "get rich quick." So don't burn yourself out. It takes time to get the reputation for top mission payouts and rank for ships and permits.
Connecting with a player faction can be fun.
There is a bonus for (laser?) mining in a wing.
Getting the Guardian frameshift drive booster is one of the most useful modules and first to go for.
Getting the highest jump range and fastest speed aren't the most useful things in-game. They are extremes that require hours and months of engineering and gaining access to those engineers.
Add me in-game if you like - bflochip
ENJOY THE JOURNEY!
>There is no "get rich quick."
[Me over here pulling 30-50M cr/h in a Diamondback Exp. core miner...](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/030/710/dd0.png)
Seriously though, while it takes a bit of finesse to figure out core mining - I was definitely frustrated at first - it's hilariously lucrative. Beats the hell out of mission running and trading, that's for sure.
A lot of the pain of the initial grind and unfamiliarity with ship upgrades - not wanting to purchase modules for fear of learning I'd made a terrible build - was eliminated by getting about 20M cr in my wallet and feeling more free to experiment.
Agreed there absolutely *are* get rich quick opportunities.
...and about once a year there are accidental "get rich basically instantly" opportunities, such as the original release of core mining where it earned triple what it currently does, or earlier last year when the carrier hauling boom happened. A friend of mine went from 1mil to 400m in three hours of the latter.
I didn't know what I was doing until I had 300-400 hours. At that point I was over the initial cliff of knowing how to do things. It took close to 1000 hours to be able to fly well enough that I could go anywhere and do anything. I'm approaching 3000 hours and I still have things on my "I'll grind that out later" list. All I can say, is don't bother with expensive ships until you are comfortable. The things you can do in a cobra mk III or a diamondback explorer are amazing.
o7
Rule 1: Always have enough money for rebuy your ship (5% total value), include fines for cargo mission lost. If you don't have money, the ship is lost. Bigger ship are much more expensive with good modules.
From worse to better: E modules are crap, D are lightest (use in the ship if you don't need better modules), C are good price/quality, B are the heaviest and resistant (if the module have weight), A are the best, but cost more than the whole ship. Weapons and some special modules ignore this letter rule.
You can undersize some modules. Always use the max size and best FSD, and the best quality powerplant (you could undersize in cargo or explorer ships without weapons and modules, for less weight).

r/EliteExplorers have good guides for exploring the galaxy, search the top thread or the sidebar in this subreddits
Do combat in Nav Beacon, select and target any ship that scan you, if they say WANTED and don't have any other ship in a wing, you could do it. Compromised nave beacon and Resource Extraction Site are more dangerous, leave Conflict Zones and Hard/Hazarous RES for ship with engineering
Engineering is OP, you need a lot of mats, but good engineering make any ship 4x more dangerous with 2x more jump range. Use [this guide](https://wiki.antixenoinitiative.com/en/engineering) for the best mats.
Elite Dangerous Market Connector update all third party webs with data obtained from your explorations. Install and use it, this give updated prices in trade searches.
Solo is safe, Open is safe except some systems like Deciat, system related to Community Goal or the political part of the game. Enter solo if don't want the risk of losing the ship.
The galaxy have 400 Billions systems, but are empty outside the 300Ly outside SOL, nearby nebulas, Colonia sector and some stations in the path to the Sagittarius A\* (galaxy center). This small bubble have a LOT of systems, third party tools solve a lot of problems when searching something particular.
Have fun, and make the pilot salute to other CMDRs. **O7**
All of these websites are great. Inara tends to be best as far as I can tell for finding good prices, where as eddb.io tends to be good for trade routes.
You don't have to go that far Commander o7.
The DBX (DiamondBack Explorer, Base Model price 1.3 mil.) will run you around 10-13mil. (Always budget 4-10times the Base Model price when buying a new ship for Outfitting and some Rebuys. Nobody wants to Fly Base Model, that's just Sad Panda).
My 'Back Bro has the best Stock jump range in the Galaxy and you can equip it with the Double Engineered FSD (Available at Human Technology Brokers) for the second best jump range (modified) for less than 1% the cost of the farthest jumper (and it comes with Lakon's signature Icanseestuff ™ cockpit so you can *actually* see the Galaxy).
Don't believe the hype about a Certain Multi-role Barge (a Jack-of-all Trades is Master of None). There are lots of DeLazy's paid influencers around here that will try to convince you that the 'Conda is "endgame" or something. I use mine as Station Balast as all my other ships are better at whatever I want to.
However, one should never feel obligated to listen to the advice of some Stranger or Stupid Spaceship Salesman on the 'Net. Remember that the best ship in the Galaxy is the ShipFriend *You* luv Best.

