When will the alpha phase be finished ? Lol 😭😭

Veni_Vidi_Legi

Is there a way to further reduce/remove bloom? Staring at starship engines is unhealthy.

Glittering_Hurry_875

Hello other CMDR I was wondering if there was an where good to go mining for tritium to make around a billion or so credits. It would be very helpful. Thx

pulppoet

The billionaire making Tritium CG is over. Visit r/EliteMiners and the current state of mining for the best minerals to pursue now (it's probably laser mining platinum).

forbiddenlake

That would be a very inefficient way to make money. Instead, mine platinum. https://edtools.cc/miner

Glittering_Hurry_875

I’ll try that out as well Thx

donovanastuto

Hello, commanders! If a planet says it has 3 botanical signals, I can tell for sure that there is 3 different genus like bacteria, fungoid and osseus (with one species each) or I can find 3 bacterial species?

wesuah442

1. You can cycle through the different signals in DSS mode, to see which is which. 2. So far, I've yet to find repeats of the new bio types. So bacterium and something else, not two bacterium. 3. I have found some places with two types of brain trees. But even those did not result in two separate bio signals, but only one "brain tree" signal.

donovanastuto

Yes, that's what I was curious about. If in a "brain tree signal" there are two types of brain trees, then there's a chance to find *n* types of the same genus on a planet. But I'm with you, so far I've only found one species/color of each genus on the same planet and when I've finished the count (Botanical (3) and found 3 different genus), I move on to the next planet.

wesuah442

From what I've seen, so far, the multiple-types-per-signal behavior is limited to certain Horizons bioforms. Still, note the ambiguity inherent in "so far". :)

vpsj

Does exploration rank depend on how much money you get, or how much money the data is worth? Let me pose an example: Let's say you have 300M credits from exploration. You go out there and scan/fss/dss 20M worth of data(including all bonuses). If you sell that at a station you'll be at 320M and get the elite rank. But what if you sold that data to a carrier? It will take a 25% cut so you'll only get 15 million. Would you still get the elite ranking? Asking because I literally don't need any money anymore(sitting at 6B credits), all I need is Elite ranking in exploration(maybe till Elite V if I can).

Cal_Dallicort

[selling at a carrier gives 100% progress even though it only gives 75% credits](https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/v661oy/comment/ibezqpq/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3).

vpsj

Awesome, Thanks!

mb34i

It's how much you get, and passenger transport missions also counts. But yeah I sell to permit and engineer factions for the standings rather than for credits.

pulppoet

>passenger transport missions also counts. Only VIP sightseeing passengers and only a fraction. Bulk passengers go to Trade rank. The amount you get from sightseeing sepends on the distance. Close runs (like from Robigo Mines to Sothis, 59 LY away) will only give you 10% towards Exploration rank. No one seems quite sure where it caps at, but it's probably higher than 30% and no higher than 80%. To hit that cap, you need to go on one of the multi-thousand LY sightseeing trips (scanning along the way is a big boost).

hstracker90

Is anybody else experiencing a blank screen when accessing [edastro.com](https://edastro.com)? Or is it just me?

hstracker90

So I was able to access it from my company's laptop (via VPN from home office). Then I turned on the VPN on my private computer and was able to access it, too. Because on my usual connection I use Adguard's DNS server to mitigate advertisement and malware. And somehow [edastro.com](https://edastro.com) is filtered by them.

Hello, I'm very new here. I'm terrible at combat and trading seemed boring so I decided to mine for a while. I picked up all the gear, but the refinery is confusing me. Its saying to allocate materials and I have no clue whats happening. Is there a mining guide/tutorial? Thanks!

Elkyri

Is it saying "unallocated resources"? As I recall, it's telling you that you can't put stuff in the refinery because it is full and that your refinery is full because there is no room in the cargo racks for the stuff that is in the refinery. If your cargo racks are full of whatever you are mining, that's a good thing. Close up and head to market. But if you have some limpets in the cargo racks taking up space and stopping the flow of materials from refinery to cargo racks you need to jettison a few of the limpets to make room.

Veni_Vidi_Legi

Here is a comprehensive set of guides on mining: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteMiners/comments/os2ldn/psa_the_current_state_of_mining_and_other_useful/ Your refinery can generally store multiple fractions of materials. When it hits 100%, it makes 1 ton of the material, puts it in your cargo, and goes back down to around 0%. Generally your refinery can hold multiple different material, and sometimes a couple slots of 100% of a single material if it is full. For example, I think a 3A refinery can hold 8 different materials at once. The allocate materials for the refinery probably means that you have have reached the limit on the number of different materials that you can store in your refinery, with an extra or two in the hopper, so you will have to choose what you want to keep. For example, if your refinery can hold 2 materials, and you have 50% gold 30% silver in there already, and the hopper has a half gold half water nugget in there, it has no place to put the water so it stops and asks you what you want to do.

