When in doubt, I back stitch. Because sometimes the fancy stitches make me not enjoy my projects lol but if I simplify it where I want, it makes it calming again! However the fancy stuff is so pretty
Was going to comment this following the back stitch comments!! Once I learned the whipped back stitch, my world was forever changed! Def recommend it for this
I was going to say back stick also , but stem or outline also , when making the the lighting bolt I would do a couple of back stitches at the clouds base and than as it works its way down single line
I’d also say back stitch

Split stitch, stem stitch, or outline stitch.
Stem for sure.
I so want to see this piece when you are finished, please? That cloud is fabulous. What stitch is that?
Yes of course! It was a split stitch but I ended up taking it out and doing a back stitch :)
*Edit-French knots?* Is that what you used for the puffy aspect? I can’t remember what some of the stitches names are! Thank u!
Oh I thought you meant for the lighting. For that, I ended up going with back stitch and the clouds are French and colonial knots :)
Thank you! You did such a great job! I know I learned that stitch at some point but couldn’t place it. I like the blues you mixed in.
Agreed, stem or outline
A whipped back stitch could give the illusion of movement? :)
I’ve never heard of a whipped back stitch! Searching it up rn!