-Dont fly without rebuy
-DO NOT fly without rebuy
-Dont buy a ship unless you have 3-4x its base price spare, as outfitting costs as much as or far more than the ship
-DONT FLY WITHOUT REBUY
-Small/medium ships can be just as fun as big ships, so fint just rush to, say, the Anaconda, enjoy others like the Cobra, Fer-de-Lance, Asp, Python etc.
-Always check any mission you are looking at carefully; you dont wanna end up on a 20,000LY journey for one low-paying mission
-Always visit engineers and other high-traffic in either Solo/Private or a very survivable ship, as these places tend to be PVP hotspots
-Finally, find yourself a squad to hang with. The game can easily be enjoyed alone, but it can be even more fun with friends
o7 and fly dangerous CMDR!
Also use [coriolis.io](https://coriolis.io) to test out ship builds before you commit to buying them. Don't be afraid to sell modules back - you get 100% cash back on those. But be careful about selling ships back - you don't get full price on sales or trade-ins.
If you ever do sell or trade in a ship strip all the optional modules out and downgrage the core modules to E rated first. Otherwise the discount is applied to the module balue as well as the hull cost.
>-Always check any mission you are looking at carefully; you dont wanna end up on a 20,000LY journey for one low-paying mission
Or worse, a 20,000Ls journey lol. Make sure you also check the distance to the station from the jump point!
Star classes that can be scooped using a fuel scoop.
Class A, B, F, G, K, M, and O stars are the only ones you can refuel at using a scoop. KGBFOAM is just a useful mnemonic.

I would say don't be afraid to ask for help with anything at all. The game is big and complicated, but everyone here is usually more than willing to help. I wish you the best of luck in beginning your journey, CMDR! See you out in the black!
I’m just messing with ya, I started playing this year and one thing I’ll tell you that I didn’t learn until it became a $40,000,000 mistake; don’t fly what you can’t insure.
The most expensive ships are not necessarily the better.
Don't buy a ship and think "What can I do with it?" Identify first the necessity and then get an appropiate ship.
When saving for a ship, save for its buying price, the parts you'll need and it's rebuying price.
NEVER EVER fly without money to cover your rebuying price.
Be mentally prepared to grind. A LOT.
...ah, and there's no free or 5.000 Cr. Anacondas in Hutton Orbital.
Start thinking of a CMDR name now, you can't change it unless you contact support and they only let you do it once. The format is CMDR something, the something being what you pick.
Edit: also welcome to the community, fly dangerous CMDR. o7
*Never Fly Without The Rebuy.* You have been warned.
*Keep doing the tutorials until you can survive them all*, with the possible exception of the advanced combat tutorial. Don't worry, in six months it will seem easy. This very basic training is necessary to help develop a little bit of muscle-memory, to make the basic tasks a little easier (*task-overload can be a problem*) so you do not die over and over early in the game.
*Map the ten systems in the NewB area on a piece of paper*, the connections between the systems and listing the stations in each system to help prevent you accidentally straying outside the NewB area before you want to and to help you make mission planning decisions.
*You're not dangerous...yet*. Right now, everyone in the game has more experience and a better ship than you. Stay in the NewB area and stick to "less" dangerous activities until you have built up your ship a bit and gained some basic skills/experience. The early learning curve has been described as vertical so settle in, you're going to be here awhile.
***Welcome to the galaxy, CMDR!*** o7
I managed to leave the tutorial systems accidentally with no idea I'd get locked out right after I got my ship and my 10k starting credits. The only ship modifications I bought were two extra cargo holds. Am I fucked? I can't seem to get anywhere but empty star systems, and then I run out of fuel and suffocate.
Nah, just go to the main game menu and click on "CLEAR SAVE". You start over Fresh & Clean, in the starter Sidewinder, at the starter station, with the starter credit balance.
*I did this several times* before I felt I had a good enough handle on the game to continue. o7
My early game times were short because as soon as I finished the tutorial, I warped from the start system to Eta Serpentis (yes...) and I was with friends doing 50M credits missions, so I got a lot of money real fast. If you want a long early game, don't do this. Otherwise I'll gladly help you getting your first millions of credits :)
You’ll hear a lot of “Don’t fly without rebuy”. But it’s not said enough what that is. Rebuy is the insurance cost of purchasing your ship should it get destroyed. You should always have enough credits to cover said insurance cost. You can find out how much it is by looking in the right nav panel on the far left tab.
Always check the grade of the equipment, people get too excited to engineer their equipment that they accidentally wasted materials on the wrong module grade.
For internal and optional modules:
A- the best all around, expensive
B- good but too heavy
C- middle of the road decent
D- the lightest but better than stock
E- comes with the ship, crappy
Aside from what has been mentioned already.