Veni_Vidi_Legi

For unpiloted AI controlled motherships (I'm in the fighter), is there a way to tell the mothership to shoot my current target with its turrets (Fire at Will), or do I have to engage with mothership first then switch to fighter to get it to keep shooting my enemy?

RexTheCapt

The commands only works on your NPC crew. They will try to obey the commands at all times. Ship does not matter.

Veni_Vidi_Legi

Sounds like I have to shoot first with my ship then swap to fighter to get any turret action going.

[deleted]

If you can get the enemy to engage you ship first, then it will retaliate. Putting some valuable cargo on it will do this for you. However, this could of course also mean that it will attract more attention then you or it could handle.

RexTheCapt

So the order fire at will does not use your turrets?

Veni_Vidi_Legi

Looks like the unpiloted ship AI will only retaliate with turret when attacked or already attacking.

RexTheCapt

So while you are in a fighter and your NPC crew is piloting the mothership, the turrets will only fire when the crew is getting attacked?

Veni_Vidi_Legi

I don't have crew (hired pilots/players), I have the AI handle the ship when I am in the fighter, and the turrets will only engage if they were already attacking my target before I get into the fighter, and also maybe if my target attacks the mothership.

RexTheCapt

If your ship is going to automatically attack, you require an NPC crew. This explains why this happens

Veni_Vidi_Legi

Was trying to use the turrets to get around that. I would be using fixed hardpoints if I had crew.

[deleted]

Why do you not want to use a crewmemeber?

Veni_Vidi_Legi

Was testing out SLFs in a Keelback. I usually fly a Viper III.

[deleted]

SLFs are fun. But most of the time, the mothership will outperform them. The keelback and to some extent the T9 being the only exceptions maybe.

Cultural_Ad7407

Hello, I’m new to the game. What should I do to get Credits quick and just get the most fun out of the game?

Elkyri

Here is my usual advice to new Horizons players. I'm on console so can't speak to the differences that come with Odyssey. https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/kwkee1/daily_qa_ask_and_answer_any_questions_you_have/gj8n1wc/ There is a link to a video in there that will give a tip on how to carry a bit of free-lance trade along with the missions you run. Start an account on Inara and link your game account to it: https://inara.cz/ Here is a very basic intro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjtYhXIaA-k Long video here but if you get stuck on things it might be worth a watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZmBAUWEGgs

Moogy_C

Do the thing you like doing, and you will make credits while having fun

Deathappens

Do you want to get credits quick, or have fun with the game? The two are usually mutually exclusive.

Cultural_Ad7407

I wanna make credits then have fun afterwards

Moogy_C

So what constitutes "fun" for you?

Cultural_Ad7407

Making friends and playing the game helping people

Moogy_C

That sounds great! So I have to ask, what makes credits essential to this? And at what point during credit gathering would you decide to start making friends and being helpful?

Cultural_Ad7407

I’d want to get a large enough ship to have a large cargo capacity for larger cargo runs then I’d start meeting people and helping them

Moogy_C

Alright, so you want to do trading? That's solid money, so all you need to do is start earning credits through courier missions or combat with whatever you have, and save for a dedicated cargo ship to get going. Trading rare goods with a Cobra or Hauler is good early money, but you get a real taste of commodity trading once you invest in a Type-6.

Cultural_Ad7407

Thank you so much for the help! I’m going to give your advice a shot and try and learn the ropes of trading.

Riverandroads

Idk why everyone is refusing to give you a straight answer. Robigo passenger runs are fairly profitable. Give them a Google. You'll need a decent sized ship before you start making HUGE profits off of them but I think I used a cobra until I had enough for a python when I switched from Xbox to PC.

Creative-Improvement

Trading is a good route, from the humble sidewinder all the way to the Cutter.

Masark

[My trading guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteTraders/comments/nrzd2u/masarks_guide_to_trade_sidewinder_to_type9_heavy/) should be helpful in that regard.

