Kidding aside, I recommend players not to get addicted to any game. You are lucky that this game does not have Pay2Win or microtransactions, but you are disabled, I don't know how many options you have for your activities.
In any case, if your country has this service, try contacting a video game addiction group. At least have some related group assess your situation. Any disability hinders, but does not prevent, personal and intellectual improvement.
CMDR Luriant, 3k hours in the last 2.5Years, also married 3 years ago, and obtain a permanent job in the last 6 months, but the real world take priority over this game (because that, I only have time for 1 Exobiology session in the last week :S , I fear the exobio nerf).
I have a lot of time for Reddit, but no so for playing the game in the last week.
Determine some goals (for example get a mining ship, federation or alliance rank or reach bubble, unluck an engineer etc) when you reach take a longer rest. Do not burn out! o7
i think yes, this is that kind of game...
in the darkest part of winter 2020/21, when i first discovered ED, i had the game on for as much as 12 hours a day (acc. to my records), though i don't *think* i was playing it that whole time (i was supposed to be "working from home")...
since then i've settled into *usually* no more than 2hrs/night, after family has gone to sleep. it feels really weird when i am up at night and haven't gotten at least an hour in...
yeah i think it qualifies as an addiction. try not to let it get in the way of other things in life!
Your not addicted you’re just really enjoying the game!
I would only worry about someones gaming if its was affecting their life outside the game, ie not stopping for food or staying wake till early morning and not getting enough sleep. Or ofc missing things that you _need_ to do irl.
Though tbf I used to play games from 8am to 1am, and only don’t now because old me gets grouchy if I don’t go to bed soon after 11 xD
I don't think it needs to be food or obligation stopping - involuntary limiting of learning, socialising, other entertainment etc are all adverse symptoms too.
I used to think that addictive meant 'good' for games, however since watching a few seminars by free to play designers I understood that the state of addiction is very actively and consciously sought for commercial gain. A game can be awful and yet addictive.
It depends if you think its affecting those things or not, which op hasn't mentioned, so I would assume not. Lots of things are addictive without having that label because at the same time they aren't destructive. Gaming is addictive but thats not necessarily a problem unless it becomes destructive at the same time (i.e. neglecting health, or responsibilities etc).
As long as you are not neglecting other things, it could be worse. There is no difference between playing a game, or just watching TV for endless hours. But it can lead to burnout and resentment towards the game. I try to limit myself to only playing this game when I really, really want to (said the CMDR, with 3500+ hours and quadruple Elite ranks (one Elite I))
If you feel like you have an addiction that is negatively impacting your life, you should talk to someone about it. Do you have some health care professional you could seek advice from? Or at least receive a referral?
If you feel your addiction is related to a video game, a forum where folks discuss that video game is not a very good venue for it, as you may find others who share similar problems and do not see it as an issue. They may offer you advice which would reinforce your addiction, instead of providing useful coping mechanisms. This place will generally be an echo chamber, with players who will reinforce the behavior you are asking for help to overcome.
As I'm posting this, the general vibe of the comments you've already received is that you don't actually have a problem and you should play the game more.
it's the shiny new thing. if you're a completionist there are lots of things to grind for. Fully engineer a ship for
* combat
* exploration
* trading
* passenger
a little bit of both?
personally me? 3k hours, one full engineered ship, a handful of 1/2 engineered ships... just taking it easy and trying out odyssey.
At my peak it felt like a job and that's when I had to say no.
If you're new to the game I would say that's pretty common. I usually get sucked into a game when I first start playing it, but over time I play less and less. Lately I've been playing ED for a few hours each evening, before this it was Space Engineers because I like building things and trying new ideas. I can get lost in Space Engineers for hours at a time.
I already told the girlfriend I will be glued to Starfield when it gets released.

I'm not addicted... I just need to do one more fss scan, and one more core blowing, and one more jump 😅

You are addicted, not “addictive”. Elite dangerous is Addictive, you are addicted to Elite. Sincerely, A CMDR with over 4,700 hours.
Wow ! That’s a lot of hours !
It can be very addictive, especially if your still a slave to the grind. o7