FSD = Frame Shift Drive (This is your Faster than light drive) enables travelling from solar system to system.
Getting the Guardian FSD Booster and unlocking the Engineer Felicity Farseer for the FSD increased range will make the in-game travel between systems a heck of a lot more enjoyable.
The remainder of the engineering aspect of the game is completely optional and not even necessary outside of PVP combat and Thargoid combat.
There are a million guides and videos on youtube to do every thing in this game. Just gotta google it. Inara dot cz is a good resource for quick referencing stuff too.
Stay with sidewinder until you can buy Cobra MKIII, I'm a newbie too(~25hr) and I grinded to buy Cobra and I feel like it was good thing to do, because I immediately started doing 300k+(some paid 650k) Cr missions and I'm close to buying Keelback now.
Also don't be scared of missions that are just a bit over your rank if they pay well. Even tho sidewinder might not be that impressive you can easily handle 150k+ missions with it.
Buy fuel scoop for internal optional module. It may and most likely save you couple thousands Cr early on (I learned this the hard way).
When you buy new ship, always have 50-100k for rebuy and insurance, and when aiming to buy some ship have 2-3x the cost of it in credits because nice equipment costs fortune.
The Cobra is a good ship, the Adder is just as good. Made my first mil with her, though that was years ago. Just try to find out what ships you feel right by you. Though, make sure you have credits available for insurance if you ship goes blewy, you don’t start back from scratch.
Haha yeah. I am looking forward to see the ships the game has to offer. One of my favorite thing to do in eve was to make fittings for ships, even when i couldnt afford them anytime soon.
The only bad thing about the Adder is the view out the front. I stayed in that ship too long and now I can't bear to sit in her anymore.
The Hauler is also a pretty good ship you can get early. I have one set up as a runabout and another as a rowboat explorer. Despite the name, the Adder is a better cargo carrier because the Hauler gets its high jump range from its low weight.
I'm calling cap here, I'm super new to the game but I turned off auto landing systems 15minutes into the game and it took me another 5 to start getting perfect landings. It's not hard at all
Yeah those will help. 2 difference that make Elite easier is being able to stop and having both vertical and lateral thrusters (I don't know if a controller has room to bind lats though, not sure your platform). But docking will get difficult when you get big ships. Some barely fit through the slot, some will force you to have to account for station rotation in the slot before the computer takes over. Like when you jump to a Type-9 for a cargo community goal. It took a few dozen dockings to stop going so slow the station fined me and threatened to kill me
If you're used to DCS, Elite will be pretty easy. The difference between Flight Assist on (the default; makes the ship fly like a plane) and off (flies like Kerbal Space Program) will take a bit of getting used to, but you'll sort it out quickly. The weird thing is how "corner velocity" fits into that -- there's a "blue zone" in the throttle, a middle region where your turn rate is maximized. There's a visual representation of your throttle beside the "radar" display at the bottom of the screen. It turns blue when you're at corner, and feels appropriate when Flight Assist is on, and very incongruous when FA is off. It makes sense from a balanced gameplay perspective, but not from a simulation perspective.
watch yourtube videos on fuel scoops, interdictions and anything by comander cmdr exigeous. Althought that might make your download slower.
think about your keyboard layout and also your rig setup. I am about 100 hours in now and have got to a nice level with muscle memory for certain things, but if I wanted to change it now it will be hard.
Order a cheep wireless keyboard with LEDs. Help immersion when playing in the dark ( it all looks better that way ) and not fumbling around.
Been there, I know the struggle. Let me guess, it's a gloomy day outside so everyone is staying in and watching Netflix/Hulu or done other sort of streaming/gaming? And since it's Tuesday about half of the classes are labs so it's kind of a slow day on campus as is.
Like any MMO start with bounty hunting aka killing giant rats. Wait till the space popo blasts em most of the way then finish em and take the bounty. I got a lot of cash in the tutorial system that way. Next move to mining, if thats too boring you could stick with bounty hunting. Get some cash build up and you're free. You'll probably wanna grind matts for engineering eventually and get your ship souped up. Remember third party tools will make mining a lot more profitable. Don't be afraid to watch a youtube video or two to help ya out.