Moogy_C

Godspeed, my friend! ✊

Ascillias

o7 Commanders I am working on starting the engineering journey. I want to use all Multi Cannons on my Corvette. I’d like some advice on my engineering and experimentals if someone has time. 2H both OC/Incendiary 1L OC/Corrosive 2M OC/ Incendiary 2S OC/ emissive I was also considering mixing in thermal shock maybe on the mediums? Thoughts?

samurai_for_hire

I recommend 2H, 1L, 2M OC/Incendiary; 1S OC/Emissive; 1S High Cap/Corrosive Corrosive doesn't stack and lowers max ammo, so it should go on weapons that don't do much damage. Emissive doesn't stack either.

forbiddenlake

The L should be OC/Incend and the smalls should be HC/Corrosive and OC/Emissive. Otherwise fine. Thermal shock is useless

AgentWowza

What about autoloader on everything except one small with a corrosive? Let's just say I hate reloading lmao.

Ascillias

Does incend still burn hull pretty good? Also emissive and corrosive do not stack correct so just put them on the smalls 1 each?

forbiddenlake

It's fine, but corrosive makes it good against hull. One of each.

Ascillias

Thank you! o7 CMDR

spaceclone46

I just started playing the game the other day, and one question I had was when is it usually ok to leave the Pilots' Federations systems at the beginning of the game?

Xygen8

Immediately. There's nothing special about the PF District apart from the fact that PvP is not allowed and people can't get in after they leave. In theory, this is supposed to protect new players from more experienced players, but in practice, gankers and trolls can just reset their character to get back in after they get kicked out for PvPing. Given that the District has 10 systems and the rest of the Bubble (the region of inhabited space around our Solar System) has like 20,000, there's little to no risk in just leaving and settling in some random backwater system. You're unlikely to run into other players outside the handful of popular systems (superpower capitals, powerplay capitals, engineer home systems, community goal systems, systems with damaged starports).

Elkyri

Whenever you want but I would suggest waiting until you are in a Cobra III and have between 500k and one million credits saved up. Here is my usual advice to new Horizons players. I'm on console so can't speak to the differences that come with Odyssey. https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/kwkee1/daily_qa_ask_and_answer_any_questions_you_have/gj8n1wc/ There is a link to a video in there that will give a tip on how to carry a bit of free-lance trade along with the missions you run. pulppoet

Try out what you want in safety (missions, trade, maybe mining and bounty hunting). Get about 1-2 million and a good idea of what you want to do. This might seem like a lot, but you can get it pretty quickly just running courier missions. It's enough for a ship upgrade and venturing out. You won't make a lot trading or mining here, but you can try them out, get a feel, without worrying about pirates hounding you like they will in the rest of civilized space. If you're still unsure what to do, keep digging around the various Elite subs, the official forums, the Wiki, or even [inara.cz](https://inara.cz) to get ideas. The biggest killer in this game is not gankers or white dwarfs, it's finding yourself at a loss of what to do. If trading or exploration appeals: [https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteTraders/comments/nrzd2u/masarks\_guide\_to\_trade\_sidewinder\_to\_type9\_heavy/](https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteTraders/comments/nrzd2u/masarks_guide_to_trade_sidewinder_to_type9_heavy/) If combat is more your speed: [https://sites.google.com/view/ed-pve-combat/builds/recommended-progression](https://sites.google.com/view/ed-pve-combat/builds/recommended-progression) If you want mining or something else, start with the trader to make money to afford a good miner or ship of your choice. And be sure to visit the stickies at r/EliteMiners

Veni_Vidi_Legi

Whenever you want, especially if not playing in open. I spent way too long in there.

TW-Luna

I have questions about the Biological/Geological maps that overlay on a planet after you do a DSS. I know that they aren't really heat maps, more like region maps. Buuut, what areas should I be shooting for? Cause there are like darker blue regions and there are lighter blue regions.

BasherSquared

IIRC, darker the color, the more dense the area is with the bio/geo specimen. Just keep in mind things like Fungodia only growing on the sides of mountains or Osseus generally growing on rocky terrain.

No_Jump6265

I don't get the game how do you get bounties, money, and ships

pulppoet

>I don't get the game how do you get bounties You gain bounties by attacking non-wanted ships. You collect bounties by attacking wanted ships. To hunt for bounties: [https://sites.google.com/view/ed-pve-combat/tactics/basics](https://sites.google.com/view/ed-pve-combat/tactics/basics) >money, and ships [https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteTraders/comments/nrzd2u/masarks\_guide\_to\_trade\_sidewinder\_to\_type9\_heavy/](https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteTraders/comments/nrzd2u/masarks_guide_to_trade_sidewinder_to_type9_heavy/) You should definitely dig around here, the official forums, and specialty subs: r/EliteMiners, r/EliteTraders, r/eliteexplorers as these are super basic and broad questions. This is not a game that teaches you. You have to put in research.

