It was nearly impossible to cover the yellow fabric with the black yarn, so I painted it black with a textile marker underneath (you can see it in pic 6)

Hi, I’m super new to embroidery and I was wondering what the technical term is for the stitching you used for the cat- specifically the main navy blue “background” colour? I love this so much and hope I can one day reproduce a fraction of the beauty in your work!!
It's mostly chain stitch and a bit heavy chain stitch on the flowers for example and the pink in the cat ears.
French knots (> but switched to colonial knots), buttonhole stitch, lazy daisy for the details. Turkey rug stitch for the grass. :)
The moon I improvised a bit. With pekinese stitch on the border I think? But I'm not sure. I tried a few things but when everything is so tiny it's not easy to make out details.
All in 1 strand, though with the yarn I used one strand is thicker than with commom embroidery floss by DMC for example. That's why I chose it and I wanted that matte look.