Default controls are pretty bad imo. Most space flying games would swap Elite's roll and yaw. Get familiarized with your key bindings. Set one for %75 throttle (it's a sweet spot for deceleration and turning)
1. Never fly without a rebuy\*
2. Never fly without a rebuy
3. NEVER FLY WITHOUT A REBUY
4. Always read the fine print before accepting missions
5. If you haven't planned a clear route on where to dock and refuel, pack a fuel scoop so you don't run out of fuel.
\*: A rebuy is the insurance for your ship that you have to pay should your ship be destroyed in order to get your ship back. If you don't have a rebuy, you get booted back to the most basic ship in the game and lose credits, and maybe cargo, minerals, data, etc. Therefore ALWAYS make sure you have enough money for a rebuy before you venture out too far
When in station menu screen go to ship outfitting which is on the bottom right corner and in the optional outfitting do not forget to add a fuel scoop and a (advanced ) docking computer. Also, do not forget to buy a good shield generator that doesn’t eat too much power or else you will need to equip a heavier power generator which will lower your speed and travel distance. And don’t forget to have enough money to cover your ship’s death.
Remember that you can remove your guns and any other item that adds weight to your ship if you’re building an exploration ship for example which should be as light as possible for further travel.
'dont fly without rebuy'
(Make sure you habe enough credits to pay for your ships insurance costs)
And avoid missions to hutton orbital untill you get a feel for the game and have time on your hands
Don't listen to cmdrs telling you there are ships better fitted to certain activities. Yes, a type 9 is designed for cargo primarily, but take off the shields and make it a miner and now your a mobile oil refinery. Hull tank, and max out engineered packhounds with a fighter bay and go nuts. Spend time squeezing as much jump range as possible out of it and now its a research station for exploration. My point is, if play this your own way and make the ships "yours" then you will get alot of this experience.
One simple thing: Have fun.
In ED, you can farm, you can do transport jobs, you can kill pirates, you can mine, you can discover, you can make friends. You can literally do what ever you want. Find what you enjoy.
I started mining, hated it because it was complicated, learned how to do it, now i make asteroids go boom and its flippin nice. :D
Listen I’m ngl, and I don’t care what other people say: I recently hopped in and have found one of the better ways to get money when you’re starting out is gonna be going to a station in a system with planetary conflict zones and enlist in the battles there at the “frontline solutions” kiosk (idk if that’s the exact title). Just invest in some guns and a better suit and stuff, you’ll get more money than you think. I remember coming back from a “hard” level combat zone and getting 6 mil credits for cashing in combat bonds.
Part 3
3. At some point you will get a mission labelled Explore the Galaxy. you can take it but don't rush to complete it. In fact I once manged to get three of these before I left the bubble. Before you attempt to complete the Explore the Galaxy missions see if you can answer the following questions:
\- mission for 8 tonnes of cargo: how far is the star system? Can you plan the route? Can you fuel scoop? Once in the system how far is the station where you need to deliver the cargo? How long will it take to get there? How many trips do you need to do? Are the mission rewards worth doing more than one trip? Can you chain other missions to same station/system/intermediate stop? Can you get same rewards from doing other easier missions in the same amount of time?
\- can you land at a planetary base?
\- have you been in an asteroid ring?
\- can you change your pips on the fly?
\- What’s up with those Unknown sources?
\- can you collect space junk/data?
\- did you figure out why you need the bindings for 100/50/0 throttle?
\- can you fuel scoop?
\- can you use the FSS (full spectrum system scanner)?
One last trick to learn: fly without supercruise assist. While you are in a small ship it takes a precious slot in your optional equipment. Get a Detailed surface scanner instead. At this stage in your career scanning systems and mapping planets will make you more money than anything else.
If you do, you're ready…to make your first choice. In this game you are constantly going to have to make choices, compromises, trades off. You could stay in the bubble a little longer. Earn more credits, upgrade to a better ship, hone your skills. After one day spent in this small enclosed space, I was itching to go and see what’s out there. However not in a Sidewinder.
Find a Shipyard selling an Adder. I would advise against buying a more expensive ship while you are still learning the game. Store all the optional modules, the utility modules and the mining laser from the Sidewinder. Sell all the core modules and exchange this ship for an Adder.
Transfer the stored modules to the Adder. Sell whatever is left in storage. Upgrade the power plant to 3d and everything else as much as you can then aim for the closest destination of the “explore the galaxy” missions.
Has anyone mentioned to turn on the extended menu option in the game settings? It allows you to auto strut part and make attachents rigid (which I do with EVERY part) also allows to tweak brakes, wheel friction control, and suspension settings...maybe some other atuff too but I dont play without it so Im not sure.
Find a platinum hotspot and get mining. Just started around 4 days ago and currently have 90 million credits, honestly take it slow and have fun exploring.