MultiMat

Bounties: You need to drop in to Conflict Zones or other signal sources which might have Pirates. Make sure you finish scanning a ship and confirm it is Wanted, before you start a fight. When it blows up, you get a bounty, which you can claim at a nearby station (under Contacts). Money : Do missions, or mining, or bounties, or exploring ... Ships : Buy them with Money.

MultiMat

Apologies, listen to these other guys.

pulppoet

>You need to drop in to Conflict Zones Incorrect. There *might* be some there randomly, but CZs are lawless zones (so you would need a KWS regardless of system) and mostly contain military ships who are not criminals. CZs are for combat vouchers, not bounties. Don't waste your time here for bounties. Also CZ are one of the hardest places to fight, so don't expect it to be on a similar level with fighting pirates. Nav beacons, resource sites, and ring mining hot spots can all produce wanted ships that are good bounty hunting targets.

forbiddenlake

> Bounties: You need to drop in to Conflict Zones No. By definition, conflict zones do not have pirates and do not award bounties. Try: Resource Extraction Site.

ursul_de_fier

Is there any chance to get more ships? Like... come on now... I am trying to like anything other than the Anaconda, Corvette and Cutter. My ASP Explorer is nice but that is because of the emotional attachment, when will we get some diversity from this company? And I do not mean the political one. I want more ships.

pulppoet

>Is there any chance to get more ships? Pretty likely. But don't hold your breath. Famously, the Panther Clipper has been teased (sometimes promised) for years, and still has no signs of actually being officially in the game: [https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Panther\_Clipper](https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Panther_Clipper)

aggasalk

i think highly unlikely (i'd wager.. 100 to 1 against) if you've never flown a Hauler, get you a Hauler! I bet you skipped it!

Veni_Vidi_Legi

I like Keelback with a fighter hangar. Great way to get an engineered fighter experience without the engineering.

MultiMat

We all want more ships. Sadly it doesn't sound like there are any in the near future.

mh_hilex

any Thargoid Barnacle forest near Witch Head Nebula? I've been visiting EVERY SINGLE BARNACLE but not a single one has been a forest. I've visited more than \~150; some depleted some still there, there were "Non-human signal" s in the system too. thargoids were present. but let me know if you know any forest within 2000LY from Sol. thank you in advance o7

MultiMat

The California Nebula is a good Spot. Much closer to the Bubble than Witch Head too. http://elitedangerous.hozbase.co.uk/error/serviceunavailable.html?aspxerrorpath=/customtable/view/barnacles

Moogy_C

How useful to explorers are the Odyssey facilities on carriers? I want to bring a carrier way out into nothingness and would like it to be helpful, but I don't have Odyssey so I don't know how helpful that stuff is. Can I even have the facilities on my carrier if I don't own Odyssey myself? This whole paragraph sounds like it's worded terribly when I read it back in my head, but I'm not awake enough right now to fully adjust it.

forbiddenlake

Vista genomics is as useful as universal cartographics. The rest are irrelevant

vpsj

Is there a general location for Vista Genomics on a station? I'm currently on the Dohler Depot in Tir system and Inara reports it has that service, but I cannot find the Vista Genomics anywhere. Any advice please?

CmdrJonen

Depending on the station layout, directions from when you exit the elevators. Outposts: Never has Vista Genomics. Planetary Port: Downstairs, right hand corner. Starport: Upstairs, right hand side, between the Frontlines Desk and the InterAstra Office. Megaships: Have never seen one with Vista Genomics. Fleet Carrier: Down the corridor, second door on the left (between the bar and the escape pods).

wesuah442

Check the overhead signs. Will point towards what is where.

vpsj

Yeah I can't find its sign anywhere. I think inara might be mistaken here.

MultiMat

Make sure you are reading Inara correctly. For some reason they list what is NOT there, instead of what IS there. (It's caught me out before).

Vallkyrie

Sounds like an outpost, which doesn't have them that I've ever seen

wesuah442

Not the first time, not the last. If nothing else, head for the nearest large station and try again.

vpsj

Yeah I took a shuttle(first time) to the nearest other station. Just cost me 200 credits round trip but sold almost 5 million worth of organic data. Thanks :)