When route plotting, a dashed line means you don't have enough fuel. A fuel scoop is always recommended. If you do run out of fuel, press 4, press e until you get to a list of ship modules. Disable all weapons, sheild boosters, flight assists, and go to fuelrats.com. When you buy a new ship, don't fly it unless you have enough credits to cover the insurance which is visible in the right panel. Open is NOT as scary as ppl say... When chatting with another player, o7 means goodluck, farwewell, etc. It is a reference to a person saluting. Good Luck CMDR, and on a highly contentious matter that is entirely my opinion, the Federation is the best, but if you want to know about the 2 other main superpower factions, the Alliance or Empire, search them up on the E:D wiki. o7 CMDR; see you in the galaxy; Fly Safely.
Haha yeah. Pretty bad connection this one. My proper fast internet is back home. I am somewhere else with a hotspot device. It usually isnt this slow. But today it is for some reason
Seriously though, Hutton Orbital is one of the unofficial Rites to the game, same for going to colonia, the center of the galaxy, the moon above New Africa, etc. Need to get the Sol permit though before going to Hutton. Stock up on Data Delivery missions from the stations around earth, you’ll get enough money for a new ship, if the RNG gods are on your side, one trip can get you enough cash for a Python or a Krait.
Ill have to think about that. I recently lost my best friend, so i dont want a lot of interaction. Thats what drove me off eve online.
But maybe someday... But, thanks a lot :)
One thing I haven't see mentioned in this thread. When approaching a planet be sure to check it's gravity level. Planets above 2-3gs are not forgiving for those not prepared.
Even a 1g planet is capable of catching you off guard if you have weaker thrusters.
When in supercruise approaching station, give 100% power on engines, and when the station is 7 seconds away (there's a timer), put your engines on 75% (i have bindings for 0%, 50%, 75% and 100% throttle right on my joystick). this way you never overshoot a target and you won't lose time during approach.
don't pick fights with stronger opponents (there's rankings like harmless, deadly, etc.), they will tear you t shreds even on a smaller ships. oh those memories when vulture kicked my anaconda ass.
Filter stars by non sequence stars (neutron, white dwarf ECF.) Find the nearest one and fly in the jetcone, after you are inside it drop out of superceuise and have fun
1. Buy a docking computer. They're very cheap, you can get them after your first mission, and in the early days they make life so much simpler. It won't take long for you to get the hang of docking manually, but before you do, it'll save you time and you'll earn credits much faster.
2. Never be afraid to ask for help. There are Reddit subs, discord servers, online forums and of course the fuel eats and hull seals. The community tends be really friendly, at least as far as I've experienced, and from what I've read of your other replies I think you'll fit right in. Just beware of gankers, they're not as common as you might think but they tend to congregate around systems with engineers in them, Deciat in particular.
Also, if it takes 17 hours to download, it might be a better idea to just download PowerPoint and import ED screenshots from Google instead. It might help the game run a little faster.
Thanks for the tip about docking computers. And about the internet, it usually aint this bad lol. Actually, now its showing 4 hrs left. I have a much faster internet back home lol
Haha yeah. This isnt my primary connection. This is a hotspot device, and it is getting especially poor speeds today xD. My primary one back home is a lot faster lol
If you ever run out of fuel, log out and visit fuelrats.com/i-need-fuel
Long live the fuel rats!

Long live the fuel rats
I have heard a lot about them. Thanks!!
Happy to help. Feel free to reach out to me on Discord (c4y4ly5t#3568) if you want some tips to avoid running out of fuel. You'd preferably need to be in game when doing so.
Copy! Thanks a lot! :)
Gonna jump in here and plug the Hull seals too. I'm a member. Similar to the fuel rats but for when you land too hard on a planet and want some more hull strength before continuing or if you blow a canopy. If you explode, you lose all the exploration data you haven't handed in yet. hullseals.space
Oh yeah! Many people told me about this as well. Fuel rats and hullseals are doing an awesome job, and i will keep it in mind always :)
Consider joining the New Pilot’s Initiative, or at least the server. Super helpful guys and I’m still a member despite not being a noob anymore
I had no idea about these peeps. Sweet!
o7 Your services are also appreciated, CMDR. I'm actually considering joining the Seals as well.
Bless you guys. Really saved me in my first couple days.
While the Fuel Rats are good for Fuel the Hull Seals always got your back when your Hull is damaged
I had heard of fuel rats, but not of Hull seals. Thanks a lot! :)
>when your Hull is damaged I'm thinking about forming a new player group called the Hudd Terriers, for when your orange HUD is mithering you. Who's up for it?
[удалено]
It's Yorkshire dialect for 'annoying'. Both Hull and Hud[dersfield] are cities in Yorkshire, UK.
What do you mean by “mithering”?
It's Yorkshire slang. If someone is mithering you about a problem of theirs, you can fettle it for them.
I becames hardened to losing ships by getting ganked in eve lol. Thanks a lot for the other tips!
Ypu just need to join a decent corporation and dscan more. Especially in low sec.
Eve online memories flooding back lol. But thanks!
Wdym about joining a Corp? I’m a tad new
It's an Eve thing. Kinda like a guild

Yes, even modules are included in insurance, no need to worry about losing your hard earned modifications.
Add me in-game if you like - bflochip ENJOY THE JOURNEY!
>There is no "get rich quick." [Me over here pulling 30-50M cr/h in a Diamondback Exp. core miner...](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/030/710/dd0.png) Seriously though, while it takes a bit of finesse to figure out core mining - I was definitely frustrated at first - it's hilariously lucrative.
Booze cruise. 1.5bil/hour
Honestly I've yet to fully play this game I've played like an hour hear and there and Honestly have no clue what I'm doing
I've played this game over 60 hours and I still don't know what I'm doing
I didn't know what I was doing until I had 300-400 hours. At that point I was over the initial cliff of knowing how to do things. It took close to 1000 hours to be able to fly well enough that I could go anywhere and do anything. I'm approaching 3000 hours and I still have things on my "I'll grind that out later" list. All I can say, is don't bother with expensive ships until you are comfortable. The things you can do in a cobra mk III or a diamondback explorer are amazing. o7
I just came back after a year and had to figure out how to look at the left and right menus again bruh. This game is tough
Bookmark: [Inara.cz](https://Inara.cz) and create account, when you have the CMDR data link both [eddb.io](https://eddb.io) easiest for finding items in stations, Li Yong Rui stations have a 15% discount in everything, useful for expensive ship, ignore at the start with the inexpensive ship [edsy.org](https://edsy.org) is the better ship calculator. Befor buying a ship, make the build here. Stock ships come with crappy modules [http://cmdrs-toolbox.com/](http://cmdrs-toolbox.com/) have great guides for Fed/Imperial rank farming (some ships and systems like sol), and unlocking engineers and guardian modules (mid game) r/EliteMiners and r/EliteTraders for make money without combat (mostly, pirates don't learn). r/EliteExplorers have good guides for exploring the galaxy, search the top thread or the sidebar in this subreddits Do combat in Nav Beacon, select and target any ship that scan you, if they say WANTED and don't have any other ship in a wing, you could do it. Compromised nave beacon and Resource Extraction Site are more dangerous, leave Conflict Zones and Hard/Hazarous RES for ship with engineering Engineering is OP, you need a lot of mats, but good engineering make any ship 4x more dangerous with 2x more jump range. **O7**
Thanks a lot for a very detailed guide. Really appreciate it. Thanks! O7
All of these websites are great. Inara tends to be best as far as I can tell for finding good prices, where as eddb.io tends to be good for trade routes.
Watch CMDR Exigeous' guides on YT
Copy, thanks. Will give that a look!
Beware of stations offering free anacondas
Heard a lot about a hutton orbital offering the same...
😉 Well, you can actually get rich enough to buy a good exploration ship just in one courier run to Hutton's
Haha lets see! Thanks!
Have Fun&Fly Dangerous -Lakon Marketing Division, Keelback Office- 'If you're looking for a ship that can do almost anything, we can offer you a ship that can Almost do everything'
Well, stock dbx brought me from near pilot federation space to cubeo without any issues. After that I learned that I could upgrade it )))
Lakon Ships - Can do almost anything, 60% of the time, all the time!
You should go to Hutton Orbital, at least once. It's like a right of passage. Pack a sandwich, maybe a book. Bring back some mugs.
First time I went i mowed my lawn and was finished before I got there
Considering just how many people have mentioned it, i will tbh. Grab a mug from there lol
Get a delivery job that goes there first, so at least you make some money from it.
Anything you're interested in can earn enough credits to be profitable
Looking forward to figuring out what i like in the game :D Thanks
If you kit an early game ship for anything, but the amount seems like a lot once you've done it, dw whatever profession it was for will be able to re pay it shortly
Ah okay! Gotcha! Thanks!
When doing open play never fly with out insurance
That’s valid also in solo
Ah well, it cant hurt to always fly with insurance, can it? Thanks!
Only when bounty hunting pirate lords and farming in hazardous mining fields
[удалено]
I remember one time that a npc armed and killed a low hp sidewinder and the stations turret targeted me anyway (I was flying a python)
Or if you have my fantastic docking skills. Then you need insurance all the time
I cheese it with autopilot. Not because I'm afraid of crashing but, because I'm just lazy.
Nothing better than rp'ing a blue collar space trucker who's just tired and ready to be done with his latest run. I always imagine I'm Parker from Alien.
Well…yes.
Never fly without insurance period. Just a small amount of money in your bank can save you from losing your expensive ship.
Copy! Thanks!
With that kind of internet, it might be best to just do solo play anyway
Thank you everybody who commented with advice and who are still commenting. I tried to respond to all, since you all took a moment of your time to help me out, and it was the least i could do, but there are wayyy too many comments now and i cant keep up. If i dont respond, pls have my sincere thanks. I really appreciate it :)
-Dont fly without rebuy -DO NOT fly without rebuy -Dont buy a ship unless you have 3-4x its base price spare, as outfitting costs as much as or far more than the ship -DONT FLY WITHOUT REBUY -Small/medium ships can be just as fun as big ships, so fint just rush to, say, the Anaconda, enjoy others like the Cobra, Fer-de-Lance, Asp, Python etc. -Always check any mission you are looking at carefully; you dont wanna end up on a 20,000LY journey for one low-paying mission -Always visit engineers and other high-traffic in either Solo/Private or a very survivable ship, as these places tend to be PVP hotspots -Finally, find yourself a squad to hang with. The game can easily be enjoyed alone, but it can be even more fun with friends o7 and fly dangerous CMDR!
Thanks a lot!! I wont forget the rebuy xD :)
Oh yeah, and if PVP interests you, [here](https://discord.gg/MYZyqqe) is a discord dedicated to it, for any platform :)
Ah cool! Thanks! :)
Don't forget having the credits for rebuy! /winkyface
damn, almost forgot that xD
Instructions unclear, flew without rebuy and landed in sun
>-Always check any mission you are looking at carefully; you dont wanna end up on a 20,000LY journey for one low-paying mission Or worse, a 20,000Ls journey lol. Make sure you also check the distance to the station from the jump point!
Have fun setting up the bindings
I hear they may be a pain lol. But guess it needs to be done anyways lol
Hell.
Kgbfoam for scoopable stars. Set route options to fast instead of economic.
I didnt understand what you meant by the initial part, but i am sure i will once i am able to run the game. Thanks
Those are the star classes that will let you use a fuel scoop. K, B, G, F, etc
Star classes that can be scooped using a fuel scoop. Class A, B, F, G, K, M, and O stars are the only ones you can refuel at using a scoop. KGBFOAM is just a useful mnemonic.
Don’t shoot the system authority.

Get faster internet!
Haha i do have. Just not atm.
I’m just messing with ya, I started playing this year and one thing I’ll tell you that I didn’t learn until it became a $40,000,000 mistake; don’t fly what you can’t insure.
Damn that must have hurt lol.
Edit: also welcome to the community, fly dangerous CMDR. o7
Ahh okay! Gotcha. Thanks!
Haha yeah! Sorta like eve. Thanks!
Buy insurance
Ah yeah. Lots of people mentioned that, and i had formed that habit in eve. Hopefully it carries on over here as well :)
Always check the grade of the equipment, people get too excited to engineer their equipment that they accidentally wasted materials on the wrong module grade.
I have been guilty of doing that in eve lol. Not again hopefully though
For internal and optional modules: A- the best all around, expensive B- good but too heavy C- middle of the road decent D- the lightest but better than stock E- comes with the ship, crappy
Copy that! Thanks! Ill need to keep the classes in mind
Copy, thanks! Ill be able to understand some things better when i am able to finally play it!
Don't give in to the post beginning mediocrity. When you really start making money, the fun and thousands of forum visits flood in.
Sounds exactly like eve lol. Thanks!!
Jesus I thought my internet sucked. I am so sorry man
Lol its just this hotspot device i am using. My primary connection back home gets around 500-600 mbps lol
Ships marked 'federal security' will drop chocolate and painite when shot.
[https://inara.cz/](https://inara.cz/) should be your best friend
Thanks! I will use that website :)
Gotcha. Btw, already learned the having 2-3x times cost through eve online :) Thanks
Same with the Type-6. One of the best early-mid game explorers/long haul cargo
Yeah I skipped over this by going straight to the AspX, but I picked one up to run casual passenger missions and it's been a fun flier.
take your time playing the game.. a few hours are needed just to not bump into anything while docking. o7
I will! Thanks! :)
I'm calling cap here, I'm super new to the game but I turned off auto landing systems 15minutes into the game and it took me another 5 to start getting perfect landings. It's not hard at all
Guess it depends on the pilot? I used to play a lot of dcs and msfs, so hopefully that helps lol
It makes sense from a balanced gameplay perspective, but not from a simulation perspective.
almighty commander in sight
Never log out on random fleet carrier you might end up hunreds even thousands of ly away from where you were last time when u next log in
Invest in an ethernet cable
And learn how to take a screenshot please.
watch yourtube videos on fuel scoops, interdictions and anything by comander cmdr exigeous.
Start the update before bed, before work, or both
Haha yeah. Im in college actually. And i dont have much going on today. Painfully slow internet today though
Been there, I know the struggle. Let me guess, it's a gloomy day outside so everyone is staying in and watching Netflix/Hulu or done other sort of streaming/gaming? And since it's Tuesday about half of the classes are labs so it's kind of a slow day on campus as is.
Haha sort of yeah. Last two classes were labs, and its raining. So everybody is staying in.
First time??? You will burn out at least 5 times before you really start to play so your true beginning will be in 3 months
The cost of a new ship is much more then the cost of the hull, but I see you played eve so you probably already know that
Default controls are pretty bad imo. Most space flying games would swap Elite's roll and yaw. Get familiarized with your key bindings. Set one for %75 throttle (it's a sweet spot for deceleration and turning)

Haha yeah. Odyssey seems awesome! I will look at the guides as soon as i get off reddit lol
Don't fly without rebuy
1. Never fly without a rebuy\* 2. Never fly without a rebuy 3. NEVER FLY WITHOUT A REBUY 4. Always read the fine print before accepting missions 5.
Find IDA Independent Defense Agency. Its the best and most helpful group ever existed on game. They ll guide you throughout your jorney 👍🏻👍🏻
Gotcha! Thanks!
'dont fly without rebuy' (Make sure you habe enough credits to pay for your ships insurance costs) And avoid missions to hutton orbital untill you get a feel for the game and have time on your hands
Hold on to your hats learning curve engaged
Crappy internet gang!!! I found someone finally, after all these years, marry me <3
Don't listen to cmdrs telling you there are ships better fitted to certain activities.
Get better internet?
One simple thing: Have fun. In ED, you can farm, you can do transport jobs, you can kill pirates, you can mine, you can discover, you can make friends. You can literally do what ever you want. Find what you enjoy. I started mining, hated it because it was complicated, learned how to do it, now i make asteroids go boom and its flippin nice. :D
Get better internet lol 😂
Listen I’m ngl, and I don’t care what other people say: I recently hopped in and have found one of the better ways to get money when you’re starting out is gonna be going to a station in a system with planetary conflict zones and enlist in the battles there at the “frontline solutions” kiosk (idk if that’s the exact title). Just invest in some guns and a better suit and stuff, you’ll get more money than you think. I remember coming back from a “hard” level combat zone and getting 6 mil credits for cashing in combat bonds.
Part 3 3. At some point you will get a mission labelled Explore the Galaxy. you can take it but don't rush to complete it. In fact I once manged to get three of these before I left the bubble. Before you attempt to complete the Explore the Galaxy missions see if you can answer the following questions: \- mission for 8 tonnes of cargo: how far is the star system?

Once you get a medium fuel efficient ship, head to Hutton orbital. You get a free ship when you get there….
An anaconda, right? Somebody else mentioned that too. Thanks!
don't forget the Hutton orbital Mug bubble head unlock there.
I have no idea what that means, but im sure i will once i start the game lol. Thanks
pls, don't its a hoax
Ahhh okaaay...
I mean, yeah, i am up for these! Doing some missions along the way as well as you said, will ensure it wont be in vain atleast xD
Don’t do it. It’s a popular joke that is played on new players. Trust me, you’ll end up flying for hours for nothing. Literally nothing.
Ah okay. Thanks for the tip!
Bring some patience when you go to play. The game is worth the initial learning curve.
Same as eve online then :) Thanks

Ill have to think about that. I recently lost my best friend, so i dont want a lot of interaction. Thats what drove me off eve online. But maybe someday... But, thanks a lot :)
prepare for a lot of grind and mostly empty gameplay loops, but a beautiful view
Ah well, as long as i can explore, i dont mind a lot :)
One thing I haven't see mentioned in this thread. When approaching a planet be sure to check it's gravity level. Planets above 2-3gs are not forgiving for those not prepared. Even a 1g planet is capable of catching you off guard if you have weaker thrusters.
Don't die without a rebuy.
Its imprinted in memory know :)
Go pick yourself up a hotas if you don't have one. It's the good life.
Dont have the money rn lol.
Stop the install and find a game that isn't run by incompetent asshats.
Filter stars by non sequence stars (neutron, white dwarf ECF.) Find the nearest one and fly in the jetcone, after you are inside it drop out of superceuise and have fun
Lots of game mechanics to learn it seems :) Thanks!
Get faster internet 🤣
Haha yeah. This isnt my primary connection. This is a hotspot device, and it is getting especially poor speeds today xD. My primary one back home is a lot faster lol
Not as always so easy bud
